Can we schedule backup of cisco san switch 9148 through windows backup utility.

can we schedule backup of cisco san switch 9148 through windows backup utility.

sure, you can write a batch/perl/powershell/whatever script that will connect to your switch and then backup the configuration. You need to decided where you are going to back it up to, possible options include TFTP, SCP, FTP, SFTP.  For example i am backing to a TFTP server, my perl script connect to the switch and runs this command:
copy startup-config tftp://tfpserver-ip/mds9513.$(TIMESTAMP).config
TIMESTAMP is actually a built-in variable that will be replaced with the date/time configured on the switch.

  • WWN does not show up on Cisco SAN Switch

We use Cisco SAN Switches MDS 9134 and MDS9222i with NX-IOS 4.2.(3). Our HP c7000 blade enclosure is connect through a Fibre Channel Virtual Connect Card to the SAN switches. For so far is everything working Oke. Now is the problem when I connect the 8th and 9th Blade Server (BL860c i2 Integrity Server) to the c7000 enclosure non of the wwn's show up on the Cisco Switch. Neither on the MDS9134 as the MDS9222i.Firmware on the HP Blade is up to date. The Onboard Administrator show that the HBA's are logged-in to Virtual Connect.
Does anyone know solution for this issue.
    Best Regards,
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
The output of "show flogi database" will show you all the wwn's of devices connected directly to a particular
    switch.
Is NPV involved in your topology?

  • Windows Server 2012 Windows Backup failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We aren’t really seeing anything that gives any hint on what the issue is.
    Any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

We are trying to back up folders/files from 2 local drives (C: & D:), both of which have only 10% space used, and 100 GB free.
We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.
    Thank you for the link.

  • I recently had to use a Western Digital Smartware backup (I used their program, not the Windows backup program).

One of my hard drives (two physical drives in a RAID array that made them look like one big drive) failed, and had to be replaced. The computer has been repaired and I have restored from backup. I have looked in the user/desktop directories and the only bookmark file I can find is dated 8/2012 (This is 5/2013). Is there another place, Firefox bookmarks are stored, where I can look for a more updated file to import? Thank you!

It seems that my bookmarks cannot be recovered from the last backup I made. I was able to restore from an older backup. HOWEVER,
    1. None of the 'unsorted' bookmarks appear? Shouldn't they be part of the backup of bookmarks? It is POSSIBLE, but not PROBABLE that I had no "unsorted" bookmarks as of the backup date.
    2. The (2nd to last) backup of my hard drive was done in November 2012, but the bookmarks are dated AUGUST 2012. That was from the desktop. Why didn't my backup file contain bookmarks after August?
    a. - Doesn't Firefox keep the latest bookmarks file ? Where, then?
    b. - Do I have to actually tell Firefox to make a backup of the bookmarks to have one available?
    - Still missing over 100 bookmarks!
    Thanks!

  • Transferring windows backup to new macbook

    Hi all,
Well, I bought my first ever mac today - finally come over from the dark side aka a windows laptop! My old laptop died on Monday and I decided enough was enough. I ran a regualr windows backup on my external hardrive so after starting up my mac wanted to transfer my docs, music, photos etc etc.
Turned on my harddrive and viewed the files available only to find there are about 200 zip folders and none of the files are in any order - its not clear which are music/photos etc etc. There are also lots of program files but I'm guessing i dont want to import those onto my MAC.
Please can someone help me understand how to import/transfer my windows backup to my mac and bring across all my photos and music (data) etc, without having to manually drag across 30000 files or so. None of the zip folders relate to the folders I had on my laptop so its basically a big mess - HELP!

Hmm, a brief Google search hasn't brought any joy. The Automator utility in OS X might be able to help with unzipping the data and placing it in a folder for you to work with, and might be able to do more. I don't know a whole lot about Automator, so I'm going to ask the hosts to move this post to the Automator forum and see if anyone there can help.

  • Windows Backup creates "locked" directory on SMB share

I'm trying to back up my Windows 7 laptop to my Mac Mini over SMB.
Normal non-backup file operations work okay, from the desktop: I can create folders, drag files, delete files, etc.
But Windows Backup fails, because it creates a directory on the SMB share that--despite ACLs--OS X won't let anyone create files within, or change the security settings. The only option is to rm -rf the directory.
The ACLs look like this (the directory Windows Backup creates is called 'MEGALITH'. I tried creating a parent directory (called 'Megalith') with inherited ACLs, but to no avail:
    sarsen:Megalith root# ls -le .
    total 0
    drwx------+ 2 windowsbackupuser  staff  68 Jan  8 12:49 MEGALITH
    0: user:root inherited allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directory_i nherit
    1: group:admin inherited allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,chown,file_inherit,directory_i nherit
    2: user:_spotlight inherited allow list,search,file_inherit,directory_inherit
Even with these ACLs, I cannot chown the MEGALITH directory. Nor can I edit its ACLs in the Server window.
    My SMB config is:
    sarsen$ defaults read /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.serve r
        AclsEnabled = 1;
        AllowGuestAccess = 0;

