Charge & Sync via USB?
Anyone had any success charging AND syncing the phone via the same USB connection? I find it ridiculous that the USB adapter covers the pins required to power the phone yet doesn't seem to charge the phone at all...
The desktop "charging" station seems to have the same problem.
I have the phone plugged into a Powered USB Hub (ie. hub is plugged into wall so should have plenty of power to pass onto devices) if that makes any difference.
I have the sony ericsson s710a. I bough the dcu-11. However, I was also unsuccessfull to charge and sync via this USB.
I remember seeing a sony ericcsson connected via USB at one of the apple stores. I don't know if it charges but I syn the phone via USB. At that time I was interested in this whole thing so I didn't pay to much attention, so I don't remember how that phone was setup.
If anyone knows how to do this, please help. Thank you.

When Using iOs 7.1.2 with mac OSX 10.9.4 mavericks notes are not syncing via USB.
When will this be fixed ? Not interested in iCloud or IMAP solution. it worked before, I can't really
understand why apple would change one of my favorite features. I use the notes feature to
capture quick ideas on the road and having it synched on my computer and my phone was very useful.
Previous blog posts elsewhere indicated this would be fixed in the latest rev of iOS, OSX and iTunes.
But alas after the recent update it's not. Really Annoying.poweruser_art wrote:

Then you won't be syncing your notes anymore.
Contacts and Calendars are the only things they restored.

This is a bit of an odd one and I'd appreciate any help that others can give me.
I've had my blackberry 8900 for about a year and a half now.
Whenever I charge my handset from an empty battery (e.g. this problem isn't a problem when I charge it if there's still some charge left) - either from the main power charger or via USB, I experience problems.
Whenever it's fully charged I unplug the charger and normally at this point it cuts out completely. The screen goes black and cuts out - it doesn't even go through the normal switch-off process. From then, it won't turn on for around 3 - 4 minutes (the red light occasionally appears on the top, although it's fully charged).
When it does turn on, it goes through a soft reset.
This is more of a problem when I charge it via USB but equally affects charging it from the mains as well.
Any ideas? It's fixable. First, charge it for several hours and then WITH the
charger still connected, remove the battery a minute and replace, and
reboot.
If that does not do it, and it continues in the reboot loop
1)
Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
2)
On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line
exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
"c:\program
files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
3)
The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
4) In
the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN".
Click the "Next" button.
5) You should then see a list of
applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and
Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to
life. Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish
completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications
mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop
Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that
you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service
provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's
Operating System for your carrier and device.
http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just
select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry
model from the list and download the latest version. Install this
download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right
path.

How to charge Z1 via USB to PC?
How to charge Z1 via USB to PC?
Thanks peopleIts got to do with the charging power. The original charger for the Z1 outputs 1.5Amps, most lower end car chargers barely output 0.5Amps which is the lowest power rating for USB charging. The ports on yours computer give out 0.5Amps that's why it takes for ever to charge a Z1 through a computer. Even though they all out out the same 5 Volts, the Ampere is different. Try to find a car charger that gives out 1.5Amps and you will be fine

