Can your Mail Preferences change without your knowledge?

Recently I noticed that my sent messages were gone, all but about 4 weeks or so.  I checked account preferences on my MacBook Pro (fully updated to Mavericks) and it had "Delete Sent Messages From Server" set to "Never".  My other iMac also set to the same setting.  2 iOS devices syncing to the account.
It continued to happen.  I called Apple.  They remotely rebuilt my email.  Still did not repopulate Sent folder but did repopulat Inbox.
I called a week later (today) and went back to look at MacBook Pro mail preference settings on the accont and it had been changed from "Never" to "After One Month" (??!!??)
I didn't make this change, nor anyone in my house.  Could this have changed in some way without my knowledge? I can't get my emails back (thanks Apple!!) but I don't want it to randomly happen again.  They insist I am crazy and the only way it would have changed is if I, after a decade with the same preferences, went in specifically to change it.
Is this possible?  Or am I truly losing my mind???
anyone?
Thanks Caroline

    Ken2024,
I can understand your concern. I want to make sure that everything is okay with the account. To get the unlimited removed from the account normally a person would have to request a plan change, upgrade a device on the account, or if you had to activate a basic phone on the line for a period of time. I can always review the account for you in full detail if you would like. I have sent you a Direct Message. Please respond back to that direct message and we can get account specifics. I hope to hear from you soon.

I have a keynote presentation that includes a significant amount of video.  When I edit the keynote slides (not the video slides) how can I save the changes without re-saving the videos (because that takes a VERY long time)?  I edit the presentation depending on the audience to which I am presenting.

If you add a new  slide with just a text box (therefore a very small amount of data),  to an existing presentation then save,  Keynote will only save the new content to the file,  it wont save  pre-existing content as its already included in the file.
The time  taken to "save" will be very much shorter than a "save as" when all of the existing content is saved again.

As Bob says, any iMap service can do this. GMail can, iCLoud mail can too.
Both of these can be used with Mail on any device.

  • System Preferences Changing Without User Input

I have one user who has had random system preferences change without her input.
She is a network user connecting to a Lion 10.7.5 Server via OD.
Her desktop is Lion - 10.7.4
Example:  Today her setting for Security and Privacy to require a password on screen saver wake-up was changed/no longer checked.
Her setting to be able to use a right click on her mouse changed 3x last week without input.
    Any ideas?

If you are asking if the user is defined more than once, the answer is no.  Just one entry.

  • "To:" mail field changed without my action

    Hello All,
I'm a little worried about this. I just noticed that for many of the emails that are in my inbox in Apple mail, the "To:" field on received messages has been changed to "Holidays in Viet Nam." with my email address <between the carrots>.  There's no functionality loss, but, to be best of my knowledge, I definitely did not change that setting.  So the question is, who/what did.  Can anyone help me track this this down?  I've posted a screenshot.  What controls that "to:" field and how can I deal with it?  Just to be clear, this is one example: the problem seemingly has been applied retroactively (but not uniformly) for months of emails.  Have I been hacked?  What gives?

    Hello Justin,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If the full name for your email address account is not appearing correctly, then I'd like you to please check your Mail settings, to ensure your full name is configured correctly.

  • My website has changed without my knowledge

I'm new to support communities and submitted a question without the proper information, so here goes again.  My website is joanhauck.com.  All of a sudden, it looks like a blog with extraneous material inserted and a download button, none of which I had ever put on the blog and had never seen before. Can anyone tell me what has happened?
Also, I would have replied to Old Toad, who commented on my original question, but I can't figure out how to do it, without starting an original discussion. Can you also explain this process?  Thanks

  • Can my contract be changed without my permission?

I let my property out to a tenant about 5 months ago, at the time I contacted BT to cancel my contract. Because I had recently renewed it, they suggested it would make more sense to let the contract run and just to adjust my tenants rent to include to phone charges. This is what we did, so the contract is still in my name, and direct debit comes out of my bank account, so I am responsible for all bills. I got an email the other day thanking me for ordering BT Vision! I contacted my tenant, who said BT had called offering a better package, she told them that she didn't have a account number or any account details, as it wasn't in her name. They asked, if they got my permission, would she be interested in a new package, including BT Vision. She said yes, as long as I agreed, but no permission was sought and the deal seems to have been done and the contract changed. Is this legal? Can I cancel? I would be happy to pay any cancellation charges for my original landline/broadband contract and let her take over and arrange a new contract that suits her needs. Please advise.

If you get the run around with the call centre you could try the MODS on here http://bt.custhelp.com/app/contact_email/c/4951
But I'd give the call centre a chance to do something 1st. If you do decide to try the mods, allow 72hrs for a response.

  • How did my security questions get changed without my knowledge?

Last week, I got an email from Apple Support that my security questions had been "updated."  The questions have been changed, by ?, and I can't answer them.  What happened?

