Cannot uninstall Safari Beta - using OS 10.4.11 - help

Hi - I was having trouble with my current version of Safari, so I accidentally downloaded the new beta version, which doesn't work on my MAC (I have OS 10.4.11). So, I tried downloading Safari 3, but it wouldn't install because it said I had a newer version installed. So, I tried uninstalling the beta version, but it blocks it and tells me that I need at least OS 10.5 to use this version. Now I do not have ANY working versions of Safari and can't proceed. Can anyone help? Thanks.

I have the security updates from 5/12/09 and 2/14/09 plus others before that. I normally check software for updates weekly and download any available.

  • Why cannot uninstall Safari 4

It is so unMac to have a software program you cannot install. I do not want Safari 4. I like simplicity. Also, I have clients that do not use 4 but 3. Having it on my computer is costing me time and money.
I have used Macs for almost 20 years. The culture is changing.
Tech support has been great, but there is nothing they can do. Until the non-Mac world catches up, there should be a "downgrade" or uninstall app.
Forcing an application on a user is just not right.

    Welcome to the forums!
Nobody forced you to upgrade to Safari 4. You chose to download and install it.
there should be a "downgrade" or uninstall app.
I am inclined to agree. IMO all applications should come with an uninstaller.
The difficulty in uninstalling Safari 4 lies in the fact that it shares some components, like webkit, with other applications, which would cease to work if it was not done properly.
The only safe way to uninstall Safari is to perform and archive and install:
    How to Archive & Install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
to retrieve an earlier version of Safari from your install disks.
Lastly, if you are really running 10.5.2, Safari 4 will not run on your system, as it requires 10.5.7.

  • I cannot uninstall Namoroka beta version 3.6.3

I've tried to uninstall Namoroka beta version 3.6.3 and the uninstaller bugged. Now I have half an installation that I can't fully uninstall, which is pretty annoying.
I think if I could get a link to download and re-install the 64 bit version of Namoroka 3.6.3, maybe I could repair my installation and attempt a new uninstall.

Just delete the Namoroka program folder if the uninstaller doesn't work.<br />
You may need to use a registry cleaner or edit the registry yourself to remove (orphaned) Namoroka registry keys.

  • Cannot force Safari to use Adobe Reader in Leopard for pdf

Vanguard.com only supports download of pdfs on a Mac if Safari is using Adobe Reader. (Yes, that's totally awesome.)
I can't seem to force Safari to do that; it will only use Safari's built-in pdf reader.
    - In Adobe Reader 8.1.1's preferences, the option "Display PDF in browser using" is greyed out.
    - In Adobe Reader, selecting Help -> Repair Adobe Reader Installation says there is nothing to repair.
    - /Library/Internet Plug-ins and ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins do not contain AdobePDFViewer.plugin, nor can I find it anywhere on my machine.
    - I've reinstalled Adobe Reader 8.1.1 a number of times already, to no avail.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Does the iOS device see the network?

  • Cannot Uninstall, Install, or use

Ran the auto update, and now got the following message:
"The Older version of apple software update cannot be removed. Contact your technical support group."
I have tried just about everything listed in the forums, with no success.
Windows will not uninstall(via the control panel):
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Apple Software Update
    Itunes
So here I am, stuck with no working software, no uninstall options, and 2 ipods. And, to top it off system restore has failed to resolve this.
    Please help. I'll buy beer.

+I do get a missing .msi messages when trying to uninstall.+
Okay. That's usually problems with your installation configuration information.
    Let's try the following procedure.
First, head into your Add/Remove programs and uninstall your QuickTime. If it goes, good. If it doesn't, we'll just attend to it when we attend to iTunes, Apple Software Update and Apple Mobile Device Support.
Next, download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility.
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Once you've installed it, use it to clear any existing iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Support, Apple Software Update and/or QuickTime installation configuration information from the PC. Launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any iTunes, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support and/or QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover program files.
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the iTunes folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (4) Right-click the Apple Software Update folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
    (5) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (7) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (8) Restart your computer.
Now try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? If so, reboot the PC again and try launching iTunes. Does it launch properly this time?

  • Cannot Install Safari Beta

I updated to the 10.4.10. After the update Safari would no longer open and would crash every time. I deleted Safari and then tried to reinstall Safari (the beta) or any of the other Safari's (1.0, 1.2, 2.0.1) I have a 1.2 GHz Ibook /512 with 10.4.10. Anyone have any ideas?

Safari crashes possibly because you are using incompatible versions of either Safari Plus (for cookies) and/or SafariStand. They both have updated versions compatible with 10.4.10 and Safari 3.
Important to get Safari 2.0.4 back on your machine before you can update to Beta 3. Also, important you update any plug-ins or InputManager items for compatibility purposes with 10.4.10 and/or Safari 3.
    To reinstall Safari 2.0.4:
Have a look at this Apple article for installing other software, including Safari, from the Tiger DVD - see the section titled More custom reinstallation options with Mac OS X 10.4.
    Other Steps
Move the Safari.pkg file in the HD>Library>Receipts folder to the trash.
As a precaution, prior to reinstalling Safari, move your Safari folder, found via the Finder in your Home Folder>Library to the Desktop. It has your bookmarks, history etc. Once the reinstall is completed, move the folder back to its original location writing over the newly created folder.
Remember too, the version of Safari you install will be specific to the Version on your installer DVD. Therefore, run Software Update and see if Safari updates appear. If not, reapply the 10.4.10 combined update to bring Safari up to the current version.
"Repair Permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder when you are finished.

  • Safari Crashes (after installing and uninstalling Safari beta 3)

I noticed that Safari began to crash when I installed the beta. After reverting to Safari 2.0.4 the problem only got worse. I have the latest updates from Apple and am using OS 10.4.10. I can rarely use the internet for more than a couple of minutes before I get the message saying that I must restart my computer. Here is the problem report that I get when I restart my computer.

