Can't upgrade because of Node.js conflicts?

Hey all,
I just started messing around with Node... so I'm not really sure what to do here. Tried to run a
pacman -Syu
today and got this:

What should I do? Delete all those files?

Better install npm manually, so it's complete independent of pacman:
download binarys: http://nodejs.org/download/
extract  e.g.:
~/bin #a bin in your personal home for example
create a link
ln -s node-v0.10.26-linux-x64 node
add dir bin to PATH
export PATH=$HOME/bin/node/bin:$PATH
set npm config parameter with: npm config set <key> <value>:
npm config set root /home/wwn/bin/node/lib/node_modules
npm config set binroot /home/wwn/bin/node/bin
npm config set manroot /home/wwn/bin/node/share/man
check
cat ~/.npmrc
look at your conf
npm config ls
~./npmrc example
root =    /home/wwn/bin/node/lib/node_modules
binroot = /home/wwn/bin/node/bin
manroot = /home/wwn/bin/node/share/man
check installation
node --version && npm -version && which npm # should lead to  /home/<user>/bin/

  • CAN'T UPGRADE BECAUSE CAN'T AFFORD FC STUDIO, SO OTHER PROBS ARISE!

This is a problem which is building one step at a time, and it begins with OSX upgrades. I had to stop at 10.4.8 because - as a long-time user (professionally) of Final Cut Pro, upgrading beyond that renders many aspects of my version (4.5 HD) useless along with DVD Studio Pro, Compressor, etc. (those bundled with it). I found out the hard way, and had to downgrade back to 10.4.8.
However, now items such as my Address Book, iCal and Mail - which I use because of the compatability issues we all used to love about Macs, are not sync-able on .mac. The systems says I must have the 'latest version' - which is part of the new operating system (which I can not upgrade to!)
Therefore my .mac account, my ability to access the info I need when at a remote location, all are stuck in the water because Mac will not 'support' Final Cut Pro 4.5HD... I appreciate how good Final Cut Studio is: I have purchased it for school's I work with and used it myself at work locations, but personally, the $699.00 upgrade to FC Studio is not feasible for me at this time. The $199.00 upgrade was offered only until March of this year - and it was not brought to my attention until it was too late and unaffordable.
Does anybody have any ideas? I am looking for solutions.. and appreciate your input.

Thanks for the input; you are all correct - especially Gig - in that FCS is a significant upward change. I have used it, purchased it for some schools and kick myself every day i didn't get the 199 update info in time. i know they offered it for a while, but I was changing residences and missed out. I begged Apple to make an exception, but they refused. It's business. Truthfully, i need to just suck it up and get the FCS and yes - more gigs, Gig!
For now, live with my woes...most of work currently is done through a day job in the business, so my side businesses are not the priority any way. As you said G, I am sure I could make it back fairly quickly...
    So quit whining, BH Weber!
    Thanks as always guys...

Try 'pacman -Syu sysvinit'. Not sure why pacman doesn't list sysvinit as a package that needs to be updated. sysvinit 2.88-3 is in the repos since September and you're still using the previous version.

  • I have iphoto 7. I need to order additional copies of a wedding album. When I try, it tells me that I can no longer order on iphoto 7 and I need to upgrade. When I try to upgrade, it tells me tat I can't upgrade because I have OSX 10.6.8  What can I do

I have iphoto7. I need to order additional copies of a wedding album I creared LESS THAT A YEAR AGO!!!. Apperently I can no longer order on iphoto 7 and cannot download the upgrade on my OSX 10.6.8 system What can I do?

Your profile signature is confusing. There it says "iPhoto '08, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8)".  But your question mentions older systems:  " iphoto 7 and cannot download the upgrade on my OSX 10.6.8 system"
Do you have two different Macs? If you have a second mac with OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), you could upgrade that to MAvericks and buy the most recent iPhoto '11, version 9.5.1 from the App Store. That would be the least expensive solution to upgrade your iPhoto.
If you only have iPhoto 7 on OSX 10.6.8, you can can buy the boxed iLife '11 installer package from Amazon. This will install an early version of iPhoto '11, that runs well with your current system and will let you print your book.  You will need to run the iPhoto library upgrader to convert your old library, see:  iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
Also, you  should be aware, that upgrading your library may change the book layout a bit, because the themes have changed between the versions, so you need to keep a backup copy of the library and iPhoto 7, to be able to compare the upgraded version to the original.

