... changes revert ...

Hello everyone,
MacPro 3.1, Intel Quad-Core Xeon, MAC OS X Leopard 10.5.4, 4 GB RAM, CS3.
We create our magazine (Veritas) in CS3; print; and proofread.
We indicate changes; make the changes; save the changes; and print.
Changes to images always work. Changes to text work. We close the document and reopen; print. Upon proofreading after the third printing, 90% or so of the errors that are discovered were the original errors we attempted to fix after the first proofreading. It appears that some changes do not get saved in spite of the fact that the editor is using Ctrl-S every page or so throughout the correction process. Anyone have a similar problem?
It appears that our changes are creating more errors in addition to ignoring many of the fixes we attempt to make.
Workflow at the moment is to save the changes to the same document name and path as the original to avoid version difficulty and confusion. We only have one document with that name and path. We print the document immediately after making the changes and it prints correctly. It appears that the process of closing the document and reopening it at a later time reintroduces the errors that existed before the last changes were made.
Our suspicion is that some setting or glitch causes the opening of the most recent file to revert to an older version in spite of being saved properly. We will commence saving each document with changes to a new path and folder to attempt to avoid the confusion with older versions. In that fashion, if opening the document reverts to an older version, we'll know which version it is and be able to more closely pinpoint the problem.
We're also isolating the document on the MacPro and not storing it on the server as we were doing previously.
For the questions:
1 - Will updating the software to the newest version help eliminate some of the problems? We expect it might.
2 - Will moving to a fresh install of CS4 help eliminate the problem? We're not sure if CS4 is built upon CS3 - in which case whatever we have now might also exist for us in CS4.
3 - I expect to get quite a few comments about not having any idea if it will work without knowing what the problem is in the first place. Not a problem... we're just curious if anyone has run into this problem *OR* if anyone else might have some insight about what settings or functions might cause this sort of problem.
We're at a loss to explain it precisely, duplicate it consistently, or eliminate it permanently. Thanks for any assistance or guidance.
Also, is there a spot somewhere on the Internet where the CS version updates are explained in detail? Perhaps this problem has been detected and solved through an update or patch we're not aware of just yet...
Until that time. . . Earl J.

Hello Leox,
We havent noticed any problems with our present solution, but we have only implemented it with this current issue of our magazine, so the jury is still out.
Our solution is to save it to a new folder (to change the physical path) with a new name (to break the link to older files of the same name). Were using the same version of CS3 without any regard to the version of CS3. All seems fine at the moment, but we have not progressed to the final stages of publication just yet where we scrutinize the layout and make many, many changes.
Well see what comes of it in a month or so.
Thanks for the interest and reminding me to make an entry.
Until that time. . . Earl J.

  • Track info changes revert when updating iTunes Match

I recently subscribed to iTunes Match, and whenever I make changes to tracks listed as "purchased" under "iCloud Status," all the changes revert after I click "update iTunes Match." This is incredibly frustrating, as all my artwork changes, genre changes, artist info changes etc. were all removed with one click. I should note that this does not occur for matched or uploaded tracks. Is this happening to anyone, and if so, how do I fix it?

    Hi,
Many thanks for the suggestions - replies as follows:
    1) I never have this option checked.
    2) This is when sorted by album - it's definitely not connected with my view settings.
    3) Cool - I was probably basing this on previous versions when I think think you could see Soundcheck running (if you couldn't I think you could scroll through the displays in the Now Playing window at the top). There was no apparent disk activity after checking either, but I haven't got arounud to checking file modified timestamps. Still don't understand why Soundcheck was disabled after upgrade though...
    4) This didn't happen with previous versions of iTunes. Have already scoured the web for help & it sounds like a common problem with this release. I built this PC!
    5) DirectX is already running on v9.0c, and I've got the latest drivers for my ATI Radeon 7500 128MB card. I thought it might be DirectX-related as I've been having problems getting Direct3D acceleration enabled. Haven't found any fixes yet relevant to this - have uninstalled all remote control software (including mirror drivers)& made a NetMeeting change which supposedly fixes this but no luck, reinstalled SP2, reinstalled drivers etc. Argh.
    Thanks for your help!

