Chinese translation company with InDesign skills

Hi.
I'm lookinf for a chinese translation company for technical translations over the years. I'm in contact with 3 companies and I've requested a 2 InDesign pages test to the better one (or I thought that...). They have send it and it's a blotched job.
So, the question is if you know some company (located in China) with real InDesign skills for english-simplified chinese translations.
Thanks.

Provided the Word document uses regular fonts, you have no problem at all.
If you install the complete suite, be sure to include *all* fonts (can't recall -- if it's not mentioned during install, browse your DVD. There should be a folder somewhere.)
In a default Windows installation, you have a choice between SimSun and MS Mincho, two rather badly drawn Chinese fonts. A slightly better one, but sans, is included in Arial MS Unicode (which may or may not be on your system by default).
BUT! lo and behold, Adobe is aware of this, and supplies not one but several different Chinese fonts, in distinctive designs and extra styles (light / regular / bold -- there is no "italic" Chinese). You can import the text and it'll probably show up as pink boxes, or in its original font (MS Mincho etc.), but then you can select all and choose whatever you like. The 'extended' fonts -- not limited to Chinese -- have their own section in the Font List, near or at the bottom,
i not
alphabetically.
b Beware though
as there are variations in the supported character set. There seem to be several scripts (some of them w/o any Chinese), and not all fonts have all possible characters. If the text is so specialized not one font has all glyphs, you'll have to revert to the font used in Word, but then, even that is no problem for ID.

  • Indesign Document with Chinese Translation

    Hello,
I am developing a datasheet for my company which will eventually be translated into Chinese for a convention in China. I am told the translation company will hand me a Word document which I will copy and paste back into InDesign for print production. What do I need to purchase or download in order to have the Chinese characters. Or..am I missing something all together and need to approach this a different way.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
I am running the entire Creative Suite CS3 (actually installing today).

  • Issue with Chinese Translations not picked up in Extended Notifications

    All Gurus,
We are on ECC 6.0 with the below settings.
    SAP_BASIS     700     0015     SAPKB70015     SAP Basis Component
    SAP_ABA     700     0015     SAPKA70015     Cross-Application Component
We have been using Extended Notifications for quite some time and it's working fine in EN. We now are working on generating the Outlook mails in Chinese Language. In these, there are some std. SAP texts (as mentioned in "General Settings" in transaction SWNCONFIG) are not getting picked up even though the corresponding Chinese translation exists. Specifically, the EN text
"The following new work items require processing XXXXXXXX" corresponds to Dialog text "SWN_PROLOG_MULTI" maintained for parameter "TEXT_PROLOG_MULTI" in General settings.
When the Outlook mail is generated in Chinese, the corresponding Chinese text is not getting picked up and says "Text Not Found". Similar issue existed for some other Dialog texts maintained for parameters "TEXT_GOTO_WI" and "TEXT_CONTACT_ADMIN" for which SAP suggested new Notes 1661893 and 1661894. For these texts, once Chinese text is maintained in SE63, its getting picked up in the Outlook mail.
Has anybody faced similar issue with Chinese translations in Extend.Notif ? If yes, please let me know how to fix this issue.
Also, anybody knows the message / Dialog text # for the text "Execute Work item.SAP" in the Link that is attached to the Outlook mail ?. Please tell me how to maintain the Chinese text for this EN text.
    Timely reply is really appreciated.
    Thanks in advance & Regards,
    venu

    All,
SAP provided the translations in the Notes 1675156 & 1675157 and it resolved both the issues mentioned. Also, the "Execute Work Item.SAP" link is picked up from the Text Elements of the class "CL_SWN_NOTIF_WORKFLOW".
As the issue is resolved, i'm closing this thread.
    Thanks
    venu

  • Phone with the English to Chinese Translator

My friend used to owned a Nokia phone which has the English/Chinese Translator, however it has been discontinued; I'm looking for the new model that has the above-mentioned function. I've tried emailing "ask Nokia" twice, but has yet to get a response, can anyone help by giving me the new model no??

