Captured 1080i 50 material stutters

Hi,
If anyone can answer this it would be greatly appreciated. My captured material plays back with a slight stutter and I can't figure out why.
I have a tape that was shot on the Sony Z1U camera at 1080i 50.(HDV material on a dvcam tape). I am capturing the footage to the FCP via firewire and a Sony HVR-M15U deck.
My audio/video settings are as follows:
Sequence preset hdv-1080i50
Capture preset hdv
Device control preset Sony HDV 1080i50 Firewire
Video Playback-None
Audio Playback-Default
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Dave

I haven't dealt with PAL footage much, so I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but to me it still seems like a field issue (possibly interpolation instead of a dominance issue). Maybe switch things between Upper, Lower and None just to check. Are you just noticing this when viewing the clips in the sequence or also when the clips are loaded in the viewer? If also in the viewer, be sure to try changing the field order o the clip itself, too.

  • Capturing 1080i 59.94 with 1200A deck - dropped frames on capture

    Hmmm...
I'm trying to capture some HD footage, and FCP keeps aborting the capture with a dropped-frames error immediately at the beginning of each clip it attempts to capture.
I've been capturing HD with my current setup for about 8 months without running into this problem, but I'm throwing new variables into the mix this time so I'm thinking it might just be something I'm missing.
I have 24p footage shot on a Fujifilm DVCPRO HD tape with the Panasonic Varicam at 720p. I need to capture it as 1080i at 59.94 due to broadcaster delivery specifications. So I changed the appropriate menu settings in my Panasonic 1200A deck ("Sys Format" from 720p to 1080i and also the menu setting #632 to 720p> HD_OUT> 1080i) in order to capture the 720p stuff as 1080i.
Capture Preset: AJA Kona 2: 1080i 59.94 DVCPro HD
Device Control: AJA Kona 2 59.94 Panasonic VTR
So I'm attempting to capture to two 500GB G-RAID drives (which are striped together as a RAID) via SDI through my Kona 2 card. As I mentioned, I capture material with a similar configuration daily with no trouble.
I did some research and came across a site that had a list of all the deck settings for the 1200A that need to be set to capture 1080i 59.94, and made sure the settings on my 1200A matched.
After I received the dropped frames error a couple of times and checked that my set-up is correct (to the best of my knowledge) I tried capturing at 720p 59.94, and it worked flawlessly. I then tried capturing at 1080i 29.97 and that also worked fine. So it seems there's a hiccup with the combination of 1080i and 59.94, which I can't figure out.
I also tried duplicating the capture preset and changing the Advanced Compressor settings to DVCPROHD 1080i60 from Uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 to see if that would help, but no dice.
I'm going to post this on the Cow Varicam forum as well, since 8-months is still pretty new to this menu-heavy deck and perhaps that's where my trouble lies.
Can anyone shed some light? I hope I didn't leave out too many specifics.
    Thanks a lot,
    Joni

I don't think your drives, even though they are raided together, are fast enough for 1080i60.
Plus, you will be wasting a lot of space capturing this way. You shot 720p so capture and edit 720p. When your cut is locked, THEN uprez to 1080i60 (dropping it into a 1080i timeline and rendering) and output.
But you will still need faster drives for the output.
That is what I am doing. We shot 720p24, but need to deliver 1080p24 10-bit uncompressed HD. The software uprez looks great.

  • Capture Characteristics with Material and Sales (Really Very Urgent)

    Dear All ,
I have to capture the charecteristics alongwith the material, these characteristics also flow in the sales order, basically a class has been defined which holds a number of characteristics and this class is assigned to the material and I guess this is done using the variant configurator,
    1) How will be able to capture the same and display
    those ?
    2) Does this characteristics flow in the standard
extractors of the material and sales order or any
other cube which can multicubed with those ?
Plz do suggest me the an viable option.
    Thanks & Warm Regards,

    Hi Seig,
You can generate this datasources using TCODE CTBW, You can refer to this note (306046), which xplains the same, I have done that to an extent but data is not flowing in my main DS and I need to understand the mapping of the same in InfoSource structure.
    Thanks & Warm Regards,

