Change document flag in data element

Hi All,
What exactly the purpose of Change document flag that has been associated with the data element? How it keeps track of changes done to that particular field can some body explain in detail please.

Hi,
Many commercial objects are frequently changed. It is often useful, or even necessary, to be able to trace the changes made. If changes are logged, you can find out at any time, what was changed and when and how the change was made. This can sometimes make the analysis of errors easier. In financial accounting, for example, change documents are used to make auditing possible.
Changes are logged in change documents, which can be created for actual or planned changes.
<b>Set change document flag</b>
This is necessary so that the object-specific function modules can identify which field of the defined object should be entered in the change document during logging.
If the flag is not set, you can change it. The flag becomes effective after the activation

How to get change log for fields if change document flag is not maintained?

Hi experts,
My requirement is display the change log details for the transaction FAGLGA32.
In this transaction we have the Field Groups block.if any change is happened for field group we need to capture the change.
the field for the field group is RKAL1-FGFLG1 and the data element is FGFLG.
In the data element FGFLG, the flag CHANGE DOCUMENT is not maintained.
How to get the change log details for the fields for which the change document flag is not maintained at data element level?

Updating exist FI document BSEG-ZUONR data element.

Hi there,
We're trying to update ZUONR field on an FI document (BSEG) after it has been posted. I looked for a "change fi document" BAPI and have not been able to do so. Is a BDC for FB02 the only choice for such a requirement or is there a FM suitable for this task?

First, thanks for the replies, second my apologies for not being more specific.
Here is the scenario: I have new custom data element added to MIRO, which is eventually stored in the RBCO table (at the line item level.) Our requirement is have this data element moved into the BSEG-ZUONR field.
I am aware of BTEs and have attemped to do so using the 1120 process, but the problem is I don't have access to the original data as entered in MIRO in the tables available in that BTE. It appears that the RBCO table is not even update until after 1120 process is executed.

Change document for HR data

Hi All,
I have a requirement in which we need to get the changes happening at field level in some Employee related (like PA0002) HR master data. We have checked that related fields, in those data elements check box is not enabled. For those changes we need to create interface program.
I already created change document object in scdo T-code. For triggering the generated function module there is no relevant user-exit.
For this we found one way of keeping the event trigger at database table level, and we found that we need to keep the form routine AB. But we dont have any idea about the process methodology.
Could you please tell me how to write the code in that related process routines in the standard tables? Or if there is another way is available to trap the changes at field level.

Hi,
To ensure that changes to infotype fields are entered (changes, creations, deletions), these fields must be maintained in the following views: HR Documents: Infotypes with Documents (V_T585A), HR Documents: Field Group Definition (V_T585B), and HR Documents: Field Group Characteristics (V_T585C).

Changing size of standard data element.

Hello here,
I need some clarification.
I have standard data element TIDNR - Technical identification number (Used in PM tables).
It has Data Type - CHAR and Length 25.
Is it possible to increase his length to 35?
Maybe, it is possible to create new data element ZTIDNR and make reference to TIDNR?
Or easily is to add some user field to equipment time segment?

always be careful.
Check what the where-used-list says: It's not only the use in programs and database tables, all input/output fields are also affected and must be changed manually (which is a modification).
You may create an own translation table: If i.e. you allow only 96 characters as defined ind [CDC display code|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CDC_display_code] , this can be reduced to 8 characters in 6 bytes or 33 chars in the original data element. Some bit&byte operations required for the conversion. If you define your own code with, say only A-Z, 0-9 and space and some more you can reduce to 5 bits having 8 characters in 5 bytes and so forth.
If you are on unicode with 2 bytes per char, possibilties are even more...
Yes, it's kind of a challenge - but at least an idea.

Activate Change Document - Product Master Data

Hi Experts,
I am looking for comments on the following things. I hope the experts could share experience related to real time projects that you have worked / are working.
I am considering the option to activate Change Documents for Product Master data, Product Location Master data and Transportation Lanes.
Question I have (Please answer on any or all of the questions, if you can):
1. Have you activated change documents on Product Master data? If so, how many products you have in total (number of entries in /SAPAPO/MATKEY)?
Have you turned it off later due to performance reasons? Or Storage/hardware constraints?
2. Do you have the change documents active on Location product master data? How many location products do you have in total (no. of entries in /SAPAPO/MATLOC)?
3. Transportation lanes - Change documents activated? Does it also say if the external procurement relationship is activated or deactivated and the user who did this and date? How many transportation lanes do you have in total? Is there a possibility to activate the change documents on transportation lanes only for those which are procured from external vendors (not for Stock transfers... only for those arrives in from Suppliers)?

Need to change the lenth of data element WRBTR in Idoc FIDCCP01.

In my program i am doing a amount calculation and storing it in variable of data type BSIS-WRBTR. The same i am passing to a Idoc segment FIDCCP01 which alos uses the same data type. WRBTR has alenth of (13,2).
My calculation are crossing the desired limit of this data type. So i would like to change the Data elemet WRBTR used in IDOC segment.
Can any one guide me in how to do this.

iam not sure of where i can get the IDOC number and implement the code,the only area where i could get the IDOC number is at the higlited square block where i explained that i can get but i am not able to write any code there as SAP is not allowing me .