For interoperability with Windows clients, this is absolutely 100% bad behavior:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326549
Note Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories, and other programs. For example, you can delete, rename, and change a folder with the Read-only attribute by using Windows Explorer.
The Read-only and System attributes is only used by Windows Explorer to determine whether the folder is a special folder, such as a system folder that has its view customized by Windows (for example, My Documents, Favorites, Fonts, Downloaded Program Files), or a folder that you customized by using the Customize tab of the folder's Properties dialog box. As a result, Windows Explorer does not allow you to view or change the Read-only or System attributes of folders. When a folder has the Read-Only attribute set it causes Explorer to request the Desktop.ini of that folder to see if any special folder settings need to be set. It has been seen where if a network share that has a large amount of folders set to Read-only, it can cause Explorer to take longer then what is expected to render the contents of that share while it waits on the retrieval of the Desktop.ini files. The slower the network connectivity to the share the longer this process can take to the point where Explorer may timeout waiting for the data and render nothing or appear to hang.
Note In some previous versions of Windows, you can change the Read-only attribute for folders by using the Properties dialog box for the folder, but no versions of Windows permit you to change the System attribute by using Windows Explorer.

  • "Windows Backup cannot read the backup destination" when trying to backup to Backup Once to Samba share on NAS

    Environment:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials running in VirtualBox in a Windows 7 host. Networking is configured and works fine.
    Background:
My only backup needs are to copy the contents of two folders to a NAS folder every day at 2 AM.
I configured a backup schedule in Windows Server Backup (wbadmin) to a network location which is hosted as a Samba share on a Synology NAS.
For authentication, I created a backup user which has the same username and password as a user on the Samba share, with permission to read and write the backup folder. I added this user to the Backup Operators group.
    Problem:
When I try to run the Backup Once operation to test my backup, I get the following error message:
"Windows Backup cannot read the backup destination."
    What I've tried:
I verified that the location is directly accessible in Windows by copying and pasting the address from the Windows Server Backup destination into explorer. Providing the backup user credentials opened the location and creating/reading files worked fine.
Adding the backup user to the Administrators group did not have an effect.
    Update 2014-02-18
I checked the backup destination and was surprised to find that the scheduled backup actually completes successfully.
However, Backup Once always results in the above error message.
So the problem is confined to the "Backup Once" operation.

  • Why a SAN switch can see vHBA WWPNs but not WWNN?

I have setup UCSM but the SAN switches (EMC) could only see all the WWPN on each server's vHBA, not the WWNN. They are all UCS B200M2 model. I saw the WWNNs are already assign to all service profile as shown in the storage tab.
Has anyone encountered this before? I am digging my head for more than 2 hours but no clue.
Rebooted the blades, disassociate/reassociate blades, re-ack blades, unbind/rebind vHBA templates on the server's vHBA had been done but no luck
    Appreciate for any help here.
    kind regards,

Simon is correct. In UCSM is where you would only see the WWNN under the storage tab. You are only zoning the WWPN. If I may ask, what reason would you need to see the WWNN if the paths to the HBA is being seen?
    Just curious?

  • How can I mirror all ports on CISCO 3750 switches to one Gigabyte port?

    Hi,
I have a requirement to mirror all the ports on my 7 CISCO 3750 switches, which are in 3 separate stacks, to one single Gigabyte Ethernet port.
Does anyone know how I can do that?
    Thanks in advance.

Vlad, thanks a heap for your response.
I want to apply to my sitation. Please let me know if I get them right in the following:
    Catalyst A
    vlan 901
    remote-span
monitor session 1 source interface fastethernet 1-48 (I want to monitor all ports on the CISCO 3725)
monitor session 1 destination remote vlan 901
    Catalyst B
    vlan 901
remote-span (If I don't need to monitor this switch, do I still need to put anything into this switch at all?)
    Catalyst C
    vlan 901
    remote-span
monitor session 1 source interface fastethernet 1-48 (I want to monitor all ports on this switch as well)
monitor session 1 source remote vlan 901
monitor session 1 destination interface gigabitethernet 3 (There are 4 Gigabit Ethernet Uplink in CISCO 3750, I want all the traffic to go to port 3, is this the right way to do?)
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, easiest way is Enterprise Manager. Otherwise you have to define your own DBMS_SCHEDULER tasks.

Unfortunately you can only activate iCloud or iCloud features from the device itself.

  • Can cisco 3560 switch act as wireless controlrer

Not 3560, but 3650 can do that

If you have 3650 model & having some issue, then refer below post that may help you. Even though it refer 3850 configuration should be very similar on 3650
