Cant change line length in terminal. I googled at least 2^3x.

I am troubleshooting something out of Head First Python. It has to do with a server and I ran ps x to see if the server was running.
But a good number of the processes were longer than the 137 characters my terminal is set at, so I cant read the important part, the file name.
Also a long command wraps around but doesnt do a line feed so it types over the beginning of the command.
I tried to find the answer on the net, but they seemed to have everything but this.
Appreciate any understanding you may have.

You can drag the edges of the Terminal window as you would any application, to resize it. This should give you a corresponding increase in line number and character width. Alternatively you can open the Terminal preferences and in the Settings > Window tab you can set the default size of the Terminal window (column and row numbers). The default is 80x24.

How can I change the length of multiple lines at the same time?

This just seems like it should be a no-brainer, but obviously for me it isn't. I'm trying to change the length of multiple lines, that are at different angles, at the same time, in CS4. Basically, I design the face of dials used for airplane instrument gauges (like RPM, Torque, etc), and they have gradiation marks (lines) located all around, similar what a clock looks like with the hour and minute gradiation marks (lines). Is there a way to select all the lines, that I know are the same length, and change it to a different length, that's accurate to the 1/100th of an inch? It would just be like selecting multiple lines that have all the same stroke, then using the stroke box to change the stroke weight from .025in to .030in.
I've used the transform box to change the 'height' of a line before, but the line has to be at 90 degrees (straight up and down), and that won't work for the lines that are at, say, a 45 degree angle.
I hope i'm explaining this in a way that someone will understand. If not, I can sure try to clarify more, or insert the picture so you could see what i'm talking about.

OK, after fiddling around with everyone's ideas, I think I finally got it. I knew there had to be something with proportions between W and H, but couldn't figure out the math, until Jacob answered with:
"If each line must be strecthed from the inner/outer end, you may select each and use the Transform palette, choosing the right Reference Point, multiplying by the proportion in W or H (1.75/1.5), and Ctrl/Cmd clicking."
Now, I basically did everything above, (but I couldn't figure out what you were talking about with the Ctrl Clicking thing), except after figuring out the right proportion (which ends up being so small you guys would die if I told you the number; the numbers I gave earlier were just an example and much larger than what i'm really working with) I just clicked the little chain next to the W and H boxes to constrain the proportions. I then put the new number (multiplied proportion by whatever was in W) in the W box. The line lengthened perfectly toward the center of the dial, keeping the correct angle!
And Harron-Thanks for the link to Teri's, It is going to help with some things I do, but most of the dials I design don't have equal distances between each gradiation mark, and the blueprints I work off of usually have exactly what distances that the grad. marks are supposed to be. So, after selecting one of my grad marks that is already at it's correct place, I then use the rotate tool and Alt-Clicking the very center of the dial, I can then put in exactly what distance I want the next grad. mark to be at, I hit copy (instead of OK) and there will be a new grad. mark exactly the correct distance from my original. Then if I want to have the 3rd grad. mark I just hit Ctrl-D and it will copy another mark to the next position. I don't know if you necessarily wanted to know all that, but i thought i'd explain why I like doing it that way.

Line length limit

Hi,
I'm having a problem with a large group (about 2500 members). I first thougt this is a Directory Server Problem, but the Server Log is identical for small and large groups and does not show any problems. Additionally even if i put the group (with all members) into /etc/group, I still cant see the group!
When using vi to edit /etc/group it sais: line too long.
I figured out this to be a problem with the maximum line length defined in /usr/include/limits.h (LINE_MAX). The value set here is 2048, but my line is about 13K.
Could my explanation be correct? If so, how can I change the line limit to a bigger value?

I might not have explaned enough the issue. I dont want to edit the file with vi, this was just what I experienced on the side. My real problem is, that Solaris doesnt know this group, even though it is in /etc/group!
id just shows the gid number, but not the group name:
bash-2.05$ id
uid=21345(ab123) gid=10000
bash-2.05$ groups
10000
getent doesnt know the group too:
bash-2.05$ getent group gp_everyone
[No output]
And this is constrained by the Solaris system as I think. Because of the limited line length. Do you know how to reconfigure Solaris 9 and 10 for a longer line length?