    Hi Anil,
Thanks for your reply, I have checked up the material attributes it does not flow there and I was referrring to one note where you can enhance your datasource using CTBW to capture this characteritsics so I did enhance 0MATERIAL_ATTR, the other attributes are listed as an TEXT DataSource and If I check them using RSA3 data gets populated accordingly but the enhanced datasource 0MATERIAL_ATTR which become 1CL_MAT001 does not return any records shows zero records, I am looking for charcterictics which have been mapped using an Variant Configurator and as far as the note suggests it has to be done thru CTBW to capture this, I have done that but success still eludes me,
Experts Plz help on this as I am on pressure to complete this.

  • How to capture DV-NTSC material with 12bit audio ?

Does anybody have the solution ?

In the Final Cut Pro Menu select Audio/Video Settings
    select the capture preset tab
    DV NTSC is probably selected.
    click on the edit button
click OK to make a copy
in the QT Audio settings select capture first two channels, second two channels or mix channels.
This is the first time I looked at it in FCP 5, in 4.5 there was an advanced button there that allowed you to select channels and also preview the sound.
When it captures, it's going to convert to 16bit. You may have to experiment a bit to get what you want. Capture 15 seconds and see if you are getting what you want.
I'm assuming you are capturing from 12bit because you recorded onto all 4-channels of the DV tape. In the past, I've had to make sure all my audio for the first 2-channels captured to the left side, and second two channels to the right side, then when I mixed two channels in capture, i would have seperate audio. But mixing the two channels may mix audio from the Left on channel one with audio on the left from channel 2, instead of mixing L & R from channel one to the left of the captured channel. Sheesh...
Anyway, it may take some experimenting...

  • Capturing Xbox360 1080i 29.27 HD footage with AJA io HD and Final Cut 6

    Hi
We've just setup this system and we are trying to connect the xbox360 HD to FCP 6 through the AJA HD but cannot get any HD video signal in the AJA, the audio is working so there is connection between AJA and the MAC. We've tried it on SD mode from the xbox and the video signal turns on fine but its not what we want, we need to capture 1080i footage. Could it be something wrong with the cables? Well, the xbox is connected to the AJA through component cable (green, blue and red), we tested this connection directly on an HD TV and we can see footage, when connected to the AJA, nothing happens.
Has anyone tried to connect and capture xbox360 HD 1080i through the new AJA HD?
    Thanks for the help
    Monke

If the material is copy protected, you'll not be able to do this... so figure that's the problem?

  • Different material price captured during MIGO

    Hi Guru's
We have maintained the price of the material (moving average price - v) as say Rs100/-
The total quantity of stock is "0" in all the plants.
We raise a PO for this material and in the PO we maintain the price of the material as say Rs90/-
Say we order for 100 No's of this particular material.
Then in the PO the value (i.e price * quantity) of the material will be Rs9000/- (for the time being do not bother about
    the taxes & duties)
But when we do goods receipt using tcode MIGO against the PO the price captured for the material is Rs 100/- from the material
master record (moving average price - v, i.e Rs100/-), when is should be Rs90/- as maintained in the PO.
I.e the GRN value is 100 (quantity) * Rs100/- (price maintained in the material master record) which is WRONG
when it should be 100 (quantity) * Rs90/- ( the price maintained in the condition records and which is flowing in the PO)
We want the price to flow as it  is maintained in the PO and not from the material master record.
Please help to resolve the issue
    Thanks
    satish

    Hi Nate Risner
When I am referring to the price in the PO means that the price in the PO of say Rs90/- is being picked from the condition records maintained using a condition type and not the cost price from the material master records
And I am not saying that after we have purchased the moving average price should be Rs90/-
The moving average price of the material is maintained at Rs100/-
I also agree with you that the moving average price has nothing to do with the price you're going to pay the vendor.
Now when you say that "If the price in your purchase order is 90, no matter what your material master says, you will pay 90."
That is where the problem is. The price in the purchase order is 90 which is taken from the condition records.
Now when we do MIGO the value is coming as 105 (quantity) * Rs100 (moving average price in the material master record)
Even I am of the opinion as you that "Else, there would be no real way to calculate moving average."
The problem is we want the price from the PO to flow during goods receipt (i.e in MIGO) and not the moving average price from the material master records
I hope you got my point.
    Thanks

