CD/DVD Disc Drive Issues

I'm having trouble with my CD/DVD disc drive.. it won't load a disc, CD nor DVD. I put it in the slot, but it doesn't catch and get pulled in. Has anyone experienced this problem and found a fix? I'm hoping that the motor isn't dead!
Thanks,
-Adam

It may just be time to replace your SuperDrive. Take it into an Apple Store for diagnostics and if they tell you that the SD has bitten the bullet (which they do sometimes) then you should have it replaced.
Sorry,

  • Disc Drive Issue

Brand new TouchSmart 600-1370 just out the box.  The disc drive immediately ejects any disc without reading.  Have used every trouble shoot on HP site.  Please help!

    Hi,
In Windows Control manager-->device manager is the device shown listed in Dvd-cd-rom stations as installed and without an yellow exclamation point?
There is no firmware update available at the support page for your TouchSmart PC.
You can try the HP Vision Hardware Diagnostics Application software to see what it says.
Frankly speaking..straight out of the box failure means back to the store for me.
    Best regards,

  • Disc drive issues

hello! i have a macbook and the disc drive wont work. it takes the discs in, makes a horrible noise then doesnt load anything up and wont spit the disc back out, any ideas would be gratefuly received!

Why not just use a hard drive? Casper, or Acronis, or even Windows Easy Transfer; as well as system image and file backup built into Vista and 7.
I wonder how a technical writer could have written something like that, there really are graduate school programs for tech writing.
Maybe if it just said to use your optical drive and then use whatever media available (DVD or BR would make more sense, though for some nothing short of 100GB and above library need and better off with hard drive backup).

  • DVD RAM Drive issue

We have a macbook pro with 2 gig of RAM and osx tiger 10.4.8. We have a DVD RAM drive due to the nature of our work. This drive always seemed to take longer to sin up thn other drives but I just assumed this was o.k Now the drive simply spits all DVD types out, but plays CD's just fine which seems odd to us. We would like to know if it could be someting simple before we send it away to apple. Any suggestions please?

From my experience it sounds like you have a faulty drive. Replacement would be the option.

  • Disc Drive Issues- Ejecting Problems

    Hi!
I was wondering if someone was able to help me with my problem:
I am currently on my second Powerbook G4... The first one I purchased in October 2005, but a DVD managed to get stuck in my drive and Apple replaced it with a new computer as they couldn't figure out how to get the disc free either. My second G4 has so far worked well, but the other day I stuck a disc into my drive and it wouldn't come out. It made the noise as if it wanted to spit it out, and then nothing happened. I panicked, waited a moment and then tried to eject it after the computer recognized it again and then luckily it came out!!
Has anyone else had this issue? Is it something that most G4 users run into, or is this something more serious?
Also- is anyone else's drive somewhat noisy? It makes a little whirring sound every two minutes or so. I used to use a friend's powerbook and I don't remember it making this much noise... I may have forgotten though.
I am currently overseas in Europe and very nervous about inserting another disc as I will not be returning to a the States for several more months and will not be able to go to an Apple Help Center.
    Cheers and thanks!

I have the impression that a tobacco smoke free and dust free environment do much to assure the reliability of CD or DVD drives in the Aluminum PowerBook series (all sizes). A friend who is a smoker purchased a CD or DVD drive cleaning kit to solve his problem, continually running the cleaner until functioning was good and disk noise was minimal.
These cleaning kits cost about US$15.00 and have a CD sized disk to which cleaner is applied. I've personally never had much luck with them but the friend is convinced his problem with tobacco smoke and/or dust was solved with one.
    Good luck.

  • Adobe Encore 1.5 DVD disc reading issues in DVD Duplicator

    Hello All,
I'm wondering if anyone has ever had the experience I'm having and if they might have a solution. I produce a weekly 1 hour music video program for public access cable TV. The show is bicycled to 15 different locations on DVD. I use Adobe Premiere and Encore the capture, edit and burn the completed program to DVD. I recently purchased a DVD duplicator tower (1 to 5 disc) to speed up the time it takes me to make the 15 copies I need. However, I have encountered an issue that I believe is related to Adobe Encore 1.5; when I put the completed master DVD into the duplicator, the duplicator is unable to read the disc. I know the disc (discs - I've tried several different shows on different DVDs with different types of blank DVD brands) is playable in the PC and on several standalone DVD players. Also, we get no complaints from the 15 stations that play our discs. At this time I'm stuck making 1 copy at a time in Encore. I know that the duplicator works as I have been able to test and successfully duplicate other DVDs and CD's that are not copy protected without issue. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? If I need to provide more information let me know?

Some notes/ideas here that may help
    To
Burn Error Proof DVDs (Well, close to error proof!)
Use the SLOWEST possible burn option your burner will allow in Encore, since it is much better to take a bit more time burning the disc than it is to burn "fast" and have a disc that won't play
Set the VIDEO portion of the transcoding options to a Maximum of 7,000 so your burned disc will have a better chance at playing in desktop players (which support burned discs, if at all, only as an "after thought" of the DVD specification)
Use AC3 or PCM audio transcode settings for best player compatibility (some discussion of MPEG audio not being supported by all players, especially for NTSC discs)
Buy and use Taiyo Yuden (or Verbatim?) brand blank discs

  • DVD/Disc Drive is freezing my MBP

I have had my MBP since November of 2007, only a few months. I love to watch DVDs on it, but every time I try playing a DVD now, it freezes my whole computer after about 10 minutes of playing. At first I thought it was the disc but it happens to all of my DVDs, even brand new ones. It sounds like the disc is still spinning but the screen freezes.
Also, I can't burn more than three music CDs without the entire computer freezing just like it does with the DVD.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Yeah, that is what I will probably do. I just wanted to see if there were other solutions before doing that because I use my computer everyday all day. I hate hardware issues, they are much harder to fix than software issues. Thanks for the welcome by the way, good to know there are nice people in the Apple community.