What is the manufacturer of your phone? Can you look the instructions up in your phone's manual or search the website of your phone's manufacturer? Irregardless, the first thing you need to do is to "pair" your phone with your laptop. Make sure the Bluetooth settings on your phone say that it is "discoverable." Go to System Preferences>Bluetooth, then ensure that the box besides "Discoverable" is checked (if not, click the box so that a checkmark appears). Then click the "+" at the bottom of the left box. A setup assistant will guide you through the remaining steps to pair your phone with your laptop.
I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8100. BlackBerry phone can only send files to Macs, they cannot sync with Macs via Bluetooth. I do not know how to export my phone book to my MacBook Pro, but when I send pictures, I select "send using bluetooth". It then asks which device to send the file to. My MacBook Pro then displays a message that my phone is sending a file and asks if I want to accept that file. I select yes, and the picture is downloaded into the documents stack. Of course, +this paragraph+ is only how my phone connects via Bluetooth to my MacBook Pro. If you have a phone from a different manufacturer, your steps will be different. I only provided this as an example.

  • I need help to open an .idml file after translating it with Dejavu!

    Hi everybody,
I'm not used to work with InDesign, I only have to check a big problem: I'm a translator and have been working the last 4 weeks on a InDesing-Projekt from German into Italian. I changed the format of the files from .indd into .idml an imported the three files into my Computer-Assisted-Translation Ptrogram DejaVu. I've been working well till now. Now I tried to export the first File and wanted to open the .idml file with Indesign... The program began to work, but then came a warning "syntax error". Please, is there anybody who knows the program better than I (the agency which should know everything about this kind of files gives up at the first problem)??? This is very important to me. I speak german an italian very good, my english is rudimental....
Thank yopu and have a good day (tel. +49-(0)9208 588316)
    Alessandra

Sorry for the delay, I had a lot of other stuff going on today. This kind of work is somewhat laborious so I put it off.
I needed to send you the file, because I don't understand what you mean with opening the zip file and so on...
An IDML file is just a .ZIP archive of a bunch of XML files.
In this case, it turns out the problem is pretty obvious. Some story files, instead of containing valid XML, contain "MATTONELLE".
Like this, in the Terminal on Mac OS X, but substitute as appropriate for Windows:

So, it's probably obvious what you should do with your tool to fix these...
u3cf is an example of a normal file. I sort the files by file size to find the ones that are far too small to be normal XML.

  • Can I replace InDesign CS6 with InDesign CS6 ME version?

Can I replace InDesign CS6 with InDesign CS6 ME version? And does the ME version interface in English or Arabic?
I have a translator who sends me InDesign files using the Sultan font, but when I open it, a lot of the font shows up as math symbols. I have the correct font installed, but I'm wondering if I need the additional features of the ME version of InDesign to make the type correct on my end.

I don't believe my CS6 is from a Creative Cloud subscription. It was installed by my IT department, so I will ask them.
When I receive the files from the translator, they send both an InDesign file and a PDF, so I can see it as they see it. However, the InDesign file looks like this:
But the PDF file looks like this:
They sent me the font file, so I'm assuming I have the right font and the issue is on my end. Or perhaps not?

  • Automating PDF Generation with InDesign

Is it possible for InDesign to retrieve info from a database, automatically format the data with paragraph style(s) and export hi-res PDF art for each database entry? PDF export to include common art positioned on the master page. If this function is possible with InDesign, how does one accomplish this task?... AppleScript? I don’t speak code, so this could be very intimidating. Recommendations?

I think you might need an interpreter. I speak code, sure, but very slowly and with a very thick accent.
Plain vanilla InDesign won't hit a database; there are plugins for that. Catalog plugins, for example; if you're making something catalog-like, that's worth a search or three. If you can get CSV files from your DB, then Data Merge will work for minor automation. Read up on InDesign's XML capabilities if you need something more robust than that; it is extremely useful, and even someone like myself with barely-there software development skills can automate the production of a dictionary with XML spat out of a database.
In terms of automating the the formatting, XML is another obvious choice, because the working method is to map an XML tag to a style.
Exporting PDFs automatically is something that can be achieved with scripting, either Apple- or Java-. I don't know off the top of my head how to set it up, but there are quite a few talented scripters reading these forums, and perhaps one of them can nudge you in the right direction. Perhaps you'll see the advantage in actually contracting one of them to develop this for you.
All that being said, I'd be surprised if there wasn't already a catalog plugin to do exactly what you want. (The last time I said "InDesign can't really do that" it took about fifteen minutes for the forum regulars to post both a plugin and a custom-developed script that basically completely fulfilled the original poster's criteria.)

