Citrix VDI-in-a-Box and DSFW
Hi,
I'm trying to authenticate vab to a fresh installation of DSFW in an existing tree on OES11 SP1 (with latest patches), but vab failed to find the domain. I took a LDAP trace and it failed when it search for :
Filter: (&(objectClass=domain)(distinguishedName=dc=exampl e, dc=com))
I tried the ldap request manually and it finds no result. If I remove the space between "dc=example," and "dc=com", it works as expected. I verified the schema and distinguishedName is declared as SYN_DIST_NAME, which seems correct and should not care about spaces between commas. I tried with another attribute declared as SYN_DIST_NAME on eDirectory and it works as expected with or without spaces.
Is this a known bug of DSFW? What could I do to circumvent the problem?

Thanks for reaching to us. Please help us understand the following,
1. Whether if this search is from XenDesktop and if so, its release version OR any other specific product ?
2. Operation that you are attempting here which is leading to this failure.
3. Whether if this search is done by the product internally without any manual input or if it is the user input that is taken by the product that comes as filter?
4. Copy us the exact LDAPSEARCH command that you are using to reproduce the behavior and the ndstrace output you are mentioning.
We tried the following search and found it working where there is space in filter DN as you mentioned.

I am attempting to connect an evaluation VDI-in-a-Box to a DSfW environment.
I have successfully joined the appliance to a DSfW domain after applying all patches to the DSfW server.
All appears well starting out with the setup. However, I have observed the following problem.
Normal Scenario
In a Microsoft AD Domain, the virtual desktop exhibits no problems after the Citrix Desktop Agent (dtagent) is installed.
DSfW Scenario
Joining the virtual desktop to the domain exhibits no problems until after the Citrix Desktop Agent is installed. After installation of the dtagent, all user profiles stop functioning after reboot. As a result, many services fail during boot, and logins no longer function with various errors including "User Profile Service Failed the Logon," "Access Denied," and "RPC Service is Unavailable." Safe Mode also fails with the system rebooting before a logon screen appears.
I am looking for insight into this problem and am wondering if anyone on the list can point me in the right direction.Hi,
I have tried this already with good and bad result.
My problem was the following, with a "old" tree without the country top object there was no way to to provisioning vdi-in-abox desktops, you have to be able to do a ldap search in the format cn=domain,cn=ad and that does not work if you install dsfw in a existing tree.
But if you are aware of that and create a new dsfw tree with the country top object, it should work fine or at least did that for me after getting some help from Novell's dsfw team.
I did have issues using the Swedish spelled standard administrator after changing to English spelled administrator (and no non English characters in the password), but this was more a Kaviza thing I think.
So I can say that it should work with dsfw and I have not see the problem you are facing, so I'm not to much help to you there.
But at least you know that it is possible.
I had no issues installing the desktop agent in Windows 7 (x86 and x64) or Windows XP.

We using VDI-in-a-Box 5.2 and DSfW of OES11 SP1.
When I configure VDI-in-a-Box 5.2 initial set up on web console.
I got error message "Could not connect to the user database at xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx with user administrator in domain xxxxx.com."

Please confirm if you are entering the IP address of your Domain Controller/DNS Server, the domain name, and the corresponding administrative login credentials in the user database option. The domain administrator must be the Database administrator too.
If you are not able to figure out the reason for failure, request you to raise an SR with NTS. Our support will be able to resolve it.

I've got my feelers out there, and could set up AmazonWorkspaces/EC2 instances (~$500/mo.), have talked to about 3 other vendors...
So once again it's a tall order. Has anyone got a provider they're proud of that can get a 5 user network (using Netscaler/VDI-In-A-Box) ramped up by late next week?

