Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) Approval+CapOne QS1 CLI!

I am totally and completely in shock right now! TL;DR is at the bottom of the post! I'm only posting my credit life story (LOL) to show that it is completely possible to get in with a prime card really fast from a blank file (contrary to what I had originally believed before reading this forum). First, I would like to thank everyone here on the MyFICO forums, as I have read through SO many forum threads (even though I haven't posted much - haha). The advice has been invaluable! Also of note, I am just your regular Joe as far as income and things like that (Actually, a bit low in that regard - I'm doing well for someone my age, though), so no special treatment or anything...Maybe just pure luck in my case? Background: Started my credit journey with a completely blank credit file in February 2015 (I am 21). Was approved for Discover IT ($1250.00 SL) and CapitalOne QuickSilver One ($300.00 SL) - was also added as an AU on $500.00 Chase Freedom and applied for a card through Fifth Third Bank and Bank of America (also applied for Chase Freedom as my very first app before being added as the AU later on my SO's Freedom card). All three of those apps were denied due to no credit history (so something like 3 TU and 4 EQ inquires - IDK about EX). Chase told me to get some cards and apply again in about a year (they were nice about it, though!). I was not happy with Fifth Third's inflexibility (in retrospect, I might have been acting a bit spoiled, but I was annoyed that Fifth Third knew my account history and all they could offer was a secured card with nothing going for it), so I switched my accounts to Chase. Fast forward to the last week of July - I had been checking the luv button for Discover sporadically since I received that card, but it always wanted an HP, so I never went through with it. Also, I was enrolled in the Credit Steps program with CapOne, so I didn't think to look for a CLI until that was up (sixth statement would have early August). On July 28th, my FICO score updated on Discover's website, and it showed me having a 733 TU (pretty much spot on with Credit Karma). I went ahead and pressed the luv buttons on Discover and CapOne, and got a $3000.00 CLI for Discover and $500.00 for CapOne - both with just SPs (I also received an additional $500.00 CLI for CapOne for the Credit Steps program when my sixth statement cut earlier this month). I checked Chase's prequal site and had prequals for Freedom and Slate w/ 22.99% APRs (ewwwww). I had made my mind up to wait until early 2016 before applying for anything else... Over the past week, Chase's prequal site updated and showed me with 18.99% APR for Freedom (the midtier rate for that card) and popped up with Slate and CSP as well - I had zero clue what would have changed for the site to give me better rates and a new offer...And I was skeptical (although I know that Chase's prequals are pretty solid). I waited over the past week to see if CK would update to show if any credit report would show my higher limits - Just today, CapOne updated EQ, but no Discover CLI was being reported yet. I went into a Chase branch a few days ago and the banker told me that I had prequals for Slate, CSP, and UnitedMileagePlus Club ($450 AF - NO THANK YOU) and United MileagePlus Explorer...Weird thing was that the banker said that no Freedom prequal was showing... I didn't apply for anything and went home. I really want the CSP+Freedom combo, so after doing research on MyFICO for hours and pacing back and forth, I decided to just take the plunge and apply for CSP now. I closed my eyes waiting for the application page to submit - haha...And it came back with an instant approval for $7500.00! I am so happy!!! I was expecting the further review message if not a complete denial! I am debating whether to apply for Freedom now or not...I am thinking that I will wait for the Freedom $200 bonus to come back (it appears that they do it in May and November) and will apply for it then, just because Chase is not guaranteed to group HPs together for multiple apps. I have a few observations: 1) As has been established, Chase's prequals are apparently rock solid for the most part2) While I do have my bank accounts with Chase, I am just a regular Joe - I've got a few thousand in checking and savings, but no deep relationships such as investments or anything. I was always under the impression that CSP was for wealthier people (I've seen some peoples' incomes posted on these forums, and I'm like at most of them) - apparently income isn't as big a deal as I thought.3) My highest credit line was $4250.00, but from what I can tell, it hasn't reported, so I had a $1300.00 (to EQ only, otherwise only $300.00) and a $1250.00 credit line. I was reading that Chase does not like to be the guinea pig in offering higher limits, and that you generally need a card with at least a $5k limit (or stellar credit history) - I have neither, and my AAoA is only the 6 months or so, so IDK if I'm just a fluke or if Chase was just feeling the love. Not only that, but they gave me more than the minimum SL for the card! I thought that it would take me a year or more to get in as a primary cardholder with Chase (they told me to get some cards and apply in a year when I talked to them about my denied Freedom app earlier this year)...and even then, I was thinking that just Freedom would be a good start. Now I've got three fantastic cards just six months after starting my credit journey! Next steps are to get CLIs and to maybe have the QS1 PC'd to a QS w/ no AF. TL;DR: Approved for Chase Sapphire Preferred with a $7500.00 SL - also received two $500.00 CLIs for CapitalOne QuickSilver One (one from Credit Steps). All of this on top of the $3000.00 CLI received for Discover IT less than a month ago! Note that my file is thin (AAoA is just 6 months), and I was starting from a blank file. I'm over the moon!

