Cisco works Software distribution on 3750e and 3750

Hello,
From what I have been reading, all 3750s, rather alone or in a stack, show up as stacks in RME. So in order to install the cisco IOS update through RME I need to use the .tar files. I think I have figured out how to add the tar files to RME.
My question is if I am running a 3750e as the master switch and 2 or 3 3750s as slaves, when I use the tar file in ciscoworks would I select the tar file for the 3750e and the rest will follow? Or am I wrong in thinking how this works?
Would I have to update this kind of stack manually?
Thanks

Hi,
With regards to 3750 Switches , when you take them out of the box, each 3750 switch has it's own sysObjectID that uniquely identifies what model of switch it is.  When you convert 3750 switches into a stack however the sysObjectID of each individual switch is changed to catalyst37xxStack  (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.516) .  If you subsequently dismantle the switch stack and use the switches in a standalone mode, they still retain sysObjectID of  catalyst37xxStack  (.1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.516)
* There is a procedure that you can do to revert a 3750 switch back to it's original state and hence it's original sysObjectID, but most people aren't aware of this and hence don't do it.
With regards to using RME SWIM to upgrade the IOS, of a 3750 switch stack, a few potential problems you should be aware of :
1. If you are running IOS 12.2(46)SE on any of your 3750's and you are using SSH as the SWIM transport protocol, then upgrading the IOS via SWIM will fail due to a bug in the switch SSH software. If you can use Telnet temprorarily as the transport protocol , this will work otherwise you will need to manually upgrade those switches running 12.2(46)SE
2. If you have a mixed stack ie some switches running Universal feature set and others running traditional IP ipbase feature set etc then RME SWIM will not handle this.
* An enhancement request for this has been opened, but has not yet been implemented - CSCsv73971 - "RME SWIM support for mixed stack"
3. Finally, have seen a couple of problems recently when upgrading 3750 switch stacks where by :
* RME tidies up the flash on the master switch to make sure it has enough room to copy over the tar file and then executes the 'archive download-sw ....' command on the switch to begin the transfer etc.
* The switch stack looks after copying the new image to the other members of the stack, not RME, and this fails if there is not sufficient free space on the flash of those switches to accomodate the new image. (In actual fact it doesn't just compare "free space >= image size" it looks for "free sapce >= 1.x * image size" where x is 10% or 15% ).  So it would pay to do some manual tidy up of flash on switches other than the master switch in order to ensure no problems.
I would test this in a lab before running a SWIM job to upgrade multiple devices.
What version of RME are you running ?

  • Cisco Works - need to re-use a 3560, how to delete and re-add in Cisco Works

Hello.  I did not see a cisco works section on the forum, forgive me if it's there and I missed it.  I have removed a 3560 switch from one location and am going to rename it (same IP though) and deply it in a different department.  We have cisco works sending critical and informational alerts as well as backup the configs on Sunday mornings.  I think I was able to get it to stop sending alerts when I unplugged and unhooked the switch.  I want to give the switch a new host name and re-deploy it.  I assume it will be easier to delete and then re-add the switch to cisco works.  Is the a document where I can follow steps to remove it from cisco works?  I have the documentation, but it is hard to read and they don't really have an area that specifically says "remove a switch from cisco works", and I don't want to break everything for the other 55 switches that cisco works does do the alerts and backups for.  I know cisco works is full of different modules, so I was wondering if there was a document or some type of help I could get for doing this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.  Mike Baker

    Hi,
It sounds like a tutorial may be what you are looking for. Here is one based on LMS 3.1.
    https://learningnetwork.cisco.com/docs/DOC-4031
To remove a device from DCR (Device & Credential Repository) navigate to Common Services > Device and Credentials > Device Management.
    Thanks,

  • Cisco Works does note recognise 7204VXR NPE-G2 variant IOS

I am trying to load a 7200 NPE-G2 variant IOS into our Cisco Works software repository in order to then upload it to a 7204VXR.  When browsing to the folder containing the IOS and then attempting load, Ciso Works does not recognise the NPE-G2 variants (with file names starting c7200p), however it does recognise vanilla c7200 variants.
We  are running with LMS 2.6, RME 4.0.5, DFM 2.0.6
    Do we need to upgrade?

You will need to update your RME device packages to the latest versions.  Go to Common Services > Software Center > Device Update, and check the boxes next to RME and Common Services.  Download and install all available packages, then you should be able to add the c7200p image to the repository.

  • Lost ability to connect through port forwarding after cisco guest software install

Using Remote Admin 2.2 software to remote into work computer.
E1000 I installed the cisco guest software on my pc and configured the guest about 2 months ago.
Needed to get into office PC this past weekend and connection fails.
Have a static IP address on router.  forward a single port to my office machine within the router.
Get nothing but an error on connection.  Router is 2.1.02 build 6Jan 15, 2013.
Log file shows nothing on the incoming log?  dynamic ip at home...
Another office worker, on the same internal network,  has gotomypc running and port forwarding setup on router and he is still working fine, he can access his pc from home.  The only change I have made to router was the cisco connect for guest access.
Is it possible this is stopping my remote admin?
    thanks kevin

Hey kevboac! Make sure that the computer you're using to access the remote computer is connected to the main wireless network and not to the Guest network. Being connected to the Guest network will prevent you from doing File and Printer Sharing, and Remote Access. Hope this helps!

