Cfmx7 Taking 100% of Processor (Web becomes unresponsive)

The server in question has been running fine for weeks at a time, until recently.
After  a reboot (because of a Kernel upgrade for RHEL) it started acting up.  Roughly every 12 hours, the cfmx7 process becomes unresponsive, and takes up  about 100% of the CPU.  This makes the server seem unresponsive to web requests.   The only message in the log when this happens is "java.lang.OutOfMemoryError"  over and over until the process is killed and the service is restarted.  I've already tried upping the memory in the JVM, but still no fix.  Any other  thoughts?
Configuration Info:
JVM Arguments:
-server -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:PermSize=128m -XX:NewSize=48m -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/../ -Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/../lib
Min JVM Heap = 1024MB
Max JVM Heap = 1536MB

If you are using a 32-bit RHEL version, then i think you are setting your Min and Max heap too high. On paper, a JVM (1.4 and up) running on a 32-bit OS can be allocated a maximum of 1.6, although in CF, this is not always true. By experience, the max you can allocated CF on 32-bit is 1.3-1.4, and that's just OS and CF. If you a have a 64-bit OS, on paper, you can go and set it up a full 4.gb. See this blog by Steve E. --- http://www.talkingtree.com/blog/index.cfm/2007/8/29/CF8-Performance-64-bit
My suggestion is to start your Min/512 - Max/1024, then monitor your performance. Also, since you are running CFMX7, then I suggest you take some java stack traces to see what's going on under the hood. Here's the link --- http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/183/tn_18339.html

  • Two processors, one becomes unresponsive..

    Hello all,
I'll try to keep it to the very basics, otherwise we may get lost in the details.
I have two classes; WebcamImageGrabber & WebcamStreamer.
Both are to be constructed with a DataSource as argument and create a processor.
The WebcamImageGrabber is a Thread and basically gets the stream and converts it to a still image and updates a JLabel.
The WebcamStreamer sets up a DataSink to stream with.
Both classes use the FormatControl[]'s to set the tracks to a desired format; the WebcamImageGrabber for the image size and such, and the WebcamStreamer for streaming format (currently VideoFormat.H263_RTP, though I need to sort out if that's the propper one).
Both classes work but only if one of them is disabled. Apparently, the other class's functionality is broken when a class Configure() it's own processor.
    No errors, no warnings. Hmm.
I wonder if it's even possible to have two Processors, or, if it's desireable at all.
Now, I searched these forums but all I found were a lot of unanswered threads.
Are these forums dead? Am I looking in the wrong place? Anyone who knows, please do tell.
    Thanks in advance,
    Onno

    Ah, yes, I see now.
I've modified my code as following:
The class that initializes (or rather, 'finds' it) the webcam and sets up a private datasource now has this method:
    public DataSource getRawDataSource() {
         return ((SourceCloneable)this.ds).createClone();
}this.ds is initialized in the constructor like this:
    public Webcam() {
            dataSource = Manager.createDataSource(loc);
            this.ds = Manager.createCloneableDataSource(dataSource);
}When using a cloned datasource, neither streaming or the grabbing works.
    Grabbing locks up at stream.read(b);
    Any ideas?

  • Why does safari web browser become unresponsive?

Every once in a while the main part of the safari web browser on my iPad 2 becomes unresponsive. I can type into the address or google search area and the results will show in the window but the content seems static. Links are inactive and cannot scroll or expand/contract the page size. Any ideas on why this happens? My only solution thus far is to completely shut down the iPad and restart.

There are a myriad of reasons this can happen, including problems with content on the website you are viewing. If it seems to occur on the same sites check the site with your computer and see if it is possibly trying to download a Java applet or something similar. If there is no pattern to the websites visited you might want to Restore your iPad and see if it helps.

Nothing YOU cand do.  You'll need to bring the phone to Apple for replacement.

  • Firefox becomes unresponsive (has timeout error) when trying to print very long webpages (e.g. 100 pages).

I need to print off one long webpage containing a whole load of customer invoices. For anything up to about 40 pages this is not a problem. However, if the webpage contains more pages Firefox is unable to cope.
While data is being sent to the printer a little green progress bar appears. This bar continues for a while and then stops. Some sort of timeout error appears (i can't remember the wording) and firefox becomes unresponsive. I have to start task manager in order to close Firefox.
I then have to open a different browser in order to print the long webpage.
Anyone know of any settings I can play with to fix this?

