there has been some problems with cdroms... I think the best bet would be
to raise a SR with NTS, as they probably will require access to the
hardware..

  • Cat 4006 S3 - Attached hosts Net access very slow prior to reboot

I have a CAT 4006 sup III running 12.1(11b)EW1 with a number of servers attached. Users started having problems accessing servers. After investigating all the impacted servers were connected to the same switch. The switch was appeared to be operating normally. Show proc cpu, show proc mem, show logging, and ping tests all normal. Warm booted switch and asics on sup failed bootup diag. Cold boot of the switch got it back up and running. Cisco Tac reviewed the post problem sh tech with no findings.
    Any ideas?

No L2 loops and it was a hopefully isolated incident. We have to switches that are identical in hardware and IOS and only one was impacted.
clients of systems attached to the switch would have intermittently slow or non existent access to the host systems. Problems included saving files on network drives, email down, very slow or failed logins, application launches were slow or failed.
No messages were showing up in the switch log, let alone messages referred in the tech note. We have had asic issues on line cards in the past. Those instances were on different switches and created volumes of errors.
Layer 2 seemed fine. Pings were worked without fail. Console broadcast messages from host systems on the impacted switches made it out to clients.
Keep thinking it wasn't a switch problem but the reboot did fix the issue.
I will be replacing the sup card and doing a IOS upgrade this weekend.

  • Online RPD access very slow from the server

    Hi Experts,
When we try to access RPD from the production it was very slow.
Is there any setting to make it fast.
Thanks in advance for your ideas.
    Regards,
    RMD

    Yes,
Install a bi server component in windows box(which is there in same network of your production machine). This is dedicated box for rpd changes...
Now, point AnalyticsWeb(which comes default) machine name to: the linux box (production) where online rpd is there...
this machine name should be mentioned in Server field while configuring AnalyticsWeb DSN.
this way, you can make online changes for prod rpd.. This is because, we can't open rpd in linux box as there with windows..
Thanks for making me to recollect this valuable information... :)

  • Swing, VERY slow on my computer

    Hello
I have a GUI application where I do alot of linedrawing. The problem is, that my desktop does it very slow. It takes about 1minute to do a repaint.
You might think that the code is inefficient, but the same code run on my netbook with a 1.6 Intel Atom CPU(and also other computers tested), can do the repaint in a few seconds or less. I find that very weird, since my desktop is far more powerfull. Its a Q6600 Intel processor.
If anyone know why, I would be very happy!
Testing is very painfull this way :)
PS I am using Eclipse if that matters.

here i reformatted the code so that it can be pasted on this forum:

  • Windows File access very slow......

    Hi !
    I´m working with a DP800 Quicksilver, with OS-X 10.4.5.
(1,5 Gig Ram, 500 Gig Hitachi ATA 66 HD)
Via ftp, I got transfer rates (up-and download) Quicksilver
    to my linux-samba-machine of 10 MegaBytes / second !
    Via CIFS (OS-X Network environment),
to the same samba machine only 50 KBytes /second....
(windows xp, 2000, 98 AND the same mac (old harddisc, with os9.2+ thusby Dave) works with 3-5 Megabytes / second.
So what´s wrong with the filesharing under OS-X ?
(DNS Name resolution, ping etc. everything works fine)
    thank you for any comments,
    with compliments
    martin

    Hi,
Whether the issue occurs on using all systems (Windows 7/8/server) or only specific systems? Please test to access the same share folder on different computers to see the result.
Also try to install the following hotfix on that server to see the result. If client systems are Windows 8/8.1/2012/2012 R2, install this hotfix as well.
Transferring files by using SMB2 or SMB3 causes memory leak on a Windows computer
    https://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2928360/en-us
Also here is an article for troubleshooting such network related issue:
[Forum FAQ] Troubleshooting Network File Copy Slowness

First of all pelase try "1.2 Check, Enable and Disable SMB Versions in Windows operating systems" - disable SMB2/3 to see if issue persists in SMB1. This is just for testing and you can re-enable after testing.
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and un-mark them if they provide no help. If you have feedback for TechNet Support, contact [email protected]

  • IPod touch runs very slow on my computer

I recently purchased the 3rd Gen iPod touch and so far it has been running extremely slow when plugged into my computer. I installed all the latest updates and it's still running slow. On my 5th Gen iPod, songs were changed and deleted instantly. Any suggestions?

