Can't un-mute

when making or recieving calls, the soft-mute button won't turn
off; i can hear myself in the built-in earpiece/speaker as an echo,
so the mic isn't really dead.
i have reset it, turned it off completely, worked the headset plug
in and out of the socket dozens of times but still no joy.
any suggestions?

I've never heard of that issue before... sorry to hear about that brotha!

  • I can't check mute or thru in audio midi setup!

    Hi all!
I'm new so thanks for checking out my post. My issue is in regards to a problem with my audio preferences. I can't check "mute" or "thru" on my audio preferences (in audio/midi setup) for the line in and internal mic. I think they are leading to problems in logic with audio being recorded as bleed.
Core Audio will not allow line in to be turned down past -4.00 db. This leading to all kinds of problems. Thanks for any thought!

Many audio audio input devices do not support Mute or Thru. Any recording applications should have ways of selecting the audio inputs to use, other than just reducing the levels of unwanted inputs.

  • HT5858 In the control center I can change the mute or the rotation but not both.  How do I fix this.  In settings I can not uncheck both the mute and rotation lock.

In the control center I can change the mute or the rotation but not both.  In the settings area therefore I can't uncheck the mute and rotation settings at the same time.

Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Can't un-mute tracks

I'm using Logic together with an MC-808.
Every so often tracks become muted and I can't un-mute them.
Has anybody else had this problem with external instruments?

ok. It good to know I'm not the only one with this problem. The work around at the moment for me is to duplicate all the midi tracks so I have a "spare" just in case a track decides to mute itself!!

  • Lost all sounds on Imac can not deselect mute all computer sounds

I can not deselect mute all computer sounds on my Imac with Lion I went into preference and for output the only thing I can select is headphones is there away to get the built in speakers back on this drop down list?

    Hello, long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back

  • Can't uncheck mute mac OS 10.8 book pro

this has happened on the first awaking from sleep after installing 10.8
the f 10 key that mutes and unmutes sound has become stuck in the muted condition hitting it just shows the large sound level icon with the diagonal line through it but greyed out hitting the f12 key removes the large diagonal slash and shows full volume but greyed out and the small circle with diagonal slash is seen at the bottom centre of these large soundlevel control icons
the control in the menu bar is also greyed out and can not be adjusted from its bottom position.
the sound system preference shows out put volume at full but the the mute box is checked and grey and can not be unchecked.
sound was working after the install as I was playing with the improved text to speach voices...
the problem cropped up after awaking from sleep
all other functions seem to be OK
anything else I should try? ( I did a search here and found reports going back to 2006 here but they seem to centre on faulty headphone jacks and I have never used anything but the builtin speakers on this MBP)

  • Can't turn mute off / iTunes won't play

After a blue screen restart into safe mode this morning, I have lost all sound. System Preferences lists it as mute, but won't let me change the setting. The volume keys do nothing and I can't adjust using the icon in the menu bar.
While trying to work out the extent of the problem, I have noticed that iTunes won't play.
The computer blue-screened after I downloaded the latest security update. I thought it was because my startup disc was full and after I restarted, I got rid of some of the excess. Everything seemed fine so I downloaded the iTunes update (at the time I didn't realise that the sound wasn't working).
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Kate Buchanan

all well - though the first restart did nowt, the second gave me large amounts of joy

  • T410 - Can not use mute and volume button.

    Dear all
I have a Think pad T410. The Mute and Volume button can not work when the Windows Vista is fully loaded.
But it works in following case:
    - On Ubuntu
    - When Windows Vista is still loading.
I guess it's conflict with some of Thinkpad Driver or Windows update.
Did you experience it? Can you advice me how to solve it?

I would re-install the Lenovo Hotkeys software and see if that helps.

  • Why can't I mute or solo multiple midi takes separately?

This just seems like such a major bug, I wonder why there are not more complaints? On any other DAW I've used (which is many) you can create multiple takes from one midi instrument, then mute or solo each take and edit as desired. Not so with Logic Pro X? Creating multiple tracks will play all regions simultaneously (totally useless unless drum programming?). Why on earth can't you create a number of midi takes and edit however you wish? Is there a way to mute each track separately?
Here is an ideal workflow that I would like to accomplish with Logic:
Play Keyboard vsti -> record multiple takes via cycle -> edit takes, comp and mute others. Is there no way to do this?

Hi, thanks for posting the link. It's helpful but a pretty convoluted way of working. And, his method creates a new track with a new vsti, not great if you want to limit unnecessary cpu drain, especially for big vsti's.
I am finding some other workarounds which include turning tracks on/off--which can be done easily with a keyboard command: option M. The on/off buttons then appear on the tracks as well.
You can also make a keyboard command for "Mute Notes/Regions/Folders on/off" so you can select specific regions and mute while leaving the other regions and tracks from a vsti on.

  • Can't un mute sound

I just went through re-sizing issues, with restarts and now it's ok but the volume is muted and in System Pref Sound the mute is checked and grayed out so I can't uncheck it. Why and How do I fix this?
    thanks

Check your System Profiler. What does it show under "Available Devices?" Also, what happens if you log into another User account?

  • Can't perform Mute automation in real time

With touch or Latch mode on and pressing alternatively Mute on and off nothing is recorded here. What I miss?

That is how Touch mode works: it changes the parameter only when you touch (and hold) it. As soon as you'll let go, the  parameter will return to the existing automation, or initial state. The 'release time' of touch mode can be set in Logic Pro>Preferences>Automation: Ramp Time parameter
Touch: Plays back automation in the same way as Read mode. You can modify the value of the chosen automation parameter by moving controls in Touch mode. After the fader or knob is released, the parameter follows existing automation on the track.

  • Can't uncheck 'mute' in sound preferences

Suddendly today there's no sound coming from my computer, not in different browsers, or different forums. Went to Sound Preferences and "mute" is checked. But it won't let me uncheck.

My MBP unexpectedly developed a similar problem.
I ran Tech Tool Pro and it fixed the problem.
Try running Apple's Disk Utility and repair permissions and see if that corrects the problem.

  • IPad 2 sound mostly off. No effect pushing volume change bar, volume dots don't even appear. Can't un mute it. Sounds work in settings area. Help!

Sound won't play. No dots when volume bar pushed. Sound works in settings area, not anywhere else. Acting like it is permanently muted. Help!

I had the same problem- go to Utilities, General, Use Side Switch To, and change it from Mute to Lock Rotation- this solved the problem for me.
    Good luck!
