  • Sending with different SMTP host....

    A friend of mine subscribes to .Mac, and sends out a newsletter to more than 400 recipients a day (which exceeds the .Mac daily quota).
    I saw in the .Mac forum someone with a similar problem, and a solution someone suggested was to use a different SMTP host (such as the one that comes with their provider).
    The details they gave were kind of vague with the suggestion, and what I want to do is clarify a little....
    She just got a new MBP, so I was going to help set it up and configure it (upgrading from her Cube), and was just wondering if I should just set the default SMTP host as her cable provider's SMTP. Simplicity is key here.
    So, here's the question:
    If I set up her .Mac account so that the default SMTP account is her provider's SMTP setting, will it show as that other account for the "From" and "Reply To" when other people see it? (I don't care when people see long header/raw source-just to the average Joe/Joan).
    I just want to make sure it's seamless.
    Thanks.

    I am having a problem with multiple accounts - we use 4 ISP / SMTP accounts and when we set the outgoing SMTP server in Mail preferences for each account they seem to change without notice. Our web/business mail host mailbox will switch and try sending mail on att.net SMTP and the mail just won't go. At other times this causes the replys to come back to the wrong mail box. I could delete all but one but this causes additional problems with servers not accepting other IP mail. Anyone elso have this problem or an answer? We have a wired LAN thru a managed router but this doesn't seem to be the cause.

  • Cant send on my SMTP server

    I use Pair.com for my email and their SMTP server authenticates you to send when you check your POP3 or IMAP email.  My new Droid 2 cannot authenticate.  The identical settings on my Droid works fine.  (Two phone, two numbers.)
    Is there a difference between the two email clients?  Why are they behaving differently?

    I had the same issue on my Droid X. I could receive but not send email. I wrote to pair.com tech support and got the following response:
    Try the following outgoing mail settings below first:
    Outgoing Mail Server: relay.pair.com
    Outgoing Port Number: 2525 or 465 (SSL on)
    Authentication Type: None
    If you are unable to turn off outgoing authentication on your Droid X mail
    client, try the alternative option below:
    Outgoing Mail Server: masilma.pair.com
    Outgoing Port Number: 465 (SSL on)
    Authentication Type: TLS
    Outgoing Username: (mailbox address)
    Outgoing Password: (mailbox password)
    The second option finally solved the issue for me.

  • URGENT::Status returned by Transport.send() and problem with mail.smtp.host

    Hello,
    I am writing a code to send an email using JavaMail. I have added mail.jar and activation.jar in the classpath. Also I would like to mention that I am using Weblogic6.1 SP4.
    A bunch of questions:
    1. After calling Transport.send(), how do i know if the mail was sent successfully or not ?? Is there anyway I can handle that?
    2. I am using props.put(mail.smtp.host, <some-value>). What should be this <some-value> ?? Where can I get this value from??
    And is this value sufficient for the code to know that which server we are using for it? Do we need to give any URL/Port etc? How does this work?
    3. Is there anything else other than smtp host, username and password to be added to props?? Do we need to create a properties file??
    4. After doing these things, do I need to create a mail session in the Weblogic server also or is it a different method?
    Please help me in resolving these issues.
    Thanks

    Thanks for your kind answers, Dr. Clap..!!
    However, I will again like to ask u this:
    1. As i said that I installed Weblogic 6.1 in my local machine, can I use it as the mail server? As the server is local to my machine, i know that its only me who is the incharge of it. How do I know what smtp host to use.
    2. I am using this code:
    public callService(ServiceRequest request) throws Exception {
         EmailRequest req = (EmailRequest) request;
         Session session = null;
         MimeMessage msg = new MimeMessage(session);
         String accNum = req.getAccountNumber();
         String toAddress = req.getToAddress().trim();
         String fromAddress = generalConfig.FROM_EMAIL_ADDRESS;
         String subject = req.getSubject().trim();
         String message = req.getMessage().trim();
         String [] arrToAddress = null;
         String fileName = "./"+accNum+".htm";
         if (toAddress != null) {
    arrToAddress = convertToArray(toAddress);
         Properties props = System.getProperties();
         props.put("mail.smtp.host", "MYSERVER"); //STILL NEED TO FIGURE OUT WHAT VALUE TO PUT HERE
    session = Session.getDefaultInstance(props);
         setRecipientsTo(msg,arrToAddress);
         msg.setFrom(new InternetAddress(fromAddress));
         msg.setSubject(subject);
         msg.setText(message);
    MimeMultipart mp = new MimeMultipart();
    MimeBodyPart text = new MimeBodyPart();
         text.setDisposition(Part.INLINE);
         text.setContent(message, "text/html");
         mp.addBodyPart(text);
         MimeBodyPart file_part = new MimeBodyPart();
         File file = new File(fileName);
         FileDataSource fds = new FileDataSource(file);
         DataHandler dh = new DataHandler(fds);
         file_part.setFileName(file.getName());
         file_part.setDisposition(Part.ATTACHMENT);
         file_part.setDescription("Attached file: " + file.getName());
         file_part.setDataHandler(dh);
         mp.addBodyPart(file_part);
         msg.setContent(mp);
    Transport.send(msg); //send message
    In this code, like I am using Properties class, will this code work fine(as it is) even if I dont make any Properties text file?? or is it mandatory for me to make the properties text file and to add some values to it?
    I am sorry, I may sound a bit dumb, but I just need to learn it somehow.
    Thanks.
    P.S: convertToArray() and setRecipientsTo() are my own defined private methods.

