    acroread 8.1.2 cannot display some Japanese documents although
    the Japanese font package and the CMaps are installed.

    I.e., this document uses the ~MS-Mincho~ font which comes with
    Microsoft Windows. It is not embedded, therefore Acroread has to
    search for it on the system and if it cannot find it it should replace
    it with a fallback Japanese font.
    I have this font installed on the Machine where I am testing but
    acroread fails to use it, complains about missing CJK support
    (which is not true) and displays only dots instead of Japanese
    characters.
    You can get the test document from the above mentioned
    bugreport, it is attached to comment #1:

    Neha,
    Thanks for the response.
    We are running acroread headlessly since it is on a remote server that we access via telnet. Without an XServer session, I can't tell whether acroread is able to read and display the PDF files normally. However, we can view the PDFs with Adobe Reader 8.1.2 on Windows and the acroread -toPostScript command-line that we are using does work properly with other PDFs.
    I will email you a copy of a problematic PDF shortly.

  • Firefox for ICS (Ice Scream Sandwitch) has some issue when trying to display some french characters like é, ç, û

    Hello,
    Some french special characters are not correctly displayed (not aligned with the rest of the text, some space before or after) or not displayed at all :-(
    I think the issue is maybe due to ICS but I want to know: could you confirm ?
    Best Regards.

    Hello,
    On my ASUS TF101G i solve this issue with this topic ([http://www.geckozone.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=101961#p675950 Geckozone] )
    # goto about:config
    # search for: font.default
    # change font.default.x-unicode and x-western to SERIF
    But for me there is another problem with special characters like "@" or "\" because use AltGr key in combination with "à" or "'-" have no effect.

  • Problems displaying some special characters on gray 80gb classic

    Hello,
    I recently got a new gray 80gb iPod classic and I have noticed that certain characters cannot be displayed on it. This occurs with characters such as 'ø' (which is actually the full name of an obscure minimal techno act from the early 1990s) and 'ÿ' (which would occur in the name of the metal band Queensrÿche in the case of my iPod). What is unusual is that these characters DO show up fine when I'm browsing through artists/albums, etc However when I actually play a song whose title or artist names contains such characters, they do not show up on the screen (next to the album art, title/artist/album interface).
    Has anybody else noticed this and, if so, found any way to rememdy it?
    Thanks in advance,
    J

    If your xml is utf-8 then I don't think you need the html
    encoding with the ampersand.
    The following works fine for me in windows:
    var cdata="<b>Main Title Copy Goes Here
    ™</b>"
    var tf:TextField=
    this.createTextField("myTF",1,100,100,300,200);
    tf.html=true;
    tf.htmlText=cdata;
    That was with the default settings and no embedded fonts etc.

  • Linux or Java? :Cannot display non english characters

    hi,
    i am trying to implement a GUI that supports both turkish and english. user can switch between them on the fly.
    public class SampleGUI {
    JButton trTranslate = new JButton(); /* Button, to translate into turkish */
    /* Label text will be translated */
    JLabel label = new JLable("Text to Be Translated!");
    trTranslate.addActionListener (new ActionListener(){
    void ActionPerformed(ActionEvent e){
    String language="tr";
    String country="TR";
    Locale currentLocale;
    ResourceBundle messages;
    currentLocale = new Locale(language, country);
    messages = ResourceBundle.getBundle("TranslateMessages",currentLocale);
    /* get from properties file turkish match of "TextTranslate "*/
    label.setText(messages.getString("TextToTranslate"));
    Finally, my problem is my application does not display non english chracaters like " &#351; &#287; i" in GUI after triggering translation.However, if i do not use ResourceBundle and instead assign directly the turkish match for that label (i.e. label.setText("&#351;&#351;&#351;&#351;&#351;")), GUI successfully displays turkish characters. what may be the problem?
    ps : i am using redhat linux8.0, j2sdk1.4.1. current locale = "tr_TR.UTF-8". in /etc/sysconfig/keyboard , keyTable = "trq". There seems no problem for me as i can input and output
    turkish characters. OS supports this. Also jvm gets the current encoding from OS.It seems as if there is a problem in reading properties file in inappropriate encoding.
    thanx for dedicating ur time and effort,

  • Intel version's Safari cannot display some website's photos (but PPC cannt)

    The Safari (Intel) is not able to display graphics/photos in some websites, (like http://www.fotop.net).
    but if running the safari in rosetta mode, it will able to display so.
    Can any one help to know want happened?

