Caption formatting

The captions in my thumbnail slideshow are adding unwanted white space below them, causing the page height to increase.  Captions are all in the same place throught the site, and are placed below the pictures.  There aren't any extra lines or spaces in the caption text box.  I've reduced the footer to 0 with no content so I don't think this is a footer problem. I can't see a way to fix this.  Anyone have any ideas?

Hi,
#1: Unwanted white space: it is perfectly ok to get rid of bottom padding if that is what you want
#2: Menu spacing variation: the fact that each item in the navigation menu is a separate text frame makes it susceptible to subtly different layouts across pages. The menu could have been created from a single text frame with hyperlinks (and link styles for roll-over effects). If it is too much effort to recreate the menu in this way, you can try another approach: group all the menu text frames together (Select All and Object > Group).
#3: text placement differences between layout/design and Publish: I'd have to look at specific examples (e.g., screenshots) before commenting.
(Also, it helps us if multiple unrelated issues are tracked in separate forum threads).
Thanks,
Abhishek

  • RH 9.01 Table Captions Format Problem

I created WebHelp in RH 8 / TCS 2.5. The table captions are fine, Arial, Blue, Italic
I made a few minor updates to the table contents (not the caption) in FM 10 / TCS 3.0.
I open the project in RH9 / TCS 3.0 and regenerate.
The table caption is Times Roman black.
I cannot modify the table caption format to be anything else besides Times Roman black.
The RH files show the correct format.
    Here's what I tried:
I tried manually inserting a table and formatting the caption.
I tried creating a CHM file instead of a WebHelp file. Same problem.
I tried with two different projects. Same problem.
I did not try creating a new project.
Am I missing something, or is this a bug?
    Thanks for any clues.
I tried attaching screenshots here, but I must have some IE setting disabled because nothing happens when I click the camera.

    Welcome to our community
I'll begin by saying openly that I'm a big ole Frame ignoramous. I'm a RoboHelp guy.
I find that in order to specifically style my table captions I first need to edit the CSS file using Windows notepad. Pop the following code somewhere in the file:
Once you do this your Styles dialog will have a caption entry in the Other category that you may format.
Seems to work on my own setup. Hopefully it will work for you.
    Cheers... Rick

  • LOCKED - Troubles with RH's transform of FM figure titles/tbl captions' formats... Same problem?

    Source agent:  FM 9.0p250, unstructured
    Transformative agent:  RH 8.0.2.208
    OS:  WinXP Pro V. 2002 SP3
    CPU:  Core2 Quad @ 2.4 GHz
    RAM:  3.25 GB
    Free Space:  12.6 GB
    File Sys.:  NTFS
    Swap: D & E (system-managed)
Is anyone else experiencing problems with RH not correctly transforming FM figure and table titles? I can get most of my design to work, but I am having a problem with RH not following-through with some of my table title format and figure title format specifications.
I am having problems with RH not correctly applying, or inconsistently applying, figure title and table caption attributes ("Paragraph" settings) that I specify through Project Settings | Import | Edit | Conversion Settings.
For example (in FM Table Designer), I have a table title paragraph design, "TT.Table Title", in which I specify Title > Above Table, and specify a paragraph design (FM style) of Arial, 10pt, regular, bold, 0" indents, alignment left. It works fine direct to print or PDF; the same is true with figure titles.
In RH (through Project Settings | Import > Edit | Conversion Settings [FrameMaker Settings] > Paragraph), I specify that the FM style is to transform through an RH style that I define (through Edit Style button > Styles > Format > Paragraph). I set the alignment, etc., as is required through RH, but when I look at the Design view and/or generate the output (say...Webhelp), RH has not correctly interpreted one or more of my specification's attributes.
For example, in the case of my table titles, in Design view, RH has centered the title (or in RH terms, the ''Caption") above the table. Or sometimes the bold attribute is missing. In Project Manager, if I right-click and select View, the title/caption sometimes appears as specified; however, if I Generate the WebHelp (or HTML Help, or whatever), the bold formatting isn't there.
I thought that maybe RH defaulted figure and table titles to a Caption, as that is what it calls that part in the Design view. But when I set Caption to my specs, it made no difference.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance!

Please don't post the same question in two categories as apart from being against the forum rules it results in messy answers. Some in one category and some in another.
Here's a link to the other thread for anyone able to help Burtin.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/542860
The FM Integration category is for anything to do with issues that arise with FM to RH. FM has its own category for FM issues and there are various RH categories for content created in RH.
I am going to lock this thread so that answers end up in the right place.

I may be off at a tangent here as this is a wild guess.
HTML recognises Table Heading and Table Text, RH does not recognise the Table Heading selector. Maybe with your knowledge of FM's table caption and that tidbit of information, you can change something in your FM table to avoid the problem, if indeed there is a link.

