Cisco 2620 Adsl WIC

My 2620 will not recognise a ADSL WIC card. I have tried a number of ios but none work. Also I have 8mb of flash on my router and some bin files less than that size will not load using xmodem saying there is not enough space. Any ideas on how to get the router to see the card will be greatly appreciated

Quoting from CCO:
"The Cisco 2600/3600/3700 series routers require a PLUS Cisco IOS Software image for ADSL if version 12.2T is in use. From Cisco IOS Software Release12.3 mainline and later, ADSL WIC support is available in the "IP Base" feature set."
So you will need to download an appropriate image to get your router to recognise the card. Since you only have 8Mb of Flash, you will either need to upgrade your flash to 16Mb or boot via TFTP.
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • Could Cisco 1701 ADSL Router supports WIC-1ENET Card.

    Hi,
I need advise as to if a Cisco 1701 ADSL router could support WIC-1ENET Card.
My 1701 Router has WIC 0 as ADSL and WIC 1 as ISDN, could the ADSL card be replaced by a WIC-1ENET. I noticed ,that the cards seems to be rivet onto the back of the Router and not connected with SCREWS as other routers would posses.
Could someone advised as to how i can have this router supports 2 Ethernet NICs or what could be your recommendations?
    Thank you,
    Cisco End User.

    Hello,
the WIC-1ENET is supported on the 1701, but, AFAIK, only in slot 0.
It does not support 2 WIC-1ENET cards, only the 1720, 1750, and 1751 do, with a specific IOS release, check out this info from CCO:
WIC-1ENET- Support for two Ethernet WICs
The Ethernet WIC (WIC-1ENET) provides the capability to deploy additional Ethernet port(s) in a Cisco 1700 series routers. The initial release of the WIC-1ENET supported only one WIC-1ENET card in a 1700 router. The new IOS 12.2(2)XJ release offers the option of deploying up to two WIC-1ENET adapters in a Cisco 1720, 1750, or 1751 router. A total of three Ethernet ports can be configured. A typical application that requires three Ethernet ports involves using the built-in 10/100 Fast Ethernet port for LAN segment. One of the WIC-1ENET port could be used for high-speed broadband DSL or cable modem connection. The second WIC-1ENET port could be used for a DMZ (demilitarized zone) environment for deploying public Web servers or FTP servers. Hardware modification is not necessary to use the capability of IOS 12.2(2)XJ. The new IOS software is compatible with WIC-1ENET adapters already installed in 1700 series routers.

    Hi
I've got problem trying to connect the CISCO-887VDSL/ADSL OVER POTS ROUTER to internet. Only got the LAN part working.
I'm trying to setup PPPoE with dynamic IP
Followed CISCO's documentations but the commands used were not recognized by the router. Any simple working config for me to follow will be enough.
I'll appreciate any help. Thanks a lot!

  • Cisco 2620 eigrp/ospf issues

    Greetings,
I'm having issues getting a Cisco 2620 and a Dell Powerconnect 6024 to redistribute via eigrp/ospf correctly which are both at a remote location. I have attached a basic diagram to better show the topology. We have been unable to access the remote site from our main site (which is using a cisco 3600) without a static route for each subnet at the remote site. Hopefully this makes sense.

There are a couple of things that I am not clear about concerning your situation. Your diagram shows a single subnet between the Cisco and the Dell. Is everything in the Dell in that single subnet? If so I am not sure why you are running OSPF, since there will not be any OSPF routes to redistribute.
If the diagram is incomplete and there are routes in OSPF that need to redistribute to EIGRP then there is an issue in the configuration. There is no default metric configured under router EIGRP. Without a default metric routes from another protocol (OSPF) will not redistribute into EIGRP.
I think it is also an interesting question whether the 2620 and the 3600 routers are forming EIGRP neighbor relationships. Failure to form EIGRP neighbor relationships could also cause the symptoms that you describe.

  • VOIP home lab with cisco 2620 and VIC-2FXO port

    Hi all,
I m considering building a home lab for studying CCVP, the lab would be based on the follow components :
    - CUCM 8.X (already installed)
    - A couple of soft phones running in VMWARE with IP Blue and CIPC (they are already in place and registered with the CUCM)
    - Cisco router 2620 with NM-2V and VIC-2FXO-M2 (for europe, I'm in France)
so here are my questions :
1/ it looks like the NM-2V comes with integrated DSP, so I should not need more DSP, I have got one PSTN analogic line only so I can make only one call at a time, please confirm
2/ my analog line comes via my home internet provider dsl box, i have already tried to connect an analog phone and it works, please confirm the router will be able to receive and place calls
thanks for your help, I m looking forward to begin my voice lab

