i cannot start Firefox with message "YOUR FIREFOX PROFILE CANNOT BE LOADED. IT MAY BE MISSING OR INACCESSIBLE"
This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
*Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
*Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/

You can use one of these to make Firefox create a new default profile or reuse an existing profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile

I cannot start Firefox. Always start with an error. So, I cannot start it in secure mode...
Uninstalling and reinstalling it is not a solution. I have updated from version 21 to 22 without succés. version 19 is the same... So,my problema is not depending of the version (I have tried with 19 to 22 versions).

[solved] cannot start firefox after xulrunner update on oct 4
since upgrading yesterday i cannot start firefox.
the console gives the following error message:
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9.0.1 and 1.9.0.1.
A quick google search shows a gentoo bug with the same symptoms - the solution was recompiling firefox. Is anybody else having this problem?
edit: apparently i had firefox-branded installed and therefore didn't get the upgraded pacman package - could somebody please delete this post? thanks

I may have deleted files that had firefox running. Cannot find them, they may have been duplicates. When trying to start firefox got message telling me firefox was already running and had to stop the process or restart pc. Tried that numerous times with no result.
Deleted and reinstall firefox several times and same thing happened. You may have deleted the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder]<br />
Use the Firefox profile manager to create a new profile.

Firefox had a problem and creashed ... I cannot start firefox
Windows Otlook at same time stopped working with the fpllowing message: cannot start Microsoft Outlook. Cannot initialize shared utilities. ........ help
Hey dapaley,
Have you tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode? Hold down "shift" while Firefox is starting up. If you can start it in Safe Mode, you should read [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]].
There is also a lot of useful stuff in the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Firefox-not-start Firefox won't start] Knowledge Base article.
Hopefully this helps! -
Every time I start Firefox, it crashes immediately. I've tried everything and spent a lot of time trying to fix it but couldn't. I uninstalled, delete Mozilla Firefox file, re-installed it and again it crashed and couldn't open.
You can use one of these to start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u>:
*On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
*On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
*Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode -
I use Vista on my dell inspiron 1721. Firefox closed itself, computer shut itself down, a lot of 'corrupted files' were deleted without my interference, and when Vista finally came back up, Firefox wouldn't start. Nowit says I have to fix the firefox directory. How do I do that? The help page on the profile didn't help me. Thanks, mhixon This started when I was browsing on Drudge report. The popup message said:
Could not initialize the application's security component. ....
I could not start firefox again after that.
How do I update a graphics driver? You may need to delete the file secmode.db as well.
Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.<br />
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
See:

[Solved] Cannot start firefox nor man pages without root acount.
Hi all,
when i try to start firefox with a normal user account, it doesn't start, but if i do sudo firefox
it do starts.
The same happens with the man pages, if i do man ls
returns "no hay ninugna pagina sobre ls", but if i do sudo man ls
the man page appears.
Can anyone offer suggestions? Is there information you need? Thanks in advance.
Last edited by SWcarlos (2008-05-25 21:18:23)My current values in /etc/profile.d/mozilla-commons.sh are:
export PATH="${PATH}:/opt/mozilla/bin:/usr/bin"
i added :/usr/bin but there is no change, even if i comment that line, nothing changes
with MANPATH /usr/profile i have
export MANPATH="/usr/man:/usr/X11R6/man"
my manual pages are in /usr/man, but one more time even if i comment that line, nothing changes
sudo man ls -> the man page appears
man ls -> "no hay ninugna pagina sobre ls"
one thing i realized, is that before i made any changes, i try to man as normal user anything on /usr/man subfolders, and that man pages do appear, both sudo and normal user.
but ls vi sudo and other man pages only appear as root.

I have Windows XP SP3. Internet Explorer does work, which is how I'm able to tell you this. I have few plugins, and nothing unusual; in fact, before the popup window invited me to upgrade to Firefox 10.0.1, it first did a check for incompatible plugins and apparently found none.
Maybe I should do a System Restore and not try Firefox 10 again until the bugs are fixed. You may need to delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing the latest Firefox.<br />
In case you still have problems after installing then check your security software.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.
See:
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Firewalls
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up -
when i start firefox i get a message that asks if i want to install an update, then it says it cannot install and asks me to close an other firefox progams and try again. there are no other firfox program runing and the the loops starts over.
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder:
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
(%LOCALAPPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates)
Do a clean reinstall:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data when uninstalling.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
I have windows xp and installed Firefox version 4. and it informed me it disabled something because it was incompatible but I did not write it down. do you know what that is? after that, my laptop cannot start net.exe, calcls.exe, and cmd.exe application any more.

running windows xp Firefox worked yesterday , I have not made any changes now it will not open at all. All of the troubleshooting requires me to be in firefox , if I cannot open how can I reset or do anything?
Firefox doesn't give any error message, it just stalls or never shows up?
If you haven't already, could you check the tips in this article: [[Firefox won't start - find solutions]].
If you want to try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode, you can hold down the Shift key while double-clicking the Firefox icon. You should get a small dialog with the choices of Safe Mode and Reset. I suggest trying Safe Mode first. -
When I start firefox through shortcut icon on desktop, the message comes that Windows cannot find C:\...\jqsnotify.exe . Tried to search the file through Search also but could not find the file.
That is the Java Quick Starter, a couple of options for you:
# Open the add-ons manager (in the Tools menu select Add-ons)
# In the list of Extensions, click on Java Quick Starter to select it, then click on Disable
When you re-start Firefox that should stop the error.
The second option is to re-install Java. You are using an old version of Java so it is recommended that you install the latest version, available from http://java.com/
