Can the items in this grfx be deleted without harming or hobbling FCP?

SnapZ Pro recently released a revision. It wrecked havoc with my system (and no longer functions). In talking with support, I was told the problem is a group of third party QuickTime components. The person on the phone suggested I delete everything in the following folders: /Library/QuickTime/ and user/Library/QuickTime. Both folders are hidden by default. The attached screengrab shows the contents of the only one of the two folders I could find.
I shared this grab with the support person. He commented that they are all very old and incompatible and won't be missed. I'm inclined to agree with him as they are all more than 14 months old and nothing new seems to have been added to the folder. Still, I'm in the middle of a half dozen projects and cannot afford to have my FCP hobbled. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

An item that is moved to the trash is temporarily stored until you Empty the Trash. Data that is moved to trash is unusable by the system. Same as it would be in real life where you put items in your trash bin but you could take it back out if you haven't already thrown the trash away

Did you download that game, or could somebody else have downloaded it or synced it to your iPad ? And the id that shows in Settings > iTunes & App Store is your id - if not then tap on it to log out of it and then log back in

With Mac OS X can the system.log files be safely deleted?

I just did a search of my HD using OmniDiskSweeper, and there's a file called system.log that's 8GB The path is /private/var/log/system.log Can this file be deleted without any bad effects? Wouldn't the system just create a new one when needed? I opened the file in Console, looked at some of it, and as far as I can tell I would think it's okay to delete, but I'd like to be sure before I do it. Thanks!

I also just found a new file was created-- /private/var/tmp/tmp.1.UhmvZp after I looked in the console and had to force quit. That one is 3.3GB. Any of these files can be deleted? I know not to delete the sleepimage file, which just created another 1GB swapfile and is up to 4GB.
In September I brought my Macbook to an Apple genius because I was loosing so much HD space without downloading or installing anything. He told me to reinstall the OS and it did help recover some space. Now I know where that HD space is going!

I want to be able to lay on my back (I am disabled) and type documents into the iPod Touch using a virtual keyboard. Can the appliance do this?
I would also like to use a microphone to record audio onto the hard disk. can it do this? I know the regular iPod can.
Does it have "dictation" software for it, so I can speak and have it translated to something like ext?

The iPod touch is basically just an internet enabled music/video player - not really a full-blown handheld computer (although it does share some features).
You can type into it using the on-screen touch keyboard, but it wouldn't really be suitable for long documents. Also there's no word processor, just a simple Notes application and Email.
The iPod touch does not have a microphone input. So unless someone develops an external plugin microphone no recording features are available.
There is no dictation software for it. Partly because there's no microphone input, and partly because there are no extra applications (apart from what comes with it) available for it yet. This will change once third-party developers get the SDK this month, although I don't know if dictation/translation software is even possible, let alone if someone will produce it.

Yes, it can be deleted, but if you are concerned that deleting the app will prevent your phone from being trackable, don't be.
The "Find my iPhone" app does not need to be installed for the Find my iPhone service to work. It is only for locating another iOS device from yours.
For your phone to be trackable, the MobileMe/iCloud account needs to be setup on it, Find my iPhone needs to be enabled, Location Services needs to be turned on, and the phone needs an internet connection.

Can the Item Name be passed to Javascript?

Is there a way to capture the Item Name (or any unique identifier) from the button that was clicked to trigger a javascript? (I'm working in Captivate 5.5, but others are on 6.0, so I can take either answer if different)
To provide context, I have a simulation where the user has to make three different choices from three different drop down boxes (choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert), each choice stored in a variable. The user then has to assign the three selections to one of 20 places. Each of the 20 places has 3 variables each to capture the choices for each dining position.
My problem is that I have to write 20 different Advanced Actions to assign the 3 user choices to the 3 variables for that dining position. While straightforward enough, as I think through expanded options for the simulation, that will be a complete pain to make changes. My desire is to write a Javascript that 'constructs' the variable name needed for the cpEISetValue function, so that the same script can be used for each of the 20 buttons. I know how to the construction part of the variable name, but to do that I would need some kind of unique information about the button that was clicked to construct its unique variable names for the choices.

Yes, this is possible:
Drop a smart shape onto your canvas and set it to work as a button.
Right-click it and Add Text. This will enable the Format section in the properties panel.
Under the Format section, choose a Captivate Variable to be the text of your smartshape button.
When the button is clicked, you can execute some javascript to get the name of the button like so:
alert('Button Name: ' + document.Captivate.cpEIGetValue('m_VarHandle.btnName'));
Where btnName is the Captivate user variable that you're displaying in your smartshape text. That JavaScript should pop up an alert box with the name of the button.
You can also set the name of your button from JavaScript if you needed:
document.Captivate.cpEISetValue('m_VarHandle.btnName', 'Save');
This would make your button read "Save" in your project.