  • ITunes 11 Edited Tags Changing/Reverting

    Hello,
I have an iTunes collection that has been building since 2006. I divide my music into a few categories using the "grouping" tag. Often times when I edit the "grouping" tag I am overwriting either the label or a web address which had been previously added to that tag. I also use Mixed In Key software to analyze my music before adding the music to iTunes. Mixed In Key enters the key of the song into the "comments" tag and the BPM into the "BPM" tag.
I have been doing this for years and lately I have began to notice a problem. On some songs (most songs don't do this), when the song is played iTunes "refreshes" the tag and often times the "grouping" tag changes or reverts back to the info that was previously in the tag, such as the label or web address.
Further, sometimes the key that is written in the "comments" field will change to a long code of digits... something literally like 00007658935482748193.. Always beginning with several zeros.
Is there anything that I can do to have iTunes hard rewrite these fields so that they do not change by themselves?
    Thanks.

Yes, others are seeing this. Something in purchased media (I am pretty sure this has only happened with purchased media) is periodically checking back with the iTunes Store and resetting the tags in the iTunes library file but not in the actual media files (metadata are stored in both).  I haven't seen a truly systematic diagnosis of the issue (I use an old iTunes and have no iTunes account so I can't test anything myself).  There are temporary workarounds but tags will still revert after a time.
Something to try (post by turingtest2) - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26454072#26454072
    If the above doesn't work:
2014 discussion about edited tags for Store purchases reverting to originals - https://discussions.apple.com/message/26077896#26077896 - edited tags are still present in the media file but revert to the originals in the iTunes library file.  Workaround is to refresh tags so media file tags are re-read and used in library file.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/26193185#26193185
https://discussions.apple.com/message/26335620#26335620 - user ended up rebuilding iTunes library from scratch
Send feedback to Apple about this so they know it is an issue they need to investigate:

Don't expect an immediate solution but maybe the next time they update the software it may be resolved.

  • Acrobat losing changes, reverts to a much-earlier saved version

The only place I found someone else with the same problem was in the Reader forum, so I'm going to post this here as well. (Please excuse the duplication.) This has happended twice, with two different docts. I'm working on forms that were created by someone else, I don't know what version of Acrobat. But I'm using v. 8, and I've had no problem with about a dozen similar docts. In fact, the problem occurred when I was using a new doct created from a "save as" version of another doct that never gave me a problem. All this to say, I don't think it's a corrupted doct. After this first happened yesterday, I noticed that the "save" button (and menu option) were sometimes grayed out - even AFTER typing new text or other changes. So I decided to start doing "save as" frequently, which seemed to be working okay. But just now Acrobat crashed, and when I re-opened my doct it was a version from maybe a half hour ago,and I had done a "save as" at least 8 to 10 times since then. Does anyone of anything that could be causing this??

