Changing family plan

I am in a family plan of 5 family members which is under my sisters name. Our contract is already up except for the 5 line. My question is i would like to have my own family plan with only 2 lines and keep the same numbers. However my credit is fair, would that interfere with me getting my own family plan? and/or would i have to pay a fee?

You'll need to do an assumption of liability to take over responsibility for paying for those two numbers.  You don't need to sign a contract, but you do need to visit a store or call in with the account owner present so they can authorize transferring the lines to you.  There are no fees for doing the AoL.
Verizon will do a credit check and if your credit does not meet their standards, you may need to put down a deposit.  This is generally refunded after 1 year of on-time payments.

Hello mlazaretti. Vacation time is awesome. (Especially a road trip!) Since you will be going out for two weeks, you never know if having extra data may come in handy. I highly recommend switching to the next tier up so this way you have more data. This way it is only $10.00 more versus $15.00, and you dont have to worry about overages. Then change back at the start of the next billing cycle.
If you need help making this change let us know! Have a safe trip!

  • Have a Friends and Family plan. I have unlimited data and want to keep it. Questions on what I can and can not do with account changes.

    Ok,
So I am on Friends and Family 2000minutes and unlimited Text.
    4 phones.
My phone has Unlimited Data and Hotspot
Other 3 do not have any data.
I am curious what I can do and can't do that will keep keep the plan as is and not force things to share everything.
I am allowed to have 5 phones under this plan. I am curious about adding and deleting phones.
I did try and add a 5th phone. When I tried to activate a 5th phone online it would not let me do it. Tried to get me to change plans.
Here are a few scenarios that I see coming up in the future.
I would like to add a 5th phone. My father has an account and I would like to roll him into my plan instead of his own account. I have already done this once before many years ago with no problem with 2 of the lines that I currently have. Is this possible or is that enough to trigger the move share everything scenario.
Second. how about removing a line from my plan?
One of my numbers is for an 18YO that wants to be more independent and have their own account. Can I down the road either transfer that line and number to its own account which would be share everything (I do understand that). Or can I delete that line from the account without triggering the share everything scenario?
Also it seems when I look online I can change data plans currently three phones are on data block. Can I actually change them to a data plan within the Friends and family or is the Share everything scenario triggered. What about if I change them to a smart phone from their basic/feature phone. I know I can't get unlimited data but can I still get them on my friends and family tiered data plan?
    What is up.
    Thank You

yes to everything; you can add a line (up to 5 total for Family Share), drop a line, upgrade a basic line to a smartphone (and then add a tiered data plan) and stay on your current calling plan ... it may be easier done in your local Corporate Verizon store, though ... just be sure they don't try to switch you to Share Everything if that's not what you want

  • Data & Family Plan Changes

Essentially I'm in search of definitive answers to the upcoming changes to the data paln services provided by Verizon.  I've read a lot of posts in which some show benefit and some do not for what I may require after this paln change.  I'm just looking for round dollar figures and why this may or may not work for me.  Now we ahve three Smart devices (1 Droid with unlimited, 1 iPhone with limited data and 1 Galaxy Tablet with imited data) and two standard phones with no data services.  In keeping things the way they are I would imagine there would be no change to my bill until a renewal is due.  Now if I wanted to change the two plain mobile phones to Smart devices, I guess this is where things get tricky and prices may escalate (don't know for sure but trying to get answers).  If I upgraded the other two to Smart phones, I would then have 5 smart devices on my plan sharing about 1400 voice minutes. I suppsoe I'm looking at a $300-$300+ bill per month based on the addition of data services whether they're the lowest possible per device or not.  Is this true?  Ironically we're also looking to add at least two iPads as well.  Datahog, maybe we are and maybe we're not but it appears that this new structure will hurt quite a bit.  It focuses on increasing revenue from data usage, per device.  It seems to erase the benefit on having a family plan or migrating to one.  Having data services have become a luxury my family is getting accustomed to because it allows you and your children to continue to work or do homework even while away or taking road trips.  Again I'm not speaking as an expert on this matter but am simply trying to see what works best for me and my family.