Change document for NETWR_AK

Hi,
I thinking activated Change document flag for data element NETWR_AK (Net Value at Sales order header). Now if I change the price of an item or add a line item in a sales order,there is no change document created for it in CDPOS (Obviously the net value of the sales order will change).
I would expect a change document to be created in Table CDPOS every time the Net value of the Sales order is changed.
What is the implication is i mark the change document for this field, because when i try to activate it, it will warn me the dependability of this field to other table and structure which is quiet a lot....Will it jam my CDPOS in future?

Activate Change Document Check box in Data Element "J_CHGKZ"

Hi experts,
Our developer want to activate the change document for the data element "J_CHGKZ". The access key has been applied. We have tried to activate the change document check box in SE11, but the change box is disabled even in change mode. Has anyone come across this before and does anyone have a solution to this?

Hi,
SAP does not allow to use change management for date, time fields. Thats the reason for not allowing change to BDTER field.

The steps for creation i followed is as:

Change documents for the custom transaction

hi,
how could we trap the changes in our custom transaction to CDHDR,CDPOS tables.
we had created the object and generated update information.
where exactly we should call our write_document function module (generated in the object class ) in our module pool program.

Activate the 'Change document' checkbox for data element. You must updating some table by your program. So just check the 'Change document' checkbox for those dataelement that you are updating in the table.
You will find the 'Change document' checkbox in the following path : dataelement-> farther element->'Change document' checkbox.
Now, if that checkbox is checked, the CDHDR and CHPOS table will be updated whenever you do any chnge in the table.
Now you can readthe table with a date to find out whether the bable is modified.
Now performance wise it is better to use change pointer instead of change document. Change pointer also do the same functionality as the change document.
To do that go to BD52, give a message type andd all the table and fields for which you are updating through your program.
Now you can use 'Change_pointer_read' FM to read the values that are change.
Ex:
        CALL FUNCTION 'CHANGE_POINTERS_READ'
          EXPORTING
            message_type                = gc_message_type
            creation_date_high          = s_erdat-high
            creation_date_low           = s_erdat-low
            creation_time_high          = gc_time_high
            creation_time_low           = gc_time_low
            read_not_processed_pointers = 'X'
          TABLES
            change_pointers             = lt_chgptrs_tab.
gc_message_type message you have given in BD52 and you will get all the chaged element in lt_chgptrs_tab.
Now after reading the values to update the fact that you have read those values you have to call another FM.
          CALL FUNCTION 'CHANGE_POINTERS_STATUS_WRITE'
            EXPORTING
              message_type           = gc_message_type
            TABLES
              change_pointers_idents = gt_pointer_id.
          COMMIT WORK.
gt_pointer_id will have all the change pointer ids from lt_chgptrs_tab table that you have already reead.
The table for change pointer is BDCP.

Problem while creating change document

i am creating change document for master data like project type , project applicant
but i am unable to complete it as i am very new to ABAP
can any one give me step-by-step procedure to do the same?
I have followed the procedure given in sap Liabrary i.e.
1 - Define the change document object
2 - Check in the Dictionary, whether the data elements of the fields which are to
be logged are flagged appropriately.
3 - Generate the update.
4 - Program the appropriate calls in your program.
But then i got stucked on point 4...what exactly I need to do in that?

Hi,
The table you have used is having the key which comprises both MANDT and ID. However, while writing the code you must have used only the ID. The system takes MANDT and ID both as the key fields.
This may be the reason of the error you are encountering.

It is used as an Indicator for writing change documents
<b>Use</b>
This flag is used to create change documents for business objects.
You can create a change document object for a business object. This change document object contains the tables in which the data of the business object is stored. Function modules that are called in the corresponding application programs and that log the changes at runtime can be generated from the change document object.
Logging only takes place if the fields whose contents were changed refer to a data element that was flagged as relevant for the change document.
You can go to the maintenance screen for change documents from the initial screen of the ABAP Workbench with Development -> Other tools -> Change documents.

Log HR infotype changes without a Mod like Change Documents

We need some help with a requirement. We need to monitor HR infotype changes. We would like to be able to trigger a event like a change pointer and IDOC. However, we are trying to stay away from mods to our system. We are needed fields from 0000,0001,0003,0006,0105. Most of the fields do not have Change Documents set and would required us to create a mod to flag the data elements. We also tried to trigger and monitor these changes in ZXPADU02 until we realized that once we get to 0003,0006,0105 in zxpadu02 we don't know what the person is inserting in that specific infotype, because the exit function module does not bring in information on changes to those infotypes. We would really like to be able to trigger off of a event without creating a mod. We would like to not have to run a program to read the logging files because we like the responsiveness and real time actions of triggering and not running a periodic program. We are trying to push these changes out of SAP.

Have a look at HRMD_A05 this idoc type can transport the infotypes you mentioned and of course you can activate change pointers for that in bd50 (message type hrmd_a)

I learn the procedure for change document from sap hlep:
1.Define change document object
2.Set change document flag
3.Generate update and INCLUDE objects
4.Integrating the functionality into the program
5.Writing the fields in the program
I'm confuse about step 4 & 5. Can any guys tell me how to achieve them?

Hi Alex,
The entries into the table CDHDR and CDPOS are not made just because of making the change document active in the data element of the corresponding field.
We need to first create a change document object using the transaction SCDO for the corresponding fields and tables. Now upon generation, you would get a couple of includes and a function module.
Now, in your program, if you want to have entries in CDHDR and CDPOS for the database changes you make, you need to include the programs generated in SCDO and call the function module after every INSERT,MODIFY or DELETE. Without which the entries will not be made in CDHDR and CDPOS.