    Hello GailCNYC
I only have Reader so it's not like I got a lot of experience with Acrobat.
What I do have is many years of experience as PC troubleshooter.
Though it in this case is hard trouble-shooting a program I don't have access to using then I can still use general experience to comment on your problems.
It seems to me that both "Reader" and "Acrobat" got some bugs of a multitude of nature.....
But let us revert to your initial post where you wrote :
"But just now Acrobat crashed, and when I re-opened my doct it was a version from maybe a half hour ago,and I had done a "save as" at least 8 to 10 times since then. Does anyone know of anything that could be causing this??"
We might be looking at two problems here.....
    1) The "problem" that when a program crashes it may "revert" to some former state to which the program has saved and were thus "aware of" is something well known and can sometimes be expected from some programs - some programs just looses it all when they crashes....
    2) Your "general save problem" :
Since I don't got Acrobat and haven't worked with it I ofcourse can't offer you the benefit of any personal experiences with the program ,
but I can however ask "an obvious question" and give "an obvious suggestion" that might be of use should you be experiencing a "bug" with the Acrobat program...
My question and suggestion is (and I do not understand why no-one else has got to this before) :
You wrote : "So I decided to start doing "save as" frequently" ,
Yes ! OK ! but when using "save as" did you then use the "old filename" and overwrite your "last save"/"original file" ??? , my guess is that you do/did .   Then if you should be experiencing a bug with the Acrobat program then my suggestion is as follows :
Try saving your edits to a new name EVERY time when using "save as" , like naming them "my-file-save-A-0001" to/through "my-file-save-A-9999" .
If wont fix your eventual Acrobat program bug (and might be considered a "pest" to work with by you) but if it works you at least won't lose the the work you have done and thus loosing your valuable time......
If it works then once in a while you can wipe out as many "back edits" as you like with your file manager plus once in a while "overwrite" the file you "wants your work to end up being" with your latest succesfully saved edit (using technique mentioned) by using your file mangager (in M.S. Windows , if you uses that , then the standard file manager is the "Explorer") .
Sorry ! , can't solve your problem with an eventual internal bug in Acrobat... but you can have my kindly suggested advice....
    Kind regards

  • Outlook 2010 Contact changes revert back to previous version

I have a user on a corporate domain who is using Outlook 2010 to connect to an Exchange 2010 Server.  Everything is working normally except for the user's Contacts; she is able to create new contacts with no issues.  However, when she modifies
an existing contact and saves the changes, the changes will only remain for a short period of time.  Sometime after the changes are made, the contact will revert back to its original information and the changes are lost.  The amount of time between
when the changes are made and the contact reverts is unpredictable and will occur even if Outlook remains open the entire time (in other words, Outlook does NOT have to be closed and re-opened for the incident to occur.)
We have even gone as far as removing the user's Outlook profile and associated files and recreating the profile on the machine.  This has not fixed the issue.
    The specifics for the user:
Windows 7 Professional, Service Pack 1
    Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010
Intel Core i3 Processor with 4GB of memory
Any assistance or ideas would be appreciated!

I will try the OWA test and get back to you on that.
As far as removing and re-adding the account, I've already done that numerous times, going so far as to even removing Outlook and re-installing.  This issue has even followed the user across multiple machines.
The user does have a SmartPhone that she synchronizes with.  I've tried removing the SmartPhone from her account and then making the change with the SmartPhone no longer synching and the issue still occurs.
I will also go back and check the event log to see if there are any notifications.  I don't recall seeing any issues or errors pertaining to this in the Event Logs.  It just seems to be a totally random event that doesn't leave any "fingerprints"
    on the system.

  • Track info changes reverting & wrong order. Soundcheck doesn't rescan.

Looks like I've had less serious probs with iTunes 7 than a lot of people, but there are a few irritating bugs:
    1) On one album in my library, I keep changing the Album Artist, but it keeps changing itself back whenever the tracks are played. For some reason iTunes entered the Album Artist as "Soundtrack". I changed it to the real artist, and when each track is played it reverts back to "Soundtrack". I'm not even allowed to name my own library??
    2) Tracks from the same album are sometimes displayed in the wrong order, eg track 6 will appear before track 1. If I play track 1, track 6 moves down between tracks 1 & 2. Play track 2 & track 6 moves down another place. All tracks names/numbers etc have the same convention & all labelled N of N tracks etc. It also seems to have split some of my albums into different album artists (I've only ever used Artist, not album Artist) so I've had a huge amount of restoration work to do on my library.
    3) After upgrading, the Soundcheck tick disappeared from Preferences. When I re-check it, it doesn't re-scan anything, not even the tracks I added since the upgrade. Sound check doesn't even seem to be mentioned in the help file from what I can remember from when I tried this.
    4) Also having the same probs as other people with jumpy video playback & high CPU usage.
    5) New Cover view for Album covers is a nice touch, but no explanation on how it works (I understand it doesn't automatically add the artwork to the ID3 tags). Also, when I change to Browse by album cover, I just get a useless message saying that it's unable to browse by album cover on this computer. Help file is utterly useless & no solutions on internet. I suspect my DirectX/graphics card setup may be involved somewhere, but how come it's able to display album covers in the other two views?
General consensus seems to be that this software release is a real shocker & although there seems to be a lot of hysteria over it on these forums, I can't believe it was released in this state. Apple need to pull their fingers out.