  • Arabic translation pasted into InDesign from Google Translate?

When I copy from Google Translate, paste into InDesign, and convert to Geeza Pro (an Arabic font in InDesign), the characters come in reverse order. Example in English: Google Translate = WEATHER (correct). After it's pasted into Indesign and converted to an Arabic font: REHTAEW (not correct). I know this has to do with the right to left reading. Is there a way to fix this since I have an entire business system I need to design and I can't spend the time to alter each word in InDesign after it's translated.

I'm running CS5.5. Yes ... I know I should upgrade, eat more whole foods, and less alcohol.
I do 100% of my Arabic work in CS4, with ye olde version of World Tools. There's nothing for you in upgrading to CS6; CS5.5 has every scrap of functionality you need. The javascripts you found on that old Thomas Phinney blog-posting will do 85% of the things that the World Tools plugin will do, and I think you probably don't need the other 15% if I understand your project correctly. If you need to make booklets with the spine on the right, you'd need InDesign ME or World Tools. Otherwise I think you will be just fine using those scripts.
(If you are a menu-driven type who can't stand a lack of visual feedback, then World Tools is worth every penny. One of the drawbacks of the scripting solution is that there's no obvious check-mark next to "Direction: Right To Left" if you're just using the scripts.)

  • Does Translation hub supports English to Chinese translation?

    Hi,
I'm using Translation Hub to translate my existing 10g English Froms into 10g Chinese Forms using the Translation Hub tool available in Oracle Dev Suite.
While Installing the Translation Hub database into an existing UTF8 database I get the below error
ERROR: Current Character Set is UTF8. TranslationHub needs WE8ISO8859P1
When I installed Translation Hub database into an existing WE8ISO8859P1 database it installs successfully. However the translated chinses characters are shown as Junk characters (Eg. ????)
We found that this is because of the NLS_CHARACTERSET mismatch which will work fine with UTF8.
Pls provide any information how to achieve this

For English -> Chinese translation, I had to do some PC setups to get the strings to show up properly.
    1.Set nls_lang registry key to SIMPLIFIED CHINESE_CHINA.ZHS16GBK
    2. Set PC language (in Region/Language settings) to Chinese (PRC)
    3. Set PC input (also under Region/Language settings) to Chinese (PRC) - Chinese (Simplified) - US Keyboard
Set your PC up this way, reboot, then open Translation hub and paste in your Chinese Translations and generate the translated .REX file. This worked for me, but it took me weeks to figure out.

  • Creating an app with InDesign (and Creative Cloud)

    Help needed!
I have InDesign (through Creative Cloud) and want to create an app (i am also apart of the Apple Developer Program through our company). I have watched the informative video that takes us through all the steps ("InDesign Layout to iPad App"), but when i go to 'Folio Builder' there isn't a tab called 'Create App'). I dont know what i am missing, has this button changed to something else or has the process changed? I have been going through everything and i cant find the answer.
I have zero qualifications in creating apps (this first one is a muck-around to try out a few things i have learnt from watching videos and reading), but it was seeming quite easy through InDesign, before i got to this last step.
    THANK-YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Creating an app with InDesign requires downloading and learning the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. The DPS forum is best place to learn what you'll need to do so I'm moving your question there.

  • In the privacy policy, it states that percentages and durations of books read are being collected to ensure that publishers can have a metered price model, prices depending on how the book was read. Give me an example of a company with such a price model?

