Cannot get XP to print

Hello! I've been working all morning on getting my really weird network going Right now, I'm stuck on an issue between my old Windows XP box and my new iMac G5 (running OSX 10.5.5). Ive got the two computers networking and file sharing okay, but I have an HP Deskjet 5940 hooked up to the system. it used to be hooked directly to the PC, but I swapped it when I got the Mac and hooked it into the iMac. (I still have the drivers - the CD is good for installing on both Mac or PC.) I could never get the XP to print through the Mac, but today I'm trying to get that going.
When I swapped from PC to Mac, I cleaned my PC. I mean to uninstalled and removed everything. Now all that's on there are some browsers and my McAfee Firewall (which is also open to the iMac network just fine).
So I downloaded and installed Bonjour (1.0.5 I think is the version - it's the latest one). It detected the HP printer, and installed it as a generic postscript on the XP. I'm trying to test print right now, but I cannot get it to print. The test file (which is just a notepad document with the word "test" in it) is obviously coming through to the Mac just fine - I can see the test in the printer queue on my Mac - however the print job is "stopped". When I try to resume, I get this:
Opening printer connection
GenericClass: waiting for device
Opening printer connection
GenericClass: waiting for device
Opening printer connection
GenericClass: waiting for device
fatal: Opening printer connection failed: Unable to open the printer connection. Please check your printer connections and check for printer errors.
Now, I have checked the printer connections. I also have VMWare installed and running on my Mac (with XP), and I can print form that just fine. i can also print from my Mac just fine. Obviously the PC box is connecting to the Mac just fine, because the file is sitting in the queue, but for some reason, it won't print from the PC box. Because it's printing form the Mac perfectly, I can safely assume the connections are fine. So what's getting botched here? (and yes, I've also deactivated my firewall to see if maybe that's the issue, but it does the same thing, firewall on or not.)
Anyone have any ideas?

Have you installed the printer drivers for the printer in question on your iMac?  Have you checked if they have 10.4 PowerPC drivers?  Or are the drivers only for Intel?  Have you looked at open source printer drivers if the manufacturer drivers are only for Intel*:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
If none of the above work, you may want to set your iMac G5 as a print sharing machine through the Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sharing panel, and connect the printer directly to the iMac. As long as the iMac is on the same wireless network it should be able to let other machines print to it.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

    You thought wrong.
    iTunes Match will do this.

  • I have an iPad 2.  I cannot get it to print from our Hp photosmart 6525 printer.  Both Hp and apple say these machines can use AirPrint.  Can anyone help

I have an iPad 2 and cannot get it to print from our p photosmart 6525 printer.  Does anyone know how to get the AirPrint to work between these two machines?

    Hi,
As soon as the devices connected to your network the printer should appear as AirPrint.
You may ensure it is connected by clicking the wireless icon on the printer screen to locate its IP, then type the IP into Safari and check if you can access the printer homepage from your iPad.
If the printer conncted but still not being detected as AirPrint, ensure you have the latest firmware for your printer:

If the printer still not being dedected I would rather suspect the network as AirPrint uses Apple Bonjour and therefore require your network to support multicasting to operate..
You may test it by temporary setting direct connection using Wireless Direct, if the printer being detected without using the router please clarify your router brand and model to better understand your router capabiities.
The steps to enable Wireless Direct can be found listed below:

  • I cannot get my kodak printer to print . it prints test paige but does not print documents

i cannot get my kodak printer to print documents . its prints test paige

Kodak has posted an unsupported hack that has been reported to enable printing to a Kodak printer not supported in OS X 10.10 ("Yosemite"). Perhaps it would have the same effect with some other kinds of printers that aren't supported in Yosemite.
I have not tested the hack myself. As far as I know it will not break the compatibility of printing software that is already compatible with Yosemite. It may degrade the security of the printing system. It's up to you to decide whether that risk is worth taking.

  • Cannot get PDFs to print automatically

I work in an elementary school where we have visitors use a website to check in and out of the school. When a visitor checks in, the website creates a pdf file for their name badge.
Instead of training the parents of the 1200 students at my school how to print the badge, I created an Folder Action plug-in in Automator to automatically print the pdf file and then delete the file.
Here are the basic steps of my script:
Find the Finder item pdf file
    Render the pdf as images
    print the images
Find the Finder item pdf file again
    Delete the file
If I try simply Finding the Finder item, and then printing the Finder item, it prints it in portrait mode instead of landscape mode and half the information is cut off. I cannot change the default orientation mode for the printer.
The problem is for some reason, when the program runs automatically (when it detects the file has been downloaded), it sends two copies of the pdf to the printer. This prints two labels for every visitor--what a waste!
I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get it to only print one badge, but I can get it to print 2 badges, 3 badges, or blank badges, but not one.
Can anyone tell me how to get the Render PDF as Images > Print Images to only print 1 copy instead of 2? Thank you.

It sounds like you might have leftover items from previous actions carrying through to your print action. You can use the View Results to see what is going in and out of the actions and ignore as needed - each action has the option to ignore the input from previous actions (if applicable).

  • Cannot get Reader to Print any pdf after reloading Adobe Reader XI.  Any ideas on what I can do?

I remove the original file and reloaded but same result. File loads fine but when I try to print, I get print screen, then hit print and progress screen comes up with progress 0%,then I get a message stating "The document could not be printed."  Removing and reloading again with same results. Printer accepts pdf print from my IPhone and my Surface tablet just fine.  Does anyone have idea as to what I can do to get reader to print?

Try the following settings [Edit | Preferences]
Documents: set 'View documents in PDF/A mode' to Never
Security (Enhanced): disable Protected Mode at Startup

  • Cannot get Flashpaper to print in Powerpoint 2003

I cannot get Flashpaper printouts from any of the MS Office
applications in Office 2003. This worked until about five days ago.
Now, a box comes up, says "working", and hangs. I have tried
repairing the installation, reinstalling both Macromedia and
Microsoft products but nothing. This product works flawlessly for
me in my office at work but not at home! Any suggestions?

Create a new text file and include the text below
    c:
    cd "\program files\macromedia\flashpaper 2"
    fpdriversetup.exe ?ui
then rename the extension to .bat and run it
It has just worked for me

  • HP 460 series, left light blinking and cartridges are in properly. I cannot get it to print anything

The left light keeps blinking which should mean the color cartridge is not in correctly, but it is. Cannot even print a test page

Hi - Try following the steps in this document.  In some cases, the cartridge/printer contacts may have some residue on them that results in the printer not recognizing the cartridge.  The document walks you through cleaning the contacts.
    Hope that helps.

  • I downloaded the latest version of Firefox yesterday and I cannot get anything to print from Frefox today, is this common?

When I ask it to print either from a webpage or using the File Print command I get a message that says An unknown printer error has occurred. I was not getting it before the latest update. When I use Internet Explorer on the same site, it works fine.

  • Printing from iPhone or iPad no problem but cannot get pc to print

Have just bought an instant ink compatible Envy 4502 and have set everything up according to instruction.
iPhone and iPad work fine and can send printing to the printer no problem - why can I not print from my pc - surely you'd think this would be the easiest of the functions to get right??
I can click on send to printer but there remains 0 docs in the queue pending??

    Hi MarcusPos,
I see that the ENVY 4502 will not print from your computer, but it will print fine from an iPhone and iPad. What is the Operating System installed on the computer, Windows or Mac?
Also, what is it you are trying to print, an eMail, a picture, etc?
Have you installed the full feature software and drivers that came with the printer on the computer?
This is not directed to the same issue, but it does troubleshoot the queue for both Operating Systems: Print Jobs are Stuck in the Print Queue.