Split/change line in Purchase Order after partial goods receipt

Hi
I have a PO with multiple lines/items. For one line there has been a partial goods receipt and for the open qty there will be a delay. Do I have any chance to either:
- Change the delivery date for this row to match the ETD of the open qty
- Change the initial qty of the line to the one received (that the line closes) and open a new line with the correct date for the open qty
I just cant change anything in a line for which a partial goods receipt has been posted.

Changing the length of a key field in a table

Hi,
I want to increase the length of the field from 2 to 4 in a standard SAP table and deliver it to the customers. This field is a key field in table. This field from this table is also used in view and view clusters.
What is the implication of changing the length to the customers. The customers would have already data in this field and they should not loose any data. Will the existing data for customers remain at length 2 or do they have to do some conversion?

The database table can be adjusted to the changed definition in the ABAP Dictionary in three different
ways:
By deleting the database table and creating it again. The table on the database is deleted, the inactive
table is activated in the ABAP Dictionary, and the table is created again on the database. Data
existing in the table is lost.
By changing the database catalog (ALTER TABLE). The definition of the table on the database is
simply changed. Existing data is retained. However, indexes on the table might have to be built again.
By converting the table. This is the most time-consuming way to adjust a structure.
If the table does not contain any data, it is deleted in the database and created again with its new
structure. If data exists in the table, there is an attempt to adjust the structure with ALTER TABLE. If the
database system used is not able to do so, the structure is adjusted by converting the table.

The following example shows the steps necessary during conversion.
Starting situation: Table TAB was changed in the ABAP Dictionary. The length of field 3 was reduced
from 60 to 30 places.
The ABAP Dictionary therefore has an active (field 3 has a length of 60 places) and an inactive (field 3
still has 30 places) version of the table.
The active version of the table was created in the database, which means that field 3 currently has 60
places in the database. A secondary index with the ID A11, which was also created in the database, is
defined for the table in the ABAP Dictionary.
The table already contains data.
Step 1: The table is locked against further structure changes. If the conversion terminates due to an
error, the table remains locked. This lock mechanism prevents further structure changes from being
made before the conversion has been completed correctly. Data could be lost in such a case.
Step 2: The table in the database is renamed. All the indexes on the table are deleted. The name of the
new (temporary) table is defined by the prefix QCM and the table name. The name of the temporary
Step 3: The inactive version of the table is activated in the ABAP Dictionary. The table is created on the
database with its new structure and with the primary index. The structure of the database table is the
same as the structure in the ABAP Dictinary after this step. The database table, however, does not
contain any data.
The system also tries to set a database lock for the table being converted. If the lock is set, application
programs cannot write to the table during the conversion.
The conversion is continued, however, even if the database lock cannot be set. In such a case
application programs can write to the table. Since in such a case not all of the data might have been
loaded back into the table, the table data might be inconsistent.
You should therefore always make sure that no applications access the table being converted
during the conversion process.
Step 4: The data is loaded back from the temporary table (QCM table) to the new table (with MOVECORRESPONDING).
The data exists in the database table and in the temporary table after this step.
When you reduce the size of fields, for example, the extra places are truncated when you reload the
data.
Since the data exists in both the original table and temporary table during the conversion, the storage
requirements increase during the process. You should therefore verify that sufficient space is available in
the corresponding tablespace before converting large tables.
There is a database commit after 16 MB when you copy the data from the QCM table to the original
table. A conversion process therefore needs 16 MB resources in the rollback segment. The existing
database lock is released with the Commit and then requested again before the next data area to be
converted is edited.
When you reduce the size of keys, only one record can be reloaded if there are several records whose
key cannot be distinguished. It is not possible to say which record this will be. In such a case you should
clean up the data of the table before converting.
Step 5: The secondary indexes defined in the ABAP Dictionary for the table are created again.
Step 6: The temporary table (QCM table) is deleted.
Step 7: The lock set at the beginning of the conversion is deleted.
If the conversion terminates, the table remains locked and a restart log is written.
Caution: The data of a table is not consistent during conversion. Programs therefore should not access
the table during conversion. Otherwise a program could for example use incorrect data when reading the
table since not all the records were copied back from the temporary table. Conversions therefore
should not run during production! You must at least deactivate all the applications that use tables to
be converted.
You must clean up terminated conversions. Programs that access the table might otherwise run
incorrectly. In this case you must find out why the conversion terminated (for example overflow of the
corresponding tablespace) and correct it. Then continue the terminated conversion.
Since the data exists in both the original table and temporary table during conversion, the storage
requirements increase during conversion. If the tablespace overflows when you reload the data from the
temporary table, the conversion will terminate. In this case you must extend the tablespace and start the
conversion in the database utility again.
If you shorten the key of a table (for example when you remove or shorten the field length of key fields),
you cannot distinguish between the new keys of existing records of the table. When you reload the data
from the temporary table, only one of these records can be loaded back into the table. It is not possible
to say which record this will be. If you want to copy certain records, you have to clean up the table
before the conversion.
During a conversion, the data is copied back to the database table from the temporary table with the
ABAP statement MOVE-CORRESPONDING. Therefore only those type changes that can be executed
with MOVE-CORRESPONDING are allowed. All other type changes cause the conversion to be
terminated when the data is loaded back into the original table. In this case you have to recreate the old
state prior to conversion. Using database tools, you have to delete the table, rename the QCM table to
its old name, reconstruct the runtime object (in the database utility), set the table structure in the
Dictionary back to its old state and then activate the table.
If a conversion terminates, the lock entry for the table set in the first step is retained. The table can no
longer be edited with the maintenance tools of the ABAP Dictionary (Transaction SE11).
A terminated conversion can be analyzed with the database utility (Transaction SE14) and then
resumed. The database utility provides an analysis tool with which you can find the cause of the error
and the current state of all the tables involved in the conversion.
You can usually find the precise reason for termination in the object log. If the object log does not
provide any information about the cause of the error, you have to analyze the syslog or the short dumps.
If there is a terminated conversion, two options are displayed as pushbuttons in the database utility:
After correcting the error, you can resume the conversion where it terminated with the Continue
adjustment option.
There is also the Unlock table option. This option only deletes the existing lock entry for the table .
You should never choose Unlock table for a terminated conversion if the data only exists in the
temporary table, i.e. if the conversion terminated in steps 3 or 4. table for table TAB is therefore QCMTAB.