  • How to retry SMTP send with a different host?

    I'd like to implement SMTP retry. When an error occurs while connecting to the initial SMTP host, I'd like to swap a new hostname into the SMTP session properties. The problem is that I have no way to get at the SMTP session properties on the MimeMessage. As a workaround, I tried doing this:
    Properties transportProps = new Properties();
    transportProps.setProperty("mail.smtp.host", "smtp2.mydomain.com");
    Session smtpSession = Session.getInstance(transportProps);
    smtpSession.setDebug(true);
    Transport transport = smtpSession.getTransport("smtp");
    transport.connect();
    transport.sendMessage(msg, msg.getAllRecipients());
    which also didn't work, because all the other SMTP properties were defaulted. I thought SMTPTransport might get the remaining properties from the MimeMessage. Any suggestions?

    So you have the MimeMessage that you want to resend, but you've lost track of the
    Session that you used when you created the message? Well, the obvious solution
    is to keep track of the Session. Or at least the Transport. Then all you need to do
    is call the connect method with a different host.

  • MessagingException "Unknown SMTP host"

    Hi
    I am using JavaMail to send out emails from an ecommerce application. We are now deploying the application and are getting the following message....
    nested exception is:
    class javax.mail.MessagingException: Unknown SMTP host: smtp.thehost.com ;
    nested exception is:
    java.net.UnknownHostException: smtp.thehost.com
    (note the server name is not actually smtp.thehost.com) - ive used that one here for confidentality.
    If i try to telnet to smtp.thehost.com on port 25 i get the expected 220 and everything seems fine. Its like JavaMail cant see the mailhost when everything else can.
    I am using :
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)
    on Redhat.
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Lawrence

    If i try to telnet to smtp.thehost.com on port 25 i get the expected 220 and everything seems fine. Its like JavaMail cant see the mailhost when everything else can.This suggests that you aren't telling JavaMail the right host name. It looks to me as if it has an unnecessary space at the end, but at any rate check your code.

  • Cant send emails from iphone 4s

    I cant send any emails from my i phone. My AOL or sky account says cant send message as server does not allow relaying of messages.
    any ideas?
    it worked on my i phone 3??

         I found I had the same problem. I could send emails via WiFi but not my network. So what I did was in settings/Mail,contacts,cal/account and then went to outgoing SMTP and under host name I had the option to enter User name and Password which I did from my ISP account and hey presto, I can now send emails from my iPhone 4S. This makes me very happy. Hope it can work for you.

  • SMICM error while sending mail using SMTP server

    Hi All,
    We are not able send mails using SMTP server.
    We have made every settings necessary in SCOT, SO16 , SMTP service is activated, default domain is maintained etc
    Only things which seems to be wrong is in SMICM trace file.
    [Thr 13] *** ERROR => NiBufIConnect: non-buffered connect pending after 5000ms (hdl 29;10.26.24.44:1090) [nibuf.cpp    4608]

    This error is getting repeated in it.
    BUt I am not sure why it it trying to hit 10.26.24.44, as we dont have any server by this ip. The ip is only not resolvable from the server.
    1 more thing, at OS level, following parameter is maintained in profile :
    icm/server_port_1 = PROT=SMTP,PORT=25000,TIMEOUT=180
    But in SCOT, under SMTP node PORT is given as 25.
    Kindly let me know what going wrong here?

    Hi,
    yes smtp is a standard and I think you could use this with almost every smtp server.
    If your smtp server doesn't require authentication you can access it without an authenticator
    I think...
    Best regards,
    Jens

    Your computer can't connect to a computer named "son1175", or if it can then that computer isn't running a server listening at port 25. Talk to your network people if your computer name is the right one and ask them why not. It is nothing to do with programming.
