Cannot mount volume - device offline

Hi everyone,
I am trying to setup OSB on a Linux box (CentOS).
I could configure the tape library and tape drives as explained in the installation/admin guide but could not get the tape volume mounted. It keeps giving the errors:
can't mount volume in tape1 - device offline
It seems that the volume is offline. How can we get it online?
The error log for the tape drive shows:

  • Gnome "cannot mount volume"

Gnome doesn't want to mount my USB pen drive.  I get the following message:
    Cannot mount volume.
    Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied.
A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this message to the recipient...
I have hal, dbus & fam in my DAEMONS and I have added myself to the optical and storage groups.  I have also logged off and on and tried restarting, but I still get this error.

I am having this same issue. However, I have added myself to both groups and logged out and back in again. I cannot get this to work on either my laptop or my desktop. Any other suggestions?
**Solved on my laptop: You have to restart dbus.
Log out of your DE, and go to a console
    /etc/rc.d/dbus restart
    /etc/rc.d/hal restart
    Should work now

  • Cannot mount volume

    Hi
I have a server connected to a MDC.
The MDC is running 10.4.8 server, XSan 1.4.1.
The MDC can mount the SAN correctly.
The client is running 10.4.8 server, XSan 1.4.1
The client cannot mount the SAN.
    What I've tried:
    Re-installing XSAN
    Re-installing the 10.4.8 combo update
    Re-installing the 2006-007 security update
Changing from Controller, medium to client and back.
    mount -t ... /Volumes/SAN
Every time I get this in the syslog:
Dec 13 13:54:35 xsanclient kernel[0]: Could not mount filesystem SAN, cvfs error ' Timeout' (25)
    any ideas

  • Cannot mount volume, security policy problem

ive never seen this before until today, but i can no longer access CDs or my USB thumbdrives through Nautilus by clicking on their respective icons. i get the following error dialog
i dont know much about dbus or hal, but the error dialog mentions those. what kind of other info, if any, would you guys need to help me solve something like this?

I believe you need to add the respective user to the "storage" group. Give this a try: as root run
    gpasswd -a USERNAME storage
restart udev or simply reboot. This fixed my problem.

Your help would be highly appreciated.

    Hi,
I am accessing this WS via ARD, so public LAN is definitely there. I have not connected the "Xsan" network (but it should be no problems communicating the Xsan traffic over this single LAN connection).
With the firewall, the situation is more strange. When I try to open the Firewall settings on Sharing, there is a dialog "Other firewall software is running on this computer." I googled this and it seems that this was a common problem on 10.3. They suggest to delete com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist file but it is not there on 10.4.
    "sudo ipfw list" shows this:
00001 allow udp from any 626 to any dst-port 626
65535 allow ip from any to any
Any ideas on how to make Firewall behave as expected? I will try to reinstall if I don't receive a reply.
    Thanks.

  • Mounting usb devices as non-root user ??

How can a non-root user mount a usb flash device?
As root, the device is mounted as:
    mount -F pcfs /dev/dsk/c1tod0s2:c /mnt
The vfstab entry for this is as follows:
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s2:c /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s2 /flash pcfs 2 no -
This is running Solaris 8 on a SunBlade150

    Hello.
    I had the same problem.
If you do not have root rights on the computer the answer is: You cannot mount the device.
I had root access and I wrote a C program that (un-)mounted all possible device files (the "s2" devices as well as the "s2:c" devices because some flash devices come without partition table).
I chowned the file to root and set the "set effective user ID" bit in the file's permissions using chmod after logging in as root - so any user can start the program.
I think this is the most flexible variant because USB devices sometimes are assigned other device names.

  • Kanaka Client unable Mount volume

I have OES11SP2 on SLES 11 SP3 on which I am running KANAKA ENGINE to mount volumes on MAC Client from servers running under same Tree.
Created eDirectory user account which have rights on volumes from two servers under the same tree.
example: 1) abc (volume) under Server1 (Running Kanaka engine)
    2) xyz (volume) under Server2
Note: Tested AFP connectivity working without issues for both the volumes from MAC OS, also eDirectory users can map both volumes on windows machine with Novell client login.
Issue is I cannot mount volume from Server2 using KANAKA Client on MAC OS. However Server1(running kanaka engine) can able to mount.
    any help is highly appreciated.

