Checked out to (Exclusively)

Hello Everybody!  When logged into Source Control, we noticed a few files have been checked out.
Somehow, the user did not "check In" when closing out the project.  Is there a way for the Administrator to forcefully Check In back those files?

I believe that this depneds on what rights the Admin user has been assigned in the User Library. However I'd have expected that the default Admin logon created when you create the RSC database would have all reaching access rights. If this doesn't work, there is also an undo checkout option although obviously you'd loose any changes made to the files.

  • Check-out Exclusive and Check-out Nonexclusive

    Hi,
When we check out a record exclusively or non-exclusively why is the 'Modify Join Permissions' option active(not disabled).According to my understanding,if we make check-out non-exclusive, without modifying join permission, all the other users must be able to 'Join checkout'.If it is exclusive we have to assign user and role who can Join Checkout it.Then why is the 'Modify Join Permission' option coming for non-exclusive checkout also.Apart from my understanding is there any other difference between the two. Please help me in clarifying this.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Preethi

    Hi,
    (1) Exclusive, which grants join permissions to no other roles or users (by default, no other users can join the checkout); and
    (2) Nonexclusive, which grants join permissions to the Everyone role (by default, all users can join the checkout).
Instead of checking in the duplicate record, the owner can use the Roll Backcommand to delete the duplicate and abandon changes.
You can use the All Versions command to display both versions (originals and duplicates) of all checked out records. This is the only way for other users to join the check out of new records.
You can use role-based privileges to decide whether owners and/or non-owners are permitted to check in, roll back, or modify join permissions of checked out records.

  • TFS 2012 - no lock on check-out though policy is lock exclusive

we have a team project defined based on CMMI template and lock exclusive checkin policy (i.e. multiple checkout is off) and checkout is defined to do also getlatest. Users do check-out and check-in fluently, and each time they check-out, the object gets
locked and into edit mode, as should be.
However, there's a user for which check-out doesn't lock, as if it were with multiple checkout on, and only when the user explicitly clicks on advaneced->lock and then check-out, the object gets locked as should be. This user tried the exact same thing
on another PC and got the same behavior. Deleting and recrating his workspace in workspaces window didn't help, nor obviously team explorer repair didn't resolve the problem.
Note, when this user performes checkout, the locking options field in the checkout window that opens, is open for seletion for one of the two options as shown in attached pictures, rather than closed field with lock exclusive in it. Strange.
Can u please advise how to find what the problem is in this case, and better yet how to resolve it ?
    Attached pictures :

The default setting at the collection level is a "suggested" setting and it can be overrules by the individual users in their own workspace configuration.
You can check the workspace configuration for your users using the commandline:
    tf workspaces /format:detailed /owner:* /computer:* /collection:http://jessehouwing:8080/tfs/DemoCollection
You can replace * in Owner and Computer with an actual username or computer name.
To update a workspace using the commandline, use:
    tf workspace /location:server  collection:http://jessehouwing:8080/tfs/Democollection <<workspacename>>;<<owner>>

  • NWDI Issue - Cannot checkout missing file that was checked out exclusively

Hello, I'm getting error when I try to edit a file (mdmapi_assembly.pp) on my project.
This file was checked out exclusively on another computer, that's does not exist anymore (even it's owner lol).
This error appear on DTR Console:
EDIT  (FAILED: server response: Conflict [(pre||post)-condition failed: x:cannot-checkout-exclusively-checkedout-resource])  mdmapi_assembly.pp   (C:\......\_comp\def\mdmapi_assembly.pp)
    Anyone can help me?
    Thanks anyway!

    Hi Julio,
I think that some one created an activity on this specific componet and left it open. It looks like that activity never check-in. To make sure this please log on to Component Build Service>>Now select your build space and compartment>> now click on Pending activities.
See if there are any pending activites left? if there are , if you can,  request basis to delete the open activity if it is not useful and nobody was using it. Sync the latest version and it shopuld allow to create a new activity. If there are no pending activites and you still see the same error then delete the project and configurations from the local NWDS. Reimport the configurations from the Development configurations perspective, and try create a project for the specific DC and try creating an activity,
    Thanks

  • Must *.fpj file be checked out exclusive?