Custom fields and line length in Address Book

Hi everyone. Does anyone know how to alter the permitted line length of a label in Address Book? If I create a custom label the label will be truncated if it is too long. This does not seem necessary as there can be loads of blank space to the right of the card window. In other words the label will not resize dynamically to accommodate a long custom label. I have a feeling that you may be able to edit a .plist file in the Package to adjust the default number of characters the label can have, but I'm a bit nervous about poking about when I'm not too knowledgeable. Any ideas?

Of course not. You've chosen a specific label style/size, so if it were to resize dynamically, that would cause text to print where there is no label stock.
You cannot edit any file to change the number of characters per label; at best, you could creae your own label size and define the margins, but that's it.

What parameters have you set for the text field? multilane?

What size is your text field?
Just some basic questions to think about. I actually link to
an external text file if I have too much text to deal with. However
I usually write text box's in the code.
You already have the text field, so you shouldn't need the
create command, which I probably got wrong anyway.

you at least need mutiline to be on. To get html to work, you need
html to be on, and you need to use the htmltxt to write it to the

I did that - and found several items for wrap.
All except the one noted - mailnews.wraplength - have a status of default, type boolean and value false.

Change of length in R3, effects in BW

Hi,
R/3 side length of the info object was changed, due to which Process chains were failed, we have replicated the data sources and activated transfer rules, it worked fine.
My issue was length of the field zwbs_job was changed from 8 to 24 in R/3, we changed the length of the Info object from 8 to 24 and activated, but the data which has length more than 8 is not coming to Bw,.
In transfer rules info object zwbs_job was mapped to 0hier_9, length of 0hier_9 is 10 only, when am trying to change the length of 0her_9 from 10 to 24 its not allowing.its asking to delete the data, but i cant delete 5 years of data.
0hier_9 is attribute of zwbs_job, kindly help me in solving the issue with out deleting the data.

If reporting is not an issue here i mean if this info-object is not used in reports then you can create a new info-object of length and 24. Then do re-modling of the cube and map ECC field of length 24 to then new -info-object.
In this case you dont have to delete any data from cube and report will be unaffected.