  • Can't mount volume in obt1 - device offline

    Hi,
I am trying to mount my tape volume in Manage: Drives, but keep getting the error:
can't mount volume in obt1 - device offline
OK, so the volume is offline, but my question is how can i get it online? Anyone have any ideas?
    thx.
    S.

The error device offline refers to the tape device not volume. When the device is "in service" it should be able to mount the volume.
In EM, go to the devices page. Insure that the library and drives have a status of "in service" which means the device is logically available to Oracle Secure Backup.

  • Cannot mount Truecrypt volume (device-mapper error)

I have a 1TB external USB disk (externally powered) and I have created 3 partitions on it:
    Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000202043392 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121600 cylinders, total 1953519616 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
    /dev/sdb1            2048   696322047   348160000    7  HPFS/NTFS
    /dev/sdb2      1683384320  1744824319    30720000   83  Linux
    /dev/sdb3      1744824320  1953517567   104346624    7  HPFS/NTFS
The last partition, /dev/sdb3, has been formatted with Truecrypt 7.0a and I'd like to mount it, but truecrypt reports the following error:
device-mapper: reload ioctl failed: No such file or directory
    Command failed
I am getting the same error with my custom kernel and with stock Arch Linux kernel; what can it be? Can somebody please help me to narrow down this issue?
    Thanks

Ehm..I am trying to mount the device (/dev/sdb3), not the mapper! Although I can see that with file-based truecrypt container the mapper gets mounted. Shan't truecrypt create the mapper and mount that for me in case I select a device?
This is the information of the two mappings created (2_0 and 2_1 since I had already mounted a file-based container):
    Name:              truecrypt2_0
    State:             ACTIVE
    Read Ahead:        256
    Tables present:    LIVE
    Open count:        0
    Event number:      0
    Major, minor:      254, 2
    Number of targets: 1
    Name:              truecrypt2_1
    State:             ACTIVE
    Read Ahead:        256
    Tables present:    LIVE
    Open count:        1
    Event number:      0
    Major, minor:      254, 1
    Number of targets: 1
None of them gets mounted after I get the mentioned error; maybe truecrypt is expecting a dm feature which I have not enabled in my kernel?

  • Backup Controller cannot mount XSAN Volume

    Hi Guys,
I've really have a big problem regarding the XSAN that I've just setup: There are 3 Xserves connected to the SAN - one for the main controller, one for backup and another one for fileserver. After a fresh install of the Leopard Server 10.5.6 on all servers and fresh install of Xsan 2.0 updated to 2.1.1, I tried creating an SAN from the main controller, I added first the main and backup controllers, authenticated them properly and was successful adding them to the SAN. After this, I created the volume and it mounted properly on the main controller. What I don't understand is that whenever I try to mount the volume to the backup controller, it is saying unable to mount and even I tried forcing it to mount in terminal using the command xsanctl mount VOLNAME, its giving me an error saying
"unable to mount volume, Cannot mount XSAN volume error code: 5"
What is that error message? When I tried typing cvadmin to the main controller, it only gave me this message:
    Main Controller:
File System Services (* indicates service is in control of FS)
    1>*XSAN[0] located on 10.0.0.101:49930 (pid 317)
    Select FSM "XSAN"
When I type the same cvadmin to the backup controller, it gave me this message:
    Backup Controller:
File System Service (* indicates service is in control of FS)
    1> XSAN[1] located on 10.0.0.102:50384 (pid 331)
    No FSSs are active
    Select FSM "none"
What is happening? both servers are having a DNS name. Before I created the SAN, from the authenticate window, the server name is just the IP address of the Ethernet 0 (first ethernet port). Now whenever I fire up Xsan Admin, both controllers are now offline and if you authenticate them, the server name info suddenly changed from IP address to a DNS Name (e.g. from 194.170.34.12, changed to hct-mdc.ad.hct.ac.ae) which even if I type my admin username and password cannot authenticate saying "server not found in network"
I really don't know now what to do and they need to fix the issue asap.
I would really appreciate your help guys!
    Thanks.
    jantoniophi

    Hi,
I am accessing this WS via ARD, so public LAN is definitely there.
    Thanks.