This all depends on your data usage. if you were to add 2 smartphones AND 2 ipads, your current bill would increase by about $100 i believe (maybe even more). you have a few options.
you could change to the plan and have 5 smartphones and 3 tablets sharing 15gigs of data for $380.
you could use your smartphones as hotspots and wouldn't need to add the 3 tablets to the plan, for $350 ($380-the 3 $10 tablet fees).
if you will use less than 15 gb's it could be cheaper (in the first example, if you shared 10 gb's it would be $330). it really just depends on how much data you use. your devices are capped now (except for the one device with unlimited) so i suspect if you check out your total data usage for the past few months, you may be under 10 gigs. if that's the case, then you'll save $ on the new shared plans.

  • Why is that when I changed my plan to a family plan, it pushed my device upgrade back another full year?

In November of last year, I added my mother to my plan and it changed us to a family plan. Judging by from when I bought my device, I should have an upgrade this March, but since we changed the plan, my device upgrade was pushed back until March 2015? Why is this?

I'm not sure when Verizon discontinued early upgrades at 20 months, but I believe that it may have been in April of 2013. Regardless, if you upgraded at a discount in March of 2013, the EARLIEST your upgrade eligibility date could have been would be November of 2014, NOT early to mid 2014. I can't see ANY way that you would possibly have had an upgrade eligibility date of early to mid 2014. Additionally, when Verizon discontinued early upgrades, it happened all at once so any contracts signed on or after January 1, 2012 were automatically switched to the end of the 2yr contract which was signed. As I said before, this switch was made in April 2013, I believe, so your eligibility date would have been changed at that time, not when you added a new line.
Is it possible that you had mistaken early to mid 2014 when it was originally November of 2014 for your original upgrade date and that was switched to March of 2015 when early upgrades were discontinued in April of 2014? That seems to be a more likely scenario.

  • Will Family Plan change affect existing NE2 credit?

I have an older family plan.  When I attempt to upgrade any of the phones, it is forcing me to select an individual plan.  I assume I just need to change my plan to the current family plan, prior to the phone upgrades.
If I do so before upgrading, will I now lose my existing NE2 credit?
    Thanks,
    Jim

Your primary line should not lose its NE2 credit, but it may impact the value of that credit.  If the new plan costs less, you may now only be eligible for a smaller credit.  You should call into CS to confirm the impact of the changes before you make them.

  • Change from Family Plan to Single Plan

I have a family plan with 2 lines.  Mine is the primary line, but we have about a year and a half left on our contract.  I need to change my plan so that I do not have the family plan anymore, and just keep my own line.  My question is, will I be charged extra fees to drop a line, will my bill go down or stay the same, and will I lose my unlimited data?

Both lines started a new contract about 6 months ago?  (that's how I read we have about a year and a half left on our contract)  Is there someone who is to take over the second line?  If you got two discounted phones 6 months ago, then both lines are under contract.  There will be an ETF on the line you cancel - $350 less ~$60 if it is a smartphone, $175 less ~$30 if it is a basic phone that was purchased initially.
I don't know what your plan is now, or what you might change it to, so I have no idea if the bill will go up or down.   You said you have unlimited data now, so you must have had the plan prior to this recent upgrade.... however, if you change plans (and dropping a line and switching to an individual plan will be a plan change) then it's likely the unlimited data will not carry over to the new plan.
Each line has it's own contract and upgrade eligibility.  Call #UPG on each phone to see when each line is eligible for an upgrade and when the contract ends for that line (or log on to MyVerizon as the account owner and view the information for each line there)
Post back if you have further questions - you really didn't provide enough information to give you a more definite answer.

  • Should I change my family plan?

Bear with me, as I'm really confused as to how to decipher my bill.
Currently, we have a 4 line plan with 1400 minutes and unlimited data, and we've never gone over our minutes. Online for FP 1400 minutes it says $110.00, plus 9.99 for the additional lines.
The breakdown is: main line: $164.xx, line two: 49.xx, line three: 49.xx, line four: 17.xx, for a grand total of 281.xx
Would it somehow be cheaper if we changed our plan to unlimited talk and text? I don't understand why it says online the prices are one thing, but my bill says another. I'd hate to change it and my bill go up HIGHER since it is already higher than what is advertised online.

Do you have any texting bundles added to any lines? There is no Family Share with unlimited data on all lines - if you have 1400 shared minutes on 4 lines, that's $109.98, then it looks like you have unlimited data on 3 lines, for another 89.97 - total about $200.
If you add unlimited texting to the mix, it would increase the bill by about $30 - to $230 and taxes would bring it to about $250 or so. If there are no texting packages, and you are texting, that could account for the extra charges. It would be less to go to unlimited texting if you are currently adding texting packages and/or going over texting allowances.
Without having your bill in front of me to see exactly what's going on, it's hard to say.