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! @Monoglot: I was initially apprehensive about the AF for CSP, and I wondered if I should wait. The thing is that I'm going to be taking a big vacation within the next month, and I'm going to start transitioning more of my monthly spending over to credit cards anyway, ao hopefully I'll end up ahead. Worst case scenario,  I can always try to PC to Freedom if I feel like it's not worth it.  As far as the Discover CLI - yes, the SP CLI went through right away once I noticed that my FICO score had updated on their site. It pulled the score from July 20th - I didn't notice the update until the 28th, but once I did, it was like magic! Up until that point, Discover had always wanted an HP. Also, I hadn't really put much spending on Discover (about $2k from Feb-July), but they still took me from $1250.00 to $4250.00.  Now I've just gotta wait for Freedom. I'm hoping that they'll have the $200 promotion closer to the end of the year. If I knew that Chase would group HPs for multiple apps, I'd go for it, but since it's hit and miss with them, I guess I'll wait. I'm just trying to get in with CSP and Freedom before I hit my 5 credit/24 month mark.

Finally closed on mortgage on Wednesday so my lockdown on my credit report is finally over. For those that had read my plan over in CC as it's developed, my spree got cut short hah!  I had decided that if I broke 20K on my CSP app, that I wasn't going to bother with the Cap 1 two-step, or if I got 10K which I was afraid of, then would've gone full monty Venture + QS combo.  So went down to the bank, and Chase did not disappoint .  Had one funny moment with the Chase banker, looked at me and asked "Not closing Freedom correct?" to which I replied, "would you EVER let one of your customers do that when applying for the CSP?" and we both started laughing as did the other banker who I also knew that was chatting as well. Side note: saw one person earlier suggest that Chase had a new black card for Chase Private Clients: they do, saw it on display, Chase Sapphire Preferred, black, with Chase Private Client label on it.  Go go marketing! Where: In branchPre-approval: YupLimit: $22,000APR: 15.99%, though looking at the online verbiage that may the only offered rate?  Didn't see a range anymoreHighest prior limit: 9KFICO: Not given but EX 739 FICO 8 currently.Pulled: ExperianPrior relationship: yup, Freedom, Ink, recent mortgage, non-trivial deposits over time. Tickled pink by the approval, mailed off the JCB Makurai app (unicorn flier application), also went through the Penfed process applied for a PLOC, got said PLOC, asked for 20K, got 20K instant approval. Cheerio!  Kinda done with my portfolio until I can get a couple balance carrying cards or unless some absurd gotta have card comes up other than the once a year unicorn application if I don't get it this time which I might.

Yeah with mortgage done it's time to focus on some other things  Actually my condo has a doggy run of all things around the back side between it and the hotel next door hah!  But I'm a medium to big dog type of dude, and there's just not enough room in the condo nor is there a yard, so the dog will have to wait... wife and then kids, yeah, do need to start figuring that out sooner rather than later and the condo while not "show offy" like the original try, will do just fine for dating purposes here in LA. That plan was actually part of my thought process regarding CSP, it's a good dating card for restaurants and weekend get aways in addition to the fact I'm probably travelling more either for current gig if they can manage to keep me, or near future one.   Congrats on a very nice approval!  Also congrats on closing on those house.  Good restraint on holding back on the Cap QS/Venture as I don't know if I would of been able to after the 22k approval.. Let that bad boy post to the reports then go for the QS/Venture if so choose in the future.Don't really need em really; I have a better default spender already, and CSP is legitimately a better card than the Venture anyway in my estimation (if one already has a default 2% card), not even including the fact I'm already pregant with UR with both a Freedom and an Ink. Really the only thing I needed the 20K tradeline for was to put on my reports for a couple of low APR cards later from some typical non-trivial line givers / matchers as pretty much all of my cards are rewards cards and other than default spenders, I just don't spend heavily enough to make use of big lines on them.