  • Dvd disc drive problem

My disk drive was smashed during my travels home for the holidays and has a hard time taking a disc. The opening is slightly pushed in and there is a slight dent (smooshed in area)on the bottom of the laptop about an inch to an inch and a half from the edge. The disc's sound terrible and I stopped it but had a hard time getting disc out. Is there anyway to fix this inexpensively (college kid)? Where would I find a screwdriver to try and get the casing off to take a look at it? Thanks

If you take it to a macstore or any other servicepoint where they know how to work a macbook pro you can ask if they want to try and bend it back into proper working order, this should be enough to fix your issue.

  • DVD/CD Driver issue HT-DT-ST-DVDRAM GMA-4082N ATA Device

In Device Manager, error message, "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)," displays.  I have uninstalled, and reinstalled from the Lenovo site, but it did not resolve.  The drive physically works.  In other words, the tray comes out, accepts the disc, and then the light flashes on the outside, and the spinning noise can be heard.  This seems to be exclusively related to the driver (unless there are other problems with the hardware).  What can I do?

One more thing, the O/S is Windows Vista Home.  Thank you in advance for any assistance with this driver prob.

  • Can't install CS3 Upgrade on NEW iMac 24". An Imac DVD drive issue?

My CS3 Design Premium Upgrade CD fails to install Photoshop on my BRAND NEW iMac yet it is able to install everything else on the CS3 disc. I just bought this iMac yesterday and CS2/CS3 Upgrade are the FIRST things I installed (besides updates) when I turned it on. I'm still using 10.4.10.
I searched through the Adobe forums and the internet as to how others with the same issue have dealt with the problem, but it seems the most common reason is that people had installed Photoshop CS3 beta previously as well as older Flash/Acrobat plug-ins conflicting with the installation process. Further, these causes seem to be effecting Windows users.
So a few hours ago I tried to COPY the upgrade CD contents to my hard disk, I get the message:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in 'AdobePhotoshop 10en_US.dmg' could not be read or written. (Error code -36)."
This procedure of copying to the disk (and the resulting error message) is SPECIFICALLY addressed in the Adobe support pages TechNotes:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb401429&sliceId=2
The page says that it may be a drive issue that is causing the problem. Of the 7 possible solutions given on the page, I've narrowed it down to only 1 option left (but I can't try it since I don't have another Mac!):
"*Solution 4*: Copy the software to the hard drive of a different computer.
*If the software copies successfully, the model of DVD drive on your original computer might not be able to read the DVD. Contact the DVD drive or computer manufacturer for any updates that might be available.*"
But what's funny (or annoying rather) is, I had a 20" Alum 2.4 iMac earlier this year (returned because of screen problem), and the CS3 upgrade installed without any problems on it!..??? And according to the iMac specs, the 20" and 24" models both have the same DVD drive make right?
Any ideas??? Are there other 24" iMac users who are experiencing similar problems? If not, then I guess I may have to return yet another iMac...which I'm reluctant to do since this screen is PERFECT! I'm scared to get another iMac with the dreaded screen gradient issue.

    I just solved the problem.
I tried copying the DVD files to the hard disk about 7-8 more times. The last try SUCCESSFULLY copied to the disk and I was able to install Photoshop CS3.
    Yay.

  • Currently have Mac OS X 10.5.8. But my disc drive won't read 10.6.3 Snow Leopard dvd.

I just wiped my Mac OS X 10.5.8. Reinstalled everything with the original Mac OS X software discs I got with the computer in 2008. No probems and disc drive worked just fine. Updated until I reached 10.5.8. Now I am trying to update to Mac OS X Snow Leopard. (I had it installed on this computer before and I had to order the dvd.) Now I am trying to install it for the second time on the same system. It spins for about 20 seconds once injected, until it ejects the disc. No pop ups or visual recognition of the disc shows up on the screen. Am I missing a part fo the 10.5.8 upgrade? Was the disc a one time only download? Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions?

I am not sure why they sent you a grey DVD.
I would attempt a clean install by using the correct Snow Leopard DVD to erase your hard disk before installing and then not importing anything during the install process.
Contact the Apple office where you bought your DVD if it does not work.
This issue should be on the Snow Leopard forum and not here.

  • DVD RW drive not reading discs

Hey guys, I have a G61-210CA (HP Laptop) and the DVD RW drive no longers reads discs.  I have tried running the Mr Fix it tool which could not repair the problem.  I have tried uninstalling device from device manager and reinstalling it.  I have removed the upper and lower limits in an effort to solve the problem.  I am still having the same issue.  When I put in a disc it does not recognize disc.  The light comes on and the drive spins, it is just unable to read it.  Any suggestions?

    Replace the defective drive.
