Cant seem to manipulate System properties during runtime...

calling System.setProperty(...,...) has no effect whatsoever. is there a way around this?

ultimately, i'm trying to create a plugable component for my app. the said component is supposed to be able to read resources from its containing jar file. so i'm looking for a way to locate this file.
what i did was this: i created a custom class loader that loads classes from any valid location given it (on the local disk), my component calls
Class.forName("com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver"); and my class loader is called to do the job (though it delegates to the parent class loader).
Now not until i place the actual mssqlserver.jar, msbase.jar and msutils.jar files in a subdirectory of my app does it load correctly- apparently, one of the "ms" internal classes tries to load a resource from the msutils.jar cus i get this error:
Exception in thread "main" java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error opening/loading com.microsoft.util.transliteration.
properties.and i checked the msutils.jar and found a com.microsoft.util.transliteration.properties file in there.
My problem with this is that i dont want to have to keep dropping library files or files my apps depend on in subfolders. i want to be able to install these libraries or whatever once, then load them from this location, while they can still function completely.
thats my problem.
thanks in advance!

  • Setting the Top and Left properties during runtime, depending on...

    hi guys,
it's me again with the same question, but same scenario...
but probably with a bit clearer detail now...
actually, what i wanna do is that although i have set the top and left properties at design time, as soon as the page opens i wanna be able to do the following:
    if ( userlevel == 1 ) {
    textfield1.setStyle("top: 100...");
    } else if ( userlevel == 2 ) {
    textfield1.setStyle("top: 500...");
    thanks for your time =)

The style properties CAN be set in the prerender call. Unfortunately, the requirement is that the component (text field in your case) has to have an unset property in the Design->properties window. (Or in the actual jsp code, which should be identical).
My main issue with this is SJC2's handling of this in the visual window. If i want to have a lot of components that are designed before run-time but placed during run-time, they all are a mess on the screen. I wish there was another property (in the properties window) that would be a checkbox, like "Use static layout". I, probably like others, am using a layout panel (grid) that has several other components in there. I want to be able to move this set of components at run-time, but to do so, I need to unset the layout panel's style. This causes my inside components to shift to the top left of my page, making a mess in the design window.
If any SJC developers are out there, please help! It would be great to somehow mitigate the static/dynamic properties/display issue. (Like, i want to have buttons with dynamic names (for localization), but basically, i have to have a bunch of blank buttons/text on the screen for all my pages because of the static requirement. At least, MyEclipse and others will put the id value if the text/label value is blank.

  • Adjusting system time during runtime causes problems?

Running a TDS based application on Win2008R2. 5.1.19 (yes we are updating to 5.2.36 later this week)
The system clock was adjusted back by 5 hours while running. No issue at time, but after an app restart we found we had a corrupted trans log with LSNs lower than those in database files. Had to recover by removing the tran log and clearing LSNs in a database file using db_load -r lsn
Is there something in the trans log contents or writing process that would be affected by a change in system clock backwards?

    Hello,
I don't think a clock change could impact the transaction log
files. However it is definitely the case that an anti-virus
software scans should be avoided on Berkeley DB data files
(database, transaction log, region). An anti-virus scan could
be problematic if a page is scanned at the same time the library
code is trying to lock a database for an update. Is there any
chance that an anti-virus scan or some other application happened
at the same time which might have been touching a database page?
    Thanks,

  • Subclass instance not created during runtime

    Hi Experts,
For an existing standard class a subclass was created and during runtime the me object reference points to the subclass name there by allowing the subclass additional/custom methods to be triggered.
We have done service pack upgrade in the system and during runtime I find the subclass does not exist in the me object reference due to which the custom code in the subclass is not being called.
How do I fix the above issue so that and subclass instance is created by the superclass during runtime?

    Hello Srinivas,
I had put a breakpoint to debug in the subclass which was being invoked.
In the new system where the service pack has been applied I have put breakpoint in the same method but the subclass method is not being called.
The superclass method is being called. I'm sure after facing this problem(and solving it, of course) you'll have a better understanding of the 'polymorphic' behaviour of objects
if the subclass inherits superclass the instance will be created automatically?
    NO!!!
You must understand none of us has a crystal ball where we can gaze & find out the solution. If you want valuable responses please provide as much info as possible.

  • How to determine the target system during runtime of a Generic DS?

    Hi Experts, good afternoon.
I am coding a Generic Extractor using Function Module. I have to select the field TIMESTAMP on table ROOSPRMSC. To do so, I need the value of RLOGSYS that is the BW system that is calling the Extractor.
Do anybody knows how to determine via ABAP the RLOGSYS (Remote Logical System) during the runtime of the Generic DataSource Function Module?
The table ROOSPRMSC keep the TIMESTAMPs values of the last delta upload for each DataSource and for each BW target system. As I have 2 BW's loading data from the same SAP ECC system, I need to know, during runtime of my Generic DataSource, the actual system that is requesting the delta. That's the reason why I need to know the BW's logical system name that is "runnig" the delta InfoPackage.
    Plese, help!!!
    Thanks in advance!
    Leandro Vani

    Leandro,
The calling program of your FM should have a local variable I_RLOGSYS which is populated with the BW server ID.
If you don't know how to access a variable in a program that is in call stack using field symbols, search SDN.
I haven't tested this, so you may have to explore a little.
    Good luck.