  • Imessage contact change/revert

    Dear Apple Community,
Does anyone have an answer for this problem?
Had a friend who had iPhone with iOS 5  on it, we used iMessage  as opposed to SMS.  however, that person has since moved on to a non-iOS phone!  yet when i try to send them a message it will only attempt to send as a non-delivered  iMessage.
How can we get the phone to revert a persons contact back to SMS  from  imessage?

Try deleting the contact and reinstalling him.

  • Security Preference Pane Not Allowing Changes(reverts back to old settings)

I do not want my computer to "Log out after 120 minutes of inactivity" so I uncheck the box next to it. After a few minutes the box is rechecked. Even if I lock the pane. If I uncheck it again, close the pane, reopen the pane, it is rechecked. I have deleted the preference file in the library. I am lost as to why this may be happening. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Everything I change in iTunes reverts.

    Something is very, very wrong.
Song names, album names, album art, playlist names, playlist content, etc., etc, etc... When I change them, they revert.
This has been going on for over a week, now. Since Wednesday, I've changed the metadata on certain albums or songs as many as 10 or 12 times. Generally speaking, all changes revert -- sometimes within a few minutes, sometimes an hour or more later.
I'm not a novice. I'm actually the one my friends call to help them fix their Mac and iPhone problems. I have 3 Macs (all running Mountain Lion), an iPhone, and an iPad. This all began when music I'd added to iTunes on my MacBook Pro wasn't showing up on my iPhone. Eventually I turned off iTunes Match on the iPhone, logged out of my account, then logged back in to see if it would populate correctly. It did not.
So I disabled Match on both the iPhone and iPad, and turned to concentrate on the computers.
The new music I added to iTunes is fine, but then I noticed that several albums whose info I'd modified a week ago had reverted to their original state. So, I fixed that, but noticed a few others. So, while watching TV, I started browsing through album view, fixing whatever needed to be fixed. But then, I'd see -- an hour or so later -- that all of those changes had reverted to their original state. For the last few days, I've spent hours changing metadata (while watching TV -- lol), only to have it all revert.
After reading thread after thread, I followed the advice I saw a few times:
Turn off iTunes Match while holding down the Option key, then sign out of my account, then quit iTunes while holding down the Option key, then restart the computer, then fire everything back up. I disabled everything on all 3 Macs, and I'm now working in iTunes on just one of them -- desperately just trying to get the info on that one machine correct, thinking that I can then populate that data over to the other computers and devices.
Except I can't get the data to "stay still," even on this one Mac! This is beyond frustrating.
In one particular case, I have 17 albums by one artist -- most of which came from the CDs in a box set. But I prefer to show albums with their original artwork, so I had split them into the 17 albums. However, I had used an odd naming convention in the Album field, something like this:
    BoxSet - 1|OriginalTitle1
    BoxSet - 2|OriginalTitle2
...and so forth, for all 17 albums. Well, I decided that was cumbersome, so I changed them all to just their original titles, and renumbered everything with Doug's "Albumize" script. Everything was perfect. But 20 minutes later -- they were all back with the long names I had assigned, some time ago.
I've tried all sorts of things I've read in threads, including selecting "Update iTunes Match" immediately following the modification of data. I'm fully aware that we shouldn't have to do that -- it's supposed to be automatic. But I'm desperate. I also realized that most of those had been ripped at 192k, so (upon the advice someone in of another thread), I deleted those files (but not from iTunes Match), then redownloaded them at 256k, then again selected "Update iTunes Match."
I've just been throwing "the kitchen sink" at this problem.
Last night, I'd say about 40-50% of those 17 albums seeme "stable." Today I've replaced the others another several times, and now about 15 of the albums seem stable. But it seems like I could wake up tomorrow and find that a few of them have reverted again.
The same is occurring on individual songs that I've modified -- metadata, artwork, whatever.
I'm losing my mind, here -- and this is just with one computer signed into iTunes Match. I'm afraid of what might happen when I begin connecting my other computers and devices back to the service.
It's as if Match isn't keeping track of which changes are new. It's defaulting to old data, instead of giving priority to new data.
If anyone has any further suggestions, they'd be most welcome. With no one from Apple officially monitoring or replying to these discussions, one wonders if they're even aware of these issues.