  • Premiere Pro CC Closed Captions format issues on render

I have added closed captions to my Premiere Pro project — took bloody ages — and all looks and runs great within the project. Simple white captions over the video.
Although, when I render the video out with the closed captions embedded within the video, cirtain captions seem to have slightly "dodgy" formatting when played back in quicktime player.
Some sections of the captions have a black backgroun on and some do not. As I previously mentioned the captions are all fine within the project. It just seems to happen on the render file… Has anyone any ideas why this could be?
Have attached a few screens of the issue I am finding…
    http://d.pr/i/lVI2
    http://d.pr/i/8iin

When you make a change to the size of the QuickTime window, does the problem go away?
If the answer is "no", I'd try a few things:
-- Check to see if the frame rate of the closed captioning matches the frame rate of the source clip -- this is important
-- Export matching the exact framerate of the closed captioning and clip and see how this looks
-- Try exporting out to different frame rates and see if the problem still happens
-- See if this problem in playback happens with other external players
-- Update the QuickTime player and see if it still happens
-- Reimport the exported problem file into PPRO and see if the playback issue happen there
Then let me know what the results are.

  • Premiere will not import any of the recommended Caption formats

I have so far used qt.txt files to add open captions to my video projects.
I would like to work with captions within Premiere Pro and have watched Adobe's video on how to do it.
Recommended formats are .scc but several others are supposedly supported.
I have tried to import .scc files and various flavors of xml files and adobe caption files.
None of them are recognized as valid formats in my application.
Do I need a plugin that is not installed? Or enable something or another? or why would I not be able to import the files?
    Thank you on beforehand.

By the way I am using CS6
That would be the problem. Closed Captioning support was completely overhauled in CC 7.0. Previously, support for captions was very limited. The workflow was simply to select a sequence in the Project panel, go to Sequence>Closed Captioning>Attach. You could then enable display of the captions in the Program Monitor, but you could not edit the caption content or control timing in any way.

  • How do I convert a MS Word doc into Closed Caption scc (or other) format?

I have already constructed a number of videos and we now want to add sub titles. I have the complete transcript on a word document.
I've seen all the videos on how to do it. But how do I get my content into Closed Caption formats so I can add them?
    Any help would be appreciated.

If you mean wanting to work with subtitle "Open Captions" , Premiere pro does not support subtitle Open Captions" right now.
If you are talking about adding "Closed Captions" -- you can add captions from scratch to your project using Premiere Pro. Go File-> New-> Captions and pick CEA-608, CEA-708, or Teletext, and off you go. Go here for more information:
Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Closed Captioning
If you have a lot of captions, I suggest you find a caption authoring solution from a 3rd party -- there are some free/ shareware ones out there. Look around the forums to see what other people are using to author closed captions.
    Good luck!

  • Captions

Is there a file where captions are stored? I would like to be able to either move them via copy/paste or at least print them out.
Reason: I am converting old slide carousels and editing in Elements before putting them in a slide show. While scanning etc I put the captions into the Organizer but there is no easy way to transfer those to Pro Show or any other slide show program. I therefore have to constantly go back and forth between Organizer and Slide Show.

    Hi,
I hope these notes will work for you, I am using ProShow Gold (PSG) version 4.52 and they seem to work there. I think we are talking about the same field but I use short captions.
In PSE, add the text to the Caption field by using your preferred method.I tend to enter it into the Properties - General screen but there are other ways.
Introduce the images to PSG - I tend to use drag and drop from PSE to PSG but you may have your own way.
In PSG, select the slides that you wish to display the caption on and then either click on the Slide Opt button on the toolbar or right click on a slide and select Slide Options.
    Select the Captions tab.
Click on the Insert Macro link under Caption Format
From the dropdown list for Macro Types, select EXIF Metadata Macros
Select the first one (Image title). It is best not to select from the right hand column.
Now click on Add & Close button to add the caption as text
Position the text as required and then click on OK to close the options window.
The captions should now display as text. If, at a later stage, you decide to change the caption in PSE, then re-running PSG should pick up those changes providing you didn'tuse the fixed text from the right column as mentioned above.
I hope that the above does what you want - good luck

  • Turn off Format Painter on Worksheet Activate

    Hello there
I am trying to disable Format Painter on a specific sheet. The sheet is designed to test the user's skill in basic formatting in Excel, and I don't want him to be able to simply copy the formatting from the "example" cells to the "answer"
    cells.
I managed to disable copy and paste, but it seems the Format Painter is still a potential loop-hole in my test.
I've Googled for about half an hour, and the only promising aswer I could find was this code:
    Private Sub Worksheet_Activate()
    Dim ctl As CommandBarControl
    For Each ctl In Application.CommandBars("Standard").Controls
    If ctl.Caption = "&Format Painter" Then
    ctl.Enabled = False
    End If
    Next
    End Sub
(Similar code is supposed to activate the Format Painter again on sheet Deactivation.)
I've tested the code and the ctl.Enabled = False line does trigger when it is supposed to, but somehow the Format Painter remains completely useable. Can someone please help?
    Best regards,