  • I cant seem to download the latest version of itunes to my laptop computer. I keep getting an error during the installation of assembley "Microsoft VC80.CRT.type="win 32".version="8.0.507276195"Please refer to Help and Support for more information. HRES7

I cant seem to download the latset version of itunes onto my laptop computer. I keep getting this error HRESULT: 0x8007054F. Dont know what that means. Please HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi tKalra - I got the same error and finally managed to install itunes successfully. Below is what happened with me.
I have Windows7 64 bit. I downloaded itunes 10.6.3 for windows64bit and started the installation wizard by opening the downloaded file. At one stage I got the same error you have mentioned above. I started googling to find a solution and thats how I found your post. Anyway I went through lot of other posts that suggested lot of different things but I just wanted to try my own thing first.
So what I did is to go through with the wizard by clicking ok on the error. I then got an error about apple mobile device service not running. I ignored and went ahead with the installation. Installation finished but the itunes wont start giving the service not running error. I tried to manually start the service but it gave a privilege error.
I then went to control panel and uninstalled itunes, apple mobile device thing and bonjour..basically what ever was from apple. Then I also went to start -> run -> regedit and checked for any registry keys for apple under local user and local computer. Deleted if found. Restarted and then just right clicked on the itunes setup file that was downloaded and ran it as administrator. That did it for me. So I am guessing it was privilege thing but not sure. Hope this helps.

  • No mapping during runtime!!

    Hi all,
I got stucked with one problem in  file-xi-idoc  scenario using sap xi 2.0.
I am using sender file adapter which is picking up the file from ftp server. The file contains three fields and I am placing them in a text file as
    Sriram,mumbai,in.
The file adapter is picking the file successfully and converting them into xml sending to integration engine. But during runtime these fields are not mapped to target idoc structure (DEBMAS 03) and there are no errors showing in SXMB_MONI. The idoc is going to receiving sap system with error status 51. This is the payload of xml messages observed in SXMB_MONI.

  • System.properties (what is the scope in memory)

Does each JVM have it's own System properties? Hence calls from one JVM System.getProperty() or System.setProperty() should be within each individual JVM? Also I need to know this so that I can gurantee that using the System properties for private information won't be accessed by anyone else on the system... Any input?

System properties are unique for each VM, they are therefore visible to all code running in the VM.
This seems like a good thing to use for storing things like passwords because of the global visibility however using the System properties for storing such things has to be considered as being insecure.
System properties should be regarded as a place to read data from that is relevant for either the Java runtime environment or for setting component specific properties, XML Parsers make use of this for example. Using System properties as an in memory database is neither secure nor sensible. Careless selection of keys for the properties you wish to store can have unexpected results if you accidentally overwrite a property that is used for other purposes.
I would use a separate Properties instance that has nothing to do with the System properties and I would also recommend the encryption of sensitive data like passwords.

  • Passing Java system property at runtime

How to set system property at runtime?
Imaging the situation - application is already run. One of the threads polls system properties periodically. In debug purposes I need to set system during program is working. How can I do that?

    Not possible.
Far as I know not possible for any app (not just java) and true for most popular desktop OSes as well.
The environment is copied into the application (all applications) when it starts. So external changes will not impact it.

  • Is contextInitialized() blocked from setting System properties?

A certain 3rd party app we're using within a web app requires a specific System
property be set. Since it's a local path, we'd like to shy away from hardcoding
a -D into the startup script, and instead do it via a ServletContextListener and
set the property within contextInitialized(). In WL7.0sp2, it seems to hit the
line in our listener where it tries to set a System property, and nothing happens.
It doesn't seem to throw an exception, write anything to the console, nothing.
Is there a security setting that blocks contextInitialized() methods from setting
System properties? Is it a WL thing, or maybe a servlet spec thing? It works
if we use a dummy servlet set to pre-load, where we set the System property in
the servlet's init() method, but that's a little tackier than doing it in one
    single context init listener.

Turns out the context-param that I was trying to use as the value of the System
property was null. When it sets a non-null value, it works. But apparently when
the value of the System property is null, you get the weird behaviour described
below: it's as if the tread just stops. I tried setting a breakpoint and stepping
through, but it immediately went into weblogic security and threading classes
and never returned. So now I'll have a new question about when context-params
load during deployment, but I'll post that separately.

  • Where do I read in the documentation the list of the system properties?

Yep. Sounds stupid. But it's true. I read in all these forums where and how to set the truststore and so on but it would be beautiful to understand it my own.
    1. First I read setting the -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore in the VM arguments.
    2. Then I find out the the -D is just for setting something like a static property.
    3. Next I want to read about the system properties. Who, what and where the Java tries to get this system property. I do not find it.
What I find is great help in these forums and solving this kind of problems seems easy... I googled and the only place I found info about this is in a boulder.ibm.com site:
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/sysprop2.htm
    http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/iseries/v5r4/index.jsp?topic=/rzaha/rzahajssesysprops.htm
I also found some info on a sun tutorial but not an official documentation. Do you know where to find it? It seems that my learning is always about finding the right place to find information and not guessing and trying.
    Thanks!!

Thanks for your soon reply. Yeah, I found that but I really was expecting a more serious documentation.
I have to admit that it is documented. Yes. But I didn't expect to find that in middle of a guide. But more in a reference or in a specification document. It's inside the "Customization" and in a table, yes... But it's a guide!!
I like Java but something to worry about is the "too many - too less" documentation. Documentation is not clear enough and all the hundreds of options you have can make the programming with Java no good. It would sound like a good thing have a lot of choices and hundreds of places to look info for but I am a bit disappointed with that. It's not clear enough to find the right info.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!! I will have to live with that.