Well, that's just it -- the deletions weren't replicating, so they were in fact a major issue.  :-)  Although the metadata within individual songs stabilized, the playlists still had a mind of their own: If I deleted one, it would reappear in less than 5 minutes; if I renamed or modified one, it would revert to its previous state.
So, I ended up doing the "worst-case-scenario" reset.
I encountered a few inconsistencies between that article and what I experienced, as well as some easier ways to do things.
For example, he has a protracted way of forcing iTunes to create a new, temporary library, when all it takes is either renaming the iTunes library or just moving it to the desktop.) I also had to force iTunes to create a new library a total of 3 times, as it seemed to get "stuck" after I'd deleted several thousand tracks and would refuse to allow me to delete any more. Anyway, those steps, in combination with sometimes waiting overnight for things to settle, got me 99% of the way back. (I'm sharing these details for the benefit of other readers.)
Even after completing that process, I still had some stubborn playlists. But after waiting overnight (again), I was finally able to delete those.
BTW, I highly recommend Playlist Manager (donationware; I'm not affiliated), which dramatically sped up the process for me:
    http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/ss.php?sp=playlistmanager
It allowe me to save (export) all of my playlists to a folder in one step.
Finally, after getting my MacBook Pro back to normal, I chose to turn iTunes Match back on -- first on my iPhone. After a few hours, all seemed OK, but a few, stubborn playlists on my MBP simply would not show up on my iPhone, even after jiggering them by changing a name or adding a song. In those cases, I deleted the current copy of the playlist, then reimported it using Playlist Manager -- then, magically, they appeared on the iPhone within a few minutes.
For now, I'm omitting the notes I took while performing the "worst-case-scenario" reset. But if anyone thinks those notes would be helpful, I can post them later.
And thanks again, mracole, for your input!

  • Reverting the changes made to SAP program

    Hi,
One of our developer has made changes to SAP Table using SPAU  and would like to revert back to original settings and also there is an option to reset to original but when we select that it is throwing an error - that changes cannot be reverted back after modifications have been done...
The user has the Transport request No.
Could you pls help what the best that can be done to have the changes reverted back to original..
    Regds,

    Hello Satya,
Go to SE11 and give the table name.Go tochange mode. Then in next screen choose UtilitiesVersionsVersion Management. Then retrieve the version before the latest set of changes.

  • Why and how is iTunes changing the genre?

    Mac OSX 10.9.4
    iTunes 11.3
I have many songs in my iTunes account. I have found that if I modify the genre to my liking, it doesn't stay that way. For some reason after a period of time it changes/reverts to another genre. Here is the funny part. If I click on the info button, the genre that I modified it to, is still listed, however when it is grouped...it is grouped into another genre.
To fix it, I have to go into each genre, find each song incorrectly categorized, hit info, and save (I don't even have to change anything)...and it goes back to where I wanted it.
Why is this? Since my categorization was saved, why and how does it get re-grouped? I thought that it changed whenever I had an update or closed iTunes, but this grouping changes at any given time.
It is getting tiresome having to resave everything.
How can I stop this from happening? If the goal is to allow me to customize the genres, why won't it stick?

Go to iTunes > Preferences > Store and turn off
Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases
Share details about your library with Apple
On any iOS device go to Settings > Music and turn off
    Show All Music
Close and reopen iTunes and/or reset the device and you should see your version of the metadata for each track rather than the original store data.

