Charged international phone usage for Whatsapp calls

I have consistently used Whatsapp for years and love it. However, something very odd has happened in the last two months and I got a
call from my provider (Verizon) saying there have been an unusually high
frequency of international calls made by my phone and I had racked up $1200
in charges. I figured it was fraud but then checked my usage online and all calls
(to two regular numbers I call in Europe) show up as regular
international calls. This began at the beginning of September (2014) and I
can't understand what is happening. The rate for these calls is about $1.29/min.
I live in the US and have many contacts in Europe, so like many other people, I have great use for Whatsapp. I was
especially excited back in the spring of this year when they announced free
calling, and I used it a lot. It doesn't make sense to me why I was
successfully making calls for free for the first few months, and then all
of a sudden in September, they've been going out as if I was calling
internationally through my carrier. There was no mistake on my part as I haven't changed any of my methods since the beginning of using Whatsapp calling.
Has anybody else had this experience? Is there some setting that got switched in a new iOS update that makes their calls just run normally? (I know, highly unlikely but I don't know what else could have happened).
Thank you very much for any help!

I sent an email to whatsup. They told me the call icon is only for convinience but that this app is for texting only. I replied to their email asking gor assistance With the phone bill but they never replied. AT&T is my cell provider so I contacted them. They helped me by adding retroactively an international plan that cost $30.00 so Inwould not have to pay for the full bill. I now have terminated that additional service just did it for a month. AT&T explained to me whatsup is causibg a lot of problems by not explaining this feature up front. I am do glad I have AT&T since it is one of the few american companies that still lrovide awesome chstomer service. Goid luck to you if you have a different cell provider. I have dince deleted shatsup which is own by Facebook    they have no accountability!!!!

  • How do I get rid of the number next to the "phone" icon for missed calls on iPhone 4?

I realize that this number is telling me the number of missed calls and/or voicemails.   However, the number remains on the main screen after I have looked at the missed call (opened "phone" and then "missed").  I can only figure out how to get it to go away when I call the number of the missed call from the missed call menu, which I don't always want to do.  How can I make the number go away without calling the number for the call that I missed? It's probably a silly question but thanks for helping!

I have same issue I dont want to call it and why should I have to go to Voicemail when there is no voicemail?? My screen did go dark and when I relit it it went away...very weird???

  • I purchased new iPhone 5 but phone shows cellular usage for lifetime calls 5 days 11 hours. How can this be?

I purchased a new iPhone 5 and it shows 5 days 11 hours of cellular lifetime call time. I suspect someone had used this phone prior to selling it. Can someone tell me if I am correct. Shouldn't it show only the time that I have logged in calls since purchasing it?

I synced it with my iTunes account if that is how you restore from a backup. But my old phone shows 7 days and 2 hours call time and my new phone shows 5 days 11 hours.

  • Huge phone bill for one call!

    Hi there,
I am writing on behalf of my neighbour, who is having an issue with a recent (talktalk) phone bill.
The last phone bill that came through showed up as charging around £80 for a single call, which had apparently lasted hours. I suspect that the problem is that the phone reciever (his end) was not properly replaced, even though the reciever at the other end was.
Does anybody have any advice for disputing this charge? Is there any way of proving that the person at the other end had put the phone down?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi. Your neighbour might get more assistance in the TALK TALK forums. I do remember that they used to put a sqeal on the line if you did not hang up properly, don't know whether they still do this.

How do I block harassment from one nuisance computerized advertising company?

Dealing with harrassment can be frustrating, DickA! I can help you stop these calls. Just go to My Verizon, and use the "block calls & messages" feature to block this number for free for 90 days! http://bit.ly/xB4iTc

  • Overbilled for a year and a half with no satisfaction, now charged new phones to charge account with the promise to switch it over immediately.