  • CSP Approval!

So I app'd for the CSP last night at about 12:30A and was given the 7-10 message and a 30 day email. This made me nervous. Called the credit department this morning and went through address/income verification and after about 10 agonizing minutes of being placed on hold, was asked by the credit analyst "You have a Navy Federal card with a credit limit of 22k, do you think you would need that much for your Sapphire Preferred card?" I was kinda taken aback.. I've never been asked how much credit I wanted before when applying. I stumbled trying to figure out if she thought my high balance was too high, or if I wanted a high limit. I told her I loved the Freedom, and would like to use the CSP as my primary card so if they could match my NFCU card, that would be great. She said "OK, I've approved you for $25,000 (!!!!!!) and if you would like your limit to be higher on your Freedom card you can always transfer some of that credit limit over for use with the Freedom."  I almost crashed my car after she said that! LOL She transferred me to a final verification department, the guy asked me a few more questions and said "Congratulations, and welcome again to the Chase family. Your card will be mailed out in 2 to 3 weeks, is there anything else you need?" I can't believe I was just approved for a $25K CSP card!

  • Chase Freedom Card Approved and BofA CLI

Hey everybody, Saturday night I hit the apply button for Chase Freedom (also Hyatt, but I don't think that app went through), and I hit the luv button on BofA. Neither was instant and I was quite nervous about it. Apparently both saw an alert I had placed (Chase apparently bypassed it for my Slate last month). Called Fraud dept for Chase today, answered a few questions and the lady approved, didn't tell me CL or APR though. She said she can send out my card in 2 business days.  Then I got on the horn with BofA. I told them I had submitted CLI request online but got no response. Due to alert and my card not reporting to TU, she had to pull EX after I answered some questions (grrr on the double pull). She saw I requested a $10k limit on my currently $1k card. I also asked for APR reduction. She crunched her numbers and said she would be happy to raise my CL to $7.5k, but unfortunately there wasn't a better APR offer for me. She said sometimes it due to the original terms of the card and sometimes it's necessary for a whole new application to correct that. I told her I'd accept the CLI, but would have to think about applying for a new card. I'll let my reports age a little before I do. Should I hold off on Hyatt and another BofA card at the moment? My util is a little higher than id like it to be, but I'd want to take the AAoA hit at once. Anyway, I'm glad these two were approved.

Congrats Cain! Chase should be able to tell you the limit or if you're existing customer look for the acct online.I saw the numbers, was a bit disappointed, but I got the card and in time to qualify for the signup no less. I'll worry about the rest later. So I have Slate and Freedom now with chase after being shutout for a while, I will tidy up the reports a bit more before going for a co-branded card to sorta replace my HHonors AmEx. I was leaning Hyatt, but now I'm seeing IHG might be good one too. Hehehe

  • Chase CSP APPROVED !!!

So I appd for a Chase Slate about a month ago and was instantly approved w/5500.CL. I really wanted a CSP too, but was too nervous to do a back to back app. Welp my Slate arrived and I activated it and than applied for CSP on June 18th. Instantly got the "we need to review your application, if approved, you'll receive your card in 7 - 10 days, blah, blah, blah". So for the last ten day's, I called the Chase status line but kept receiving the "you have two apps in the last thirty days. We are reviewing your application. You will hear back from us within two weeks". So thanks to Booboo71 on here and HER expertise in Chase applications, she told me: "two weeks message is an approval. They just need verification. Call them." So I just called, and they asked several identity questions from my CR's, such as: "what previous address did you live at ?? Current and previous employer's ?? Installment loan with what lender and your monthly payment ??"
Afterwards she put me on hold for a minute and came back and said " Congratulations. Your CSP is approved with a 15K CL". So thank's to Booboo71's input and prodding, I've got a new CSP on the way. I was really happy with the CL. While I was just approved with Cap One for a 20K CL Venture, this was not yet reporting on any CR's. My highest CL showing was my Chase Slate approval from a month ago for 5500. So starting off with 15K on CSP was awesome. I have not had any alerts for a second HP from Chase yet either. The only Chase HP was for my Slate app almost a month ago. Tomorrow I'll definitely know if I got a 2 for 1 HP or if Chase just pulled my credit again while on the phone with the rep a few minutes ago.

