Change connection from SQL to SSAS for power pivot table

Hi,
I have created a power pivot table using MDX query from SSAS. I also created multiple pivot table and other complex reports using this power pivot table. Now I should use a different cube which has almost different columns than the old cube. It would be
a hassle now to simply change the query and hence redoing the entire report due to column name changes. I was hoping to use the SQL OPENQUERY using linked server to get data from SSAS using MDX to SQL so that I can alias the column names to old. The problem
now is I cannot change the connection for existing power pivot table to a different provide (sql) from SSAS. Is there anyway I can do this?
Please let me know if there is any other way that would save me from re-doing the entire report.
Thanks

Unfortunately, you can't just repoint the connection currently - you will need to rebuild it. I've run into this myself not too long ago, and the team is aware of the requirement.

  • Steps to change universe database connection from SQL server to Oracle 10

    Hi,
we are moving from sql server to Oracle 10.Please let me know the steps and various parameters I should consider while changing universe database connection from SQL server to Oracle 10.
Following are the steps which I assumed :
    1.     create a new Oracle database connection or edit the existing connection to point to Oracle server
    2.     Need to check sql for each object, having integrity check for universe will solve the purpose of parsing each object
    3.     Exporting the universe after integrity check
    4.     Report data testing
Let me know if I miss on any steps. Also what all factors I need to consider while moving to Oracle for eg: what @ custom sql, what @ table names, what @ LOV etc.
    Kindly reply

    Thanks Abhijeet and Shreyash,
I will follow the steps you have suggested.
Actually I was searching for this on net and got to know that with Oracle database connection, theres lot of stuff needs to take care of in terms of custom sql and LOV and in our case,we have lot of custom sql for each object in the universe so just wanted to confirm.
I will do the changes and let you guys know in case theres any isuue specifically to Oracle.

  • Connect from SQL Developer to several SQL Server instances

Our SQL Server has more than one instance, but I see only one instance of them trying to connect from SQL Developer 1.2 to SQL Server. How I should define the connection information? Usually we connect to SQL Server by <hostname>/<instancename> and then the database name as CatalogName (Initial Catalog). In the Oracle world you can give only the hostname, a port number and the database name. How I can convince the SQL Developer to choose one of our SQL Server instances?

    Hi user627927,
    Bug/Enhancement request already logged.
We have not got this configuration in house, two people have suggested workarounds but we are unable to test them for now. The last person was unable to get these workarounds working, and we have not confirmed them in house.
Can you get the instances connected through two different ports?
It would be great if you could confirm either workaround.

*1/Suggestion 1 change the url through SQLDevelopers xml connection store.
[Note it is probably simpler to connect a dummy connection through the connection dialog as usual save it (you cannot connect) and then add the instance information rather than having to enter all the information in an unmanaged way.]
    Hi Naveen,
I had same problem as you and user579801. I managed to resolve it by doing the following.
    1. Locate the file called IDEConnections.xml in the folder where you have installed SQL Developer (eg. c:\sql developer\sqldeveloper\system\oracle.jdeveloper.db.connection.11.1.1.0.11.42.62).
    2. Create the following entries under <connections> tag.
    <connection>
    <URL>jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://\\.\;namedPipe=true;instance=SQLDBNam;</URL>
    <ConnectionName>SQLServer</ConnectionName>
    <user>SQLUser</user>
    <ConnectionType>JDBC</ConnectionType>
    <DeployPassword>false</DeployPassword>
    <JdbcDriver>net.sourceforge.jtds.jdbc.Driver</JdbcDriver>
    <RaptorConnectionType>Microsoft SQL Server</RaptorConnectionType>
    </connection>
    3. Save the file; Close and re-open the SQL Developer and try connecting.
Hope this will solve your problem. Good luck.
    Regards
    Raja
*2/Overload the port field to have instance in the eventual url
This took some figuring out but I cracked it in the end....
    SQLServer tab:
    Hostname: <servername>
    Port: <portnumber>/<databasename>;instance=<instancename>
so for me the Port field looks like this: 1433/Gaffa;instance=SQL01
That should now connect to a named instance SQL Server.