    Hi,
Please also try this setting: Windows start menu or Control Panel > '''Devices and Printers''', right-click the printer > '''Printer properties''' > '''Advanced''', and select '''Start printing after the last page is spooled'''. In this case you can also close Firefox after spooling is over (usually much faster than direct printing), and printing will continue.
Also as a general case, if you have security software (antivirus, firewall etc.) installed, you can try deleting all existing instances of Firefox and its related processes/files in all the different configuration modules/areas of the security software like process monitoring, sub/spawned process control, virtualization, HIPS etc., in addition to the security software's main configuration panel. Instead create new fully allowed/trusted rules for Firefox + its related processes in all the different modules/panels - a genuine/original Firefox installer as well as all the installed EXEs (Application) and DLLs (Application extension) are digitally signed by Mozilla Corporation (right-click > Properties > Digital Signatures). Even otherwise, some security software may also ask again when Firefox and/or its sub processes are started, and you may be able to allow/trust at that time. As has already been pointed out, you've got a lot of junk installed. The biggest problem is likely to be the Intego software, which is far too heavy-handed and is known to devour system resources and cause instability. You definitely need to remove it. Clinging to it simply because you pay for it is simply not logical if it is causing you problems. For less intrusive means of protecting yourself against malware, see my Mac Malware Guide.
You also need to clean out your login items list, which is extensive, and should uninstall any apps you're not using. (I see you have Turbo Tax 2011, for example... since it is now the 2013 tax season, you can probably uninstall the 2011 version at this point.) When uninstalling an app, be sure to use the uninstaller provided by the developer of that app. Do not simply drag it to the trash (unless it was purchased from the App Store), and do not use any general-purpose uninstallers like AppZapper or AppCleaner.
I'd also point out one other thing:
    Top Processes by CPU:
                 100%          com.apple.ShareKitHelper
    Top Processes by Memory:
              1.48 GB          com.apple.ShareKitHelper
Note the problems that ShareKitHelper is causing. This is a part of the system, but I don't really know what it's for or why it is misbehaving. Something is causing it to hammer your processor and devour RAM, though. This may be an indication of deeper problems with your system, or may clear up after you pare down your overloaded system a bit.

  • AFP becomes unresponsive - High CPU Load

    OS X Server 10.5.8
We have been noticing that our Home Directory Servers have been plagued with becoming unresponsive. It happens every week or two.
When this situation happens, there is high CPU on the server.
I can't see any pattern as to the root cause (or the fix).
I have seen it fix itself over time (like an hour) and it goes away if I restart the server.
I have tried things like deleting user cache folders (thinking there is fragmentation), looking for apps being run from the server (user copies apps to their desktop), but this does not resolve the issue long term. My eyes don't see anything in the logs, but I could be missing something.
    It is a cleanly-installed OS from 10.5.4.
No RAID, or anything like that, it is a very clean, and vanilla install and configuration
    AFP is only thing running.
    Only used for Home directories.
I have this happening on two of our servers.
This NEVER happened last year, when we were running 10.5.4

I have been scouring the interwebs for advice on this topic. I do not know if this is definitive or not, but this appears to be an accurate assessment, with two possible solutions, depending on your size and traffic and network:
    a) Use folder redirection to direct cache items to local computer
    b) Upgrade to 10.6 with gobs of RAM
(I haven't tested either of these myself yet, I am exploring my options and strategizing, but based on all of the noise regarding this issue, the info below seems reasonable - especially considering we only recently started seeing the issue):
    {Others quote:}
DO NOT go back. I have been communicating with people across the country and in Europe who >have this same problem, and several have tried going back. It does not help. The way the thread >issue comes up is that 10.5 and earlier have a maximum number of threads available - like 3000 I >think. (You can find the real numbers on Apple's website if you look for the benefits of 64-bit >goodness.) As long as this is sufficient for all the open and active files your users have, there is no >performance hit. But as soon at they are all used up, file requests are put in a wait state. That can >snowball very quickly, and it takes the server an inordinate amount of time to sort it all back out. >It's a losing game. Performance goes from pretty good to dismal in an instant.
With 10.6, you get the same number of threads 10.5 had as an absolute max with a small amount >of memory, and your max goes up linearly with more memory, to some really big maximum. I have >servers with 12, 16, and 24 GB of memory, and none of them get above maybe 10% processor >utilization under 10.6. The same servers were saturated for long periods with 10.5.8 and earlier. >10.5 at its best had worse performance than 10.6 at its worst.
As to amount of memory, why skimp? Buy it from Crucial/Micron, and you can afford as much as >you want. I think 12 is a minimum for most purposes. That's just a few hundred dollars.
I have not heard of anyone fixing this issue without 10.6. But everyone who uses 10.6 is fixed. I >was scared to try 10.6 at first. AppleCare said not to use it in production. 10.6.2 has been pretty good in almost every way. AFS crashes for me every 14 days - with an error >they understand but have not yet fixed - but recovers on its own and without my assistance. Users >usually don't notice. Could be better, but I can live with this.
My staff server used to go bad at about 90-100 active users. Now it handles 140-150 without >noticing. I have a mix of 10.4 - 10.6 clients, and all are good with the 10.6 file servers and 10.5.8 >other servers. One big happy family.
    You need 10.6!

  • Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive on MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

    Folks,
I have exacly same sympton described here on my 5 day old 15 inc macbook pro.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5296
MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013): Keyboard and Multi-Touch trackpad may become unresponsive
Has anone tried to apply this patch on 15 inc ?
    Kind Regards,
    Neroshige

The patch is only for MBP late 2013 13 inch. 15 inch is not able to install this patch
    I'm facing this problem intermittently.
When my keyboard & trackpad went unresponsive, I plug in my USB keyboard and the keyboard & trackpad went back normal.
I search the web and somebody highlight it may due to connector to keyboard/trackpad appear to be curled.
Not sure is hardware problem or software bug...

  • Attaching USB drive causes EX4 to become unresponsive.

Hello, I have tried to setup a usb to nas backup a few times and keep having the same problem. Upon attaching the 4TB usb drive (usb 3.0) to the back of the EX4 the NAS becomes unresponsive. I can no longer access it from the dashboard or the my cloud app on a mobile device. The app says it is offline. The ex4 is on but no drives are spinning. The usb drive is spinning however.
Once, I was able to see the EX4 and the attached USB drive in my file explorer. It showed the USB drive as a share. It said something like "Share 2_1." However the internal folders were not visible. Then the EX4 froze and went unresponsive - which caused me to try and manually shut it down. It did not power down and after making sure no data was being transferred I had to pull the power (as recommended on this forum).
Once I was able to get as far as setup up a USB to NAS backup on the dashboard. I set up the source and destination folders, etc. upon saving the job the EX4 is inaccessible, while the USB drive spins.
What's going on? Is it taking a long time to index the attached drive? Is it not compatible with the USB drive (seagate 4tb external NTFS USB 3.0)?
Any insight or advice would be great. Thanks!

By default the EX4 will scan the attached USB share for media.  This process takes all the CPU of the EX4 for long periods of time, and can also lead tot he creation of numerous metadata directories in your attached drive.  You should turn this off. In addition, if you use the USB drive for backups, the DEFAULT option for the EX4 is to commence backups when the drive is connected.  This setting can be turned off in the GUI setup for the backup jobs. In addiiton, in my experience, NTFS drives take more overhead than EXT formatted drives.

  • Why does Premiere Pro 6.0 become unresponsive with longer video sequences?

Laptop A works fairly well with small Premiere Pro CS6 projects of 9 minute duration. Project is on external drive connected via USB2. Processing time is long, but at least I can get all my work done.
However, when I use Laptop A for larger projects (25-minute duration), Premiere becomes unresponsive.
Example: I try to press STOP during playback and it does no respond. In fact, the only way to stop playback is to press CTRL-S and wait for a minute until the CPU is ready to acknowledge your keystrokes.
On Laptop B the same 25-minute project performs fine (again project is on external hard drive, but this time connected over USB3).
So there are four differences between my laptops:
    LAPTOP A
    LAPTOP B
    Make & OS
Win 7 Home Premium - 64-bit (Lenovo ThinkPad)
    Win 7 Pro - 64-bit (Dell Precision)
    CPU
    Intel i5
    Intel i7
    Internal HD
    SATA2
    SSD
    RAM
    8GB
    16GB
    USB
    USB2
    USB3
I can live with Laptop A being slow, but the unresponsive is a show stopper for me. Please help me figure out which of these factors is causing the unresponsiveness.
    Thanks!
    Aaron

  • Sometimes my keyboard becomes unresponsive when using Photoshop CS6, & I have to restart

