Cannot download free book

I am trying to download a free book to this authorized and automatic downloads iPad. The book is in my purchased items in iTunes with an iCloud icon but will not download to here. All I have is the book on the shelf and an empty download bar. What should I do?

For some reason, sometimes deleting iBooks and then reinstalling solves problems. Deleting it won't lose any books in your library. To delete the App, hold your finger on it until all your apps start to jiggle. You'll see an X on the upper left side of the app. Touch the X and the app will be deleted. Then go to iTunes and reload the App. Sign in and try to download the free book again.

wanting everything in a single resource is too much to ask. You should split your query into three:
1) how to make platform games
2) how to make games in a windowed environment
3) how to do games in applets
For the first, that is quite difficult to put in a book as a generic topic. What you are looking for is how to make games, with that knowledge you should be able to figure out how to do a platform game. That is quite an involving task. You will have to find out:
1.1) how to efficiently blit graphics
1.2) 2D collision detection
1.3) framerate independent animations and movement
1.4) the "game loop"
as a start.
Making games in a windowed environment is not much different than fullscreen games actually; only the size of the screen is different. Other than that there shouldn't be much difference between the two, other than at the hardware level which you will probably not have to worry about too much in your beginning game development endeavors.
How to do a game in an applet: it is not much different from doing a game in a regular Swing application. I would start there and then later figure out how to do it in an applet. Using a Swing timer and custom painting on a JPanel should get you far enough, I would think.
For later projects you may want to look into the Slick library, which you can find here: http://slick.cokeandcode.com/ . I wouldn't start there though, start simpler with Swing only.

Kindle books are not on iCloud. Do you actually mean iCloud? See the title of your post. Kindle books are downloaded from Amazon's servers using the Kindle App on the iPad/iPhone.

If you mean iBooks, most can only be viewed on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch) in the iBooks app. Only the public domain Project Gutenberg books can be read on a computer, and for that you will need an application that can open ePub files.
If that's not what you meant, please explain further where you are getting these books and how you are attempting to view them.

Cannot download free upgrade 7.2

I cannot download upgrade 7.2. This means that I am unable to purchase ANY itunes music. When I try to buy a song from the itunes store, it sends me to a link that should allow me to download the upgrade. When I try to click on the link called "free upgrade", nothing happens. I have tried from 2 different computers, one with Windows Vista, and one with another version of Windows (XP or newer, I'm not exactly sure which version). Is there something that I can do that will make the link work? Or, is there another way that I can get upgrade 7.2?
(I don't think this is relevant, but just in case: I am trying to buy songs with giftcards, not by credit card.)

This is an update to my 'too many activations'. My Astak EZ Reader Pocket Pro (which I love) went 'dead' yesterday even after an over the weekend battery recharge. So I plugged back into the wall - went to Astak FAQs and read that until the reader can detect a full charge - it may take a time or two of charging to get it up to par. (will just see how long this charge lasts b4 I make any other 'assumptions').
Anyway - this morn I decided to once again try the ADE transfer of books to ereader (with a full charge on the reader). Well unless Adobe did something magical overnight to my account, the 'full charge' seemed to be the answer to my woes. I was able to move my acsm files over to the library and viola - on the reader.
Now these are the steps I took to get here.
Reformatted both my sd card ( I saved the original bin file on my hard drive)
Reformatted the EZ Reader
Downloaded the bin file with the updated firmware to the EZ Reader
Downloaded the 'stand alone installer' for ADE
Charged my ez reader 18 hours
Booted up this a.m. and viola - was able to move the acsm files over to my library and on to the ez reader.
I am no computer wiz tho I have learned a lot over the last 40 years with trial and error and a lot of screaming and pencil breaking, but not sure why today and not yesterday. I more than likely have driven the support person at Astak crazy - not my intention - but he has been wonderful. So contact your ereader support team - and don't forgeto to read the FAQs on your reader, unlike me who did it after the fact. Between the support team and the FAQs and these forums we will SURVIVE the electronic ( love it) world.
Best to all of you out there pullling your hair out and breaking pencils.

Hi, thanks to Jim Lester and Frustrated in AZ for your replies. As mentioned in my original post the Adobe message returned is:- "error activating device with Adobe. E_Adept_Request_Expired(error code 2004). When first using and setting up the tablet Adobe was required to authorise the tablet with a DRM licence.
I assume this message that I now receive relates to this (the expired bit).I have checked and double checked date and time etc. To explain further, ADE is NOT required to download library books as the Overdrive Books app is used for this, the app being supplied by the library. Having contacted Overdrive Books, they also suggest that it is a date time problem and can offer no further suggestions. Now, trying to overcome this problem I tried to reinstall the Arnova update in the normal way and now find that I cannot even do this, I cannot reinstall the update. Copying to the root in the normal way results in the update file being stored in the root but not able to install from this point. So it now seems to me that the original update installation may have caused the problem so, how can this be overcome. Any suggestions at all will be most welcome. Thanks.