  • Can I change my family plan to the month to month plan prior to my contract end date and still use the same phone without an etf

can I change my family plan to the month to month plan prior to my contract end date and still use the same phone without an etf

        Great question dreyfusdad !
I understand it’s always good to be aware of the changes once your contract is completed and I’m happy to help you. You can log into My Verizon to view the contract end date. Tikibar1, thank you for pointing in the right direction; it will automatically continue to bill you as usual, but it will be on a month to month basis. It will keep you on a post paid account; however, if you wanted to transfer to a Prepaid account the process may be different. We’d love the opportunity to review your account for the best plan for you. Please let us know if we can help you with that.

  • Family Plan Line Change

I'm currently on a family plan and I'm looking to get my own account. I only have about 5 months left on the contract for that line, which also has an associated data plan. I was wondering if it would be possible to switch the line to use a non-smartphone and then drop the data plan. This would make the only charge for the phone be $10 for the line. Paying that for the remaining 5 months should be cheaper than paying the ETF.

Yes, you can do that.  But, if you have unlimited data on that line, you will lose it forever once the smartphone is off the line for 14 days.

  • Can i put the iphone in my name and change the family plan?

Hello, i bought an iphone4 from a friend she charged me $130 cause she was getting the evo. I bought it because i wanted to get an iphone anyways. So my question is can i take the phone outta her name and put it into mine and get my on family plan? She told me i could thats the reason i bought it. Thanks for all replies. (:

    Restore...
From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.
There's more to try but let's go a bit at a time.

  • Change from individual Verizon plans to family plan?

Wife and I both have individual Verizon plans.  Just want to see if a family plan makes more sense?

You want to use the Assumption of Liability process to merge two individual accounts into one family plan.

  • Change from one family plan to another?

An ex-girlfriend who is on our family plan has been great about paying her portion of the bill is now thinking about moving out of state. If the people she is moving in with have Verizon can she switch family plans to theirs without penalty?

Simple answer is yes, You will have to agree for her to leave and that family needs to agree to add her. If they do not, she would have to get her own individual plan

  • The change of family plan

I just bought a phone for a two years contact with my family's plan, buy my family want to cancel their plan  this year.
If they cancel their family plan, will my plan been cancelled too?

If the owner of the account closes the account, your line will be cancelled and you will lose your phone number. The owner of the account will also be billed $350 for early termination fee for not fulfilling your recent purchase under contract.
If you want to keep your number, your phone, and continue paying your contractual obligation, you will need to work with the owner of the account to do an assumption of liability transfer to you.

  • 3 Phones on current family plan - Can i Switch a phone(#) without penatly?

    Here is the situation:
My girlfriend pays for the Family Plan and has 3 phones on it (hers, her mom's, and her EX-boyfriend).
I have an individual account which I am currently eligible to update my phone (which i wanted the Droid X), BUT my contract ends in MAY I believe.
Her ex-boyfriend refuses to give the phone back as well as refuses to pay his part of the bill (it being in my gf's name, she is kind of stuck paying his part).  So, my question is:  What is the most economical way for her to deal with it???
I believe she still has quite awhile until the contract ends, so it's NOT worth her paying the bill each month, BUT she also does not want to cancel his phone because of the early termination fee.
Are there any ways for her to get out of this WITHOUT a fee (keeping her other 2 phones on, but getting rid of HIS)?
MY idea was:   taking his phone (and changing the number figuring that way the fee would probably much less - just the cost of a number change, BUT he is not giving the phone back).....
Is there any way Verizon would cancel his phone/# and add mine (guessing i'd have to wait until MAY   ), and not add a fee since it would still be 3 phones?
Any other ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

Your GF AGREED to pay her ex's phone bill for two years. She is stuck with it.Changing numbers or replacing with your phone will not eliminate the responsibilty she agreed to.
Some ideas, her and him could do an assumption of liability if he is willing... I suspect he wont.
What I am going to suggest MAY force him to take the phone onto his own contract..... Suspend the line. She can choose to continue to pay or not. Without paying she can go three months and the contract is extended three months. Bit if he wants his number bad enough he may agree to take the line over when he finds the phone is DOA.
if he refuses to take the line, She needs to decide which is cheaper, paying the monthly bill (which if she suspends and still pays, she can choose a much lower plan) or whether the ETF is cheaper.  But no matter what, short term I would suspend the line so it does not work.