I have a 1st gen touch and while using the cloud I would also like to sync via USB, is this still possible?
The 1G iPod does not support iCloud and you can only sync via USB. You can't sync via wifi or backup to the iCloud.
The 1G can only sync by USB. Just connect the iPod to yur syncing computer and sync. The syncing computer is the computer on which you set the iPod on. -
IPhone 5 contacts local sync via usb doesn't work - updated
Syncing an iPhone 5, AT&T 64GB, with Macbook Air 11" mid-2011, 1.8GHz / 4GB.
OS X 10.10.2; iTunes 12.1.0.50; iOS 8.1.3.
I am trying to sync my contacts from my OS X Contacts App to my iPhone 5 via USB. The contacts do not sync. The contacts are local, "on my mac". I am using a usb cable through iTunes.
The iPhone 5 was just restored by Apple Configurator, set up as new iPhone, and is supervised by the MacBook Air.
I am also synchronizing my local Calendars from the OS X Calendar app; these transfer just fine. This makes me think it is probably not to do with the entire setup of the iPhone, i.e. that it is managed by apple configurator, since some of the sync works correctly.
Under "info" in the iTunes sync dialog, I have selected the "sync contacts" and "all contacts" and "sync calendars" and "all calendars" options.
Interestingly, while the Calendars sync options displays options of "selected calendars" and a list of my calendars available to sync, the Contacts section "selected groups" is grayed out. I have one group in Contacts, and it does not show up by name for "selected groups". Instead, the area where groups should be listed for selection is empty. Perhaps iTunes does not have access to my local contacts? It is not listed under apps with access to my contacts under security and privacy, and it has not requested access to my contacts.
I created a fake contact on the phone and synced it with iTunes. I then turned off contact syncing in iTunes and told it to remove previously synced contacts. The fake contact disappeared. When I turned contact syncing on again, the contact was again pushed to the phone. However, the fake contact did not appear at any point in the OS X Contacts App, and none of my OS X Contacts appeared on my phone -- only the fake contact I had created on my phone and then synced with iTunes.
I also created a (different) fake contact in OS X Contacts. iTunes sync did not transfer this contact (or any others) from OS X Contacts to iPhone.
SUMMARY:
- syncing iPhone 5 via USB with iTunes
- Calendar sync works
- Contacts sync doesn't work
- iTunes appears to have no communication with the OS X Contacts app; in system prefs > security and privacy > privacy > contacts, Pages and Word have access to Contacts, but iTunes is not listed. iTunes Contacts sync "selected groups" does not display my OS X Contacts group names.
- Contacts created on iPhone sync back to iTunes and are restored back to the iPhone if deleted and resynced.
- Contacts created on iPhone do not sync back to OS X Contacts; Contacts in OS X Contacts do not sync to iPhone.
(apologies for premature posting to "Using iPhone"; I accidentally submitted and now can't delete or edit). Here's the resolution: I went to my local Apple store and spoke to the guy. After some discussion it turned out that one of the staff had had a similar problem. He suggested this course and I can report that it seems to work. So, (1) open your system preferences and then the print & fax setting and delete the printer in question (2) disconnect the USB between the printer and the TimeCapsule (3) shut everything down and turn off power to your modem, your TimeCapsule and your whole system (4) power on each item in its normal sequence (5) wait for your iMac to complete its boot-up, (6) re-connect the USB between the printer and the TimeCapsule (7) open system preferences and search for and install the relevant printer (8) try printing.
This is hardly elegant, but it worked. I am told (by the same Apple store) that hitting the "reset" button in the TimeCapsule might also work. If this is intuitive or obvious to anyone else then my compliments to them ...
Cheers

