Cisco connect

When I try to load Cisco connect i get a message "cannot access your router".  My smartphone recognizes the router

There are three (3) reasons why you are getting this error message:
~~ You are trying to access your router’s wireless settings using a wireless computer connected to a different network.
~~ Your router’s wireless settings may have been changed in the web-based setup page instead of in Cisco Connect.
~~ Your router’s password may have been changed using another computer in your network.
There are three (3) ways to resolve this issue:
i. Updating Your Easy Setup Key
ii. Manually Connecting to Your Wireless Network
iii. Resetting and re-installing Cisco Connect on your main router

  • E1200 V2 upgraded to OS 10.8.2, Cisco Connect unsupported OS, also update firmware?

I purchased myu E1200 Jan 2012. Have been intermittent loss of connection & not sure whether it is old cable modem or router or? ISP came out & checked & changed some cable fittings said looked ok, but could be my old modem. (I'm getting ready to move out of area so don't want to buy a new modem now). But also a lot of my neighbors w Cox report intermittent loss of connection.
I will get messages saying I'm not connected to internet. Usually if i go up & turn off wireless & then turn it back on, it will search & find my router.  Frequently though I notice that when I check it has switched to my guest rather than primary for some reason.
I was having some of this before I even went to wifi a yr ago.
Just upgraded to Mountain Lion a couple weeks ago or so. Last night computer had a panic. I received advice to make sure all software as well as router firmware up to date. Found & updated MacBookPro Firmware update. Backed up.
Opened CiscoConnect & got message unsupported Operating System.
Reading about upgrading firmware, saw warnings about doing it hard wired or it could permanently damage router. Because of the intermittent connectivity problems & the warning, I think I would be safest to do this  manually by downloading it 1st & then updating the firmware from the download.
I see that instructions say to determine Firmware version. & it also says it will ask for router IP address. I'm guessing all that was in Cisco Connect. I know it has my passwords, but now I can't get to it. It also says I can use the web set up page to get the current firmware version. For updates (but it says for pc) it shows 8/2011 & 8/2012. Since mine was purchased in 1/2012 & unless it self updated, I'm guessing it is running the 8/2011 firmware. But just noticed in the User Guide it says that when I run Cisco Connect it checks for updates & installs them.  But that's kind of interesting w all the warnings about running it w a wired connection to make sure no interruptions.  Not sure how I have it set up, but I usually set software updates to prompt me so I can control when they actually run.
Once I have gotten that, will I be able to manually download the appropriate firmware version? Or if I click on that, will that start a set up or update process?
If I download Cisco Connect, will it update the already installed version, keeping all my existing info?  & then will that be compatible w Mountain Lion & then show me whether the firmware needs to be updated?
    Kathi

But anyway, I can't even open the old version!!! I just get a message about unsupported OS! So kind of hard to uninstall if I can't open it.
& for some reason when I was installing Mountain Lion, upgrading from Snow Leopard it found an old version of Parallels which I knew was not compatible.  Didn't even think about this.
Its sort of working but something is not working very well. I sure wish I hadn't listened to those who said to save the $ & not get the Apple Airport Express. Their stuff works & its not hard to set up like this!
    This is SO LAME!!!
& Where is lists the info, I have so far found NO INFO about updating. I usually have my software set to notify me so I control when it updates. & I think the last times I was in Cisco Connect it was under pressure just trying to get the router working again.
Right now I feel like throwing it at something.
Well, I have twice tried to download from the list for my model & when I click on the set up icon I get a message that "Setup" is damaged and can't be opened. You shold eject the disk image." But when I click for more info it says:
The app has been modified or damaged
The app’s code does not match the original code that was signed. The app has been modfied, or it may be broken or corrupted or have been tampered with. If you feel that an app has been damaged or tampered with, you should delete it by dragging it to the Trash.
Some apps and tools, such as AppleScript applications and some legacy tools, modify themselves after signing. These types of apps cannot be opened unless the Gatekeeper settings in the Security & Privacy preferences is set to “Anywhere.”