Since I upgraded to Photoshop CS6, I've found that every once in a while the keyboard becomes unresponsive.  I can't tell whether anything specific that I'm doing triggers it, but I'll be editing an image and will press a shortcut key and find it doesn't work. It doesn't happen when I first open up an image, but usually after I've been working for a while. As far as I can tell (it's pretty random) it seems to happen when I'm using a tool to apply an effect to an image, like this last time it happened when I'd been using the Spot Healing Brush repeatedly on a photograph. (Of course that could be correlation without causality, since I'm a big fan of the Spot Healing Brush and tend to use it quite a bit whenever I'm editing photos). Note that the modifier keys still function, but all of the letter and number keys are unresponsive.
Sometimes - and lately it seems like it happens always, there's a sound associated with the shut off.  It's possible that the times I didn't hear the sound I had my speakers off.  It's a brief clicking noise - and I don't think it's any of the built-in alert sounds on my Mac, since I just listened to all of them and I recall this sound being different - but the sound is definitely coming from my speakers and is not a mechanical sound from the machine.  I have no idea what might be causing this. I saw someone complaining of this a couple of years ago, who thought it might have to do with a Wacom tablet. I own one, but don't always use it, and this happens even when I'm not using it.  The only way I've found to get my keyboard responding again is to shut down Photoshop and restart.
I'm on a Macbook Pro, 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7, with 8GB Ram; I'm on OS X 10.7.4 (not quite ready to upgrade to Mountain Lion).

Okay - it looks like I've solved my own problem after a few hours searching for related problems on the web.  It's not a problem with Photoshop but with Mac OS X.  The default "Universal Access" mouse and trackpad preferences were set to "Press the Option Key five times to turn Mouse Keys On or Off." So when I use a tool that I'm modifying with the option key, and I use it repeatedly five times in a row, I hear the clicking sound that means turn on "Mouse Keys" (and turn off the regular keys). Turn off that option, and the problem is solved!

  • Adobe FP 10-A Script in this movie is causing Adobe FP 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort this script? yes or no. How do I fix this crash?

Adobe FP 10-A Script in this movie is causing Adobe FP 10 to run slowly. If it continues to run your computer may become unresponsive. Do you want to abort this script? yes or no. How do I fix this crash?

    Hi,
Some "movies' are actually Flash files.
This means the Flash App will play them (possibly in a browser in some cases).
Depending where this item is and how it is playing it may be effected by other things
A web page can include javascript.
Apple uses javascript here to help with creating the posting box, the Edit options, Adding pics/smilies and the like.
Sometimes the javascript can be what is called a runaway process and gets sort of stuck in an endless loop.
If it is a free standing item then it might be triggered by AppleScript on the Mac. (or be modified in some way)
Again if the Script (normally written with a upper case S) is not perfect it can cause problems.

SQL Causes server to swap and become unresponsive does it have the same effect with other users??
WARNING - script causes my servers to not respond, requiring reboot after 30 mins
Only run on a server/vm where a bounce is ok
    The script creates a table
Runs an anonymous block to put 160mb in a single clob
Runs a simple select with some REGEXP_REPLACE and REGEXP_SUBSTR
This has been raised with Oracle support.
Their conclusion is lots of single block reads are causing the server to hang.
I do not think this is the reason and would like someone else to run it, to see what they think!

Hit CTRL+C to cancel, ENTER to continue...HANG!
    Now I am lost!!
As Iggy points out from the strace, the OS is returning an error back to the Oracle foreground process, is this not handled?
Or is it normal for oracle to ignore this error, and ask for more memory?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

  • Downloaded Safari 4.0.3 upgrade and Safari will become unresponsive. Why??

Periodically the new version of Safari will become unresponsive when I click on a web site. Any web site. The spinning beach ball starts and never quits. I have to force quit and start it back up again. I hope that Apple is working on a fix for this.It seems a lot of others are having problems with it too.

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Have you checked to see how much free disk space you have on the PBook?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. *Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.*
    ~Library/Input Managers
    ~Library/Internet Plugins
If there are any files in the Input Managers and Internet Plugins folder, drag them to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart your PBook.
    Repair Disk Permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
Also, these updates are required to run Safari 4.
    Security updates 2009-001 and 002.
Open System Preferences/Software Updates. Make sure those updates were installed.

Repeatedly, this error code suddenly appears on the screen and I don't have a clue what it means or what to do:  "A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player to run slowly.  If it continues to run, your computer may become unresponsive.  Do you want to abort the script?
                                             No     Yes"

    Hi,
Some "movies' are actually Flash files.
