Cannot ping my Surface RT

I've been attempting to simply ping my Surface RT from my Windows 8 laptop.  I can ping from the Surface RT to my laptop.  But not the other way around.  Assumed it was the Firewall.  However I cannot turn off the Windows Firewall on
the Surface RT.  It appears that they've disabled the ability to turn it off?!?  I've enabled ICMP inbound rule for Echo Request on Surface RT Firewall. 
I've tried restarting the Surface RT several times.  I've restarted the laptop as well.  The Surface RT is on the same workgroup as the laptop.  It is not part of a domain.  Looks like I will try resetting the device to factor defaults
and starting from scratch.
I've read other posts where people are having trouble connecting to their Surface RT.  This all started when I wanted to remote debug on the device.  Installed VS Remote Debugger but I cannot discover the device.  This is all very annoying. 
This should just work.  Was able to discover, deploy and debug on my friends Surface so I think there is some issue with mine.
Anyone else having issues connecting to their Surface RT from Visual Studio 2012 and/or Windows 8 laptop??
why do you robot?

I find connecting from VS a problem every time I do it. It's the most appalling process, why they didn't make a tool/app for the Surface that "paves the way" for a successful connection, configuring all that's needed locally, I will never know.
I found that setting "Network discovery" under the horrendous Network and Sharing Center that Vista brought along, isn't enough and that once I'd followed Stankiewicz advice
above I managed to be able to telnet to the Remote Debugger port for a brief amount of time before it stopped again!!
I have two wifi routers here, switching to the other one fixed the problem, as in, the port stayed open and pinging was working.
Then VS was fine, just in time for the Surface to have run out of battery, since I'd been troubleshooting this for 2 hours. Like I did last time. And the time before that. No doubt, it's pointless writing my app anyway since no one's buying Windows anymore.

    I have, what I believe to be, a simple issue - I must be missing something.
    Site to Site VPN with Cisco ASA's. VPN is up, and remote hosts can ping the inside int of ASA (10.51.253.209).
    There is a PC (10.51.253.210) plugged into e0/1.
    I know the PC is configured correctly with Windows firewall tuned off.
    The PC cannot get to the ouside world, and the ASA cannot ping 10.51.253.210.
    I have seen this before, and I deleted VLAN 1, recreated it, and I could ping the local host without issue.
    Basically, the VPN is up and running but PC 10.51.253.210 cannot get out.

    Hi Martin,
    Which way you are trying. Sending traffic via site to site is not working or traffic which you generate to outside world is not working?
    But you say ASA connected interface to PC itself is not pinging that is strange. But try setting up the specific rules for the outgoing connection and check. Instead of not having any ACL.
    If it is outside world the you may need to check on the NAT rules which is not correct.
    If it is site to site then you may need to check few other things.

    Hello Jon,
      Thank you so much for your response. Clients will not be connect to a specific RDP server.  I was hoping if we were to establish a VPN Client tunnel I would like that tunnel to provide full local are access.  So the way the clients are used to is while in the field they use RDP to connect to their desktops on the internal LAN.
    Would you say this would work:

    Hello Wayne,
    Can you use a different subnet range than the internal interface, this could cause you a LOT of issues and hours on troubleshooting, so use a dedicated different Ip address range...
    I can see that the local Pool range is included into the inside interface Ip address subnet range, change that and the related config ( NAT,etc, ) and let us know what happens,

