  • Error in restoring ipod-error (1604)

Alright, so I tried to get the 1.1.4 ipod software upgrade and it just wouldn't work. Basically, my iTunes said that my ipod needed to be restored in order for it to be updated. So I clicked restore and it said that "Ipod cannot be restored...Error(1604). And after this it said I needed to restore it again. I kept pressing the restore button and nothing would happen except for that one error window to pop up. Also, on my ipod screen, it would have an iTunes icon and a USB cable connector with an arrow pointing at the icon. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!! I am in need of listening to my music!!!

Verify that you are connecting the ipod touch directly to a usb 2.0 port on your computer, not through a monitor or usb hub. Reboot your computer, on your ipod try changing settings>general>autolock to never before you attempt to update again.
If that doesn't help Try this posted in another thread:
Made sure my iPod was OFF (hold down the sleep button till red off slider appears - slide to turn off)
While plugging in your ipod and during the entire "restore" process hold down the "HOME" button.

  • I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked.

I tried to restore my 120 gb iPod and got an error 1413 message - "cannot restore iPod". I started to reset turning the hold switch on and off and now my iPod seems to be permanently locked. I had been having trouble syncing music, When I tried to sync, iTunes said it didn't recognize my iPod, even though I was on the iPod page in iTunes which showed the model number and the serial number of my iPod

I am having essentialy the same problem, but my iPod came from a PC and is now on a PC. The person who gave me the iPod didn't give me the wall adapter piece, so I bought a "Griffin" brand that was said to be compatible with this model. When I first plugged it into the wall, the Apple appeared with a bar underneath as though it was loading the new software. When the bar got to the end, the "plug into the wall" icon reappeared, but when I plug it in to the wall now, that icon is the only thing that shows, even after resetting and trying to run diagnostics.
When I doc the iPod on a charger I have or plug the USB into my computer and "reset" it, a battery with a charge icon appears, but there is no "motion" in the icon so it doesn't appear to be charging. The screen eventually goes back to the apple then to the "plug it into the wall" icon. HELP!!! Is is possible the wall adapters isn't the right one? Should I be charging through a firewire cable instead (which I also don't have...)?

  • Cannot Restore iPad2 - Error Code 3173?

Never had an issue with an Apple product before.
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    iTunes 10.5.0.142
    iPad 4.3.5
Attempted to update iPad software to 5.0 and got the error code "cannot restore iPad - error code 3173"
Freaked out and disconnected the iPad and it seems fine, no data/information loss and it DID NOT update as it is still running version 4.3.5.
No other external USB ports in use, never had an issue updating previously.
Thoughts/ideas/fix?  Seems like a lot of people are posting asking for help with this but I don't see a fix anywhere.

Good idea. I wish I had waited. My iPad2 will not Restore so it is hammered. My iPhone 3Gs is updating now so we'll see. But this is definately an Appple problem as all 5 devices at our house had one issue or another. My iPad2 fails with the unrelated error 1162. The USB driver does not install. For my iPhone 3Gs, the USB driver installed and the update is nearly complete. Oh, it's backing up now. I'll just have to see if it works but it is going much better than our iPads. The iPads seem to be the big issue.

  • Only apple logo appears, cannot restore ipod, tried to restore and received error code 1602, what can I do?

I am trying to figure out why I cannot restore my Ipod touch 64, when I get through the whole restore it states "error code 1602".  I have used the original cable that came with the Ipod and have tried it on two different computers.  When I turn it on only the apple logo appears and nothing else happens.  Please help

    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software.
If the phone is stuck on the Apple logo, you can try a hard reset (deletes no info). Press and hold the power button and Home button until the phone turns off. Then try to power it up again.
Simply restarting your computer will not cause your iPhone to stop working unless there is a major issue with software conflicts on your computer... i.e.... corrupt iTunes installation.
Try disabling any security software you might have and avoid using and USB hubs or extenders etc.
If the hard reset doesn't work in getting your phone to boot up, then you'll have to do a restore of the device.