Arrowhead adds to line length?

I am trying to dimension some signage for a set of architectural plans. Previously I had always used 'Filter > Stylize > Add Arrowheads...' to do this. Recently I've found that arrowheads are also available under 'Effect > Stylize > Add Arrowheads...'. I really enjoy all the live effects and the ability to edit them after the fact as well as preview when first creating them. I particularly enjoy the live arrows from the standpoint that when I move the line endpoint, the arrowhead automatically reorients to the correct angle.
That's all good, but on to the problem. Both types of arrowheads do NOT fall within the original line endpoints. It boggles my mind why someone would design arrowheads to behave this way? It obviously makes dimensioning very difficult and time consuming. Instead of snapping to the endpoints of some artwork or using the transform palette to numerically enter a distance, compensations have to constantly be made for the length of the arrow.
I've always had to do this with the 'filter arrows'. It was a pain, but since the arrow was actually artwork, I could get info about it concerning how much length it added. The 'live arrows' do not even provide this level of workaround because being 'live', they are not selectable as artwork without expanding their appearance, which removes their 'live' characteristics.
Question? My question is this - does anyone know of a method whereby the arrowhead (live or filter) does NOT add to the overall line length? Has anyone come across another, more efficient workaround to what I've been trying.
I know of one fairly elegant solution in plugin form - HotDoor CadTools. I would love to be able to use that for a number of reasons, but have not been able to get management approval for purchase. So in the meantime, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have long argued that anything you define as a Symbol (in the Symbols Palette) should be made available for application as Arrowheads. Meanwhile, try this to get a basic principle down:
1. Rectangle Tool: ClickShiftDrag to draw a small square.
2. DoubleClick the rotate tool to rotate the square 45 degrees.
3. Press the minus key to get the Remove Point Tool. Click the leftmost point to delete it. You now have a right-pointing triangle. Give it a fill of none, solid stroke.
4. Drag the triangle and drop it into the Brushes Palette. In the resulting dialog, choose Pattern Brush.
5. Drag the new Pattern Brush from the Brushes Palette onto the page.
6. Note that the bounding box of the triangle is rectangular. This is a Group which contains two objects: The triangle you drew, and an unfilled, unstroked rectangle, which is under the triangle in the stacking order. This invisible rectangle is what determines the "tile size" of the artwork when it is used in the Brush.
7. With the DirectSelect Pointer, press Alt and drag across where you know there is an edge of the invisible rectangle, without dragging across the triangle. This "directSelects" the whole rectangular path.
8. Transform Palette: Click one of the right points of the 9-point proxy icon. Then set the Width to some small value, like 1 pt. (but not to zero).
9. Deselect. Then normal-select the whole group. Press Alt. Drag and drop the group onto the End Tile of your Pattern Brush.
10. The Group is still on the page. DoubleClick the Rotate tool and rotate it 180 degrees. AltDrag and drop this onto the Start Tile of your Pattern Brush.
11. Rectangle Tool: Draw a small square. Fill of none. Stroke of none. AltDrag and drop this onto the Side Tile of your Pattern Brush (the tile where the very first triangle originally appeared when you first defined the Brush. This replaces the Side Tile of the Brush with, effectively, nothing.
Now try it out:
12. Line Tool: Draw a line. Apply the Brush. Note that the "arrowheads" are positioned very near the ends of the path, instead of protruding out beyond them as do AI's normal Arrowheads.
13. DirectSelect one endpoint of the path. Drag it nearer and nearer the other end. Note that even when it gets very near, the triangles retain their shape. Drag even closer until the two triangles actually overlap. Still they retain their proportion (within a very small variance--it's a function of how narrow you made the invisible box. If, however, you had given the width of the invisible box a value of zero, the end tiles would distort when the path is very short.)
14. Now draw another line or curvey path. Apply the Brush. Expand Appearance. Ungroup. Note that the invisible box you used to define the Side Tiles did not result in a bunch of invisible boxes along the length of the path. (This is a good thing.)
15. So now you have custom arrowheads. But the length of the path is invisible. Appearance Palette: Add New Stroke. Make the new stroke whatever color, width you want. Drag the whole path to the Graphic Styles Palette to define a Style which you can apply to other paths with one click.
All this convoluted bother is
almost like a custom arrowheads feature common in som many other drawing programs. But it is not perfect. If the path is tightly curved at either of its endpoints, the End and Start Tiles artwork will still deform in an attempt to bend around the curve. In most cases, you can circumvent this by placing a short straight segment beyond the curvepoint.
Again: Illustrator need these improvements:
The existing Arrowheads Effect dialog needs to be changed to simply include popup menus showing the currently defined Symbols, and a little preview frame that lets you position the Symbol in relation to the endpoint of the path.
The Brush Options dialog for Pattern Brushes needs to be given a checkbox which disallows distortion of end tiles.