. Every time i click on it says to reopen or dont reopen. i press reopen i gives me this long screen and it says reopen or press okay. when i press ok it closes the box and doesnt open. when i press reopen the long screen and stays like that.
If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
if it's not already checked. -

You think I'm being petty? Go try to research what a particular file is - for example, go see if you can find info on "bib.dll".
It wants to make it into a URL. It's not a URL. It may LOOK like one, but it's a name, honest!
Putting quotes around it doesn't help. Maybe I'm missing the advanced syntax it takes to get such a thing to be a search term instead of a URL. Even if so, how is this an improvement or simplification? It's certainly not intuitively obvious how
to force a search, short of dredging up a link to Google and typing info in there directly.
Doing a search and typing in an address are two FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT THINGS.
And hey, it's not a big deal that you can no longer see what it was you searched for, and maybe even edit it and search again. No, because now the search engine pages have to waste space to put up a box showing what you just searched for, since it's
now GONE out of the address field.

You say that thinking along the lines of "you no longer had to think about which box you want to type into" helped justify the change.
Is there something wrong with thinking? This is akin to saying, "you no longer had to think about which nozzle at the gas station to fill your tank from".

Alas, what the simple users of the general public want and what experienced computer users need are clearly two different things, and it's clear looking back that this move simply marked another step in Microsoft's clear intent
to walk away from making serious computer operating systems that actually
work. Windows 8 is testament to that (and don't tell me you haven't noticed all the negative response). Other such things include Windows Search - which is designed to be unable to actually do an exhaustive search... Even going
back as far as hiding file extensions by default. And don't get me started on the use of telemetry to justify deprecating such things as Windows Backup.
Do you understand the difference between leading and following? Which, as a concept, would you say is better? You need to stay the hell away from trying to emulate what Google does. You can do better! If you want a different
example, follow Firefox - it still has a search box. Even Apple - known for dumbing things down to the level of the family dog - stil puts a search box in Safari.
I don't mean to be critical of your response, Ed, but this is a good example of "the operation was a success but the patient died".
Thank goodness there are 3rd party developers who are struggling to put back functionality Microsoft keeps removing. But then Microsoft removes the APIs they use. That's not going to keep!

Hello Everyone
I have two drop downs. Both are coming from look up fields from two lists. i want to set a default value(first list item) for the first drop down list box and then apply cascading based on the default value for the next drop down list box. I found one article(http://www.bizsupportonline.net/infopath2010/display-first-item-drop-down-list-box-infopath-2010.htm)
where in i can set a default value but i can't apply cascading based on that default value. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

BT Vision Box and Remote Control not working prope...
Hi,
Can anybody help me please?
I have a black BT Vision Box. The remote control had increasingly been sticking so tonight I just turned the power off tonight, left it off for 20 seconds and turned it back on.
It seemed to turn back on and reboot itself normally, it took the amount of time it normally does on a couple of occasions when it froze a few months back. However since I rebooted it approximately 3 hours ago it has been turning itself off and rebooting itself every 10 minutes or so. On one occasion when I turned it off on the front of the machine and left it for a few minutes, it turned itself on and started rebooting itself again.
The remote control is worse than when it was sticking, now there is a delay of up to 30 seconds after I press a button. Sometimes it does not work at all, when that happens it just becomes stuck and eventually reboots itself.
So far I have tried turning it off and on again, I have also tried rebooting the internet connection (which is working fine). I have tried pressing the off button on the actual box for 10 seconds and resetting it that way. I have put new batteries in the remote. Nothing has worked. If anyone can help me that would be great.

Unfortunately I can't get that far now.
I turned all TV related systems off last night in an effort to see if it would work properly today.
I came home from work and turned everything on. The system boots itself up until it gets to a grey screen that says "Nearly there..." with the BT logo in the bottom right corner. It stays like that for approximately one minute. Then it turns itself off and starts rebooting itself again.
I have tried pressing the on/off button on the front of the box and holding it in for 10 secs or so until the box turns itself off and reboots but the effect is still the same as above.
Do you have any other suggestions pleaase, aside from throwing it in the bin? -

Just had upgrade on bt vision box and states i have no broadband connection. (direct connection to router) I had to go into router and turn off smart set-up. now what ever happened to the old plug and play. your standard job bloggs is going to rip his hair out. found no information any where.