  • CapOne Platinum CLI after 3rd statement

Woohoo!  A month or so ago I hit the luv button and went from $500 to $1500 right at the three month mark on my QS1 card and today the third statement cut on my Platinum card and I hit the luv button and voila!  Same thing!  I'm so happy, and can't wait to see what increase I'll get on each account when they are out of Credit Steps.   Thank you to everyone on this forum for all of the great advice. 6 months ago I wouldn't even have had the courage to apply with CapOne (after burning them a few years ago), let alone know to hit that button right at three months for a CLI.  It feels so good to be on the "good" side of credit after so long.  Thank you!  Thank you! Thank you!

On a lark, I used the CLI button for my QS1 this morning. Limit instantly incresed from 1k to 3k. I have had three statements cut, and hhave tried the CLI button a half dozen times previously with no success.  I have used the card 'heavily', probably runnign 75% of the CL each month and making frequent payments. YMMV.

  • Why the 2 year wait for chase sapphire?

Why is Chase saying you have to wait 2 years before you can be approved or be able to apply for the Sapphire card? I realize for the part of too many applications biut that seems somewhat ridiculous. Any thoughts?

I app'd like mad person so I have a  load of inquiries. That is my situation. Read above it might not be 2 years for you.
Ahh okay...well I guess I could understand how that would be with the 10 Chase cards...espeically in a short period of time. Seems like they would percieve that as a lot of exposure to one person I suppose...To add to this, a month or twoish ago, Chase started throwing down the hammer and handing out denials where multiple people were told the reason was because they had 5 tradelines from other lenders in the past 2 years.  I didn't follow it closely enough but it seemed like might be any 5 tradelines including Chase. Long debate on some threads on it, if you search think original author was Yes-Its-Me in the most discussed; however, while this hasn't held apparently for everyone, it's evident Chase has done a fairly significant overhaul on their underwriting on their primary non-co-brand cards.   Even limited spreers like myself will have to probably be a little more restrained, and I never have gone over 4 tradelines in a single spree before, though I may start soon as mortgage closes heh.  I don't fall afoul of their current UW no fly zone (miss it by 4 months) and I do have a decent relationship with Chase, but we'll see as I may be skirting the lines between some new tradelines in the past 2 years and a slew of inquiries from the mortgage process; hopefully they're smart enough to ignore that or I'm good enough to be able to recon that away if it happens. Given that the average number of cards held by the typical American consumer is less than 5, it's not a bad policy for a lender to institute though it kicks a number of us to the curb for a while... have to really want it and strategize it's acquisition now whereas before it just wasn't that challenging to acquire.

  • Capital One VentureOne Approval and QS CLI

Hey folks, So today marks my 4th months since opening my Quicksilver card so I decicded what the heck and went ahead and hit the CLi button wasnt expecting anything seeing on how discover keeps denying me CLI's but to my surpise i got a $1k increase. Bringning me up to $4,000!  That was my highest limit card for a total of 6 hours. I got greedy and I decided to check Capital One's preaproval site and I saw I was Pre-qualified for a venture and venture one. Applied for the VentureOne cause I wouldn't spend enough to justify the annual fee on the venture. And bam approved for $5,000. Also, to top it off, its my first Visa Signature! Think I finally broke the $5,000 glass ceiling for me.