  • I can't upgrade because the second line took it?!

I have a family share plan with two lines. BOTH lines were eligible for upgrade around the same month. So one of us decided to get a new IPhone4 on THEIR phone number, but for some reason ....(agent even thought it was weird it did this) it put it on MY line.... no big deal to me when agent expressed it.. because frankly at the time I didn't know what it meant.
Now after a few months I am ready to upgrade. I look around and find deals for FREE phones at Target and Wirefly. BOTH denied me because Verizon says I'm not eligible. WHAT? I was always eligible!!
What is the deal???? I keep getting the answer that the Iphone used my number! How is that possible!!! They have their own dang phone number!
Why can't they just switch it in the system

It sounds like you accidentally did a "buddy upgrade."  Basically, you signed a contract and recieved the phone for your line, and then transferred the new device to the other line on your account.  Your line is now under a 2 year contract (which you cannot undo unless you are within the 14 day Worry Free Gaurentee window), and so it is not eligible to upgrade until 20 months have passed.
The other line on your account should still be eligible to upgrade, and you can do another "buddy upgrade" to get a new phone for your line.  Be cautious about using a 3rd party retailer like Wirefly for this though, because they often make you sign a 2nd contract that may charge you an ETF when you move the new phone to your line.

  • Can't update iPhoto and other apps after upgrading to Yosmite.  Bought the computer at a Mac Store complete with iPhoto, iMovie, Numbers, Pages etc so the App store sayes we can't upgrade because these were not purchased through the App store.

Until this gets resolved we can't access iPhoto or my iPhoto library.  Unfortunately didn't back up my photos before we "upgraded" to Yosmite.  Any ideas?

You need to update the information regarding what Mac this is and what version of OS X you're running.
You show a PB G4, which won't run the Mac App Store.

  • I NEED Firefox 3.6.25 for my MacBook Pro. The ftp site is gone. How can I get it? I can't upgrade because of my processor.

The night that Firefox apparently stopped distributing Firefox for Mac 3.6.25, I had a computer crash that corrupted my copy of 3.6.25. I tried to go to the FTP site to get another copy to reload (using Safari) and the FTP site is apparently gone and Firefox will not let me download that version of Firefox. I'm limping along on Safari and can't update even my corrupted version of 3.6.25 because my processor won't support further updates. I NEED 3.6.25! Is there anyplace that I can get it? What can I do? My corrupted version of Firefox 3.6.25 doesn't work correctly. It opens improperly and doesn't work when it does open.

    Hi,
You can try the latest in the [https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html 3.6 series] which is still supported.

  • Can't upgrade because of "prior debt" hold from 4 YEARS AGO.

I am at my last straw concerning Verizon Financial Services.
I am due for an upgrade on my line from my family plan. I went to five different Verizon stores and tried to get my phone upgraded with no success because of a "prior debt" hold on my account.
First, I talked to customer care, then I was forwarded to "Financial Services". Alice from that department told me that the RELEASE from that account was not updated and this would all be RESOLVED. She promised to call me at 5PM, but there was no call. I visited several Verizon stores and after visiting the last one; I was told to wait 24 HOURS for their "system" to get "updated", whatever that means.
This prior debt was for $81.72 but FINANCIAL SERVICES could not even clearly explain what this charge was for. This charge was from November 2009.
Why would they bring this up now? My mother on my family plan had no problem upgrading earlier this year. If we really had unresolved debt from 2009; does it not make sense to inform us sooner and get THEIR (FINANCIAL SERVICES) money?
Why wait now? Is it because I am upgrading to an Iphone 5S? Does Verizon really have to stoop this low and prevent people from buying phones?
Why would it take so long to update a release on a bill?
If this is not resolved within 24 hours. I WILL terminate my contract contact my lawyer.

No I did not go in for the Edge upgrade. I went in for a regular discounted upgrade on one of my lines and now I have been on hold for the past 2 hours trying to get these ****** to let me upgrade.
I do not even have a phone with me because it was stolen.

  • Can't upgrade because I am running MAC OSX 10.4.11 on a MacMini. Am I still secure?