RH9, RH9 Server, WebHelp Pro, TFS source control
We are two authors working on a project. When one of us attempts to create a project, TFS blocks it saying that the project .fpj file must be checked out exclusive in order to create a topic.
Of course we can solve the problem by one of us checking it in so the other can create a topic. But should this really be necessary?

    Hi,
The *.fpj files are located in each folder in the project. If you add a topic, RoboHelp adds a link to the topic in the .fpj file so it knows which topics are part of the project. The same goes for the .hhc, which holds the TOC. If you want to modify the file, you need to check it out. I don't think RoboHelp supports multiple check out, but I may be wrong.
If the TOC is a problem, you can create multiple TOC's in the project and merge them in the default TOC. When you check out one of the TOCs, the other can continue working with the other TOC's. Nothing to do about the .fpj.

  • Best practice for checking out a file

    Hello,
What is the SAP best practice to check out a file? (DTR -> EDit or DTR -> Edit Exclusive?)
What are pros and cons of checking out a file exclusively?
    Thanks
    MLS

    Thanks Pascal.
Also, I think if a developer checks out exclusively, makes changes and leaves the company without checking in, the only way is to revert those files in which case all his changes will be gone.

  • Portal check out record does not check in when MDM workflow is active

    Hi Experts,
We are using portal as front end for the MDM material creation/update.
when a user tries to edit a material via portal, the record is checked out in mdm and once the record update is done and submitted that particular record will be checked in. this is normal process and automatic in nature till date.
However, we have created a simple workflow in mdm, we havent checked out records in start step of workflow.
So it normally executes without check out /in via MDM Workflow.
workflow triggerring action = record import, record update, record add.
when i edit the material vai data manager WF triggers fine and all is well.
However when i edit the material via portal, record is checked out (which is normal) and once record is submitted, the workflow in mdm is triggered successfully.
Workflow ends with all necessary syndication's and validations and ends successfully, But after this the record still remains as checked out? ???
ideally as mentioned above (in bold) once the user completes editing the record and submits it, the record should be checked in, but this is not happening!!!
Please let me know why is this happening.
    Please help.
    Regards
    Eva

    Hi Eva,
    That is useful.
Analyzing this issue I came across SAP note 1740194-Record remains in exclusive lock after workflow is completed. This was an issue observed in SAP MDM 7.1 SP08.
    It gives a workaround -
    The workaround is:
The owner of updating has to click on the modified record in Data Manager after workflow completed. The original modified record will be unlocked.
    Ofcourse,resolution would require an upgrade.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

  • NWDI Check out conflict

    Hi,
I am trying to checkout(edit) a DC settings , I received following error:
"DC Definition could not be checked out : The file .dcdef is checked out by others"
Is there any way I can resolve this as other user sits on different time zone and look offline. I could not inform him checkin his activity.
    Thanks
    Praveen

    Hello,
Is the file edited as 'exclusive'? If not you can override it anyway and the last
doing the check-in will have to merge the conflicts.
Otherwise, if you have administrator permissions, you can:
    1. Log on http://<server-di>:<port-di>/devinf/main as user administrator.
    2. Go to "Component Build Service"
    3. On the top select 'Activities'
    4. Search on the right Buildspace.
    5. There are different Tabs, select "Pending Activities" and filter if needed.
    6. If there, you see your partner activity, you can select and activate it.
    7. Synchronize again the DC and you should be able to 'Check it out'.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards,
    David.

  • How to Explicit Check-Out

    Hello,
How do I check-out the source code explicitly in the Netweaver developer Studio. I know, when we create new code, it prompts for check-out. But where is the context menu to choose check-out?.
    Thanks,
    Sunita.