    1. Yes, the NM-2V has built-in DSP resources for up to four calls (max voice port density with two 1st generation VICs). You cannot add further DSP chips to the NM-1V/2V, nor would you need to for what it does. You have one PSTN phone line, thus you can only make one call at a time. If you had a second line you could use the other FXO port for a second concurrent call.
    2. If the phone line works then it will work with the router to make and receive calls. As Gregory said, just configure dial peers for what you need to do.
Here is some info on the NM-2V:

  • Making a VoIP call with the Cisco 837 ADSL router

I would greatly appreciate if could please provide some technical assistance to my questions below:
Is it possible to make a VoIP call between two 837 ADSL Cisco routers over a 1Mbps ADSL broadband connection?
If so, can I configure this VoIP connection using either a PPPoE or ATM WAN link?
Is it possible to make a VoIP call using a Cisco 837 Router while simultaneously surfing the Internet? In other words do I need two public IP addresses i.e. one for accessing the internet and one for making the VoIP call or is one static IP address obtained from my ISP sufficent.
It is possible to configure QoS parameters (e.g. RSVP, Voice precedence, Voice codec selection) on this 837 router using PPoE or can it only be done using an ATM WAN interface?
Does the Cisco 837 router support both the H.323 and SIP communication protocols? Do I need to purchase a certain IOS operating system version for VoIP calling?
Does the VoIP dial peers need to be configured with both a POTS and VoIP phone numbers or is only one number required?
Do I need to obtain a special VoIP number from my VoIP service provider? or can I use existing POTS numbers or made up numbers within the dial peers as this situation involves making a private VoIP call between two branch offices using 837 ADSL routers and not via a VoIP service provider.
Finally, can I use POTS ordinary telephones with the Cisco 837 for making VoIP calls or do I strictly need to purchase VoIP phones?
My apologies for the number of questions asked here but I currently need to know the technical ability of the Cisco ADSL 837 as I am thinking of employing these routers in my company organisation.
I await your feedback in due course.
    Thanks,
    Martin Healy

  • Cisco 851 ADSL site-to-site VPN support

    Hi expertise ,
we have 4 offices connected to internet via 1mpbs adsl connection. i have in all those sites cisco 851 dsl router. is possible to connect all offices togher using this model? we need to run voice mainly between offices, is 851 model capable to do site to site vpn between all offices.
hope got answer from you experts

    Tariq,
Yes with that model L2L VPN's are possible - it depends on 2 factors:-
    1) The version of IOS you currently have needs to have the crypto features - if not you need to download and install
    2) One of the sites needs to be the HUB - with a static IP address for the DSL link. You cannot created a VPN connection between 2 devices that have DHCP assigned addresses.

  • ISDN dial-in with Cisco 1721 and WIC-1B-S/T

    Hi there,
we use a Cisco 1721 with a WIC-1B-S/T interface for ISDN backup purposes. I configured the Cisco 1721 and connected the BRI-WIC to a ISDN channel. When I try to test the ISDN connection, I always get the error that the line protocol is down. The WIC is connected to the ISDN correctly. I do not understand why the line protocol is always down. Could anybody help? The chosen encapsulation is PPP, the ISDN Switch Type is basic-1tr6 (I think thats the right one for Germany). The IOS version is 12.4 (1c).

    Hi there,
the BRI interface is connected to a telephone system and not directly to a NTBA. The hostname matches the username, is this right? When I try to dial out, I get this messages:

  • Cisco 876 ADSL over ISDN Router

I am facing some problem in using ISDN bri S/T interface for connectivity to HO PRI router.I am not using the ATM interface of this router. The isdn status always shows that the isdn layer 1 and 2 is deactivated. IF i connect the same bri cable to other isdn router it works fine.
Is their any special configuration or command required in 876 router for the isdn dialing?
I found on cisco that the 876 router ISDN bri S/T interface is for the out-of-band mangement and dial backup.
Can i use this interface for the normal isdn dialing?
    need some clarification.

