Cisco Switches and Dell EqualLogic PS series integration

Scanrio: In head office there is Dell EqualLogic PS series and in branch also same for replicaiotn from head office to branch i want to know the ios feature set of Switch and Router.

If the Dell EqualLogic systems are using iSCSI to communicate there is no specific feature required on the Cisco gear. The Cisco gear will pass iSCSI traffic just like any other IP traffic.
Make sense?
Cheers,
Brad

  • Cisco 2950 and Dell Powerconnect 5224

I am trying to Cascade a cisco 2950 and dell powerconnect 5224. I am connecting port 32 on the 2950 and port 24 (gigport) on the dell. Any idea on how I can get the cascading to work? This is what I have on the Dell and the cisco.
    Dell Powerconnect 5224:
    interface ethernet 1/24
switchport allowed vlan add 1 untagged
    switchport native vlan 1
    switchport mode trunk
switchport allowed vlan add 1,10 tagged
    Cisco 2950:
    interface FastEthernet0/32
    switchport access vlan 10
    switchport mode trunk
Dell documentationon casdcading between powerconnect and catalyst 4000 talks about setting up GVRP on both the dell and cisco switches. However, 2950 doesn't have GVRP.
    http://www.dell.com/downloads/global/products/pwcnt/en/app_note_4.pdf
    Any ideas, tips. Thanks.

    Try this instead:
    Dell:
    interface ethernet 1/24
switchport allowed vlan add 1 untagged
    switchport native vlan 1
    switchport mode trunk
switchport allowed vlan add 10 tagged
    Cisco 2950:
    interface FastEthernet0/32
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk allow vlan 1,10
    switchport nonegotiate
You don't need "switchport access vlan 10" on the Cisco because it's not in access mode, it's in trunk mode. And on the Dell you don't want vlan 1 to be tagged and untagged.
    Good luck.

  • Cisco switches and virtual ip address(load balancing address) on xenapp portals

Hi I am quite new in configuring cisco switches and stumble across an issue after installing xenapp7.6 with load balanced portal to the ddc`s
It seems i only can ping or get access to portal if using real ip address behind cisco switch from other subnets in my network.
I can ping ddc01 and ddc02 and connect to the portal with http without problem. However when i triy to access the load balancing address of the ddc`s
it wont answer to ping or http
In same subnett it is no problem connecting to the load balancing address of the ddc`s, but in loactions on other subnets i only can access real server ip
    eks
dd01   192.168.1.4    ok ping and access behind cisco switch from subnets
ddc02 192.168.1.5   ok to ping  access behind cisco switch from subnets
load balancing for both ddc 192.168.1.6 not able to get answer og access from subnets, only in same subnett
Is there any way to configure switch to access the load balancing address of the ddc`s ?

    Hi adil,
For your issue, you can create a custom security token service (STS) and then set up a trust relationship between a SharePoint 2010 farm and the custom STS.

  • Cisco switches and 802.1.x

    Hi, there !
I have a question for you.
Cisco all switches, is it impossible to present for 802.1x ?
I try to put a network access server in our network to authenticate.
    Thanks.
    I will wait your answer.

Most Cisco switches will handle 802.1x, but it depends on the switch and the OS. Which specific ones are you considering?

Your command doesn't work because it's made only for tha ports that has command "spanning-tree portfast" in them. Try change spanning tree mode at the HP switch to MSTP if this is possible.

  • Connect cisco 3750X and Dell N4032F

    Hi,
I need to connect 2 diferent networks (192.168.x.x vs 10.44.x.x). this connection will be temporal because network 192.168.x.x will be migrated to 10.44.x.x.
On one side I have a Dell N4032F (L3) and on the other side a Cisco 3750X. What I need is just visibility between them? Wich is the best way to do it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
On the 3750X, you need to configure the IP address on the interface connecting to Dell.
    example:
    config t
    interface gix/x
    ip address 10.44.1.1 255.255.255.0
    no sh
Not sure what you need on the Dell side.

  • Cisco Switching and Apple Computers

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with running Macs' on their Cisco networking equipment. It seems to only be one generation of IMacs' that disable ports on our switches. I do realize many variables may have a role in disabling port settings but it's only a chosen few that it happens with. Not having the authority to program each port being disabled to run in full duplex mode versus default settings from manufacturing in auto-negotiate I'm at a loss. Even after explaining the solution, nothing gets done. My question is could someone post some documentation of some sort backing up my theories? Also if anyone could please include anything about proper port settings for access points on our VLANs that also become disabled at times. I do know through research done that all access points should be classified as such on the network. Am I correct in stating this also? I thank you in advance for any information or help you may provide for me and posts will be rated.