  • Can Cisco connect be used for small business web filtering?

I am searching for a web filtering solution for our small church.  The core requirement is to use a hardware-based solution to filter all internet traffic.  Our current wiring looks like this: [ISP router] --> [switch] --> [Open Mesh wireless access points].  Can I connect a Linksys EA2700/3500/4500/6500 between the [ISP router] and the [Switch], disable the Linksys wireless, and use Cisco Connect to filter all the internet traffic?
More info: We will only have a handful of wired/wireless devices which we have control over.  We expect most of the rest of the traffic to be generally outside our control via personally owned devices connecting thru the public wifi.  Therefore any solution which requires installation of software on individual devices will not work.
(If there are other threads on this topic I'd be more than happy to read them, I just couldn't find any.)
    Thanks!!

  • Cisco Connect won't connect to E2000 router

I've had an E2000 router set up and working fine for years. Today I tried to connect to it with Cisco Connect, as I'd like to enable a separate guest network (incidentally, if there's a way to do this through the web management interface, please let me know!). However, the software fails to connect to the router; the progress bar gets to 25% and then eventually times out. I've tried from multiple computers on the network, both wired and wireless, with the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi A_Generic_User.  I believe there's no way to configure the Guest network through the web ui. What you can do is try using the software that you can download from their site. Make sure to turn off any firewall on the computer when running the software to avoid conflict.  Also, I suggest that you run the downloaded software on a wired PC to avoid wireless interference. Here is the link to the software, http://support.linksys.com/en-us/support/routers/E2000/download . Hope this helps.

  • Windows 8.1 and Cisco Connect Incompatable

I've upgrades a couple of PC's to Windows 8.1.  Upon discovering the printer attached to my E4200 v1 by its USB port was not showing after the upgrade, I re-ran Cisco Connect to re-install the printer.
----At this point I'd like to say up front that the E4200 is running the latest firmware, and I am using the latest Cisco Connect available - albeit 2 years old.-----
Cisco Connect gets as far as the USB Printer connect button before displaying an error page telling me "our customer support can help" and giving a link to a support page that doesn't work.  Typical Cisco I fear.......
Digging deeper, the Windows Device Manager is showing the system device SXUPTP driver has been blocked from loading, quote:
"The software for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Contact the hardware vendor for a new driver. (Code 48)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."
Clicking on "Check for solutions" doesn't find one (typical Microsoft), and letting Windows search for a newer driver doesn't find anything either.
Both PC's, a laptop and a desktop, are the behaving the same - so not a PC issue.  Both worked with Windows 8.0.
So what's the story Cisco?  We need a Connect update, or at least a fixed driver - when will we see this?
    Thnx.

Ok - no thanks to Cisco, I seemed to have found an answer.  This is unofficial, do at your own risk.  Creating a system restore point first would be sensible.
The clue is the Cisco SXUPTP driver is copyright to Silex.  The E4200 must have a Silex chip on board to talk to the USB port, and the SXUPTP driver on the PC is what talks to the chip.  I visited the Europe Silex site (the US site is harder to get through - it wants you to know which Silex chip you've got as a starting point) at:
    http://www.silexeurope.com/en/home/support/productgroups/common-downloads/
I downloaded SX-Virtual Link 3.12.0 dated 29.05.2013 (05/29/2013 in US speak).  This downloaded a zip file called s-33a3120a.zip. I unzipped the contents and ran Cosetup.exe to install.  After a restart I now have a functioning SXUPTP driver 3.7.1.0.  (Forget what the original Cisco one was - 3.5.0.0?)
Ran Cisco Connect again, and all proceeded as normal.  Printer re-installed.
The Silex setup program also installs a piece of software called SX Virtual Link, which seems to offer some low level control over the link to the E4200 USB port.  I haven't had a play with this.
So why did I have to hack my way through this?  Why didn't Cisco post Windows 8 updates BEFORE it was released, let alone 8.1?  NOT impressed.