  • Strange issue - unable to establish PPP with Cisco 887 VAG router on one particular ADSL line

I have a strange problem that I’m struggling to get to the bottom of with my ISP and wondered if anyone could help.
We have a site with an older Cisco 877 ADSL router which was working happily until a few weeks ago when the connection dropped suddenly (out-of-hours at 2am if that’s of any significance – made me think most likely something carrier/ISP related?)    When connectivity was lost, the router could sync with the BT exchange (we are in the UK) but could not establish PPP.
We logged fault with our ISP – after some to’ing and fro’ing, they passed it onto BT and their engineers visited site, they fixed “a line fault” (we don’t get much detail on what was actually fixed) but we still could not establish connectivity – same thing, solid CD light but no PPP.
So, we replaced the router with another 877 – same again, solid CD but no PPP.  We replaced all the cables and microfilter etc but no difference.
We tried a different Cisco router (a newer Cisco 887VAG) which, as I understand, uses a different modem chipset but no matter – PPP could still not be established.  We tested this router on another ADSL line with the same ISP and it worked without issue, using the same ADSL account details, it was able to establish connectivity.  So we figured this must still be a BT/ISP issue.
Since then we’ve had BT out again twice but they say there is no fault.  The ISP say there is no issue with them.  But we still cannot establish ADSL connectivity on this line, despite having tried 3 different ADSL routers and despite the fact the routers work with the same account details on another ADSL line.
The 887VAG router we have currently connected has 3G backup so that is keeping us going in the meantime and also means I can login to the router remotely to check on the ADSL status.
But I’m struggling to pinpoint where the problem may lie.   Strangely, if I turn on PPP negotiation and authentication debug then I’m not actually seeing any output from it at all?
Yet, the ATM interface is up and shows packets being sent and received:

Does anyone have any ideas on where the problem may be and what more I can do to troubleshoot and provide the relevant evidence to our ISP (assuming it is an ISP/BT issue though the fact the same router works ok with the exact same details etc would seem to indicate it must be their issue!)

    Hi Jody,
thanks for the suggestions.  Here's what I see from the ppp debugs (but I'm not sure how to interpret?)

  • ADSL Interface problem

I have installed the Cisco 1721 with WIC-1ADSL and VPN module and configured to connect to the Japan network over VPMN from India.
    WAN link is ADSL.(bridging mode)
It works fine, but suddenle I lose the CD in the ADSL interface card, and I lost the connectivity,if it works it works fine for say 4 to 5 days,If it lose the CD then I struggle to get the connectivity. When the CD is not detected that time if I replace the Cisco 1721 router with the ISP provided ADSL router then it get connected to the Internet.
This is not a permanent problem,it is a intermitent problem.
    Could u please guide me?
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hello Gab,
your problem is indeed very annoying and common to xDSL backup solutions. Cisco has a 'new' feature called "object tracking" which is designed to address this issue, check this link:
Reliable Static Routing Backup Using Object Tracking
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/iosswrel/ps5413/products_feature_guide09186a00801d862d.html
Basically, you track the object (ip address) on the internet via your primary link, if the primary link fails, the router will activate the backup link, effectively eliminating the dependency on the interface status...

  • 2811 w/ WIC-1ADSL-I-DG PPPoA issue

    Hello:
I have been trying to test our new office gear prior to move, specifically the DSL WIC card.
It seems I have all the config correct but I fail to negotiate link and I am not getting much info from a debug standpoint leading me to believe: -1- PPP isn't quite set up correctly -2- the WIC is possibly bad.
Would it be possible for someone to review my config since I can find nothing on the web that serves as a decent example of using this WIC card with Qwest?
    DETAILS:
Info pulled from my old Actiontec modem for testing purposes:
    VPI/VCI = 0/32
    DSL Mode = MMODE
    DSL Negotiated Mode = T1.413
    Up/down = 7168/896
    ATM QoS class = UBR
The connection is doing PPPoA, evidently it is using PAP per my ISP (qwest does the local loop, my own ISP the VC termination and routing)

Additionally, it would be helpful if you provided what all the 'Modem States' are. For example, Modem state = 0x8 is in many docs but you don't say anything about 0x3. Its helpful to know all the codes for Modem state if your going to recommend doing debugs of atm events for troubleshooting. Hence, the post to the forum. I can't get link and everything appears to be set up properly.
    Thanks for the insight/answers.

No, I am afraid we don't do ADSL over ISDN. My boss ordered the equipment and I think the reseller wasn't too bright.
So would I be correct that I am going to have to have a WIC-1ADSL or a HWIC-1ADSL?
I see that this ADSL over ISDN card we have currently does support T1.413, but given I can't get link I am guessing that is only T1.413 when over ISDN so I have to use one of the other types of WICs listed above if this is over POTS.
If someone from Cisco or otherwise can confirm that would be great so I can go ahead and get the right card shipped to us ASAP.
    Thanks for the assist,

Thanks for pointing that out. I suspected it might be the issue but have not ordered or touched many DSL WICs in my day, only the bigger chassis's that terminate the traffic on the provider end.