  • Need help with troubleshooting VPN betwen Cisco 2911 and Dell Sonicwall 4060

    Hello all,
I am trying to set up a VPN Tunnel between the devices mentioned above.  The tunnel appears to be established, but I've encountered some issues along the way.  I can ping from the Cisco 2911 to a server behind the Sonicwall, but I cannot ping from that server to the Cisco router unless the router is pinging the server at the same time.  What should I do to fix this problem?
UPDATE:  The tunnel is no longer working between the two devices.  The end result I am looking for is to have a VPN tunnel between these two devices which does NAT and allows me to ping across without having to constantly ping to keep the session open.  Before the tunnel went down, I was able to ping that server behind the sonicwall using a port on the inside of the firewall as a source port for the ping, and at one point I was able to ping back to the router from the server, but was unable to ping beyond that interface.  I think the problem that I am running into has to do with the zone-based firewall configurations that are already on the router.  I don't want to mess with those configurations already in place, but I am not sure how to get this tunnel working.  I'm fairly certain I need to start from the beginning in regards to this tunnel, but I cannot figure out how to configure this the right way.
Thanks in advance for any help

Finally the testing is successful on Sonicwall NSA 240 as well with Cisco ASA. Actually somehow Sonicwall firewall was discovering my VPN Box's Public leg (Private IP (10.10.50.10)) as well, which was behind a Live Peer IP (203.124.x.x). As per security policies it shouldnt have been discovered on the remote end. i will bring this in Cisco TAC notice.
Logs of Sonicwall were showing ASA local ike id as "203.124.x.x" & ASA Remote ike id "10.10.50.10".
Sonicwall sets these two parameters with PSK (local ike id & remote ike id). This is other than setting the Peer IP. i asked my client to add my ASA actual and NAT IP in these two parameters and the VPN got UP.

  • Cisco CE565 and Router 3COM 3012 series

I would like to know that does Router 3com 3012 supports protocal WCCP in able to work with cisco content engine CE565 for transparent proxy mode?

From what I've seen the simple answer is No, the 3012 is quite a low specification router. I've also been told that not all implementations of WCCPv2 are equal, don't know if this is FUD or not but I think my recommendation would be to use a Cisco router to perform transparent redirection. At least the support will be better if you done run into issues.

  • Cisco Switches (2960 Series) Management

We are managing these devices using HP OpenView Network Node Manager (Ver. 7.5) on HP-UX platform.
What are the known problems, limitations on its initial discovery and on later stages of managing the same ?

The Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series supports the Cisco IOS LAN BASE software image. This software image is a rich suite of intelligent services that is also available in a crypto image at no additional charge.
Cisco Network Assistant also offers centralized management and configuration of Cisco switches and other Cisco devices such as routers and wireless access points. With Cisco Network Assistant, in addition to configuring multiple switches at a time, you can configure Cisco wireless access points, and invoke the Device Manager on Cisco routers and access points. Cisco Network Assistant can be downloaded (available at no cost).

  • Cisco Architectures for 2950/2960 Switches and 2800 Routers

    Hello,
I have a question regarding the architectures of these three series, i.e. the type of switch fabric they use and the general architecture (first, second, or third generation regarding the sharing of the bus, memory and the type of switch fabric). We have so far learned these three generation and our assumption is that the only generation being produced now is the third (crossbar) generation, but so far we have to information to back up this claim. We are doing a study on buffer sizing in edge routers/switches so knowing the exact architecture of each model is our priority.
Thank you for reading and thanks in advance for the answers.

Exact details on Cisco switch and/or router architecture can be hard to come by, as much of the information, Cisco appears to consider proprietary.
Most switches have some kind of cross bar architecture.  Overall bandwidth tends to be higher in later variants (to support higher port densities and/or higher bandwidth ports).  Later switch architectures are less likely to block at ports.  However, there are often other architecture changes which may improve or worsen performance.  For example, 2960 tends to have more fabric bandwidth than the 2950, but the 2960 has different port buffer management (I believe) from the 2950, often resulting in more port drops with bursty traffic.
True routers, like the 2800 series, I believe use a PCI bus, with additional bandwidth restrictions to the modules.  They will well support the WAN bandwidths they are recommended for, but they do not well support LAN port bandwidths.  Again, specific architecture details can be hard to come by.

  • Add Cisco Switch into a configuration

I have a Dell 6248 switch with three VLANS defined (1,2,10).
I need to expand VLAN 10 (need more ports) on the Dell Switch.
I have downloaded the Cisco CNA.
In the attached screen of the CNA, am I on the correct display to create a new VLAN 10 ?
What is the best way to connect the Dell Switch to the Cisco?
    thanks

Yes, so far 21-24 are in VLAN 10, but I will need to set a few more .
    This is bit more complicated.
What I am looking at an old test and dev virtual infrastructure configuration that was set up with a 1GB Linksys Switch and a Dell 6248 Switch.
The reason given for the Linksys in the config is it was the only 1GB switch available at the time when the SAN had to be installed and there were no more available ports on the 6248. Running Dell Dpack reports show latency issues when migrating from an EqualLogic Volume to a MD3200 volume and from the MD3200 to Md3200 volumes (on the order of 30-45 minutes for a 20GB VM). Migrating from EqualLogic volumes to EqualLogic volumes is in seconds.
I think the Linksys is the issue as does our Dell reps. We are looking at replacing the Linksys with a Cisco or another L2/L3.
SAN traffic is isolated to VLAN 10 on the Dell Switch. I want to set up a VLAN 10 on the Cisco switch and then want to connect the Md3200 to the Cisco which will be connected to VLAN 10 on the Dell Switch for access to an EqualLogic SAN.  I am not sure what will be involved.
Is it as simple as what you are saying,, I config the VLAN10 on the Cisco switch and connect a port from the Cisco to VLAN 10 on the Dell Switch.. .
I have a diagram attached,,,it needs some updates but it is close to the config.
