Changing getImage MTU (receive window)

Hi,
I have an application (snippet below) that receives image, runs fine, but like a dog when the network latency increases.
The issue is the MTU size, as when it is increased (windows reg) the speed dramatically increases. I can see solutions to this issue if I want to send the image over my own sockets, writing a server application as well.
Can I change the MTU/receive window that getImage uses?
URL MyURL = new URL(imgName);
pic=getImage(MyURL );
Tracker.addImage( pic,imgID++);
Tracker.waitForAll();
Thanks
Maddiman

Can I change the MTU/receive window that
getImage uses? No, because getImage() doesn't use an MTU/receive window. It just does I/O via the URL. You can't change the MTU or receive window of a URL either. You can do it for a Socket via Socket.setReceiveBufferSize(), or there are Windows registry tweaks to do it globally. If you're on Windows you should definitely do one or the other because the default of 8k is pathetically small.

  • How do I change the MTU

I recently switched Internet service providers here in the U.K. from Demon to TalkTalk. Since doing so I can't send mail from the TalkTalk account but I can receive mail into it.
The annoying thing is that everything worked fine on my wife's Windows PC when I set her new account up.
TalkTalk have suggested that I need to change the MTU on my Mac from 1500 (which they say is the Mac's default setting) to 1432. On searching Mac Help it explains how to do this in Tiger using an Ethernet connection but for Leopard using Airport it states to go into Mail Help and follow the instructions - not very helpful because there aren't any.
Does anyone know how I can adjust the MTU to 1432? TalkTalk did mention something about using a SUDO Command but didn't know the actual command to use and suggested that I contact Apple support.
Thought I would try you knowledgeable people first in the hope that someone can help.
    Thanks, Mike

Hi, this site http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464 tells you how to change that and other setting, you can also test your internet speed herehttp://www.speedtest.net/ just incase its dear old BT playing about as I have encountered several times before. Hope this helps.

  • After copying a file from NTFS to HFS volume, file size changed when viewing in Windows

    Hi guys,
I have a Mac Air running Mavericks on a HFS partition and Windows 7 on a BOOTCAMP NTFS partition. I have some files that I want to read/write from/to both systems. Since OS X can't write NTFS and Windows can't write HFS either, and I don't want to use any 3rd-party tools/drivers, I have to adopt a "stupid" way: in OS X, I copy those files from NTFS to its HFS partition, make changes, then switch to Windows and sync them back to NTFS.
The problem is, after I copied a file from NTFS to HFS in OS X, it seemed ok. But when I switched to Windows, the very copied file in HFS partition had its size changed (bigger) although I didn't make any changes to it in OS X yet. This happens to almost every file I copied, text and binary. For those text files, I tried to open it with EditPlus in Windows and EditPlus reports the correct size on the status bar.
    How could this happen?

I am not sure if this is what your seeing but...
The same unaltered file on two different volumes might use different amounts of disk space. This is because a 'disk' is divided in to 'blocks' and a block (also historically known as a 'sector') is a certain minimum size. So if disk-1 has a block size of 512 bytes and disk-2 has a block size of 1024 bytes then a file containing just 10 bytes will use up twice as much space on disk-2 as disk-1 even though it is the exact same file.
Beyond that, Macs can add additional information like Spotlight tags, labels, icons, etc. which make a file bigger. If you are modifying a file then presumably that also implies adding additional content e.g. for a Word document more text and this will make it bigger. Also depending on some programs are configured or designed 'deleting' text may only mark it as deleted and not really delete. This can apply to older versions of Word which has a 'Fast Save' feature, new versions have removed this and do a proper delete.
You would have to give more details like what you are doing to the document, what kind of document, and what the two sizes are.
Finally, there is one other potential difference, some systems and manufacturers use 1024 as a unit for measuring file and disk sizes, some use 1000. It will be the same number of bytes in each case but 1000 bytes in one case would exactly equal 1MB, and in the other it would be 0.9765MB.

  • How to change Virtual Memory in Windows 7 with SSD and 16GB RAM

I have SSD Samsung 850Pro with OS Windows 7 and have installed physical RAM 16GB.
    In Adobe Help/Optimize performance/Photoshop written :
" To change Virtual Memory in Windows 7 and Vista, quit all applications and then do the following:
Choose Start > Control Panel, and double-click System.
Choose Advanced System Settings in the Tasks list.
Select the Advanced tab and click Settings in the Performance section.
Select the Advanced tab and click Change.
Deselect Automatically Manage Paging File Size For All Drives.
Click each hard disk letter to show the available space on that drive. Select a hard drive that has three times the amount of your computer’s installed RAM and doesn’t contain a scratch disk.
Select Custom Size, and type the amount of your physical RAM plus 300 MB in the Initial Size box. Type three times the amount of your computer’s installed RAM into the Maximum Size box.
Click Set, and then click OK. Continue to click OK to exit all dialog boxes.
Restart the computer: If you have applications open, select Restart Later, close your applications, then restart Windows. Otherwise, click Restart Now. "
Select Custom Size, and type the amount of your physical RAM plus 300 MB in the Initial Size box. Type three times the amount of your computer’s installed RAM into the Maximum Size box.
    I have 16GB RAM
in the Initial Size box : 16384+300=16684MB
    in the Maximum Size box:16684x3=50052MB
but in the description of SSD written :
" In order to address any potential lack of memory capacity, the Windows operating system automatically generates a block of virtual memory (pagefile.sys) on the C: drive.  For example, a Windows® 7 64-bit system with 4 GB of physical memory would generate 4 GB of virtual memory at boot time.
In the past, before PC Memory (DRAM Modules) were available in high volume, PCs needed to utilize some HDD space to address any memory shortcomings. Today, with PCs featuring 4 GB of memory or more, it is possible to reduce or even eliminate the use of virtual memory.  Additionally, using expanded physical memory, rather than creating virtual memory on the SSD, has performance and reliability advantages for the entire system.  Some applications may require the use of virtual memory. In this case, please consider your specific application requirements before disabling this feature!!! ”..."SET virtual memory in the Initial Size Box :200MB and in the Maximum Size box: 2048MB"
what is the right choice ???
    Please Help

Windows set to default virtual memory : 16348 MB =16GB !
But SSD program Samsung Magician wants virtual memory between in the Initial Size Box :200MB and in the Maximum Size box: 2048MB or 4096MB. If more than 8GB suggests that SSD will work slowly.
Perhaps the description in Adobe execution Help / Optimize / Photoshop is not correct or ?