  • No matter what I do I cannot restore ipod classic. Ipod is corrupt with unknown error 1439.cannot restore the ipod Have tried all options but . can anyone help?

I recently bought a second-hand ipod classic.  When connecting to itunes the message reads that the ipod is corrupt and needs to be restored to factory settings.  However, this does not solve the issue and I get the message saying unable to restore, unknown error 1439.  No matter what i have tried through apple support i get the same result.  My computer runs Windows XP but I have also tried on my laptop which operates Vista and still no joy.  Anyone able to solve this one?

Normally unknown error is due to timeout, cause by
connected to slow USB port at the front of the PC, or using USB Hubs - Better connect to the USB HUb at the back of the PC. (Some Laptop, has only one High Power -USB2.0 port
USB resource low, due to sharing of other USB devices - Disconnect all other USB devices when Restoring.
Winsocks conflict with iTunes - Disconnect Internet and Stop firewall and Antivirus, emails apps.

This wont solve your problem. but is very helpful in troubleshooting.
It would also help, if you can state
Which version of iTunes are your running?
What is your iPod software version as shown in the iTunes summary page?

  • Cannot restore ipod and other issues.

If someone can solve my ipod issues, you will totally make my birthday. Here's the deal. Sometimes when I connect my Ipod to my computer, it sees it as a just a removable disk drive. When that happens, Itunes tells me that my ipod is corrupt. When it tells me I should restore, it then tells me error 1418. I followed the steps on the post on here about that error code and it doesn't work. However, sometimes my computer recognizes my ipod, a message will pop up from memory card manager saying failed ot locate supported file types or there are no photos found on this device. Then my ipod will sync in itunes and start copying files. It says it's copying (which in actuality it's not copying anything or i might get a song or two to copy to my ipod) but then it stops and a message pops up saying, The ipod "Mike's ipod" cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found. I just don't know what to even try anymore. I've looked at so many posts and still nothing works. Please if anyone can help me I'd appreciate it so much!!!

    Hi,
Ok, there seems to be a problem... I've now been running Disk First Aid Erase on my iPod for an hour and a half. So far the blue bar showing progress seems to be stuck on about 5mm in...
Btw... there's been 2 people w probs posting here (I couldn't find the link to make a new post and joined this as it had similar probs)- the original guy has sorted his problem. Mine revolves around an iPod that showed up corrupted when I plugged into my Mac after not using the iPod for a couple of months.
iTunes can't restore it - error sign... As it also now shows up unrecognizable when I plug it into my Mac but with a "you can intialize" possibility I'm trying that as suggested. That takes me to Disk First Aid where pod erase seems to be stuck....
Hope somebody out there can help... thanks!

  • Cannot Restore Unknown error 2001

iTunes says it cannot restore my iTunes and has an Unknown Error 2001. It all started after it failed the new update. Any ideas?

    Hi amigos:
Same happen to me as soon as the new release (1.1.3). Sounds weird but the only think you have to do is plug and unplug your iPod 3 0r 4 times.
I can assure you that after 4 or 5 tries everything will be ok.
    Why is happening that?
Think Apple sold so many iPod (4,000,000) and we are trying to get it at the same time, so they cant handle to manage all of them. Maybe there is not as much slot as they need for everyone to download the new version. Because you cant download the new release your iPod don't get the new software while the old one is deleted.
Believe me, try to plug/unplug 4 or 5 times at the problem will be solve. Or much better, just next time don't try to upgrade as soon as the new release is on iTunes and wait 1 week

  • Ipod Error 1604?

I got the new 3.1.3 update and i went to update it and it gave me an "Unknown error 1604" I called apple support and they hung up on me right in the middle of the call. Its stuck in recovery mode and i cant restore and update. I can't even restore at all. So now I'm stuck with a screen with "Connect to itunes" on my ipod and I can't fix it.

Only thing I have not tried is this step,
"During the update and restore process, iTunes needs to contact Apple. Ensure that your computer has the following ports open and can access these servers:
    Port 80
    Port 443
    phobos.apple.com, albert.apple.com, gs.apple.com"
    I'm not sure how?

