Clarification re Pro account

I understand that to publish single or multi-folio apps across different platforms (i.e. Android, iPhone, Kindle) requires at least a Pro level account.  I also understand that there is a charge per folio download after the initial subscription folio allotment has been used up.
What I am unsure is about is whether it is necessary to maintain a pro-level account in order to keep the said apps in the App Store and allow for customers to continue to download folios that have already been published.
Essentially, what I would like to know is whether it is possible to sign up for a Pro account for, say, three months only and during that time publish several cross-platform publications.  If, after two or three months, a designer were to revert back to a standard Creative Cloud membership, would he/she still be able to purchase additional folio downloads to allow people to continue to download the previously published publications?
Your help is appreciated!
R.

No. The folios are hosted by Adobe. If you stop paying they stop hosting.

  • Created an Adobe Pro account but now being asked to upgrade

Created a new Adobe Pro account to use FormsCentral mainly but today we started getting the following message in emails when forms have been responded to.
The quota for free usage is 50 responses for the form.
Upgrade to receive up to 5000 responses.
Now in FormsCentral I am getting the "Ready for your next form? Get more forms and view more responses with a paid subscription".
The MyPlan page shows "Your current plan is Acrobat Pro subscription (one year)".
Rather annoying as we cannot create any more forms at our busiest time of the year.
Support is apparently looking into it.  But with a wait time of 48 hours ....

The currently installed flash player version is 11.5, even though I am constantly being told I need to upgrade to it. There are some pages that ask four and five times as any advertisement using flash triggers this alert, so if a page has 5 ads, I get the message that Adobe wants to make changes to my system 5 times.

  • Flickr plugin does not "replace" when uploading after elimination of Flickr Pro accounts

When uploading an image to flickr it has been possible for Pro accounts to re-upload a photo and replace an existing upload. This "replace" functionality keeps intact any comments, ratings, "favorites" etc that the photo has accumulated on the Flickr website since the original image was uploaded. The Lightroom Flickr plugin (authored by Adobe) has always correctly limited this "replace" functionality to Pro accounts (flickr did not allow the API call for non-pro accounts).
With the recent flickr policy change eliminating Pro accounts, flickr has enabled the replacement functionality for all users. However, the Lightroom flickr plugin still performs a check for a Pro account and does not attempt to replace a previously uploaded image if a user has a non-pro account (which is now all accounts that were not grandfathered in as Pro). The plugin currently uses the older behavior of first deleting the image and then uploading a new image, thus losing all comments, history, views, bookmarks etc that the old image has accumulated.
There is another non-adobe flickr plugin, and the author of that plugin stated on his web site that simply using the old Pro "replace" API call now works for normal flickr accounts.
I recognize that this flickr policy change happened recently, but I'd like to be sure that Adobe is aware of this change so that the next point release of Lightroom will include a change to the built-in flicker plugin to remove the check for Pro accounts and allow all users to replace photos. I used this feature a lot when I was a pro subscriber, and I think all flickr users of Lightroom would appreciate this change. It is still possible for all users to replace an image on Flickr by exporting to a jpg from Lightroom and then uploading the replacement through the web site, but enabling the plugin would obviously be better for customers.

I worked with Gokul from Adobe support, and we eventually stumbled into the solution.
    The system clock was wrong!
Based on something Friedl says on the blog for his Flickr plugin, the Flickr authentication APIs will fail if the system clock is wrong.  His plugin helpfully points out that the clock is wrong when you install it.  It also reports the error that he gets from the Flickr APIs: HTTP 401 (not authorized).  Unfortunately, Lightroom's builtin Flickr publishing plugin doesn't report any error, and it just fails silently.
In my case, Windows appeared to be displaying the correct time, but the time zone was incorrect, and my system time was actually 3 hours ahead.  I reset the clock and timezone and restarted Lightroom.  Now, the builtin Flickr publish plugin is working again.

  • Moving app to a client's Pro account

I am in the process of updating a single Edition app into a multiiedition app so we can have an Android version as well as iPad. (The previous app was developed by me and was eventually transfered to my Client's Apple developer account). The client has a new Adobe DPS Pro account and I have been given access to it via the master account ID.
I would like to update the existing app in their Apple developer account, if possible. but wonder whether there may be issues with certificates and provisioning files as the old app was also developed on a different mac.
I've also read a bit online about creating users on their account, but don't want to assign my Adobe ID to it as I develop apps for myself as well.
Could you advise me on where to start, as it seems very complicated!

No, there is no way. She can have applications from more than one iTunes account be used on her iPhone though but to update those apps then she would need your password. If I were you, I would just periodically check for updates on iTunes and when you have the change just update them in iTunes and the next time your wife syncs her iPhone to iTunes the new versions would be transferred to her phone.

  • Update an Single edition app with different (pro) account

    Hello,
I have question regarding updating SE apps.
    1. From what I understand you can still create single edition apps for ipads after May 1st with a pro account, correct?
    2. If I create an app now, with my CC account, can I later, after May 1st, create a professional account under a different name (company name, not mine) and update my old app? (assuming that my apple account and certificates stays the same)
    Thank you
    Alex

    1. Yes.
    2. Yes.

  • We have a Pro account expires in August.

We have a Pro account expires in August. We know the new Payment Pro Account Our question is what happens to the apps that we have created with this account. We need to create a pro account for each app already created? If not, if we renew the pro account, we can make updates to the apps already created before?

You can continue to update your existing apps. You need to create separate Pro accounts only if you need to create new apps.