I found these boards so helpful in deciding whether or not I should apply, so I thought I'd share my experience for any others who may be interested in this card.  All 3 of my scores are right around 650.  I have a 4 year old car repo, and a few 6 year old medical collections, other than that, everything recently is doing great.  I was approved last month for a $1000 CL on an Amex Everyday, which I was thrilled about, it's been my largest limit so far.  Have 4 other smaller cards.  I really want the points for SW and finally decided to just give it a try.  To my surprise, not only was I approved, I was approved with a $16,000 CL!!!  Never in a million years, especially after rebuilding after a tough couple of years, did I think I'd get approved, much less a limit that high.  Hope someone else finds this useful.

  • Chase Ink Cash

Ok so, bear with me! I don't plan on making any major credit decisions any time soon until I get my balances down and let some accounts age. But I've been eyeing this card and would like some advice.
    1) What are the qualifications? I know Chase is strict with their business cards. I have the CapOne Spark to build business credit but I wonder if there's a minimum income or amount of time your business must be intact.
    2) Does the "cash" translate to UR like the Freedom?
I would love to have another card that earns UR that I could use with my CSP, the Freedom doesn't do much for me, but this one offers 5% on office supplies, phone and cable. This would be awesome for me and I could move all my bill pay spend to this card as well as get supplies for my students. The 2% for gas and restaurants isn't too impressive because I use my Hilton for that. But the 5% categories would be plenty. If I use my CSP for travel spend, Hilton for gas, grocery and restaurant spend, Ink for bills, and Venture for uncategorized spend, that leaves pretty much every other card in my sig obsolete, except for the BofA Cash since I use it for BankAmerideals. I haven't used my Delta Amex since I met the spend bonus, so I think PCing it to SPG may be more useful, and if i move my bills to the Ink, that leaves nothing for the AAdvantage (which I also rarely use). The Forward stays around for iTunes purchases, concert and football tickets. Am I off with anything here? Is this a decent plan? What could I do with my AAdvantage? I like the miles but I really rarely fly

icyhot - exactly what I do. Earn points with the Chase Sapphire Preferred VS and the Chase Ink Business Cash VS. Works well and I like the partnership. Previously, I had a Chase Freedom VS but it did not really work for my spending pattern and I don't like chasing categories. So I said goodbye to it.

  • Worth it to recon CSP?

I was hoping for some advice about this situation: I applied for a Chase Sapphire Preferred card on 6/8 or 6/9 (don't remember exactly) and was denied for insufficient income. I'm a part time student with an income around $14k but I also have no housing expenses (living with parents). I wasn't going to recon it, since it's true I don't have a high income, but it still hasn't been 30 days so I think I could still call and I'm reconsidering since I've read about the new Chase policy about new accounts...I've opened more than 5 new accounts in the last 2 years, but when they pulled that report, only 3 or 4 were reporting I think. So if I don't get it from this application, I'm not sure when I'd be able to get it....Would definitely be awhile.  Any advice? Would it be possible to convince them to approve me with this denial reason? Thanks!

Thanks! It is best to leave it alone.  There won't be any convincing Chase with a 14k annual income.  The good part is the CSP has been around for a quite a bit now and wants you finish school and have a reasonable income, you can give it ago again. But at this time, you don't stand a chance and won't get approved.

  • What's the best way to get a Signature Visa ? apply or CLI ?