  • Cisco Connect does not run with Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

When I first installed Cisco Connect that came with my E1500 router, I was running Mac OSX Snow Leopard (10.7) and it worked fine.  I upgraded my OSX to Mountain Lion and now when I start Cisco Connect, I get:
    Unsupported operating system
The router software supports these operating systems:
    - Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later
    - Mac OS X 10.6.1 or later
    - Mac OS X 10.7 or later
I saw some other thread/info/download on Cisco Connect with Lion (10.7) but nothing for Moutain Lion (10.8) - is there a fix forthcoming?
    Thanks

All i want to do is disable the guest function through cisco. i live in an apartment and everyone logs into my guest account. i was at my neighbours and they were laughing saying they done need to subscribe for the internet cause they just log onto local wi fi. and mine is one of them. i dont know if that'll slow down my internet with so many people using it. but all i want to do is just avoid it all together and get rid of it. but in this case i am having the same problem as all of you. to disable the guest function you need to go through cisco connect and it is not compatible with mac osx mountain lion. grrrrrrr

  • Mountain Lion 10.8.4-Cisco Connect-shutdowns kernel panic error-EA6500

    I have:
    - Mac Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.4
    - EA6500 with the latests updates (firmware..) all downloaded from Linksys web
When I install Cisco Connect to setup a USB printer, the software has some kind of conflict with OS X 10.8.4 and the system has unexpected & repentine shutdowns with a restart shutdown panic error report.
If I unistall Cisco Connect the problem doesn´t happen again
After checking all available guides and software, there is no way to solve the issue. I also chat with Linksys support and they have no idea how solve it.
It is for sure a problem of Cisco Connect software compatibility with OS X 10.8.4.
Please, some solution from Linksys or a workaround with Mac terminal commands?
DON´T INSTALL CISCO CONNECT SOFTWARE TILL ISSUE SOLVED!!

Cisco Connect would not work with a router using a Linksys Smart Wifi firmware. Also, VUSB is not going to work with MAC OS 10.8 yet. Hopefully Linksys would release an update that would support MAC 10.8 on VUSB.

  • How do I delete Cisco connect w/o the software?

I installed Cisco Connect about 8 years ago. Since that time, my router died, and I installed a new router. Also in the interim I completely discarded all of the software, as I had though, I had properly removed all remnents of it on my imac. Recently out of the blue, I have been recieving the message, please enter your "Cisco Connect guest password," several times a day. I don't know it, and certaintly don't need to enter it, since I am using a new router. How do I remove this intrusive software, from my computer.

Thankyou Jane, I'm an idiot. According to my network connections it turns out is my network, and I never replaced my router. Still I only use the main network, and never the guest network. I looked for the software, that came wt my router, and can't locate it anymore. That is why I thought that it was a new router. Still I don't have any need for the guest network. I couldn't figure out how to just delete the guest network. So I took a chance and removed all of the WiFi networks. I'm not exactly sure why, but my main network still operates on my device. Also my Bluray player is still able to access my main network. My computer and blue-ray might be working on my Xfinity WiFi, but the main network still displays on my sevice. Hopefully my computer doesn't ask me for the guest password anymore.

Did you use the setup cd that came w/ the router? If yes, how about you download the one that is on the cisco's support site.  If that won't work still, setup the router manually. Btw, are you trying to setup the router manually or the router is already working and you just want to install the Cisco Connect software?

  • Can Cisco Connect be password protected?