You can choose to lock the sheet or particular cells. You can download this
EXCEL API,and after add reference to project, using the following code.
    Lock cell,
    Dim workbook As New Spire.Xls.Workbook()
    workbook.CreateEmptySheets(1)
    Dim sheet As Spire.Xls.Worksheet = workbook.Worksheets(0)
    sheet.Range("A1").Text = "Locked"
    sheet.Range("B1").Text = "Unlocked"
    sheet.Range("A1").Style.Locked = true
    sheet.Range("B1").Style.Locked = false
    sheet.Protect("123", SheetProtectionType.All)
    workbook.SaveToFile("Sample_Lock.xlsx", ExcelVersion.Version2013)

  • Nonlinear least square fit problem

    Hello,
I have been trying to fit the data given in the attached file. When you click command button1, the routine goes thru the NonLinearFitModelProcedure, calculates some points and gives an error message like "The return parameter in NonLinearFitCallback must be assigned a scalr value". I do not understand this error message. Any ideas? Thank you.

    Hello Sam,
Thank you for the reply. The error number was something like 10024(?) I found out that my problem was to do with the function definition. The function limits were not set right. When I corrected it worked. But you are right that somehow I do not define the type correctly. See the routine below:
The xData and yData are defined as variant, likewise the yFit variable. The first two are populated in a for loop, therefore they are redimensioned prior to this. On the other hand the yFit variable is filled as an array by the NonLinearFit routine. This typing works for the fit routine, but it doesn't work for the plot routine where two differently typed variables, yData and yFit are used as arguments of the Array function. In order to make this to work I used CWDSP function for the XData, yData arrays which is an overkill. What is the reasonable solution for type casting these variables? Thank you.

  • Post-enforcement continue on failure clears

    Hi.
I seem to be posting quite a lot in here...
Anyway, I have created a patch policy. In the policy I have a post-enforcement action. It's a bundle. When I tick the "Continue on Failure" tickbox and then publish the policy, the tickbox clears.
    Is this correct behaviour?
    Thanks

Thanks for the swift reply and the great ideas! In the interests of self-preservation, I went the "two click boxes" route but duplicated the initial slide to get the effect I needed:
    Slide 1:
Small click box - on success: go to Slide 3. Infinite attempts. No failure caption.
Large click box - on success: go to Slide 2. Success caption, formatted to look exactly like a failure caption (e.g., "Try again!")
    Slide 2
A duplicate of Slide 1, with some alterations.
Small click box - on success: go to Slide 3. Failure caption ("Try again!") at exactly the same spot & size, with same wording, as the success caption on Slide 1.
    Deleted the large click box.
Animation_1 - moving green arrow pointing at the small click box.
    Slide 3:
    The "result" slide.
The advantages are that it's relatively fast to do it, since I'm duplicating the existing slide and then making some pretty quick changes to the duplicate. The disadvantages are that this is really only useful for my standard point-n-click slides, not my rollover slides or other types of interactions. Also, it's making the files bigger.
I have been testing the trial version of Infosemantics' Event Handler widget and it has some fascinating possibilities, especially using several of them on the same slide. If I can put together something more elegant, I'll post it!

    Hello,
VB 6 is no longer supported by Microsoft. I’d suggest asking in one of the following third-party forums which support Visual Basic 6.

  • Is it possible to change the formatting of all text captions in a project?

    Hi there.
I'm wanting to change the following formatting options on all text captions in my projects:
    Caption type
    Font
    Font size
    Font colour
    Spacing
Is there any way of changing these for all text captions, or do I have to change them individually? I've tried changing the options in the object style manager, but I think that only works for when you're creating a new text caption, not for existing ones.
    I'm using Captivate 7.
    Thanks.

It depends: are you using the default style for Text Captions? In that case you can change the default style in the Object Style Manager and have it applied to all Captions.
Or you can change one text caption, and in its Properties panel choose the option 'Save Changes to existing style' from the menu top right (see screenshot). Both methods will work if you didn't override the default Caption Style for those captions. Beware: Quizzing objects can use another style.

  • How do you export a working closed caption for Premiere Pro CC 2014 in .mpg format?

We do weekly 1/2 hour programs that require closed captioning for air. I need to know how to export a self contained .mpg format without using MacCaption. If not possible, is there another, less expensive, 3rd party program that I can use? Or better yet, is Adobe going to create one for us?

Look for the wrench icon in the monitors, above the playback area, to the right. Tooltip for it is "Settings..." -- the menu item is in the flag menu there: Closed Captioning Display...