We started out as having a single plan and later changed to shared family.  When we did this we ordered phones for each person; the single plan user and 3 more.  When I received the phones, I couldn't get the phones set up.  I called customer service and a nice guy spent over 2 hours getting everything worked out.  However, they gave us 4 new phone numbers when I had told them I only needed three, the other would remain the same.  So, this "nice guy" said he would change the extra phone number to a test device and I wouldn't be charged.  Unfortunately I don't do the bills and only recently realized that I have been charged since day 1. That would be 20 months at 9.95!  I have several times and was basically told two things, depending on the person.  One person said that I needed to talk to such and such a person at a certain phone number.  I got nowhere.  The last time I called I received a very snide, sarcastic guy who actually laughed at me on the phone because I couldn't get anything done about the situation.  He then just kept reading his script.   I will be contacting the appropriate people on this fraudulent situation.  I will not take this criminal bahavior anymore. On the bright side, the longer it takes them to refund my money, the better my compensation.
Now my latest ordeal with Verizon.  I just ordered 4 new phones,  crazy, I know!  It took my two entire days trying to get these phones ordered.  Finally, another nice guy helped me and after many attempts, he made the suggestion of trying a different card.  I told him that my other card didn't have enough credit available for all the phones.  So, he suggested we try ordering two and see if the problem was with my initial card. He told me that the card doesn't go through immediately and he could change it back to the first card right away. I asked him just before finishing the chat if I needed to take care of anything to change the charge and he said,  "I told you I would take care of that".  Guess what, the charge was never changed .  I've made one call so far and have not gotten anywhere.  Perhaps I'll just add it onto my first case and charge them for all of it at once.

<< Comment removed >> Yes, I educated myself on the cost of changing providers before I made the switch.  Verizon bills all my bills one month in advance, not only on the first bill, and I was expecting the pro-rating, and agree that is not being overbilled.  I know that applies to new lines as well, and am aware of the $35 data activation fee that is charged, again not overbilling.  Your assumptions about my situation are incorrect.  My overbilling was as follows:
    1) VZ billed me for a suspension of service on a line when I exchanged a tablet I purchased from a VZ store.  They even agreed that this was overbilling and refunded the charges (~$17).
    2) VZ then set up a new line without my agreement for the new tablet instead of connecting it to the existing line.  I was charged an additional activation fee ($35) for the second line.  The tablet should have been connected to the existing line, which was unused, and for which I had already paid the $35 activation fee, this is duplicate (over) billing.
    3) I contacted VZ before traveling to CAN and asked the agent to place me on a plan (prior to my trip) that would cover my phone and data usage.  We agreed on the US/CAN coverage and the Global Data plan.  The switch was not made correctly and I ended up only on the Global Data plan.  I received a text message upon arriving in CAN, notifying me of additional charges that might apply to calls since I was out of my coverage area.  I called VZ immediately and was again told that my plan was active, that the message was a mistake and that I should ignore it.  The bill for that period had just under $250 of usage charges related exclusively to calls in CAN instead of the $19.95 increase to my monthly plan.  Again, this is incorrect (over) billing.
    4) As soon as I saw the bill referenced in #3, I called VZ and began working with (very nice) individuals in customer service.  On three separate calls I was told that they could see the reference to changing my plan (in the notes) and would provide a refund within 48 hours.  This never happened.  On the third call I spoke with a supervisor who directed me to partially pay my bill based on a calculation of the refund he was submitting (again, to go through in 48 hours).  I had the supervisor send me an email so I had evidence of his direction.  After partially paying the bill, I was charged a late fee for not paying my bill in full ($5), received a message that my services might be terminated, and my next bill included ~$35 in usage fees for calls to CAN instead of $19.95 for the updated plan.
I called customer service yesterday, was again told that the refund was imminent, placed on hold so the individual could further review my bill, and after about 15 minutes the phone was picked up by a different person who had no background on my situation, which has happened on several of my calls to customer service. It was at that point that I told them I was done, leaving VZ, and was transferred to the Customer Retention specialist.  After an hour and a half on the phone, I received a partial refund (just over $200), but am still owed about $70 before tax and other adjustments.
I can't imagine that any one could defend this as (1) proper billing, (2) decent customer service.  I am totally happy paying my bills in full, paying the associated charges, etc., but I do not want to have to spend 4-6 hours per billing cycle on the phone with customer service trying to get my bills corrected.  I also know it will probably cost me $1,500-2,000 to switch back to AT&T, plus the inconvenience.  I am willing to make the switch if any further issues come up, as I simply can't spend time dealing with this every month.