  • Changes to names in window don't affect file names

I had to reinstall many items on my computer recently, and keep encountering strange little things that did not happen before. Sometimes there are errors on a song title or artist name. In making those changes in the iTunes window in the past, I would see the song show up in a folder where all the music is stored. Now, when I make the change, it only takes place in the iTunes window, and does not affect what is in the folder, meaning I need to go back and make the change there, also. Anyone know what needs to be done to recreate the type of link I had before?

iTunes prefs -> Advanced. Tick *Keep iTunes music folder organized*.
If the songs are not in the iTunes music folder spcified in prefs, they will not be changed.

  • How do you change the MTU size in a Cisco 871?

This 871 is at a remote site and is an ezvpn IPsec client (network extension mode) back to a 3030 headend.
We're having problems with a PC trying to connect through the IPsec tunnel and we think it may be an MTU size problem.
Int F4 is the outside interface.
We are using a virtual-template associated with the crypto ipsec client ezvpn statement.
When I go into any of the 871 interfaces and type 'mtu 1370' it errors out with 'The F4 (or whatever interface) does not allow manual MTU size configuration.
If I type 'ip mtu 1370' on F4 (or vlan1 or virtual-template 1) this is accepted, but when I do a 'show int f 4', it still shows MTU of 1514 - even after a reload.
What is the correct way to set the MTU size in the 871 router - and is it best set on the F4 interface, the vlan, or the virtual-template interface?

    Hi
As per the supporting doc Cisco 871 has one want ethernet interface and 2 switch ports.
I feel you are trying to change the mtu under the switch port which may not be possible.
You can refer the below link for more info..

  • How do you change the mtu size

i recently bought a WRT54G wireless router and i have my desktop directly hooked up (not wireless) and every time i go to play games or surf the net it has some pretty severe lag spikes. i have done some searching and i see something about changing the MTU to a certain amount but i have no idea what that is or how to change it. so if u have any suggestions for me that would be appreciated

connect a computer to the router's port#1 and access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . the default password is admin
on the ui , under the " basic setup " subtab , you have an option to change the MTU size..by default the MTU is disabled...change it to enable and change the MTU size as required...

  • How to change the icon for 'windows group' in Java 1.6 [Windows XP] ?

    Hello,
I was wondering if there is a possibility to change the icon for 'windows group' in Java 1.6...
I'm using Windows XP SP2. Now the windows from my Java 1.6 application are grouped with the standard Sun icon [screen below] on the group.
    http://img382.imageshack.us/img382/8995/iconbl1.png
I would like to change the icon for my own. Is there a way to do that ?
    Please help.

Whichever icon I use for the main frame (I tried few), after grouping the main frame and other sub-frames the icon is changed to standard 'Java Sun' icon as you can see in the screenshot from my first post. The problem occurs only when frames are grouped, when the are separated in the task bar their titles and icons are ok...
So how can I change the icon/title for the group only (for Java 1.6 in Windows XP) ?

Please use slmgr.vbs /ato to activate and update KMS client information in order to update values.
Check your event log (on both this KMSclient, and also on your KMShost):
Look at the events from source = Security-SPP  (SPPSVC)
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee939272.aspx
Also, we can see that there seems to be "tampering" occurring with the files for "Windows Activation Technologies":
    C:\Windows\System32\Wat
You may need to first attempt to re-activate with your KMShost (use slmgr.vbs as advised by the logfile).
If this does not succeed, you may need to perform integrity checks on the WIndows files:
    eg: SFC /scannow
    eg: CheckSUR http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821

  • Disabling special alerts in the "Change Action Center settings" window

    Hi
In Windows 8.1 Update, I noticed that, in the "Change Action Center settings" window in the "Control Panel", the "Microsoft Account", "Windows Activate", "Windows Backup" and "Apps launcher" alerts
can not be disable even with a local account of Administrators type. How come? What is the meaning of these alerts? How do I disable them?
    Thanks
    Bye
    Balubeto

    Hi,
Please know that these options inform you of any issues with them if you have gotten them setup. If you haven't set up them, the option appeared to be grey.
Once they are grey, no such alerts will display about them.

  • I cannot change iTunes library in Windows

I cannot seem to change iTunes libraries in Windows. I have been trying the old shift trick and the dialog box won't appear. I have reinstalled and that had no effect either. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks

  • How do you change the format from Windows to Mac

Does anyone know how to change the format from Windows to Mac? When I first bought my iPod I had windows but now would like to change this. Also is anyone aware why some tracks pause for 2 seconds and then carries on.

Restore the iPod in iTunes for Mac. Restoring will erase and reformat the iPod's hard drive, reload the software with the Mac version and put it back to default settings. Once the restore is complete follow the on screen instructions to name the iPod and automatically sync your songs and videos onto the fresh installation. Press Done and the iPod will appear in iTunes and start to sync. If you want to sync using selected playlists uncheck the box beside the sync automatically instruction and press Done, it will default to manual mode and you can choose whatever setting you like: Restoring iPod to factory settings with iTunes