  • 2851 router vpn to 851 router lan clients cannot ping

    Greets - I'm expanding my lab experience by adding a 2851 router to my mix of 18xx and 851/871 units. Some of this infrastructure is in production, some just lab work. I have established good connectivity between 18xx's and 851/871's with IPSEC VPNs (site-to-site static and dynamic), but my problem is with adding in a 2851.
    Setup: 2851 with 12.4 ADVENTK9, WAN on GE0/0 as 216.189.223.bbb/26, LAN on GE0/1 as 172.20.0.1/20 (VPN module, but no additional HWIC modules)
    851 with 12.4 ADVENTK9, WAN on FE4 as 216.53.254.aaa/24, LAN on FE0..3 via BVI1 as 172.21.1.1/24
    The two router WAN ports are bridged via a 3rd router (a Zywall with 216.0.0.0/8 route, with the router at 216.1.1.1) affectionately called the "InterNOT", which provides a surrogate to the great web, minus actual other hosts and dns, but it doesn't matter. As both my WAN addresses are within 216.x.x.x, this works quite well. This surrogate has tested fine and is known to not be part of a problem.
    The 851 has been tested against another 851 with complementary setup and a successful VPN can run between the two.
    I have good LAN-WAN connections on each router. I do have a "Good" VPN connection between the two routers.
    The problem: I cannot ping from a LAN host on 172.20.x.x on the 2851 to any 172.21.1.x (eg 172.21.1.1) host on the 851, and vice versa.
    From a LAN host, I can ping to my InterNOT - for example a dhcp host 172.20.6.2 on the 2851 LAN can ping 216.1.1.1 fine. I can also ping the 851's WAN address at 216.53.254.aaa.
    To complicate matters, if I connect to the routers via console, I CAN ping across the vpn to the destination LAN hosts, in both directions.
    This seems to indicate that there is a bridging problem between the LAN interfaces to the VPN interfaces. I suspect this is a config problem on the 2851, as I have had a similar config working on my 851 to 851 site-to-site setups. I also suspect it is in the 2851's config as I'm still just starting out with this particular router.

    Note that the above are somewhat stripped-down configs, without firewall or WAN ACL's - interestingly my default WAN-Inbound ACLs seem to break connectivity when included, so I realize I have some more cleanup to do there, but the 2851 LAN bridging seems to be what I should concentrate on first.

    First,please delete NAT.If we configured the NAT in the RRAS,the source IP address in all packets sent to 192.168.1.0/24 would be translated to 192.168.1.224.
    Second,please enable the LAN routing in RRAS server.To enable LAN routing,please follow the steps below,
    1.In the RRAS server,Open Routing and Remote Access.
    2.Right-click the server name,then click
    properties.
    3.On the General tab,select
    IPv4 Router check box,and then click Local area network(LAN) routing only.
    Then,announce the 172.16.0.0 network to the router.

  • Cannot ping windows 2008 r2 while it is possible for another machine in the same network

    Hi,
    Recently I have set up a new server with windows 2008 r2 enterprise OS which is a domain member server. 
    At network layer I have two networks one with 192.168.1.0/22 and another with 10.0.0.0/24 network IDs.
    My problem is that I cannot ping the newly installed server from a specific machine. Server's IP address is 192.168.1.56 and the specific machine's IP address is 10.0.0.12 and it is a windows XP machine. Of course I have to say that this problem belongs
    only to this WinXP machine and all the layer 3 issues are tested and correct. This issue happens while at the same time I can ping domain controller which also is a windows 2008 r2 enterprise box and its IP address is 192.168.1.53. It turns more complicated
    when I learned I can ping the winxp machine and connect to it from new server through remote desktop. Firewall also is not the obstacle because I turned it off completely. 
    Can anybody help me fix the problem?

  • Anyconnect VPN peers cannot ping, RDP each other

    I have an ASA5505 running ASA 8.3(1) and ASDM 7.1(1).  I have a remote access VPN set up and the remote access users are able to log in and access LAN resources.   I can ping the VPN peers from the remote LAN.    My problem that the VPN peers cannot ping (RDP, ectc..) each other.   Pinging one VPN peer from another reveals the following error in the ASA Log.
    Asymmetric NAT rules matched for forward and reverse flows; Connection for icmp src outside:10.10.10.8 dst outside:10.10.10.9 (type 8, code 0) denied due to NAT reverse path failure.

    Seems to me that you could clean up the current NAT configuration a bit and make it a bit clearer.
    I would suggest the following changes
    object network VPN-POOL

    Sounds like it's either infrastructure or faulty hardware. Are you sure the port is turned on that you are plugging into?