In your privacy policy, you state that the percentages and durations of books read are being collected to ensure that publishers can choose a metered price model. Prices which depends on the duration for which the book was read.
Give me an example of a company with such a price model? Are the information being collected even where the companies have not asked for the information, even when the metered price models are not being used?
Here is an extract från the privacy policy:
What information does Adobe Digital Editions collect and how is it used?
The following information may be collected when an eBook with DRM is opened in Adobe Digital Editions software. If an eBook does not have any DRM associated with it, then no information is collected.
User GUID: The User GUID is a unique value assigned in place of your User ID and is used to authenticate you.
Device GUID: The Device GUID is a unique value generated to identify your device. It is used to ensure that the eBook may be viewed on your device and that the number of devices permitted by the license is not exceeded.
Certified App ID: This ID represents the application that is being used to view the eBook, in this case Adobe Digital Editions. It is necessary to ensure that only a certified application may display an eBook. This helps to minimize piracy and theft of eBooks.
Device IP (Internet Protocol): This identifies the country you are located in when you purchase an eBook.  It is used by eBook providers for the enablement of localized pricing models. Only the country identifier of the Device IP is stored.
Duration for Which the Book was Read: This information may be collected to facilitate limited or metered pricing models entered into between eBook providers, such as publishers and distributors. These models are based on how long a reader has read an eBook. For example, you may borrow an eBook for a period of 30 days. While some publishers and distributors may charge libraries and resellers for 30 days from the date of the download, others may follow a metered pricing model and charge them for the actual time you read the eBook.
Percentage of the eBook Read: The percentage of the eBook read may be collected to allow eBook providers such as publishers to implement subscription pricing models where they charge based on the percentage of the eBook read.
Information provided by eBook providers relating to the eBook you have purchased: The following information is provided by the eBook provider to enable the delivery of the eBook to your device:Date of eBook purchase/download
Distributor ID and Adobe Content Server Operator URL
Metadata of the eBook, such as title, author, language, publisher list price, ISBN number
    How is the information transmitted?
The data is sent periodically to Adobe via a secure transmission using HTTPS.
    How is the information used?
Adobe uses the information collected about the eBook you have opened in Adobe Digital Editions software to ensure it is being viewed in accordance with the type of DRM license that accompanies that eBook. • Currency translation differences with an effect on earnings

    Product Version: SAP R/3 46.C
    Componente: EC-CS-CSF-E Currency Translation
In currency translation program of ECCS (tx CX40) the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period in the earnings retain item (ER) which according to SAP documentation "Currency translation differences with subsequent consolidations" is correct, however when we run the currency translation on subsequents periods this amount is posted again generating a multiplying of differences on each period.
In accordance with section u201CBu201D of SAP note 553586, the carryforward item (retain earnings) was assigned to translation key 5, to avoid multiplications of this difference in every execution of currency translation for current period. This correction was applied successfully, however the problem is now generated when we run the currency translation in every subsequent period.
SAP notes 582815 and 553586 was applied succesfully.
We also verified SAP note 1045402 changing the translation key 5 to 1, for balance carryforward item (retained earnings) this avoids the difference effect on subsequents periods, but  generates a translation differential effect undesired on this item, since this is a historical item that not must be altered by currency translation.
Additionally we read SAP note 509509 and we think that this issue corresponds whit symptom 2 of that note.

3 .- According to Section C of  note 553586 are included special accounts set up in the transaction CXD3 390000 and 251200, in the conversion SET ANI-IS and ANI-BS respectively.
When run the currency translation in the new year 1-2011, the prior year portion of translation differences that affects earnings is posted in current period a credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account. This amount is same on special balance sheet item 251200, in tx CXD3, also found on the statistical FS item.
Then in subsequent periods, 2 - 2011 it posting another credit to earnings retain and debit to account difference in SET for this account, generating a multiplying of differences on each period, even though the difference for this account (ER) in the log of the translation currency is equal to the difference posted to the previous period, show this in transaction CX34 for items of translation (1) for this account until 1-2011.

    Hi,
just a information how I did a workaround about this:
The opening (movement type 100) of the balance sheet item "differences of currency translation" is customized with "don't change...".
Every increase  to "differences  of currency translation" works with e.g. movement type 120 and will be carried forward to 100.
Maybe this is a scenario you can use...

  • How do you apply the same password policy to every PDF document you create with inDesign?