I am able to sync my iPad 2, just not the older generation iPod nano and iPod Touch -
E72 - Calendar not syncing via USB data cable (Out...
PROBLEM:
Syncing the E72-2 Calendar to Outlook over USB Data cable returned synchronization errors.
HISTORY:
Previously was using MfE and Google Calendar as a go-between from Outlook 2003 to my E72. It worked OK for a couple of weeks, but then turned to **** (appointments disappearing from phone, duplicates that couldn't be deleted, sending tons of 'decline' messages to work colleagues from my personal Gmail account...etc. etc.) It is abundantly clear that MfE and Google Calendar were not meant to play together at this point in time.
Next strategy was to use PC Suite to sync with the Outlook calendar directly via cable. This was not successful either. The default Sync profile on the phone only offers Data Bearer of Bluetooth or GPRS, no cable. Sure enough, PC Suite would fail immediately with 0 events synced, saying to check the Idle status of the phone.
SOLUTION that worked for me:
Overview:
- Delete all calendar entries on the phone, even those that are 'stuck'. (Note: you DON'T need to wipe your phone for this - that is Nokia's lazy solution but there are easier ways.)
- Run PC Suite Cleaner from Nokia
- Reinstall PC Suite
- Run PC Suite, connect the phone via USB only when prompted
- Configure the Sync profile on the phone
- Configure the Sync application on the PC
- Sync!
Details:
0a. Clean off all calendar entries from the phone. To get rid of stubborn ones, you can try to sync the phone via bluetooth or internet to an empty Google or other calendar to remove all entries. (I did this by syncing to an empty iCal calendar on my Mac) Alternatively, you can also connect the phone to PC Suite, then open the phone calendar in PC Suite and delete all appointments using the trash can button. (Recurring series will only need to be deleted once.)
0b. Exit PC Suite. Ensure it is not still running in the Taskbar.
1. Run the Nokia PC Suite Cleaner, downloadable from Nokia's support site. Restart when prompted.
2. Re-install PC Suite version 7.1.40.6
3. Run PC Suite before connecting the phone.
3a. Select Cable connection, then connect the phone when prompted.
3b. PC Suite should install the necessary drivers and software (if this is working, you will see several USB device popups in your taskbar.)
4. On the phone, go to Ctrl Panel --> Phone --> Sync.
4a. If you have been messing around with MfE or other sync methods, delete those extraneous sync profiles from the phone. Go to "Change Active Profile" - if you see anything besides 'PC Suite', select it and then choose 'Delete' from the Options menu.
4b. After any extra Sync profiles are gone, the phone will default back to 'PC Suite.' Ensure the PIM data you wish to sync (Calendar, etc.) is selected with a red X.
4c. It does not seem to matter what you select for Data Bearer - I am using Bluetooth and that's working even though the target PC does not have it.
4d. 'Allow sync requests' should be set to 'Automatically accept'
4e. For 'Synchronization type' select the value that works for you. ('To phone only')
5. Run the Sync application in PC Suite.
5b. Ensure the phone has not automatically locked itself.
5c. Click the 'Sync' button in the PC Sync app.
5d. You should see Connecting....Waiting....Reading.....etc. while the content is syncing.
5e. If it stops after Waiting and returns a communication error, you may need to try the above steps again, and/or do a clean install on your phone. :-(
Hope this helps someone out there. Note that this is mostly from memory, so if I inadvertently skipped any steps or if anything needs further clarification, please respond to this thread to help future readers.Herve55 I can confirm that the DC-6 (remember to buy the the one with USB-micro connection) works.
However the only reason for me wanting to use the supplied USB to USB-micro cable in the car (with 3rd party cigarette adapter) was to first, get rid of that annoying spiral cord and second to have the data cable with me at all times.
Sad to say that I´eve by now definitely tried all possible solutions for the data cable "CA-101" without any luck.
My N97 witch I was very satisfied with at start started to burn battery, reboot, loose memory, become sluggish and then after 8 months of aggravation i sent it on a flyer in the wall.
I have now after 15 years changed brand.
Conclusively the guys at Nokia seems to carry to many models for any possibility of making further great phones! in other words they´v gone sloppy. -
BB10 Won't Sync via USB with iCal and Contact in Mac OS 10.8
I was able to transfer all of my data from my Torch to my new Z10 using Blackberry Link, but not it will not let me sync my contacts and iCal via USB cable. They "sync to device" tab is greyed out on the menu bar.
In addtion, in spite of the fact that I've done several back-ups of my phone in Blackberry Link, when I plug my phone into my Mac, it indicates that it has never been backed up.
Suggestions?I have the same issue and from what I've been able to find online, it appears that Blackberry Link does not allow you to sync contacts, calendar and reminders. Check out this link. https://www.blackberry.com/lms/item/0aa163b0-72e4-7055-f632-baf90ad15bca
If this is actually the case this is a major blunder. Everything else about the phone I absolutely LOVE! -
700p, 755p won't sync via USB
My 700p stopped being able to sync and tether via the USB cable. Verizon and I decided the connector had died, so I got a replacement 755p. But that won't sync, either.
After an hour on the phone with Verizon tech support, the only thing we were able to figure out is that both WILL sync via Bluetooth. (This introduces new problems, though.)
I've tried:
New cable
Switching USB ports
Repairing permissions in Disk Utility
Reinstalling Palm Desktop (4.2.1 w/OS 10.5.8)
I'm desperate. Any ideas? After three and a half weeks without an Internet connection, I finally figured out that Best Buy was selling a defective cable. I had tried two. Then I tried a different brand, which worked. Turns out others had had the same problem with the Best Buy cable. It did not work as advertised.

Charging iPhone via USB vs. FireWire
My iPhone charges fine when plugged into my computer via USB cable. However, it doesn't seem to charge when plugged in using the iPhone-to-Firewire cable. Is there a reason for this or do I have a faulty cable? Thanks for any help.

The iPhone has different power requirements for changing that Firewire does not use. -
I can't do anything between the computer and the iPod... cannot sync purchases, music, anything... I tried resetting my iPod, which was a HUGE mistake because now, none of my music is on it and I can't sync the thousands of songs I've purchased to it... all I am able to use it for is to download directly to the iPod via WiFi. (Which I do, but mostly for apps... I don't want to waste money duplicating music purchases.) I've tried the troubleshooting thru iTunes and nothing has helped. Please help!

How do I add a contact / recipient to an SMS on iPhone 5s? It's easy on Android, but I've not sussed it on the iPhone - can't create a group etc. Tried to create a group on Mac, but it either doesn't exist or won't sync to the phone with usb, nor will other contact details created on Mac. I'd rather not use the cloud. I'm sure contacts used to sync to my old iPod touch in Snow Leopard.
Is it not more logical to have the phone as the main source of this sort of data? We're more likely to update on a device we carry all the time surely?
Please advise. Thank youHey Cornish wrinkly,

I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the Apple software on my computer but that didn't help whatsoever. Both devices are fully charged, and I have tried different cables and USB ports, but to no avail. When I check for the driver software in my Device Manager (in various categories, but most importantly, the Universal Serial Bus controllers), it doesn't appear, so I figure that might be the basis of the problem. Is there somewhere that I can download the driver since it's not automatically installing when I plug in the iPods?
Do the USB ports work for for other devices?