  • DPS Pro Account

We are small design firm and have planned launch 3 different mags next year. Each Mazazine Folio will have 4 issue per year. My question is: we need 3 DPS pro Account? Or we can publish the 3 Mags with only one?
    Thanks

You would only need 1 DPS account.
But you would have to submit (potentially) 3 apps to the app store for approval from Apple.  Unless you were going to create (1) main app that would house 3 different magazines.
You would also want to create different Adobe ID's so that you can capture your stats/Analystics for these magazines.
    Hope this helps.
    Ryan.

  • DPS Pro account and a multi-folio app distribution + analytics

Okay, here is the thing again.
I have talked to my client and explained him about how complex it is to track each individual (out of 30) who views a folio.
So now, he basically would be happy just to know the overall time, of how long a folio has been viewed, and also to see, which articles have been viewed the most and for how long.
I believe, analytics can provide this data without any problems, am I right? The question is, can this be seen with baseline analytics or I would need SiteCatalyst for this?
If I understand correctly, getting a Pro account would give me the possibility to create a single multi-folio app, which could contain many folios inside. I could delete and add them without the need to wait for some approvals from Apple?
But the main question is, how can I distribute this multi-folio app to specific people? Can it be sent via some link or something? Because this app is not for public use.

You need an enterprise account for private distribution.
You could fake all this by using the Adobe Content Viewer and putting a web overlay on each page with a link back to a hidden web page with google analytics. That would give you very basic idea of what's being looked at assuming each user is on line. Beyond that you have to use enterprise.

I would like to upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Pro. I have an existing Formcentral Plus account. If I upgrade to the PRO account will my Formcentral Plus account be linked to the upgraded Acrobat Pro account?

Define "access the cloud". I can access my iCloud.com account on my 5 year old iMac at work running OS X 10.4.11 Tiger. I can download and upload Word documents and Pages documents in the iWorks section of my iCloud.com account.
What do you want to access in "the cloud"?
Snow Leopard would be your next system upgrade and you should be OK with the CS3 applications, and Office 2008. I cannot confirm that the other applications will work.
This is quite old, but take a look or Google the other applications to see if they are compatible with SL.

  • Social sharing in single edition with pro account

    Hello,
I'm confused by the explanation on the Adobe website, so if anyone could explain to me the following, that'd be nice!
A client of us has a Professional account for DPS, but so far he has only used it to make a Single Edition app. Now this client would like to add Social Sharing features to his app, but everywhere I look I find that Social Sharing is only available for Professional accounts.
In this instance, the client has a Professional account, but just hasn't used to make Multifolio apps. Is it possible in this case to add Social Sharing to his Single Edition app? After all, he does have a Pro account?
    Thanks!

Is there actually a reason why not?
I mean, if it's possible to implement this in multi-folio apps, I can imagine that someone might want to share something that's in a single edition.  In my opinion, this just doesn't make sense and is one more letdown for the entire DPS thing...
Guess we'll have to try to explain this to our customer or look for an alternative method for digital publishing instead of DPS.

  • Single Edition pricing for a DPS Pro account

We have launched a free Single Edition app thru our DPS Pro account - (in App Builder selected the Single Edition tab)

  • Freelance (DPS pro account) query

    Hi all,
Bob Levine has kindly cleared up a lot of my confusion on this for which I'm very grateful.  However I have a final query that I thought I'd ask here if that's ok.
I am a freelance designer specialising in printed magazines and I'd ideally want to be able to offer ios/android newstand versions to existing and new clients.  In my head I thought I could purchase a pro DPS account and be able to do this, but I've found out that even with the pro account I could only make 1 multi-folio app.
So for me to offer this as a service I'd have to have my clients each purchase a pro account for their app and I would design their publication/folios for it.  Obviously the client would have to manage payments of their account, otherwise I could end up with a number of different accounts on behalf of numerous clients to take care of!
Now, if the above is correct, then what is the advantage of buying a pro account over going with one of the many companies who give you their own inDesign plug in and deal with submission etc, sometimes for slightly cheaper, than the pro account subscription.  Is it just a case of having more freedom with the design if you use the DPS plug-in?
I'm obviously missing something but I'm trying to get a clear understanding of the costs of different options  before I dive in.  I wish the adobe info would do that :/
Hope that's clear, sorry if it's not!
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ian

Thanks for the reply Brian.  I totally agree that a small or individual licence to publish apps would be a much more elegant solution.  I mean the clients would have their own apple id so the certs etc would be in their name.  I'm amazed it's this convoluted.
It seems that it would be clearer if instead of calling the different accounts 'licences' or 'accounts', they should just say it's a monthly app maintenance fee or something like that, because it really is linked to the app that's created rather than the professional designer who created it.
I'd be interested though in your thoughts on the benefits of going with Adobe's publishing suite over one of the other companies out there.  I'm very much an adobe user of course so I naturally look at the DPS first in the hopes that it would be the best for inDesign interaction, but there's some pretty big publications that use plug-ins from other companies, although I'd still have the same hassle with having to manage different 'accounts' for different apps/clients.

  • Report Suite/Analytics problem with Pro Account

I have a Pro account and want to set up the Application role so I can actually build my app and insert a shared secret for the free subscription my app offers.
However, after I've specified my app name and shared secret, I leave the report suite fields blank and click submit, but it still says 'Report Suite is required to set up analytics'. I then can't go any further - it won't allow me to save the shared secret. What is the issue?
I thought this only applied to Enterprise subscribers??

Yes, Pro customers should not have to enter a report suite name and a company name since Pro customers use a shared report suite. They may be an issue with your account.
It's best if you contact DPS Gold support for this. The contact information is in DPS Dashboard under 'Manage and Contact Gold Support'.