Same problem, although it used to be much quicker, I am unsure of when it became so slow.
It's taking about 4 seconds a song to copy to my Touch, while an older Nano takes less than a second per song on the same computer. The same Touch hooked up to my Macbook Pro is very quick. Just on my PC running Windows 7 64 is it slow.
Also oddly iTunes has an issue playing music when the Touch is syncing now. It pauses briefly every few seconds. Never used to do that either.
Wondering if I the last update did this?

  • Very slow Backup (Many little file in many subdirectories)

    - I have a Netware 6.5 SP8 server with the post SP8 NSS patch installed (NSS version 3.27.01 April 7, 2009)
    - iSCSI Initiator Version 1.06.05 October 30, 2008 connecting a 410 GB NSS Volume (Lefthand Networks iSCSI SAN)
    - the volume contains user data, and contains, from the Root, a USERDATA directory, which then contains 32,749 individual user directories.
    - The majority (90%) of the user directories are empty
    - each user directory has it's own trustee assignment, and space restrictions
    - compression is enabled
    - 376,269 Files using 45,556,460,661 bytes in 221,439 directories so the average would be around 121K per file and as you can see it's very Directory intensive
TSATEST, indicates approximately 850 MB/min result, but when I attempt to back up the data using my backup software (NetVault, which uses NDMP), the performance is hideous. A Full Backup runs around 135k/sec or 8 MB/min (try getting that done in any size backup window) . I have also tried other backup solutions, with the same basic result.
I assume the issue is with indexing, but I'm not sure what to check at this point. I've been trying every suggestion I could find. I've gotten the throughput up to about 1.5M/s, but obviously need better. Just wanted to know if anyone here had any suggestions that might help me to make this function more efficiently, or any TID's that have proven helpful.
    Thank You!

    Known issue....

I have seen this in Java development shops with millions of 1kb files
and folders. The nature of Java.
    - Use tar or zip on the local server, not across the wire to compress
    those types of data folders.
    - Exclude those folders from backup
    - Then backup only the zip or tar files.
or maybe look into rsync as I think is copies by hardware blocks not
    files?????
    - maybe need toreview your environment if it is a development shop like
Java.Maybe switch to GPFS or Reiser for many small files if you can, EXT
could handle it for your small amount of data though.

  • Jdeveloper very slow - too many files?

We're getting increasingly poor performance in Jdeveloper. Expanding a project for the first time in a session takes a long time, opening some files causes the CPU to spike to 100% for around 20 seconds, and even changing a property in the JSF editor takes about 10 seconds.
Our application is quite large - approximately 20MB in the workspace folder. Also, I've noticed that my system folder has grown very large - 94MB, with .history accounting for 43MB.
Is anyone else having similar problems? Can anyone suggest something to improve performance?
Other factors - CPU: P4 2.4MHz, Memory: 1GB, using CVSNT, but same performance when Versioning is disabled.

I mentioned the version numbers above - do you need anything else?
It takes approx 15 seconds to open with no open workspace.
Here's a stack dump taken when opening the ViewController project for the first time:

  • Photoshop is very slow in my computer (win7 x64)

I don´t know what happen, since i had winVistax64, and now that I have win7x64 photoshop works really slow (brushes, all!!) I can´t do anything normally, takes a while to paint, is really annoying... for info i have a laptop Sony VAIO with 4GB, intel core 2 duo 2,26Ghz... I don´t think that the computer is the problem . Please, please help!!