  • InDesign CS3 5.0.4 Changes to documents not being registered properly

My boss has been complaining about a lot of "mistakes" lately and changes not being made, which is odd because I don't generally make a lot of mistakes. So I started paying very close attention and this is what I have discovered:
Sometimes changes that I make to a document will randomly revert. Sometimes changes don't get saved. The problem is random and not reproducible.
For example: I made a change to an item, and then copied and pasted that item onto another page. The change "sticks" in the new location of the item, but the original somehow, at some random future point, reverts to the pre-change state.
Another example: I moved an item on a page, then saved, then printed, then closed the document. In that order. The printout shows the change. When I opened the document again, the item I moved was back where it was before I moved it.
I am not having this problem in any other application. Just InDesign. Can anyone help me? I don't know what to do, but if it keeps happening, it could get me fired.
My computer is a Mac Pro 2.8GHz Quadcore. OS is 10.5.6.
I have, of course, already tried repairing permissions. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Michael,
I just posted the exact problem to a new forum today ...changes revert... Have you had any problems since the preferences were trashed...? Do you think the Save As technique will work alone without the trashing of the preferences?
Well, you do have some company in your misery...
as if that is any consolation for being fired. . .
We hope it hasn't grown to that extent.
We do a quarterly magazine (Veritas) ... and this problem has plagues us since we've moved to CS3 years ago and just thought it was operator error. Until we started noticing much of the same proofreading errors version after version.
Let me know how you're progressing, and we'll report back about how we move along as well.
Until that time ... Earl J.

  • Ical changes on mac not showing up in iCloud

I have four devices that sync under my iCloud account: 2 iPhones, a macbook pro, and my desktop mac. It seems since we upgraded our phones our contacts and calendars are not syncing correctly, and though I have been an iCloud user for years, I haven't been able to figure out why. When I make changes to my calendar on my devices/computers they are not being reflected in iCloud and then the changes revert back on my devices/computers after a few minutes. Why is this happening and how do I fix it? It is making me nuts.

Use the Find my iPhone icon. There is no separate Find my a Mac icon. All devices show up under Find my iPhone.

  • HT4968 Changes to calendars being overwritten via iCloud

How do I get my calendars to keep the changes I make instead of overwrite/revert them?
I made a bunce of changes to my iCloud calendars on my Mac - such as changing the color, renaming a calendar - and iCloud/iPhone overwrote all the changes and set the names and the color back to what was on my iPhone.
I made changes on my iPhone and Poof! iCloud/Mac overwrote the changes on the iPhone and the colors reverted to what they had been.
I finally went to iCloud.com (which I had never used before) and made the changes there - thinking surely that will work.  I even deleted three old calendars that are either empty or so old I do not care about the contents anymore.  Nope! Once again, the changes reverted
    Help!

My apologies.  I should have added that I had read and followed instructions on all 3 of the troubleshooting pages (Lion, iCloud, and iOS).  I always try to solve the problem before I write.
I fiddled with it more today and at the moment it seems to be working.  It appears that I have to go into Calendar on the iPhone to make any changes that will keep.  That is a bit of a drag since I actually use WeekCal on my phone.  So later today I will probably remove and reinstall the app.
With that being the case I think I know what might have started this cascade of problems, but would take too long to write here.  I will continue to mess with it and probably be able to get it working.  I think I need to turn off icloud and erase the calendars from my iPhone so it sees the Mac as the main source of the calendars again.
    Thanks anyway for your suggestions.

  • In v3.6.13 option steetings not remembered at next start-up, reverts to "as installed", is there a fix?

    1. I customise toolbar to small icons and add printers, tabs & bookmarks. When I next log-in, the changes revert to "as installed", ie they are no longer there.
    2. When bookmarking a site I am not offered the option of putting it in a folder.
I have this problem on two computers, is it a problem with the 3.6.13 revision?

Perhaps your system registry is write-protected or otherwise damaged. Or you may have an incompatible plug-in installed that damages the registry, in which case [http://www.mozilla.com/pl/firefox/?ref=logo Firefox] needs to use factory settings.