    This MacOSX Hints page shows how to enable the debug menu, which also allows you to change the user agent.
    Since the site works fine on Safari 2.0.3 ( 417.9.2) for me, I'd say that the website simply need to update their User Agent identification info to account for the latest versions. But hey - just tell both partys.
    Hopefully someone else here with an Intel Mac can confirm if the site works for them.

  • My Firefox cannot display non-English characters, even though I have tried every language encoding I have!

    I am a big fan of Japanese songs and websites, so I was very disappointed when I saw that Firefox could not handle any non-English characters. I have tried every encoding I can, but none work and I just see boxes with numbers and letters inside. I have only just got this older laptop for my birthday - my old laptop which ran Windows Vista and had Firefox 4 had no trouble at all. Please help me!

    hello muoshui, please enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''network.http.accept-encoding''' - right-click and reset that entry to the default value.
    if this does not resolve the issue already, please also go through the steps offered at [[Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should]].

  • Cannot display BIG5 characters for web applications deployed to 9iAS

    I have just installed the J2EE and Webcache module of Oracle9iAS Release 2 to
    my Windows NT Server 4.0 and deployed a simple web application to it. However,
    I found that the JSP cannot display chinese (Big5) characters correctly. My JSP
    is something like:
    <%@ page contentType="text/html; charset=BIG5" %>
    <HTML><BODY>
    <% String s = SOME_BIG5_CHARACTERS; %>
    <%= s %>
    </BODY></HTML>
    On the other hand, I tried to re-direct the standard output to a log file and
    do the following in my servlet.
    System.out.println(SOME_BIG5_CHARACTERS);
    Now, the Big5 characters CAN be displayed correctly in the log file. So, I am
    confused with where the problem is.
    Here are my settings to my 9iAS:
    1) Using regedit, I have set the NLS_LANG variable of the corresponding
    ORACLE_HOME to TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5
    2) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Jserv\conf\jserv.properties, I have
    inserted the following line:
    wrapper.env=NLS_LANG=TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5
    3) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\Apache\Apache\conf\httpd.conf, I have added the
    following line:
    PassEnv NLS_LANG
    4) In the file %ORACLE_HOME%\opmn\conf\opmn.xml, I have added the following
    line to the corresponding OC4J instance:
    <environment>
    <prop name="NLS_LANG" value="TRADITIONAL CHINESE_TAIWAN.ZHT16BIG5"/>
    </environment>
    5) For my application server, I set the java option with -Dfile.encoding=Big5
    6) I have replaced the file font.properties with font.properties.zh_TW under
    %ORACLE_HOME%\jdk\jre\lib.
    7) I have set the following in the file orion-web.xml of my web application:
    <orion-web-app
    deployment-version="9.0.2.0.0"
    default-charset="Big5"
    jsp-cache-directory="./persistence"
    temporary-directory="./temp"
    internationalize-resources="false"
    default-mime-type="application/octet-stream"
    servlet-webdir="/servlet/">
    </orion-web-app>
    Anyone have idea on fixing my problem? Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Kae

    I met a similar problem before but not exactly your case. When I compile the JSP by Jdeveloper, it will convert the chinese characters to strange characters. It makes me crazy to handle the chinese characters ...
    Anyway, by my experience, you better isolate the chinese characters from your JSP or Java programs. Instead, put all language dependent text in a properties file and then use native2ascii to covert your properties file into Unicode. Of course, u need to change your page charset to UTF-8.
    U can get more idea from the following site.

  • Unable to insert some special characters.