You aren't addressing Apple here. This is a user-to-user tech support site.  Apple doesn't participate here. We are all iPhone users like yourself
There is nothing whatsoever misleading about how FactTime is described by Apple.  It works EXACTY as stated. If you are mislead, it's due to your inadequate reading comprehension or lack of effort reading what Apple actually said.
There is no "international" standard for cell phone video calling.  Most other phones use proprietary systems or 3rd party apps such as Skype (which also works on iPhones).  FaceTime is on WiFi internet connections only because all carriers have refused to allow it on their cell networks due to the huge number of iPhones.  The FaceTime standard is open source and other manufacturers are free to implement it, but have refused so far.

  • Satellite A305-S6872 internal modem configuration for call waiting

Can someone point me to instructions for configuring the internal modem (suppose to be V.92) to work with call waiting on a Satellite A305-S6872?  I would like to be able to hear the phone ring when a call comes in when I am connected to my ISP so I can decide if I want to take the call.  Currently, I can configure the settings on my ISP to work with call waiting but I cannot hear the phone ring when I get a call.  My ISP tells me I have to configure the modem in the laptop.
    Thanks.

Won't hurt to reinstall the driver. There are three listed for your model. The first two have the same version and release date, but the file size is different. Try them all.

  • HT201232 I have called the support number given, was on hold for more than an hour and received quite unpleasant phone bill for trying to sort out AppStore mistake! Is there any other options of getting "support" apart from calling these telephone numbers

My account was charged for buying app that I actually didn't buy. I was trying to sort out these mistake by calling the support number given (Russia). There was no other options like sending an email or calling some other number. I was on hold for one hour and a half! Is that normal for Apple support??? So apart from being charged for the app I haven't given my permission to buy, I also got a phone bill for calling the only support number available. Where can I submit my complain and what could be done about it?
    Thank you,
    Natalia

There is an email way to do this. See here: https://getsupport.apple.com/ContactInfo.action
The Russian Federation is one of the countries listed under Other.

  • Checking recipient is not charged for my call

Hello, I'm in Australia and I'm using my prepaid Skype credit to call someone on a landline in France.  When she answers the phone it asks, "Would you like to accept a call from this person?" My balance goes down at  reasonable rate so I know I'm being charged for the call, but I just want to check she is not being charged at a high rate for receiving the call.  Could you please advise?  Thanks!

    Hello
It's unlikely that the recipient world be charged for receiving a landline call but they should check with their carrier to make certain.

is the Charge missing a hole for cell phone straps? (yes, as in Hello Kitty cell phone straps)
my previous phone, the Fascinate, had a hole for this purpose, but for some reason I cannot
    find it on the Charge.
The VZW rep told me that the Charge is a phone made for Americans in the US market, so
Samsung left out the hole.... seriously?

  • Unable to select 'Use Phone for audio calls' on Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for Windows

    Hi,
I have recently deployed Cisco Presence Server and integrated with Call Manager 9.1.2. I have successfully deplyed 6700 users on IM & Presence. Some of the users requested for Cisco Jabber with phone control.
I have added CFS client on the Call Manager and associated it with the same extension numbers from their desk phones. I am currently able to make audio and video calls for these specific users. I am currently using Cisco Jabber Client 9.6 for windows. I have users both daisy chained to their desk phones and who are not. Can you please confirm if it does make any difference.
    Problem Faced -
I am not able to use to option use phone for audio calls. The phone comes down with a cross sign on it. At the same time Cisco Jabber by default uses the client and it works as expected.
Can you please let me know if any of you guys have faced a similar issue.
Please let me know if you need any information regading the configuration used.
Looking forward for your valuable comments.
    Thank you.