  • Adaptiva Software Distribution not working with Cisco APs in Local Mode

A worldwide customer would like to use a new Software distribution system called Adaptiva to replace SCCM within Windows environment. As far as I understand, Adaptiva is designed to work like a snowball system. A single PC at a remote side can be "infected" with new Software and will distribute the package to other PCs within the same IP-subnet, saving WAN bandwidth.
First tests are showing that it is working well with Cisco WLAN solution as long as we are using Flexconnect WLAN APs.
Customer locations with Local WLAN AP design create problems for this new software distribution method.
The WLAN-PCs can be reached from outside, but the establishment of the Client/Server-model between the WLAN Clients is not working. The Port used by this software for communication between clients in each WLAN subnet is UDP Port 34329.
Our WLCs are running at  7.4.130.0. The problem is appearing independently of AP Multicast settings or Broadcast Forwarding.  Enabling Broadcast forwarding without Reboot did not improve the situation.
Global Multicast Mode and IGMP Snooping are also of no influence.
P2P Blocking Action is "Disabled" within the WLAN setup.
Who has any idea what might cause this communication problem between WLAN clients in Local Mode of APs ?
    Thank You for answers
    Wini

I can think of two solutions. You could 1: turn the "auto-lock" to never, so that your phone never sleeps. Or, you could 2: jailbreak your iPhone and install "insomnia". I wish we had the Cisco Mobile app. I usually use wifi/insomnia and turn data off at work since we have wireless pretty much everywhere...

  • How often should the Cisco 6509 and 3750 switches be rebooted? Does Cisco have a best practice recommendation?

How often should the 6509's and 3750's switches be rebooted?
Does Cisco have a best practice document on this and recommendation how long the switch should be up before it gets rebooted?
Why is a reboot needed if there are no indications of issues on the log?

    I'd agree with Larry here.
If you're not seeing any issues with your IOS revision and there are no relevant PSIRTs (security notices applicalble to features and or exposure of your device requiring an IOS upgrade) then you can go a very long time without rebooting, if ever.
I'm sure it's far from a record, but our corporate distribution router that supports >1000 downstream devices day in and day out has never been rebooted since installation just over 5 years ago. I have a top of rack Layer 2 switch (2900 series running CatOS) that's almost at 10 years.
That said, you should have some monitoring scheme that assures you everything is healthy. But as long as memory and cpu are happy, the device will run forever.

  • DISM Command to retrieve updates from software distribution and apply to wim file

    I'm following
this guide about slipstreaming updates into a wim file. What im attempting to is what the author outlines in step 2, namely pulling updates from the software distribution folder on a pc that has had the image applied to it and then patched to current. The
trouble I'm running into is around the command. namely this section DISM
    /image:C:\Mount
/add-package /packagepath:”%U” Running this command produces a invalid path message. What should be happening is the previous commands
are telling it to pull in any files name .cab from all of the directories, but this doesn't seem to be working. I can't define this as a static path as there are tons of sub-folders in this directory with the cab files. Am I just doing something wrong? how
    can I accomplish this?

I'm still having trouble with this. For some reason, it is stripping the % sign. So I am seeing this when I run my batch file:
    /add-package /packagepath:"u"
    or
    /add-package /packagepath:"f"
    Any ideas?

  • I just ran a software update for Java and MacBook Pro SMC, now my Mini Display Port to HDMI TV is not working. The TV is flickering. The Mac Display is fine.

I was just watching / streaming TV off Safari on my actual TV.
I'm using a Mini-Display Port to HDMI cable for the connection to the external display.
Software update popped-up and said there was an update for Java and for SMC.
I ran the update and upon the computer restarting, my external display (my TV) is no longer working. It is now flickering.
It won't work in Mirroring or set up as an extended display.
I've reset SMC / PRAM / Safe Mode / Even restored from a Time Machine backup (From before the updates were done).
    What could it be?!

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

I am having the same problem.  I even changed my password and updated all of my security information.  Now it just gives me an error and retry message, which of course also does not work.  Went to support and was going to open a chat (seemed the simpler option) and received a message that my support has expired for this serial number unless I want to pay $29.00.  So I chose the option to call later, which was the exact time suck I was trying to avoid.  Why wouldn't the new operating system also update the apps that were already part of my old platform?

I have just updated the i06 software for my iPad and it will not connect to my home wifi network - all my other devices are able to connect to my wifi network.
I have attempted all troubleshooting actions suggested and nothing has worked. I have restored my iPad network and factory settings - Please help - this is frustrating me

you have to set up your router to solve th problem. first find and write down the ipad mac address.
then log on to your router using your laptop or any device that can connect to router at 192.168.0.1 in your web browser. please check out my posting about how to resolve the wifi connection problem.
i think the ios6 update has reset the networking but if you set up the router then you should not have the same problem any more.

I installed iWork11 but the '09 versions of the software are still running--and the default. What do I need to do to get the '11 versions working?

It's very simple. If you want to use iPhoto, just let it manage things as it does. Other than that: Export from iPhoto and delete the image from iPhoto. That will remove the master and all versions.
If space is an issue... use an external disk.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.

The link provided as part of the Adobe Reader and Runtime Software Distribution License Agreement, for downloading the PKG to mass-deploy Adobe Flash Player to my users (so I can update their machines to protect against yet another Flash exploit) keeps redirecting to typekit.com.
How do I go about getting the latest PKG so I can deploy the fix?

Can you try clearing your cache?  This was indeed a problem earlier today (sorry!) but should be corrected now.