  • Failed iPhone software update to 2.0, failed restore with error 1604

I downloaded the latest iTunes 7.7 and upon "Check for Update", I was notified that iPhone firmware 2.0 for the 2G iPhone was out. I downloaded the firmware, synced/backed up settings, and then rebooted. Then something went wrong...
I restarted iTunes and the iPhone, per Apple support suggestion, and iTunes found the iPhone connected, but displayed "iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes." I clicked OK, and then Restore. The restoration process began with an option to either cancel or "Restore and Update". Cancel is a worthless option, so I did "Restore and Update". Here it begins extracting the software and then prepares the iPhone for restore. The iPhone flickered, disconnected and reconnected to the computer, and then presumably continued the process until ending with the following error: "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1604)." Nothing else happens.
I've tried everything, and am really at my wits end. I have installed/reinstalled iTunes several times. I have tried reinstalling drivers. I've tried rebooting the computer several times. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything. I've been restoring this iPhone for a good 3 hours and nothing seems to work!
I am supposed to give this iPhone to my mother for her birthday tomorrow and now it won't even turn on. A brick makes a great birthday gift afterall...
    Any ideas?

People who have still not solved error 1604 and had a bricked iPhone no matter what they tried, might manage to revive it by following these instructions (on how to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4).
    You will need the following:
    - iTunes 7.5 (NOT 7.7)
    - iPhone firmware iPhone1,11.1.4_4A102Restore.ipsw
    Step 1:
Uninstall iTunes 7.7 completely if you have it and restart your computer.
    Step 2:
    Install iTunes 7.5
    Step 3:
Your iPhone should be in 2 states, either stuck on the "Slide to make emergency calls" screen, or you tried to restore before and it's stuck on the new look "connect to iTunes" screen. Either way you're ok.
Enter the phone in DFU mode (You must have the iPhone connected to the computer and iTunes running). To do this, hold the power & the home button down for about 9 seconds.
Why 9s? Well people say 10s, but it depends how slow you are at counting. Too short and it doesn't work, too long and the apple logo appears.
When you hit about 6-7s the screen should turn off, leave it for 2 more seconds and release the power button, STILL holding the home button. If all went well, you should NOT see an apple logo, the screen should be dead.
Keep holding home until windows/Mac informs you that it's found new hardware, OR iTunes tells you that your iPhone is in recovery mode. Remember, screen should be blank.
If you see an apple logo, repeat the process for less time until you get it right. Took me a little time.
    Step 4:
Shift/Option click the restore button in iTunes and select the iPhone1,1_1.1.4 firmware you downloaded.
Fingers crossed it should restore back to 1.1.4.

  • Cannot restore iPod Touch 5g: iTunes "Waiting for iPod"

SIDE NOTE: For a TL:DR, I've made all the important stuff bold.
I've been having this issue with my iPod Touch 5G where I cannot restore it no matter what I do.
This article, This article, This article, nor This article helped me.
When my iPod is not connected to the computer, it literally does nothing at all, no matter what you do. When you plug it into the computer, the computer recognizes it as an iPod, but it says "Serial Number: n/a", and will not display any info. I can tell my iPod detects button presses because I can connect it and disconnect it just by holding in the Power and Home buttons. After plugging it in, the bar at the top of iTunes says "Extracting software", then after that bar fills up it goes to "Waiting for iPod". It then says "Preparing iPod for restore", and then fluctuates between the last two, once or twice. After that, iTunes gets stuck on "Waiting for iPod", and stays there. The iPod, however, displays an apple logo with an empty progress bar beneath it. I took it to an Apple Store not too long ago, and they couldn't fix it. The employee there couldn't do anything more than what I've done. He said that my only option is to get a new one. I still haven't lost hope, though, because there has been two other cases where I've fixed devices where something like this has happened. It's just not working now.
    Anyways, please help!
    Sincerely, Alex.

    - Try another cable
    - Try another USB port
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Try on another computer
    - Not clear you tried DFU mode and then restore
