Cannot update iPod to 1.2.1 (error 48)

I'm trying to turn my Mac formatted iPod into a PC formatted iPod. (to sell it to a friend) To do that it says I have to update to 1.2.1. (currently it is 1.1) The file is 6.2 MB. When I finish downloading the file, it gives me an error 48 ad that I have to download it all again which on my dial up takes about an hour.
I want to just download it from a website instead of through itunes cos then at least I can keep the download!
Any ideas?

Cannot update ipod-unknown error occured(-50)

I downloaded a movie to my ipod using nero 7.0 without difficulty,accidently deleted it and now when I try to redo I get "cannot update ipod,unknown error occured (-50), disk could not be read or written to. It won't even let me reload the ipod. still shows error. P.S. I've tried the 5 R's

Have you gotten any of your songs from limewire? I've seen some posts on another website about this error maybe having something to do with songs from limewire.

I have had this ipod touch for several years but didnt use it. My sister had it up and running but used her computer and now I cannot update my ipod it comes as cannot restore my ipod unknown error -1? I am wondering if there is anything that I can do?

Add files to library, but cannot update ipod to put them on there

I do not even have the option to do this since my ipod is constantly stuck on the "do not disconnect screen" when it is plugged in. Also, "file->update ipod" isnt even lit up so I cannot select it to update my ipod. I tried reinstalling the software, resetting, restarting, etc, but nothing. This is the second ipod nano apple sent me, since the first one froze. Could this be a problem? I think the serial number is the same though. Is there anything else I need to reinstall?

Cannot update iPod Sofeware

I just bought a 2 gig nano(second generation) today. When I connect my nano to my computer. It says "a newer version of the iPod sofeware is available (version 1.1)" and I have version 1.0.1 right now. But when I click on the update button, iTunes will display an error message:

Do you guys know what the problem might be and how to fix that.

Cannot update ipod files in use w/ itunes 7

when i am playing tracks off my 4th gen ipod through itunes 7 i kepp getting a can't update ipod files in use message when the song changes, any one else see this

Oh god. Why did i update to ITunes 7... I finally have my ipod recognised by windows, and itunes but cant restore because i get some crappy error about "The Network Connection Was Reset"

From Apple's article cited at the end of my post:
Error 1604: This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
When prompted, click OK.
Close and re-open iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