    Hi,
    I am not able to insert some czech characters into the database. The problem is mainly seems to be due to the characterset. When I query the record, it displays some garbage characters or ? instead of (ž, š). Can anyone please suggest me a solution for this problem?
    The DB characterset is :-
    SQL> select * from NLS_DATABASE_PARAMETERS where parameter like '%CHARACTERSET';
    PARAMETER VALUE
    NLS_CHARACTERSET WE8MSWIN1252
    NLS_NCHAR_CHARACTERSET AL16UTF16
    Many Thanks in Adbance.
    Sam:-)

    All characters are stored as a hexadecimal value either in one-byte (usually ASCII) or two-byte (Unicode). The mappings of which characters (or glyphs) go with which hexadecimal values constitutes a character set. Character sets are NOT equivalent to fonts. I used to build them.
    It sounds like the character set you are using on the server doesn't match with the character set on the client. This is not an uncommon problem. There are plenty of resources on the web for determining which characters map to which hex values. I recommend that you find the character set being used by the client and compare it to the one on the server. It is usually not a good idea to change the character set on the server after install, but Oracle may be able to help you through that. On the client end, you can look at the application and see if there is a way to change the character set to have it match what is on the server. For the Czech characters, I think that they are present in most ASCII symbolsets, but are not consistently mapped to the same hex values. Thus the problem you are seeing.
    Good Luck.

  • ColdFusion Changing Spanish Characters

    For some reason ColdFusion seems to be changing some spanish characters. I've narrowed it down to ColdFusion (or maybe IIS 6 scripting handler) because the text comes out fine on a plain .html file but simply changing it to .cfm causes the characters to come out incorrect. Any help would be great! Thanks
    P.S. The screenshots above look far better when I'm editing this post vs viewing it, not sure what's going on there.

    Very cool!  Glad I could help.  Internationalization, oh man, that's gonna be a fun challenge!
    I think ColdFusion has tons of great Locale-based functions to help ensure that it caters itself to the consumer as best it can.
    The <cfprocessingdirective> is usually used to encapsulate information that you want to modify whitespace or character encoding on, but are you using <cfcontent> without specifying the encoding anywhere?  Usually, CF outputs content encoded as UTF-8 (though it operates internally at UTF-16), but if a <cfcontent> is used at one point and doesn't specify the encoding, then CF is sometimes set to auto-determine the encoding.
    I'm not sure if setting a header from the server-side down is an option, or, if you could utilize a meta tag to do likewise.

  • IPlanet setting to properly display Spanish characters in PDF Document?

    I have a bilingual PDF document (Spanish and English). The document displays correctly on multiple other systems (Unix/Weblogic, NT4, IIS), but when I move it up to my server that is running iPlanet, the Spanish characters do not display properly. Since it displays fine in other environments, I am guessing it is a setting that needs to be changed in iPlanet and not something that needs to be changed with my PDF document. Any suggestions?
    Thanks so much in advance.

    Hi,
    I am not sure if you are referring to the users creating your forms or the users using your forms.
    In terms of typing charactes if the keyboard is set so that you can type spanish characters and the font you are in has those characters then they will be entered into the form, both when creating and filling of the form.
    There is nothing specific that needs to be done to the form to allow this, it just accepts the characters that the OS passes to it from the keyboard.
    (Point of note: if you are specifying a font to be used this would need to contain the characters that you want to use).
    If I have misunderstood the problem then I apologise and if you provide more detail I can investigate further.
    Regards
    Malcolm

  • To display spanish characters on a JSP when the JSP is inside one portal

    Hi All,
    Previously, I had posted my query here that how to display spanish characters on a JSP screen.
    I got a solution that to add
    <%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=UTF-8" language="java" %>
    to the JSP and to save the JSP in 'UTF-8'encoding format.
    This works well in case an individual JSP. But when I am adding the JSP to a web project consisting of many other JSP pages, its not working.
    Do I have to change anything else.
    Please help me if you have any suggestions. I am eagerly waiting for any response.
    Thanks in advance.

    I used to have a similar problem. I have jsp pages in braz. portugese and for these I have    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">When I tried setting the contentType to UTF-8, the way you wrote foreign characters didn't get submitted properly from input fields so I took it away, then everything worked correctly. Don't know why though.