  • Capturing material that was printed to tape

I shot 24pAdvanced, captured with Pulldown, and edited on a 23.98 timebase. Looks fantastic. So far, so good.
BUT...when I print to tape, and then capture THAT (again using Pulldown), this captured file is 29.97. Why shouldn't it be 23.98?
Again, I took perfectly good 23.98 material (24pAdvanced) that was captured using Pulldown, I then printed it to tape, and then captured this print-to-tape material. In capturing this print-to-tape material, I used Pulldown. BUT it's 29.97? Wha? And why?
(Please don't post a link to a primer on 24fps. Thank you!)

    Welcome to the discussions,
You say don't post a primer on 24P, but there is something you're not getting here. Pulldown is when frames are added (6 per second) to bring 24fps material up to 30 fps. ANYTHING on DV tape is 30 fps. 24P or 24PA are both recorded to tape at 30. With a pulldown added.
When you captured the 24PA material, you captured +with pulldown removal+, NOT "using Pulldown". That put it into your system at 24fps. In your system. Going back out to tape, FCP must add the pulldown back to play at 30 again. DV tape is 30fps.
FCP inserts a 3:2 pulldown - or 24P, not PA. Thus, if you want the pulldown removed, you must use Cinema Tools to do so +after capture+.
    Make sense?
    Patrick
P.S. obviously read 23.98 and 29.97 where appropriate

  • Can Sony's HVR-M10U deck's playback of HDV 1080i 60i footage be captured?

Does anyone know definitively if Sony's HVR-M10U playback of HDV 1080i 60i footage can be captured in FCP?

    After a lot of research & trail/error I have successfully captured 1080i 60i footage into FCP 5 using Sony's HVR-M10U deck.

  • Does FCP support 1080i open GOP HDV files?

    Hello........
    A FCP pre-purchase customer question:
Will FCP support 1080i open GOP HDV for seamless editing ? My capturing device requires it.
My previous NLE has frame errors/stutters that occur when placing two or more .m2t or .mov clips side by side that were captured consecutively on a Firestore Recorder (FS-4 Pro HD).
The Firestore FS-4 ProHD captures 1080i HDV into 9 minute clips ( approx 2GB, but not always the exact same byte size ), which then can be dropped into an NLE timeline and played back seamlessly, one after another. This feature is essential to my multi-cam editing of 2 hour live music performances.
I've gotten approval from Firestore to use FCP, Canopus Edius, or Avid, and I'm willing to give FCP a try if Apple can absolutely confirm before purchasing.
Dual 2 GHz Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

FCS2 doesn't support .m2t files, you will need to use Streamclip to convert if your Firestore device doesn't make .mov files.

FCS2 supports long Gop HDV editing,

  • Capturing issue

Using Final Cut Express. Capture from Panasonic NV-DX100 DV mini tape. Tape produced on HD Sony camera. Picture 16:9 Cannot get it other than 4:3 in system. With easy setup Only choice when including operating camcoder while capturing is DV PAl 720, which gives 4:3. iMovi import gives HD 720. Anybody a solution?

It should, I cannot find anything else, but it doesn't. I gues the problem with the preset is that when you play a tape containing 1080i/50 material, the preset "automatically" excludes all players other than HDV tape decks.
So my guess is that I have two options:
Use the equipment that I have and import the material using iMovi
Use somebody's camera, providing it is has HDV functionality.
Thanks Al for all the time and effort that you have put into this.