    MacBook 2,1   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

To start from the top, these are the external devices that I have used on my computer: Wireless Mighty Mouse, Wired Apple Keyboard, Cannon i450 printer, and Nikon Cookpix L12 camera. If it makes a difference, I didn't install the software with the camera, I just use iPhoto. The camera is the only new thing (bought about a month ago) that I've plugged into my computer. Everything else has been used long before the problem came up. This issue still occurs when I have nothing plugged into my computer, including mouse and keyboard.
Next, I am not aware of installing any 3rd party software to Safari. The issue has only occured when I've been using Safari. Sometimes I've had other applications open at the same time, like Stickies or Excel, but the problem report always looks the same.
If the issue is faulty RAM, would it just spring up on me? (I bought the computer in November, so it isn't "brand new")
One thing I have noticed is that the computer has never crashed when I've plugged it directly into my internet router, but I don't do that often. I don't know if this is relavent or not.

  • Cannot uninstall, reinstall or use itunes!!

I have a pc using windows 8 (I believe).  Have used and downloaded music to an IPOD in the past.  But lately I cannot get itunes to open up.  I just hooked up an apple tv box and trying to connect to itunes, but everytime I try to open, uninstall (to reinstall, which it was suggested I do) it gives a message that it cannot locate 'itunes.msi'.  I have searched in program files, etc... and cannot locate it, and therefore cannot try to uninstall/reinstall.  What do I do?  I am not very savy on the computer.  Thanks a million!!

    Hi youngbloodmary,
Have you been using the steps in the following article to help you uninstall iTunes?
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923
Especially take note that these items need to be uninstalled in a specific order:
    1. Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel
Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Important: Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Cannot uninstall PC Suite using PC Suite Cleaner!

My PC Suite Installation 6.86.9.0 was not working properly anymore so I uninstalled it and attempted to re-install.
However the uninstall apparently was incomplete such that the installer complained about it and stopped.
PC Suite Cleaner (3.6.002)(does not resolve the problem either since in cannot operate on the installed PC Suite version!
    Any help appreciated.
    Kind regards, Waldemar

Playing within the registry of XP can be quite dangerous. Have you tried rebooting your computer? Try to install pc suite again after a reboot.
If not, open the list of installed programs and find pc suite (if it's still shown in there of course) and uninstall it. I guess it will come with a message that it might already be uninstalled but hopefully it will remove the entry there if there is one no matter what error message pops up.
Then install ccleaner  and remove all trash and run a registry scan on it. Hopefully this would remove all corrupted or invalid entries and maybe fix it. It's at least a safer way to remove dead ends in the registry than doing it your self.
Reboot the computer and try to install the pc suite again.

  • I Cannot Uninstall Adobe Reader X (10.1.6), Please Help!

I need to Uninstall Adobe Reader X (10.1.6)
Adobe Reader X (10.1.6) is crashing everytime so I tried to uninstall it in Control Panel. I get the message "This patch package could not be opened. Verify that  the package perhaps exists and that you can access it..." This page http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/error-1635-patch-package-not.html explains so well but not for my Adobe version 10.1.6 - I don't have the file HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer if I wanted to apply it...I know Adobe has a  cleaner but I don't see it's for Adobe 10.1.6. • How do I uninstall safari 4 beta?

I am a new mac user so any help would be appreciated. I have a new macbook. I downloaded and installed safari 4 beta and don't like the problems it causes. I can't access hotmail. I can get in but can't open any of the emails. I also can't click and open links in emails. I want to uninstall safari beta 4 but don't know how. I'd like to go back to the previous version. Any help would be appreciated and remember I'm a newbie mac user so be gentle!

That would normally work if there was a previous version installed. However, I deleted all my previous versions and the Uninstaller will not uninstall Safari since it can't find a previous version. I downloaded an earlier version 3.2.3 but it tells me that I have a later version installed and won't install 3.2.3. Furthermore, whatever version I bring up has concierge in its header line which I can't get rid of either. Finally, Safari continues to crash even after I reset it, delete whatever concierge items I can find on my computer, etc. Help is disparately needed. Fortunately, I am an old Firefox user, and now trying Camino and Opera but I would like help in figuring out how to use Safari. Thanks.

  • Can't install the new Safari beta

I've got a problem installing Safari beta 3.
I am always told "You cannot install Safari Beta 3 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
Any ideas what is going on? I have plenty of space. That isn't the problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Hi
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
Safari must reside in the top level of the Applications folder for the installer to work. If you put Safari in a sub-folder, or moved to a different location, then return it to the correct location, then try the Installer.
If at any point you choose to revert to Safari 2.0.4, you must use the Uninstaller that is found in the Installation package. Any other method will create havoc in the operating system.
With either the Install or Uninstaller, do not use the computer while it is running. You'll be instructed to restart the computer once it completes.

  • Cannot uninstall or reinstall Adobe Air on XP - tried everything

I cannot uninstall or reinstall Adobe Air and now Pandora is not working. If I click the Air installer it says Air is already installed but the Pandora app says I need to install Air. If I look in add/remove programs it is not listed. I have tried the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and the Microsoft Fix it but Air does not show up in them either. I am running XP SP3.              Thanks, Lance

Regarding error 1606 - have a look at this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886549/.
If you still cannot uninstall Adobe Reader, use the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to remove it.  (But I recently heard of problems when using the cleanup tool if Office 2007 is installed.)
After removing Adobe Reader, download http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/9.x/9.3/enu/AdbeRdr930_en_US.msi, save it to disk, then close all browser windows and run the downloaded installer.