hey-- so iMessage on ONE computer has my wifes phone number in under iMessage and its greyed out and i cant change it to my number. any ideas? ive done what people have suggested on these forums, e.g., check your apple id make sure your number is associated with it etc. how do i change the iMessage number from my wifes to my actual number? thanks! This can depend on the the Apple ID that is used.
I was under the impression that the invididual parts of an iCloud ID could be "registered" separately for iMessages but this may not be correct.
I have an Apple ID that is based on a email from a source external to Apple. (an old Dial-up account email)
I registered this for iCloud and at the time got an @me.com name as well.
I also have two iPhones so I decided to use the @me.com name on one iPhone and the older Dial-up on the other.
This seemed to work up to the OS X10.8.2 and iOS 6 updates.
AT this points I did the OS X one first then the iPhones
I got alerts in Messages on the Mac to add the Dial-up ID iPhone's number to Messages which I accepted.
The Messages Menu > Accounts > iMessages showed the iPhone Number as an alternative Receive ID and offered itself in the Drop as the Send from ID.
I then set up the second iPhone and got an alert in Messages to add the Apple ID and the iPhone number to Messages.
I said no to this.
At iOS 6 this did not get added to the Messages > Preferences > Accounts > iMessage panel.
However at iOS 6.0.2 the iPhones are showing their own Numbers as Greyed out and even though I refused again the @me.com ID and second iPhone's Number they have been added to the Message Menu > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages pane although they are not ticked.
The only link these two Apple ID Names have is that they are both associated with the iCloud Account.
(I Can log in to the same iTunes account with either name, and post here, and access iCloud in a web browser - the password is the same).
I have successfully managed to get one iPhone to have it's greyed out Number ticked so it can accept iMessages sent to the Number.
This involved removing the Apple ID on that iPhone, Closing iMessages, restarting iMessages and then re-adding the Apple ID
I did get an alert to say the ID would not work anywhere in iMessages when removing it.
It was 24 hours before I got an alert in Messages again to add the iPhone Number and Apple ID (I said no and they are not active but do show in the iMessage account on the Mac)
I am a little confused by this bit:-

I can see the iPhone Numbers in Messages Menu > Preferences > Accounts >iMessages Account pane but they are not greyed out even when not active
They are only greyed out on the iPhone's themselves.
I would also make sure the Apple IDs used on each computer and it's related iPhone are separate from each other.

Please Help! Line Length Outside of Window

I'm not stating this properly. But suddenly, my Safari windows have content which is not all contained therein. I can only read part of it. Same problem with my e-mail.
Unable to shorten length of lines in e-mail, and unable to adjust window. Have gone to Preferences/Appearance, etc.
Please tell me how to explain this problem, if I am not being clear.

I would suggest you revisit the Universal Access to double check that you did what I suggested.
Also make sure that "Use Grayscale" is not checked in Universal Access.
Your line length problem might be caused by your changing the resolution of your monitor. What kind of monitor are you using and do you know what its advertised resolution is? Something like 1280x1024 pixels, for example.
I notice in an earlier post in another forum that you reported the following, which I will quote for the benefit of those joining this thead later:
"I'm using a MacMini OS 10.2.9. Everything was great, then on start-up all was different. My Desktop picture had disappeared, everything was in purple etc. My e-mails have long line length and I am unable to shorten. Have looked at preferences etc. and nothing helps. (I put back the desktop picture, but everything else is beyond me.)

with the help of T180-TRTYP field you know if that doc has been changed or created.
If it is not equal to H it is changed. H means created.
pass the TCODE of Sched Agreement and check this field.
You can use the CDHDR and CDPOS table s to get the changed values of new item.