I have a 2012 Bank America Cash Rewards Visa Platinum Card that i've successfully removed the $39 annual fee and had it changed to Better Balance Rewards as of last year because i was only earning $50 cash back on my Cash Rewards and figured i could be earning $125 a year having the Better Balance Rewards nstead so i made the switch. Better Balance Rewards usually comes in a Mastercard but they kept it Visa when they changed it from Cash Rewards to BBR. The only thing i did not like was because it was the first credit card it sits at a low $500.   When i hand it to the cashier at starbucks (because of their BankAmeriDeals 10% Cash Back using your BankAmerica Card)  I am embarrass  because it's not ''Signature Visa'' makes me feel and look like i may have ''bad'' credit or just carrying a secured card.   When i tried asking if i can be upgrded to a signature visa they said my card does not qualify and need to hard pull my credit report.for a credit limit increas to $5,000. The problem is would i be better off applying for Bank America Signature Visa (preqalified on their site) then i get $100 cash back when i spend $500 in 90 days. Then could they roll over my cash rewards credit line to Better Balance Rewards and close 2015 Cash Rewards ?  or would i be better using my ''hard inquiry'' for either US bank cash+ or Chase Sapphire Preferred ? because i know US Bank may be inquiry sensitive and i was planning applying either those 2 in the fall but did not want my inquir from Bank Ameroca get in the way. BTW, my Freedom is signature Visa. Capital One EO would not convert my Capital One Quicksilver Mastercard to Signature visa either. Said i need apply for a Signature Visa and then close the Mastercard which would be stupid since its also one of the longest accounts opened with Bank America. Capital One was $500 but they now allow you combine your cards which was how i got it from $500 to $5,000 without a hard inquiry though unlike Bank America trying to do. So my question is what's the best way getting your cards upgraded to a Signature Visa when its costing you a hard inquiry ? apply it or increase it ? or would you rather use your hard inquiry somewhre else and just not use your non signature visa useless $500 limit card ?  What i want ? i want my Bank America $500 limit up with my rest of my portfolio cards and upgraded to signature visa WITHOUT a hard inquiry but  they won't do it without a hard inquiry which i wanted to save for adding chase sapphire signature visa and or US bank Cash+ signature visa to my portfolio in the fall so it seems if i want to do this its going to cost me 2 if not 3 hard inquires instead of just 1,     i currently have 24 inquiries but 0 in the last 6 months.  I been a good boy  until next black friday  thank you

I understand your frustration with low limits. AMEX started me off at $1,000 a few years ago and it's slowly grown since then.  No need to be ashamed about not having a VISA Signature. Most cashiers aren't looking that closely and most people outside of this forum don't obsess over credit cards. If you're trying to protect your AAoA, then by all means call BOA and ask to talk with a credit analyst (or call the backdoor directy). Request a CLI to your desired amount ($5000 or more). In my experience BOA has been great with CLIs. Good luck!  If you're not concerned about your AAoA, then consider which card fits your needs and spending habits: CSP or Cash+. From what I understand, the Cash+ is a difficult card to obtain (often involving manual review). I love my CSP (it's more a travel card), but Chase is stingy with CLIs. I've read here that Chase tends to give bigger limits on second cards. So, since you already have a Freedom Signature, perhaps you'll get a decent CL if you apply for the CSP.  Good luck!

  • Going for the wicked Double-Chase-card-combo

I'm looking to get the Chase Sapphire Preferred card sometime in the next couple of months for gathering travel miles but I am unimpressed with the 2x points only on travel/dining. Chase Freedom is a great combination to have with CSP (5x points on rotating categories including groceries/gas/amazon) since points can be transferred to CSP which, in turn, can be converted to frequent flier miles on a 1:1 ratio. This, obviously, can translate into big returns for travel. I'd prefer to get both cards all in one shot and just take the big hits to my credit now. After that, I'd just garden for a couple of years before going for anything else. Quick credit overview: FICO sits at around 735Utilization always <10% (now it's sitting at 3%)Good income-to-expense ratio (< 30%)Only 1 credit card @ $7500 limit2 inquiries within 12 months... 4 inquiries within 24 monthsAAoA 4.75 yrs with oldest account at 13.5 yearsNo baddies on any of the 3 CRs Has anyone tried doing this (2 cards at one time)? Any success stories? Any advice for moving forward with this?

Hmm... is that 5 new credit card accounts or 5 new accounts in general? I looked it up and the purpose of this policy is to prevent card churn that has gained steam in the last few years. It would really suck if they held ALL new accounts to this standard. I only have 1 credit card and no plans to "churn" but my 3 student loans all began reporting 3 years ago, I got my only card 2 years ago, and we bought a house last year. That makes 5 and it would really suck to have to wait 2 years to get the CSP. EDIT: I have read that it is 2 years not 5 years. In that case, I will (hopefully) be good to go.Rejecting for 4 accounts in under 2 years. I won't be eligible for CSP until next February (if I chose to get it) because of this new rule. Be patient. Thanks for the advice. But in the last 2 years, I only have opened 2 new accounts and I don't see a reason to wait any longer for the CSP. By the time I apply in Sept, my score should be sitting around 740-750. We need to start gathering points up for the European trip we want to take in 4 years