    All,
    Adobe peeps!,
I don't know if this is really supported with inDesign 5.5, but here is my my use case:
I constantly create more than 10 PDFs a day using inDesign
On  all PDF's I create, i want to apply password security to protect them
But in order to do so, within inDesign, I am   always forced to go to the "security dialogue" pane to set up the same permission  and passwords over and over again
    This gets tiring :/
So what I am hoping to do is  the following:
Like acrobat, I want to create a password policy within inDesign
I want all PDFs created to have such a password policy  be automatically applied
I know acrobat supports something like this (http://help.adobe.com/en_US/acrobat/pro/using/WS58a04a822e3e50102bd615109794195ff-7d68.w.h tml), but, unless I may have missed something, the Acrobat feature is limited. That is, the help link  does not tell me how to automatically do this with Acrobat either (the link does not explain to me how to "automatically apply the same password security policy to every PDF document I save within the application). I think the only way to do so is via "Adobe LiveCycle Rights Management ES", but for non server users, I am hoping there is another way.
    So my questions are:
Is it possible to create password security policies in inDesign?
Is it possible to apply the same password security policy to every PDF i create in inDesign?
If not, can I change default settings within Acrobat ProX to automatically apply a password security policy everytime I save a PDF?
If all fails, do you guys know of any extensions that can support this?
Any help would be great. Thanks!

    Steve,
Thanks for your notes. To follow up on your response.
Bummer. I kinda had a hunch at this inDesign limitation.
I have been aware of the method for setting up of a security policy within Acrobat. While this feature does cut down some of the work involved in creating and applying password policies to pdfs, what I am looking for with Acrobat is to apply the same password policy to every document I save from the app. Automatically. Without having to manualy select a policy.
I think my solution will have to lie in me creating some sort of script to help support this need. I don't think Acrobat Pro X has the capabilities to allow me to tinker with, say, creating a save PDF preset that will allow me to automatically apply a password policy.
PS. I am using acrobat pro x.

  • How can I charge my chinese iTunes account with a 25 euro gift card I bought in Germany?

How can I charge my chinese iTunes account with a 25 euro gift card I bought in Germany?  Thanks.

iTunes gift cards can only be used in the store in the country in which they are bought - so if you bought a German iTunes gift card then you will need a German iTunes account. If you haven't got a German iTunes account then do you know anybody with one who could give/sell it to ?

  • Getting an strange error in "PluginPrefix.pch" while compiling a plugin code with InDesign CS4 SDK.

    Hi everybody,
Currently trying to compile/build the existing Plugin code (C++) with InDesign CS4 SDK on my Mac OS X 10.5 machine but getting following strange errors.
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:26:27: error: MemoryStatics.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:39:30: error: PluginBuildFlags.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:40:28: error: AnsiBasedTypes.h: No such file or directory
      /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/gcc/PluginPrefix.pch:41:26: error: ShukHeaders.cp: No such file or directory
Though above mentioned files are present at the following directory
    /Volumes/../../../Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK/source/precomp/common/
Note : However initially I did not find “MemoryStatics.h” and “AnsiBasedTypes.h” files in the installed SDK directory. I have downloaded them from the net and copied those into the above mentioned directory.
I am not much familiar with Mac OS environment and compiling/building C++ code with Xcode. Can anyone help me to resolve this issue (might be very trivial and related to Xcode project configuration) ?

    Thanks for the quick response,
Yes, current build settings include path shortcuts as mentioned below and it also contains “$(CS_SDK_PATH)/source/public/includes” path in HEADER_SEARCH_PATHS settings.  But still I am getting the same error: MemoryStatics.h: No such file or directory
    CS_SDK_PATH= /Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/Adobe InDesign CS4 SDK
    CS_SDK_PRJ_PATH=/Volumes/MAC Extended/Inbetween Extended/Visual Studio/InBetweenDev/Projects/InBetweenCS/IBClientPluginCS3/prjCS4/mac
Just for clarification : my Plugin code /project files are not inside the InDesign SDK (build/mac/prj). All the plugin project is outside of the InDesign SDK directory. Thus above mentioned CS_SDK_PATH and CS_SDK_PRJ_PATH are completely different.
Is it expected that the plugin code/project files should be inside the InDesign SDK/build/mac/prj  directory only ? or is it okay if we put it in the completely another directory structure and modify the  SDK_PRJ_PATH accordingly (as in my case) ?
Please let me know if you want me to elaborate the situation further.