    Hi Sunita,
the option is named "Edit (exclusive)" when you do a checkout using the context menu.
If you let the wizard tell you when you have to check out there is a checkbox giving you the alternative to do an exclusive checkout.
Please keep in mind that this is not good practice in Java. But it can help you avoiding merging in WD as there is no tool support yet. So use it with care.
    Best regards,

  • Is it possible to check out whole repository from dtr command line tool?

    Hi
I wonder is it possible to check out whole repository from dtr command line tool.
Normally, in NWDS i have to log into SLD, select a component, then select components i want to check out into workspace.
I would like to do some static analysis (PMD, etc) but checkiing out everything manually is really painfull.
Are there any guides how to check out everyhing from the command line (so i would nothave to specify any paths except top level components)?

    Hi,
I don't know of a feature which would allow to check out "everything" from the "root".
checkout Checks the given resource out.
    Syntax checkout/co \[-exclusive| -x] resource \[activity]
Options exclusive|x If specified the resource is exclusively checkout-out.
Arguments resource The resource that should be checked out.
activity The path or name of the open activity that should be used for the checkout, if no activity is specified one is implicitly created.
    Output Variables
    $wr[] Working resources
    $act[] Activities
    Description Checks a resource out.
    Examples
Checkout a file within a given activity
Checks out the file "/ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt" in the activity "/act/myActivity".
    checkout /ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt /act/myActivity
    Checkout a file
Checks out the file "/ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt" in an activity that is implicitly created and returned in the output variable "$act".
    checkout /ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt
    Checkout a file exclusively
Checks out the file "/ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt" exclusively in an activity that is implicitly created and returned in the output variable "$act".
    checkout -x /ws/wspdir/wsp/dir/a.txt
Can you please also tell us what kind of statistics you intend to create? Sorry I don't know what PMD abbreviates.
You can always generate yourself an up-to-date documentation of the DTR Console by exporting the help (for details type help help): help -x c:/DTRConsole.doc

  • Jdev: public_html is being periodically left checked out ???

We have an odd and periodic problem happen. OSCM version: 4.11
    - Periodically a check out is left on a directory (public_html in Jdev)
    - Someone else is allowed to checkout this directory and check in. This leaves
We have exclusive lock enabled!!!!! ???
    - This leaves the dangling check-out hung
Attempts to check-in force a merge, which hangs with CPU spinnnin on the RON
    - Undo checkout is the only solution.
    - When the earlier version is locked, all Jdev us of adding files is blocked even though
the top version is one greater than the checked out version.
    Anybody have any ideas?
    TIA curt

We have had a similar problem. It occurs when someone adds a new file to the repository without first downloading the latest version. If the developer's current workarea has an older version of the public_html folder, jdeveloper cannot check in the folder with the added files since there is a newer version. Since our repository rules are the latest content of a root folder, the refresh associated with the download updates to the latest public_html version before the add occurs. We also found that the merge does not work properly once the problem occurs. The merge window does not accurately indicate the differences between the versions and if you go ahead with the merge, the files not listed will not be present in the new checked in folder.

  • XPJ checked out of source control, other authors get error

    Hi all,
We have three people on my team who update help topics. We
use RH 7 and Microsoft Visual Source Safe with auto
check-in/check-out. When one of us is in the help project and one
of the other two also enters the helps project, the second person
gets an error message saying "The files in the list below could not
be checked out from version control. Exclusive access to these
files is required to execute the selected action," and our xpj file
for the project is listed. The second person closes the dialog box
and proceeds to work. We know that when the first person enters the
help project, the XPJ file is checked out, but we're worried that
this error means something is wrong. Isn't the whole point of using
source control so that multiple people can work in the same
project? We don't understand why we're getting these error
messages. Nothing seems to have gone haywire with this, except that
we are having problems with conditional build tags getting out of
sync between our systems. We don't know if our tag problem is due
to the XPJ check-out issue. Are we not supposed to be have our XPJ
file in source control? Would this cause the tag problem?
I'm going to post a separate message about the tag problem.
Thanks in advance for any help!
    Lisa