  • Stuttered panning or moving footage

Hi all , I've recently purchased CS5 and am having a few issues, the major being that when I capture footage in CS5 and then review it any moving/panning shots are stuttered. This problem does not occur if my camera is plugged into my TV and played back. I've got a Sony HVR Z5 and capture in 25 interlace and in CS5 I create a project in the present menu of HDV 1080i 25(50i) and as soon as I review the captured footage it is stuttered when Ive used panning shot or even as people move across screen. I thought it may just be an issue with interlace so I filmed in 25 progressive and changed my project settings accordingly and again the same problem occurred. now the biggest issue is that this problem doesn't just occur with in CS5 but the burned DVD also has this problem. if someone could send me the correct project and playback settings that would be great if it fixes the problem.
    Has any got any ideas????
    Thanks in advance
    Stu....

    >I looked at the footage location and it is on the c: drive, what difference does this make?
can I direct it somewhere else? where too?

    - click the embedded picture in Harm's message to enlarge to reading size
    - you need AT LEAST 2 drives for video editing, 3 is better
    - some HD formats work better with (require) RAID

    1 - 320G WD Win7 and all programs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and PPro projects
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write
Since you have 2 drives, you should have Windows and all software on your boot drive, and all project and video files on your other drive
As to why, this is an example...
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for easy video editing
One hard drive is not as good as two which is not as good as three

  • Unable to Initialize Capture Device

    Hi,
I am having a problem importing/capturing HDV video from my JVC HD GR 1 getting "Unable to Initialize Capture Device".
I have been able to capture fine up to this point, finicky some times to be sure, but workable, then in the last few weeks it began getting more and more finicky (wouldn't connect to camera, restart and it works fine), until just the other day it wont connect no matter what I do!
    Help?
Ask questions if you need clarification.
    Camera: JVC HD GR 1
    Tape: Mini DV
    Format: HDV
    Software: FCP 5.1.4

Unfortunately when both "Capture" and "Device Control" presets are not set to HDV it wont even try to connect and gives me this warning:
"To capture HDV source material, both the Capture and Device Control presets must be configured for HDV; otherwise, to capture in another format, both must not be configured for HDV."
As a side note when my camera was connecting to FCP. FCP would only give me on screen controls half the time.

  • Trying to capture HDV with a Canon HV30    CS4

I am new to this HD video.Im trying to capture to PPRO cs4 and not sure what settings to use. When I first start out I have my new project set to HDV after that it takes me to new sequence panel there I have selected the preset HDV 1080p30 (Im hoping this is correct) after this I go to the capture panel there I select where to put the video and I also select HDV.When I try to capture the video does not show on the PPRO preview screen but it does capture the video and run the camera from there. The camera is set to HDV output and while its capturing it shows a fire wire symbol on the camera screen and says something like HDV out
Just like to know if Im doing everything correct.'
    Thanks for your time

Had you read the manual or help file on capturing HDV, you would have seen that there is no preview during capture with HDV material. I suggest you read the manual from front to cover to get acquainted with this program and watch tutorials. It will make your editing experience much nicer.

  • Long time  to render widescreen material ...

I'm sure this is a stupid question everyone and I tried my best to see if this has been posted before so I didn't have to bother you all with it but I couldn't see anything there.
I have a 2 hour play that was actually shot on a Sony Z1 (Widescreen SD,not HD) and when you download the footage into iMovie and then drag into the timeline it's there instantly. And of course had none of the dropped frame problems either. DVD did take 12 hours to burn instead of 8 so I don't know if that's the trade off.
But when the footage is downloaded into FCE 3.0 and you try and bring that into the timeline, not only do you have to have it rendered but it takes absolutely ages. Should this happen or am I going about it in the wrong way?
    * I'm actually on 10.4.9 now and I have read the thread that says I should update to FCE 3.5 to address the dropped frames problem. I'll do that soon. Might that speed up the rendering process too?
Thanks for reading this and any advice will be appreciated.
    Peter L

If you did that before your material was captured, then the material is OK. But if you didn't make a new sequence and used the default one that was in the browser it was probably DV NTSC 4:3. After you change the preset you have to make a new sequence.