I set up a E3200 today for a friend who has a small business. He has 6 staff in his office where it is installed.
I installed it using the web interface for the router, but wanted to show him how to change the guest password using the Cisco Connect software. He also wanted to block Facebook and a couple other time-wasting sites with the parental controls.
When we started Cisco Connect, we were both shocked to see that the guest and private wireless password were viewable from the main screen with just a click or two through different windows. No where did it prompt us for a password to enter the setup portions.I understand that you have to be on the LAN to get access to this, but this means that if any of his staff are computer savvy, they could hit the Linksys website themselves and download the Cisco Connect software and make any changes they want.
Is there a way to protect the router from unintended changes from someone using the Cisco Connect software?

In my opinion, this seems to be a HUGE security issue.
If I knew someone was using a Linksys router in a small office, and I wanted to hack it. All I would do is put Cisco Connect on a laptop, walk in to that office, find an open network port and connect my laptop to it. I could capture all the security settings and then leave and come back later to get on their wifi network.
I understand about physical security, social engineering, and all that. I just cant believe that the passwords to the router / wifi are freely accessible through a software app which requires no authentication to get in to. Seems like a very half-baked application.

  • How do I get Cisco Connect back?

I bought the Linsky E2000, and after I installed it Cisco Connect was installed too. Someone in my household uninstalled Cisco Connect so now my Linsky gaming adapter wont work so my laptop and PS3 can't go on the internet. How do I get Cisco Connect back?

I gave up on Cisco Connect the same way I did the stock E300 firmware, so it's now moot to me. The one thing I found with the Connect software was that if you make a change to the router setup from the web interface, Connect lis likely to no work anymore.
I was able to get it back a couple of times by changing the XML config file on *all* the machines. Most of the connect testing period, I wound up doing a 30-30-30 reset on the router and reconfiguring from scratch. No more, since I went to TomatoUSB.

  • E1550 - Error code 82BD0119, Cisco Connect gives connection timeout error during setup

During setup, after 90% completion I get "adapter connection timeout period expired". I'm unable to configure my router.
I downloaded the lates Cisco Connect software and tried that as well but I get the same problem.
Operating System : Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 (32 bit).
Any help will be apreciated. Thanks.

I believe you have a static IP address assigned in the computer. Here are the steps to check for the wireless:
~~ Go to Wireless network connection properties.
~~ Click On Internet protocol TCP/IP and go to properties.
~~ Select 'Obtain IP address automatically' and 'Obtain DNS server automatically'.
~~ Click OK and then close.
Check for the Local Area Connection as well in the same procedure.
Then uninstall the existing Cisco connect software, reset the router.
    Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. After this process reconfigure the router. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After performing the following steps install the Cisco connect again and check the status.

  • E3000 Router without Cisco Connect

I just setup my new E3000 which in general is working great.  Being a Cisco geek at work, my first step was to connect via http and toss the Cisco Connect CD to the side.  After getting the basics setup to mimic my old Cisco 871W, I started to look into some of the whiz bang features on teh E3000.
The first one that I wanted to take advantage of was having a different SSID for the 5GHz band from the 2.4GHz band.  In the web interface this seemed simple to do, but although the SSID was showing up on my laptop I was unable to connect to it.  As soon as I made the SSIDs the same, my laptop connected to the 5GHz side or 2.4GHz just fine.  Is there some magic to getting this setup?
The other feature I wanted to setup was the Guest access.  Unfortunately it looks like this feature is hidden unless you use Cisco Connect and if you don't use 192.168.1.1 for your router Cisco Connect can't see it.  Am I missing something somewhere?
    Thanks,

I initially had a different SSID for the 5GHz band and was able to connect my Wireless-N bridge to it without any problems. However, hours later, both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands flaked out, and now I can't get anything to connect to them. The wired portion of my router works fine. I'll be doing a firmware reinstall and 30/30/30 hard reset tomorrow. I assume it might be an issue with the firmware being 1.0. if it's not, it's being returned for another unit.
As for guest access, yes, you can only adjust it through Cisco Connect. There is no web UI option for it. If you change the password of your router, its default IP, and possibly its name, Cisco Connect will not work.
Cisco really screwed up this release. Hopefully the next firmware release will fix all of this.