Hi Collum and Dhiren: Thank you for your assistance so far.
Update: Not all of our help projects' XPJ files get checked
out -- only this one project. Also, it appears that the problem
with our tags not sync'ing is related to the XPJ being checked out
by the first person to launch the project.
    Specifics:
We actually have three help projects, one of which we all
work in regularly (hereafter called "Project Bad"), and two others
that only one or the other us works in regularly. I noticed that
the other help project I work in does NOT check out the XPJ file
when I open it (hereafter called "Project Good."). With Project
Good, I never get a message saying that it's checking the XPJ file
back in, and the VSS never shows that the XPJ file is checked out
when one of us is in it, although VSS always shows the correct
modified date when it was last modified. This a.m., I had one of my
co-authors test Project Good with me. We both opened it, created
new conditional build tags, applied tags to text, check things in
and out and in again, and not once did either of us get a message
about the XPJ file being checked out, nor did we have any problems
with our conditional build tags. Everything updated beautifully,
and yet, the topics are checking out correctly. Also, we don't have
"allow multiple check-out" selected for Project Good.
So, now I wonder if the settings are different between the
two projects, but I looked at the Properties for both projects and
XPJ files, and I see no differences between them.
One thing that does come to mind: Regularly, one of us gets a
VSS error message when working in Project Bad. I don't usually get
it, but the others do. I didn't realize how common it was until one
of the authors just told me. The message reads: "SourceSafe has
detected that a previous operation against the 'XYZ' database was
unexpectedly terminated. To remove from the failure, please ask
your SourceSafe Administrator to run the Analyze Utility." Might
this have something to do with the problem? This message is
referencing our entire database where all three help projects
reside, though, and the problem is only with one of the help
projects, so I'm not sure this is part of the problem. I will try
running the Analyze Utility today just in case, but I tried to do
it months ago and it failed. I gave up and didn't try again.
Does anyone have any ideas about this problem based on these
latest developments? I welcome any and all input.
    Thanks,
    Lisa

  • After userA check out a page, edit the page and save, Sharepoint prompt userA have checked out the page

In one of site collection at our SP2013 farm, we have "SharePoint Server Publishing" site feature and "SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure" site collection feature activated.
One of user (UserA) create a page in a page library. The new page is marked as "checked out by UserA". It is fine.
Then UserA open the page -> edit page -> key in something and "save". Then the page prompt him "The file Pages/subfolder/test001.aspx has been modified by i:0#.w|test\userA on 8Aug2014 xx:xx:xx" and ask him to choose "Leave
this page" or "say at this page".  The date time is exactly the time he was editing the page.
Whatever he choose will save the page and return to "View" mode (non-edit mode).
It is not the only problem. When userA want to edit the same page again and save, it prompt him that "The page could not be saved because your changes conflict with recent changes made by another user. If you continue, your changes will be lost."!
When userA choose continue or "check out". Follow screen show up:
What can we do? In summary, userA cannot edit a page because userA have checked out! We have tried for different users have exactly same issue.

We are having the same problem, the one thing we have found is if we use the Save Icon on the top right hand side of the page in the ribbon (next to follow), that Save works just fine.  What is causing the issue is when trying to use the Save Icon on
the left hand side of the ribbon that has the dropdown options to 'Save', 'Save and Keep Editing' or 'Stop Editing'.  It doesn't matter if you just click on the main Icon or choose any of the dropdown options, they all cause issues with the pages.
    Thoughts?

  • "Unable to Check Out File Error" Message

I'm new to using Adobe products, so forgive me if this is a dumb question! My graphic designer sent me a INDD file to edit the text in and when I try to open it in both InDesign and InCopy, I receive an "Unable to Check Out this File" error message. I just downloaded InDesign CC and InCopy CC (the free trial versions). She said that all settings on her end should allow me to view it. Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

I've just experienced the same error message in CS4. I got rid of it by going to the Links panel, selecting all the links to Incopy, and Unlinking.