    Correct! I have resolved this a few minutes earlier. I have assigned the vSwitch to Promiscuous Mode but forgot to switch it to "Accept", the default value is "Reject"

  • I can SSH from the outside but cannot ping ISP gateway from 2911

    Hello all,
    I came across a rather strange issue. I am able to SSH to the device from my home but while I am consoled in, I cannot ping the ISP gateway or any other IP's. As expected, all trace-routes fail without hitting the gateway as the first hop. I have been reading about the NVI0 interface and I decided to use it. Most of the sample cofigs on here use the "old" ip nat inside / outside on the appropriate interfaces. What do you guys suggest?
    Here is the running config. It is rather simple since i did not add all the access-lists except the ones I thought necessary to test the circuit. Please point out any mistakes or errors. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Chris,
    That is what how I am used to configure the NAT, but IOS 12.3 and on introduced interface NVI0, which according to cisco documentation should make applying the NAT statements "easier". IP nat enable has to be enabled on all interfaces and then NVI0 makes the "inside" and "outside" decisions. I was hoping that someone could clarify the real use of that NVI0 interface and if it causes problems. Apparently it cannot be removed from the config.

         I have an issue wherein my guest vlan cannot ping its gateway thus it cant go through the web auth page. I have been given an ip address with corresponding gateway, subnet and dns for the guest vlan. I have allowed all the vlans in the trunk port for wlc and ap connection.
         wat do you think is the problem? hope you could help on this.

    Hi Neri
    The way this should work is that the client connects to the guest network and gets an IP address from DHCP. The DHCP configuration should include the default gateway and must include a DNS address.
    When the client opens a web browser the browser tries to connect to the configured home page. This means that a DNS lookup is sent out and the controller intercepts it and forwards it on. Providing there is a response from the DNS server the controller will cause the client browser to re-direct to the web authentication login page.
    It is therefore essential that the controller can see the DNS server. Forget the PING for now - DNS is a must. You can prove the rest of the system by ensuring the guest client has an IP address. Open the client browser and try and connect to http://1.1.1.1 (assuming your virtual interface on the controller is 1.1.1.1). If you get re-directed to the web authentication login page then the issue is a DNS issue.

    I have a new 1602i standalone AP trying to use RADIUS authentication.  For some reason the 1602 cannot ping the RADIUS server, but will get a response from other devices.  Both are on the same subnet, the new one at .213 and the RADIUS at .209.

  • Client in same WLAN cannot ping eachother

    WiFi clients in same WLAN(ssid) cannot ping eachother.
    AP's are in Flexconnect mode, WiFi clients are able to access network and internet etc, but not able to ping eachother.
    whereas, Lan devices from same network are able to ping these wifi client.
    There is no firewall or ACL as such in WLC or local switch. Also Peer-to-Peer blocking is 'disabled'.
    Also i'm able to see client arp entries in WLC and local switch.
    What could be causing this issue, and how can we resolve this?

    Did you check if WiFi clients are able to ping LAN Devices on the same network or not?

  • Cannot ping/telnet/ssh to GigabitEthernet interface of Cisco AP2602

    I have a Cisco 2602 (ios ver 15.0)
    I can connect trough it's SSID normally but I can't access to the AP itself. From the AP cannot ping to gateway, even though the AP can be seen on cdp from the switch.
    But my other AP Cisco 1140 (ios 12.4) can be accessed with the same configuration on the switch (switchport mode trunk, allowed vlan 1 & 2)
    vlan 1 is for user, vlan 2 for management...

    With autonomous access point, the management has to be the native vlan.  The issue is that your vlan 1 is native and that is for users, but your management is on vlan 2 which is management. This will not work as it is a requirement to keep management on a native vlan.  You would have to move the users to a different vlan since vlan 1 is typically tagged so that you can define on the trunk port on the switch that vlan 2 is native.