I am getting alerts that my version of Firefox will not be supported much longer but I can't find an upgrade that works on my Mac Mini running MAC OSX 10.4.11. Shall I use a different browser?

As of Firefox 4.0 and newer one needs both OSX 10.5+ and '''Intel''' hardware. You have PPC. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/9.0/system-requirements/
Two options since you have PPC: either continue to use Firefox 3.6 (3.6.25 is current, released yesterday) which you have. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Or you can use a third-party build from http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ in order to have Firefox 9.0 though do note http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported

  • While upgrading from OS 10.4.1.1 to Leopard, I get a message that I can't upgrade because my computer is not running OS 10.4 which I clearly am.  What's the problem?

I purchased a Mac OS X Leopard on Amazon to upgrade my 2006 Apple iMac.  After inserting the CPU Drop-in DVD, and clicking the Leopard OS 10.5 installation icon, I get a message that the upgrade cannot happen because the upgrade installer cannot find OS 10.4 or later on my computer.  My system profiler indicates that my iMac is running OS 10.4.1.1.  What is the problem?

I came upon the solution in another discussion thread.  The solution is to simply wait 8 to 10 minutes on the language selection dialog box allow the install program time to find my OS 10.4.1.1..  I then clicked on "Continue" and the install proceeded without any problems.  I know am running Leopard OS 10.5.8., So far with no cliches..."knock on wood".  Thanks to all who responded to my original question.

I am using the LTS kernel. I had this same issue on my laptop yesterday. On there, I fixed it by moving to the LTS kernel (at least until a new non-lts kernel comes available).
EDIT: Nevermind. I fixed it by reinstalling nvidia-libgl and lib32-nvidia-libgl. Display Manager now works!

  • SSM-20 Can not upgrade software on the sensor

    Hi,
I am trying to upgrade a sensor on IPS-SSM-20 and have "errInUse-An Upgrade is already in progroess" error.
Can I do anything to fix that or my only way out is to reboot a module ?
P.S. Two modules are  instaled on ASA-5520 - HA pair with multiple context.
    Thanks,
    Vlad

    Hello,
I don't have option "debug module". Only debug option is to " debug module-boot"
This is SSM-20 on ASA 5520.
I forgot to mention that whole problem started when I acidentaly tried to upgrade sensor on a diferent module with a sign. version that already exist on the sensor. Erros was like"can not upgrade because version already exist on the sensor"
After that I was not able to "kill" that process.
    Thanks,
    Vladimir

  • [SOLVED] can't update system because nouveau and nvidia conflicting?

    Hi folks-
I am trying to update and am getting an error message that I'm not sure how to resolve.
    [sarai@arch ~]$ sudo pacman -Syu
    [sudo] password for sarai:

warning: removing 'libgl' from target list because it conflicts with 'nvidia-utils'
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: nouveau-dri: requires libgl=9.0
A little bit aggravating, it kindly removes libgl from the list because of a conflict then fails out because it's required.
I used nouveau as my graphics driver for a year or two when I first set up this system, but it started giving me weird slowdowns and errors so I tried switching to the proprietary drivers (I know, shame shame) which fixed it. I'm not surprised that they're not compatible, but when I tried to figure out how to remove nouveau I see that it is built into the kernel? I followed the directions as explicitly as possible when installing nvidia so I'm not sure where I went wrong.
Right now, I can't upgrade and I would really like to avoid the pitfall of just blacklisting nouveau-dri. I'd rather invest the work into actually fixing the problem.
    I would appreciate any advice.

IIRC since version 1.0.2-2 xf86-video-nouveau depends on nouveau-dri which in turn depends on libgl which conflicts with nvidia because Nvidia provides their own libgl implementation.
    This might help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Nv … au_drivers
Thank you, that was quite helpful. The script to switch from nouveau to nvidia includes the line to remove the packages libgl, nouveau-dri, and xf86-video-nouveau. I tried running just that line and it failed out because nouveau-dri and libgl aren't actually installed. How irritating! However, I was able to remove xf86-video-nouveau, and after that pacman has gotten past the dependency check and is installing packages so I think this is fixed.
Big kudos for all the help, marking this solved.

Install more RAM in the computer; the Mac needs to have at least 2GB of RAM and should have 4GB or more first.