OK thanks. They just get lots of these questions every day, probably thousands.
...  I may have to resign myself to having unanswerable security questions.
That won't work as a long term strategy. You should request iTunes Support reset them for you.
    Go here:
    https://expresslane.apple.com/
Navigate the columns as follows: All Products and Services > iTunes > iTunes Store > Account Management > iTunes Store account security
Answer the questions and if required sign in with your Apple ID and password - same one you used to log in on this support forum.
You will find an option to send an email to Apple on that page. Compose a thoughtfully worded email explaining your dilemma, and politely ask to have your security questions reset. There are over 400 million iTunes account holders and Apple receives a great many of these questions every day, so make sure yours is easily understood.
You will receive a confirmation email immediately. Check your email spam / junk folder for it because a humanoid should respond in a business day or two. You may need to provide some more security-related information before your questions can be reset. These back-and-forth emails may result in a week of correspondence before it is fixed.

  • Mail settings changing without user input

I have several Mail accounts set up in the following manner (let's please ignore the fact that have far to many accounts, I have collected them as family members came onto the net and in teh process of setting their ISPs up made accounts for myself):
    Several gmail accounts........ working properly
a .mac account in IMAP....... working properly
POP accounts with ISP(a) using APOP auth. working properly
POP accounts with ISP(b) using password auth.. working properly
POP accounts with ISP(c) using password auth.. working properly until the settings somehow change to APOP auth on their own
Edit: SSL is only enabled on the gmail accounts
Things will be working properly for accounts with ISP(c) and then randomly the advanced settings will change themselves from Password authentication to APOP authentication. At which point the accounts will register offline and, upon setting them to go online, will fail to change status without generating an error.
The only way to return to normal operation is to reset the authentication method to Password at which point any messages still on the server(auto-deleted after 1 week) are re-downloaded resulting in duplicate messages in my inbox.
In case it was some kind of syncing problem of my account settings with .mac I reset the .mac sync and refreshed the backup while everything was working properly.
Outside that my only solution has been to reset to Password authentication and go through the process of deleting a weeks worth of duplicate emails. This is seriously annoying and never happened under OS X Tiger. Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Message was edited by: Tigerkzr

I've done both. I only have one mac and I have completely removed the profile from .mac and loaded a new one. Still, randomly changes from 'password' authentications to 'APOP' authentication.
I have checked the keychain as well, not a single duplicate entry(I routinely delete some of the 'oops saved the wrong password' entires just to keep things clean).

  • Keyboard changes without my knowledge

My keyboard on my Elitebook will randomly change on me, making it impossible to type.  It's almost as if the shift key is stuck, forcing a period to be a ">", etc.  I don't know how it changes, or how to fix the problem--my only solution is to reboot the computer.  Suggestions on how to fix this annoying problem?  It happens about once a day and is driving me crazy!

  • Subscription plan changed without my knowledge

I purchased an international calling plan to talk with my family and paid for a year in advance. It was working great for the first 4months and now it charges my skype credit account. I chatted with someone that was on the help line but never heard back. Can anyone tell me how i can resolve this or who can i speak with? Otherwise i guess I have just wasted alot of money.

At first I made the mistake of calling billing. They said I owed what the bill said. Here is some advice. NEVER talk to billing about a disputed bill. Logic has no room in the world. Pay the bill is all they understand. Here is some more advice. Try to find someone in the company who can understand the situation . They will try to fix the problem. So far I am still searching for that person. I am also searching for others who are dealing with this problem. I have probably spent about eight hours on the phone on four separate occasions. The issue is- how did my plan get changed and when will they correct the billing.
If I can offer a reasonable guess: you said that you were on an unlimited calling plan and then you were moved to a 700min price plan; this tells me that you may have had an additional line requested or a consolidation of price plans, if you already have multiple lines. Did this occur at all? My reasoning is this: the 700min price plan is a family share, which normally requires two or more lines of service. If you do not have these extra lines or if you did not request a new line or an assumption of liability, then this would qualify as an error. I hope this helps.

  • Home number changed without my knowledge. Want my old number back.

I have been in touch with Verizon's phone representatives ever since moving into my new apartment. Most recently, my home number changed after I cancelled digital voice service and got Verizon to put me back on my old service. The new number that Verizon has me on is not even recognized as a Verizon number! I talked to Britney the other day and was told that she would call me after getting permission to change our number back to what it was before. This current number sems like the temporary number that Joanie gave me during my FIOS installation. When I called Verizon again this morning to check the status of my inquiry I was told that they can't change my number back because it's unauthorized and that the number is not even Verizon's. My home number has been hijacked and I AM HELPLESS. Everyone says one thing and I am stuck with a number I didn't even ask for. Please help me get my old number back. This is not right.

    Good afternoon Nahid,
Can you send us this information in a private message so we can look further in to this please?