  • How to connect from sql*plus to Sql Server

    Dear Profs.
How I can connect from sql*plus v8 on my local pc(Win XP) to Sql Server Express 2005 light weight installed in same local pc ?
    Thanks,
    Ahmed.

You'll need to setup heterogeneous services. This is done by creating an init file for the SQL Server db with %ORACLE_HOME%\hs\admin that refers to a DSN for the Sql Server Database. The listener would also need an entry for the SQL Server DB DSN. After that you would create a dblink to SQL Server in your Oracle instance and then could query across the dblink.

My USB charger is not supporting while i am connecting from PC to iPad for charging (showing as " Not Charging"), Kindly advice me

    Hi Folks,
I have tried most of what have been said here ( thank you for the great Job) but unforunatally it didn't solve the issue.
However, now the "Not Charging" message in the right corner disappeared and my iPad is charging normally from my laptop.
The reason behind that is using the USB3.0 port in my Dell inspiron N5110. Earlier, I was using the USB 2.0  ports and that is why it was showing that message but as sooon as I pluged it in the eSATA USB 3.0 port , the message disapeared and the iPad started charging normally.
So don't waste ur time here and there try to plug it to USB 3.0 port and it will works, Insha ALLAH.

  • Power Query; How do I reference a Power Pivot table from a Power Query query

    Hi,
It's pretty awesome how you can define Extract Transform and Load processes within Power Query without having to type in a single line of code. However how do I reference a Power Pivot table from a Power Query query to avoid me repeatedly accessing
the same data source (CSV) file with a view to increasing performance?
We are aware of the reference sub menu option with Power Query. However the new query created by the "reference" option still seems to refresh data from the data source (CSV) rather than just referencing the base query. Is this understanding
correct? There does seem to be a lot of hard disk activity when re-running the new query which is based on a base query rather than a data source.  So we were hoping the new query would just need to reference the base query in memory rather than rescanning
the hard disk. Is there any way to ensure that the reference query just rescans the base query in memory?
    Kind Regards,
    Kieran.
    Kieran Patrick Wood http://www.innovativebusinessintelligence.com http://uk.linkedin.com/in/kieranpatrickwood http://kieranwood.wordpress.com/

    Hi Kieran,
This sounds like something to be suggested for a future release. At the present time, Power Query will always re-run the entire Power Query query when refreshed. The Reference feature is analogous to a SQL view whereby the underlying query is always re-executed
when it's queried, or in this case refreshed. Even something like using the Power Query cache to minimise the amount of data re-read from the disk would be helpful for performance but the cache is only used for the preview data and stored locally.
It would be a good idea to suggest this feature to the Power BI team via the feedback smiley face.

  • How to connect from SAP on DB2 for i5/OS to external oracle database

    Hello,
I managed to retrieve data from an external DB2 for i5/OS database using ABAP Native SQL running on another i5/OS server.
I also managed to retrieve data from an external oracle database using ABAP Native SQL running on another Windows/Oracle server.
Now i want to use ABAP Native SQL running on an i5/OS and retrieve data from an external Oracle database?
I suppose i need software to connect fron I5/OS to this oracle database like you need extra software when you want to connect to an i5/OS database if you are running SAP on Windows (read note 751451)
    Does anybody know?
    Thanks in advance
    Bertil Rebergen

    Hello Bertil,
to access an Oracle database from within an SAP system you'll need SAP's database interface library specific for Oracle plus the Oracle database client library utilized by SAP's database interface library. Both need to be available for the operating system your application server runs on, i.e. IBM i5/OS in your scenario.
Since the required Oracle database client software is not available for IBM i5/OS your SAP application servers on IBM i5/OS cannot access your Oracle database.
To overcome this limitation you would need to add at least one additional SAP application server based on Windows or Linux/Power to your current SAP system utilizing IBM DB2 for i5/OS. Since the required software libraries are available for these two operating systems you will be able to solve your problem this way.
Best Regards, Christian Hoelters, SAP AG.