I gifted a specific movie in HD, can the recipient download this movie in SD?

I gifted The Fall in HD to a friend. The recipient of the gift received it and downloaded it without knowing that his computer does not play HD movies. In the past, I've been able to download SD versions of HD things I've purchased - can he download the SD version of this movie? If so, how?

Here's what I've found. Mind you, this mentions for the purposes of syncing to an iOS device, but that part can be ignored:
Make sure you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. You can download the latest version for free here.
Open iTunes on your computer.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
Navigate to your Purchased page. Find it by clicking Movies or TV Shows from the top navigation bar in the iTunes Store, and then click Purchased from "QUICK LINKS" in the iTunes Store.
Choose the appropriate video type: Movies or TV Shows.
In the lower-right corner of the screen, deselect the box next to "Download HD When Available."
Search for the desired video and click the download button.
This should download the standard definition version to your computer so you can sync to your device.

Can the pop words when typing be deleted? Do not like it!

I don't like when I'm typing and words pop up, it takes up space. very distracting, I would like the option to be able to delete it. One reason I did not like android!

I can no longer open PDFs on my computer. The first time this happened I deleted Adobe and tried to download it again. I consistently get "down load failed to initialize" when I attempt to do this.

I've updated Firefox.

You have some sort of issue with the external drive, I would use a powered USB hub first if it's not self powered.
Next I would be looking at purchasing software to direct recover your files from the 1's and 0's of the bits themselves on the external drive as it appears your directory or something is hosed.
Software that comes to mind is DataRescue $99 which you can download and test first before buying, then send the recovered files to another blank external drive.
Once you've got your files recovered, then your all set to mess around and experiment.
Try to access the files with the program version that originally created them, I'm not all that up to speed on iMovie, but I do know there are issues with using older Apple software versions with newer version altered files.

How can the Aperture Library grow when I delete images (incl Masters)?

When I delete pictures from an 'album or project' the Aperture Library increases in size - even when I specify to delete the Master image and all versions. This happens even after the trash is emptied.
Can anyone shed some light on this - thank you!

Ian - I was working on some albums and when I started the process, just out of curiosity I looked at the size of the "Aperture Library". Did not really jot down the number of the byte count. After deleting a buch of rejected images (I did have the second monitor window open showing the Aperture Lib size) and noticed that the library appeared to have increased. Not having been sure of my memory and number recollection, I deleted a whole album and the size was up by several 100 KB.
Just to give you an example - after having moved the 23.5GB Ap Lib to a safe place, I imported 4 different projects. 3 of the projects contained the images which were owned by me the last project contained the images which were owned by 'root'. The size of the Library went from about 170KB to 82MB. I deleted 4 images in one of 'my' projects and the Lib size went from 82 MB to 103.4MB. Deleted and additional 6 images in the same project and it was now down to 100MB. I then deleted an additional 15 images (originals owned by root) and the size went down to 86.5MB. Quit Aprture, the Lib size showed 84.1MB, proceded to empty the trash (which contained the 25 images) and the size now was 82.9MB. This is not a big deal, 900KB, but why and why the wild changes?
When I went back to read the Aperture manual, on page 55, it states that removing "Albums" does not delete the master image nor its other versions. When I delete a "project" the size of the Library does get reduced.
I guess, I have to be careful "when" I examine the Library size - and maybe I have answered my own question - Thank you all for your input -

Can the old_value check on updates and deletes be disabled in streams ?

I am in the beginning phases of streams replication. Replicating one table from a source db to a target db.
This table exist in both source and target and has a PK on ID.
SQL> desc api.junk;
Name Null? Type
ID NOT NULL NUMBER
PASSWORD VARCHAR2(20)
The password on the target database may be different due to security reasons. This will be done via a before insert trigger.
PROBLEM..
When i run
SQL> delete from api.junk where id=1;
It will run fine in the source but it seems to check both the ID and the PASSWORD column in target, then fails. Is there a way to prevent it from checking the old values when execute updates and deletes ?

It's possible that whatever program you were typing it in has an auto-save feature. Since you don't say what version of the OS and what program you are using, we can't tell you whether that is the case or where you might find such an auto-saved document. It's also possible that the auto-saved document was deleted when you chose to not save it.

Can the new pages files be opened elsewhere without converting them in any way?

My pages files were recovered from my laptop after it crashed with help from apple support. Now I can't access them on any of the other systems I have access to. It there anyway to covert them to a different format without having a special program?

Thanks. We want visitors to browse through our historical photos in any of the ways iPhoto will allow them, including slide shows, but also searching for photos by key word and viewing them along with the comments we have entered on that photo.
I was beginning to think iPhoto had no capability to limit users to certain functions.
I wonder if the use of Apple's sharing files function would help. I have read that it is possible to share files with others, and to limit their use to viewing only, but I don't know how to do this.