Did you update PS CS4 to 11.0.1?
Also using this guide will help speed things up. It is written for XP and Vista. But if you follow the rules for Vista then it will work with Windows 7.
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404439.html
There are several guides to speed up windows 7 too. Much to do with turning things off running in the background. (Same as Vista).

  • Creative cloud apps very slow on my computer?

My computer is just under 12 months old; has 8gb ram 1.5 Tb memory plus two extra HD's - one an extension, the other a back up drive.
Any thoughts on cloud being slow? Didn't think the extra drives would have anything to do with it.......

I had premiere and after effects running. When I move from one to the other, message at the top says not responding. It lasts bet. 10 and 30 secs and then works.
I also have a back up drive and expansion drive but all footage being used is from the normal c drive.
Your last sentence provides the probable answer - your C:\ drive is for your programs,  NOT your media.
Move your footage on to another internal drive and that should help.
But to give real help, we need to know a lot more about your system, and the type of footage you are trying to edit.

  • Very slow, unresponsive desktop computer since downlaoding Firefox 4

I downloaded the latest version of Firefox a few days ago. Ever since then. my computer has been really slow -- sometimes it does not respond to single clicks of the mouse but requires several attempts before anything happens.

Netcfg pretty much just configures wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd. The best way to go at solving this is to manually start wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd first the way netcfg 2.5.4 does, than again the way the latest netcfg does. Look at the differences, figure out which one is causing the problem.

  • Ssh access very slow to some accounts

I have OS X Server 10.6.2 up and running. If I ssh from a client machine to the server as the admin user, I get a password prompt, and on entering the password I immediately get to a shell prompt. If I do the same but specify another user, I get a password prompt and then there is a long wait of about a minute after entering the password before I get a shell prompt.
I believe I have DNS set up correctly. Both forward and reverse DNS is working for both addresses on my local network and for external addresses. Running the "sudo changeip -checkhostname" command shows no problems.
On examining the logs I see a few worrying looking entries such as:
Dec 14 11:10:39 mms edu.mit.Kerberos.CCacheServer[1478]: launchctl start error: No such process
But I still see that the user that saw the long delay before logging in successfully has valid Kerberos tickets, as per the output of the "klist" command:
    mms:~ sh$ klist
Kerberos 5 ticket cache: 'API:Initial default ccache'
    Default principal: [email protected]
    Valid Starting Expires Service Principal
    12/14/09 11:31:04 12/14/09 21:31:04 krbtgt/[email protected]
    renew until 12/15/09 11:30:33
    12/14/09 11:31:34 12/14/09 21:31:04 host/[email protected]
    renew until 12/15/09 11:30:33
Which would imply that Kerberos is doing its job correctly?
Any suggestions about what might be causing the delays I'm seeing and what I might do to correct the problem?

I'm still struggling with this and drawing a blank searching for similar reports. Does anyone else see this problem? I'm beginning to suspect it might be something unique to my setup.
To add a further piece of information, the home directory of the account which is slow to connect to is an afp mount and the first thing I see in the system log after the long delay is a line like the following:
Feb 9 11:21:36 mms sshd[50749]: afp home directory mount succeeded
A pwd run from this account shows:
    /Network/Servers/mms.marske.local/Users/sh
and the mount command shows the following info:
map -fstab on /Network/Servers (autofs, automounted, nobrowse)
I was thinking that maybe it was the afp automount that was taking so long except for two things.
    1) The disk is local to the server, and
    2) If I logout of this account an issue the command "ls /Network/Servers/mms.marske.local/Users/sh" from another account, the directory listing returns immediately.
    Any thoughts?

  • Hard Drives Access VERY slow. Can u pls advise what to check. THANK YOU.

If my MacPro is sitting idle for a few moments when I go to access one of the internal HD's, either one, it takes for ever to spin up and access. Most common is when I am in an application and use File/Open then have to wait at least 15 seconds for the drive/folder/file window to open.
Any ideas please. I'm at latest rev.
    Thank you.

Thank you smokerz, I've got the energy down to never and have just dragged the two HD's into Privacy, I'll post if this helps.