  • UD Connect from SQL Server does not parse semicolons

    Hi,
I am trying to retrieve data from SQL Server database using UD Connect and a Remote Cube.
The data comes over and the string looks like this:
    '07;2005;LOC;2345.45;Comment'
The first field is defined as 10 varchar in SQL Server so my Infoobject is also 10 char long.
However when I use LISTCUBE or a query the field contains the first 10 characters: '07;2005;LOC' and the second field picks up from the next character.
When the SQL Server definition of the field was changed to char(10) the first field was OK but the second field in BW started with ';'.
It looks like that the ';' is not interpreted as the divider between fields.
Does anybody know how to overcome this issue?
    Thanks for your help,
    Tamas Nagy

    Hi Anwesa,
I have the same problem on BW 3.5 Service pack 17 with J2EE servic pack 18 -
is there a general olution to the problem?

  • Able to connect from SQL-Assistant BUT unable to connect from Sql Developer

    Hello,
I have been troubling with this issue for the last two weeks...tried so much, but could not able to resolve....
    sqlplus username/password@IPAddress:port/ServiceName
I am able to connect to DATABASE from SQLAssistant only when I provide string like ABOVE........If I dont mention the SERVICE, m unable to connect to DB...
Now the biggest issue is with SQL Developer.....m not at all able to connect to DB using SQL Developer....I tried all options...but no use...
    waiting for your reply......
    Thanks Much in Advance.....

What have you tried, and what error messages are you getting?
When you create a connection in SQL Developer, you should specify IPAddress, port,ServiceName as in your sqlplus connect string.

  • Best way to push change data from sql server to windows/web application

i apologized that i do not know should i ask this question in this forum or not.
i have win apps which will load all data initially from db and display through grid but from the next time when any data will change in db or any data will be inserted newly in db then only change or newly inserted data need to be pushed from db side to
my win apps. now only sql dependency class is coming to my mind but there is a problem regarding sql dependency class that it notify client but do not say which data is updated or inserted.
so i am looking for best guidance and easy way to achieve my task. what will be the best way to push data from sql server to win or web client.
    there is two issue
    1) how to determine data change or data insert. i guess that can be handle by trigger
    2) next tough part is how very easily push those data from sql server end to win apps end.
so looking for expert guide. thanks

    Hello,
Yes, you can create DML trigger on INSERT and UPDATE to get the changed data into a temp table. And then query the temp table from application.
If you are use SQL Server 2008 or later version, you can also try to use
    Change data capture, which
can track insert, update, and delete activity that is applied to a SQL Server table and store the changed values on the Change Table.

  • ODBC--connection to 'SQL Serverservername' failed for one user but not another

In Win7, we're linking tables in an MS Access 2010 db to tables in a SQL Server 2008 R2 db. The driver user by the File dsn is SQL Server version 6.01.7601.17514 & we're using SQL Server Authentication.
For some reason, one user gets the msg "ODBC--connection to 'SQL Serverservername' failed" before they're even asked for a password, but for other users, the prompt comes up and when they uncheck the Windows Auth box, they enter their password
and connect successfully to the SQL Server db.  Both users have db_datareader access to the SQL Server db.
I had the user that gets the error msg log onto my PC and they get the same error (yet it works for me.)
This user was, however, able to successfully relink the tables, but then when we closed the access db and opened it again, the user got the "ODBC--connection..." error agin.
I'm stumped as to why this is happening for one user.

    Hello Knellen,
Please help to collect more log information regarding this issue, such as windows event log, SQL Sever log information. They are helpful for us to troubleshoot it.

Since tnsping did NOT return an error, we know that you did not tnsping 'orcl', which is what you tried to connect to with sqlplus.  Show us the actual tnsping command.

  • Trouble connecting to SQL 2014 Database using Power Query

I am trying to connect to a SQL 2014 Database using Power Query.  My connection string requires that I set the "Application Intent" setting to a value of "readonly", The connection parameter is required by SQL 2014 because of
    the failover cluster configuration.
I have successfully been able to connect via PowerPivot with the following connection string:
    Provider=SQLNCLI11;Data Source=<Server>;Persist Security Info=False;Integrated Security=SSPI;Initial Catalog=<DB>;Application Intent=readonly
I cannot seem to find the correct syntax to connect via SQL 2014.  This is the syntax that I have been attempting:
    Sql.Database("<Server>", "<DB>",[Application Intent=readonly])
    Is this currently supported?
    Thanks, Barbara

It's not yet, I'm afraid, but it's something we're aware of and have vague plans to address :/.
