Change "store presets...." behavior

As a school we "encourage" our students to store their images on portable devices. To facilitate this, we have instructed them to set LR up to essentially put everything on that drive and not on our machines. Part of this setup involves the "store presets with catalogue" setting. But this denies them access to the default presets, unless they restore them. Shouldn't "store presets with catalogue" stor ALL the presets?

Rick - I know that is possible (in theory) to trap the keystroke using JavaScript and replace it (or, do a focus() call or similar to move the focus to another element), but figuring out where you are in the table can get quite hairy.
To be honest, it's one of these things we've been meaning to implement on one of our apps (our issue is moving to the next element when the user presses ENTER), but haven't got round to yet.
I'd therefore be very interested to hear if you crack it (either using JS or some other method).

"Store Presets with Catalog" doesn't move existing presets

Is there a good reason why Lightroom does not offer to move current user presets when the "Store Presets with Catalog" is selected in Preferences>Presets?
If I have set up presets, templates etc. they are all gone without any warning as soon at this inocous little tick box is clicked.

Yes, the behavior is frustrating, goofy and not intuitive. It is alarming to see your user presets appear and disappear when you toggle the option check box on and off.
Not sure if Symbolic links are an option on Windows or not, but I use them on the Mac (instead of the breakable Aliases) along with DropBox. This way you I sync up multiple machines with my precious presets and other user created documents. This solves the problem of syncing DNG and Lens profiles which should but don’t live with the presets. Adobe should fill the preset folder with virtually every user configurable item like DNG profiles and Lens profiles and give us a way to easily keep them in sync.
I only use one catalog. So I have the Store Presets with Catalog on and clone the one drive among others to use with different machines. Symbolic Links take care of the other files but I wish I didn’t have to resort to this approach.

I like to store presets with the catalog. But then the only presets available to all catalogs are the ones Adobe has provided. Is there a way to create a “global” preset that will be available in all catalogs when one selects store presets in catalog in the preferences?

I would agree, this implementation appears to be a retrofit and not properly
thought out. The subject is very confusing and has caused me many hours of
frustration while migrating several LR environments to new systems. Most
importantly, there is now a reply and reference to my question that helps

I am trying to buy an episode that is only offered on the Canadian Itunes, I was offered" to change store" in a pop up window in Itunes and when i go to buy it then tells I can't so why waste my time??

Is ther a way to purchase on another country's itunes store with US account? why would there be a pop up making the suggestion to" change store" and then decline the purchase.. how circular, maddening..hope I am not wasting even more time writing this...

It worked under Windows, now I use OS 10.8 and have to apply a preset with a click or Return button but after that the pop-up menu close so I have to open it once again to change a preset. Please help. Thank you!

The filter panel is a shortcut for the content panel and it only effects the content of that window. So if you have a folder it will only see this as a folder and not with its content. (a Stack behaves about the same, being different in only counting the first file in the filter panel criteria but not what is in the stack itself)
You have a view work arounds, first is use menu view / show items from subfolders (this can take some time especially if you have not used caching before on this content) and this builds visible thumbs for all content and that can be used for filtering.
Or use the find command (Edit / find) and inhere specify the source and fill in the criteria include subfolders and this will give you the correct result.
When you create a smart collection the find command also pops up given you the same opportunity to get the results in a collection, but since a collection is only a bunch of aliases referring to the originals you might be a bit careful with editing and deleting.

HT1311 I want to change store back to UK but it won't let me. It keeps saying I have a store credit balance that I have to spend before changing stores. What do I do?

I am in the UK and I wanted to view an app but it said it was only available in US stores and it asked me if I wanted to change stores. So I stupidly chose yes so I could see the app. Terrible mistake. It was a rubbish app and I can't change my store back to the UK store, because of this, I cannot update my apps that aren't from the US store and it really frustrates me.
I've done what apple has said. Log out, sign in, change country/region to selected store but that didn't work. It said:

What do I do?

Oh and I do not want to clear my balance, I have quite a lot left on there.

You can use your remaining store credit by purchasing an item, and paying the extra amount using a credit card, debit card, or if your country's store supports it, your PayPal or Click&Buy account.

2.6 won't store presets with catalog

I have all my presets stored in the same directory along with the catalog. After upgrading to 2.6, the user home directory presets folder is used again and as far as I can tell, the checkbox "store presets with catalog" doesn't have any effect.
has anybody else seen the same problem?

"Store presets with catalog" doesn't work with web galleries

I reinstalled Windows 7 and copied over my LR4 presets and galleries over to the new install. I decided to try ""Store presets with catalog" to keep things simpler next time since I do periodic backups of the catalog folder anyway, so in the future all presets are backed up at the same time as the catalog. I put the presets including a couple web gallery presets in the proper folders. LR4 recognized all presets except for the web gallery presets--when I went to the Web module it didn't list them as options. I then copied those web gallery presets to the default LR4 settings folder (C:\User\XYZ\AppData\Etc-so-on-so-forth) at which point it recognized the presets and listed them in the Web module.
So it seems that LR4 doesn't respect the "Store presets with catalog" setting when looking for web gallery presets. Am I missing something?

If the mouse clicks something on its own then it looks like you have a hardware problem with the trackpad or possibly the battery that is right underneath the trackpad.
I have read that the battery can swell and that would put pressure on the trackpad.

CANNOT CHANGE QUALITY PRESETS

Captured video is 1920x1080p, AVCHD format, using Adobe Premiere pro CS5 and Encore CS5, win 7 computer. Used Adobe dynamic link to get edited source into Encore. It uses quality presets 720x480, 29.97fps. I edit and build in Encore which results in a 4x3 DVD. Encore will not let me change the presets to a widescreen setting. When I select edit quality presets, MPEG2-DVD. & widescreen, OK... Encore just hangs. This is my first experience with Encore in a new turnkey computer. Could it possibly be a faulty software installation?

You might want to check the interprete footage.
Best is not use DL as it reverses the fields for DVD. Export directly from Premiere then import these files into Encore. Make menu and burn to disk.

Cant change store due to credit balance

CAnt change store due to credit balance of $ 0.02 which i have to spend first. Nothing costs that little. How do i get rid of the balance?
