Clip question

Hello all, happy to have a new problem to bring to everyone's attention.
I'm on my first voyage with the Smooth Cam effect (another reason to keep producers off the camera). There are some places where I have to apply it and it's worked pretty well. The problem is that it analyzes the whole master clip rather than the clip in the timeline that I want to apply it to. This takes forever. Is there a way to only apply it to what's in the timeline?
I figure that I could somehow isolate the part of the clip that I want to use. Maybe make a new clip?
Thanks!

  • Using You Tube video clips question:

After importing several clips from You Tube (of varying quality) to incorporate into an editing project, the clips look okay and play  full screen, in the "source" window, but when I put them in the timeline and play them in the "program" window, they are thumbnail size.  Why does this happen? I tried converting...but still no luck.

The short answer here is, don't.  (Assuming that if it was yours in the first place, you'd have the original and not have to use the upload.)
And Bill, you should know better than to help someone violate copyright law.
yeah, i beg to differ on this. i have 100s of videos on youtube i did back when it first started before i saved my finished projects... (from 2005-2008 i would just record, edit, post, delete, because it was just random junk of me hanging out with friends, or just v-logging about stuff i needed to blow steam about) so one of these days i'll have to go through and download them and burn them for archives. Never say never

  • Clipping question

    Hi,
I have a JScrollPane that manage a view with very large components and therefore user can view only a small part of components at a given time. In the drawComponent method of the visualised components, I draw a scale using long lines (g.drawLine method).
Up to now, I draw lines that start at 0 x coordinates and that ends at the end of the components (from 0 to component's width). Therefore, a large part of the line is not visualised.
Do I have to clip myself or is java by default not drawing the part of the line that is not visualised ?
If I have to clip, how can I do this (I noticed a graphics.getClipBounds method) and if java knows the clipping area why does java does clip by itself.
I ask this question because if the line is dashed, performances (redraw) are getting very bad !
    Thanks a lot.

  • Rejected Clips Question...

I have some clips in my Events that show both orange lines, used in Project, and red lines, rejected clips.  I don't remember nor do I know how to reject a clip.  How did these red lines get there? Can I undo them so they are like the other Event clips with just orange lines?  Is the red lines affecting my Project?
    thank you,
    Paul Neathery

    Hello, Paul.
Here is a link to the help section for iMove.  If I understand your question correctly, I believe it should help you with the rejected clip issue.

  • Quick multi-clip question..

I have to cut a three camera shoot in the next two hours. I've set up the multi-clip. The three cameras are pegged to the 1,2,3 of the numeric keyboard. When I flip from one camera to the next everything works ... but ... it doesn't make a cut. I could use the icons on the timeline, they work, but it isn't very intuitive or rhythmic (this is a music show). How can I set the 1,2,3 keys to actually make a mark or a cut as move between them?
I'm on the road, no manual, and I remember it being a bit of trick anyway ... wading through the FCP manual for an answer to this particular question (which I've unfortunately forgotten).
    All ears,
    Ben

Just finished my first 4 minute song. Only ten more to go. Thank you Tom. And Studio X.
Studio X for getting me to go back to the in-board manual, which, with the keywords got me into a whole other set of subject headings, which got me into understand better how they've laid the thing out.
And Tom, for the down and dirty.
    Much appreciated,
    Ben

  • Offline clips question

I have a project that I am working on and I have two scratch disks I am working with. I have taken the clips from the one external drive, that I no longer want to use as a scratch disk, and transferred the capture scratch folder into the capture scratch folder on the one scratch disk I want to primarily use. My question is, how do I reconnect all the now offline clips in the time line?

Use te File>Reconnect function and point the clips at the correct piece of media.

  • Picture / movie clip question

I might be buying a Macbook in the next few days but I was wondering if I can mix pictures and videoclips on the same DVD when burning. I'm currently using DVD Maker for Windows and I'm able to put in a few pictures, followed by a clip and then more picrures, etc... Just want to know if I can do the same thing with the ILife software...
    Thanks!

Absolutely! You can make iMovies with both video clips and still photos and put it into iDVD. You can also make slideshows in iPhoto and import into iDVD. You can even put videoclips into iDVD in the slideshow well and burn your movies that way.
You are on the right track by coming to these discussion forums. Keep reading the posts of the iLife applications you will be using, noting who seems to be more expert in each area and you will learn a great deal. Always search for your particular question first; chances are that someone else has already asked what you want to know and you will be able to benefit from all the responses. If no one seems to have your answer, then post a new topic and wait for the responses.
You should also do all the Apple tutorials for each app of iLife that you will be using, to give you more visualization of how they work.

  • Merge Clips Question

Have read the manual and searched the forums but can't work this out.
Basically I'm syncing double system audio and creating merged clips. As the video is HDV all the shots are already seperate clips. However the audio files are 1 hour long clips (transfered from DAT). Now, using the timeline technique to merge the clips, I cut out only the audio I need for each shot and merge it with the video. However the resulting clips contain ALL 1 hour of the audio (with in and out points around the video, that is most video shots are about 30 sec). This doesn't work for me since I want only the length of the shot on the playback bar of the preview window to be as long as only that shot is, for easy navigation in the shot. Even if I cut and delete the extra audio on the timeline, it still gives me all 1 hour of audio on the merged clip... how can I delete this unwanted audio on each clip? Not sure if I'm explaining this clearly. I have 43 hours and potentially thousands of shots, so individually exporting each and every merged clip as it's own shot is not at all doable from a time and hard drive space perspective. Thanks!

Ok. I've found an odd work around that you may want to try.
Make sure linking is on in your timeline. Sync audio to video. Link the audio to the video. Instead of merging, double-click to load the linked clip into the viewer.
Create a sub-clip (CMD+U). Drag the sub clip into the sequence. The audio and video will be the correct length, but the audio will not be in sync (it'll be offset, don't ask me why). Unlink the subclip (CMD+L). Using snapping, drag the video clip so that it's correctly atop the audio clip. Relink (CMD+L). Drag the new clip into your browser to create the merged clip.
The merged clip will no longer reference the entire audio media. You can delete the subclip from your browser when you're done.
It's a weird work around but it works and doesn't require any exporting or re-importing which will make it MUCH faster to get what you want.

  • Copying & pasting clips question

We're trying to copy a clip and paste it right above the first one, but it REALLY wants to go to track 1 every time. We looked it up in help and here's what it says:
"Adobe® Premiere® Elements 8 pastes clips to the Video 1 or Audio 1 track at the location of the current-time indicator. However, you can avoid this action by manually copying clips on multiple tracks."
Then, of course, there is zero explanation of how to 'manually' copy and paste the clips so they go where you want them to.
Anyone know how this is done?  Holding in Alt doesn't seem to work, either...

In previous versions of the program, the paste always went to Video 1.
In Premiere Elements 8, your clip will be pasted to whatever track you copied the original file from.

  • Multi-clip Question

I'm using Multi-clip in FCP 7 to edit a two cam shoot. I've noticed that after rendering a Multi-clip video track, the independent camera views no longer show in the Viewer. They show when playback is stopped but when playback starts, the Viewer appears just as the Canvas appears and the two run in sync. There is no way to, that I know of, to get back the independent camera displays in the Viewer.
Is there a way to get the Viewer to show the multi-cam displays in the Viewer after a Multi-clip video track is rendered in the timeline?

    Delete your renders.
Multiclip timelines should NEVER be rendered. For a good explanation why, read through the section on multiclip editing in the manual.

  • IMovie HD Video clip question.

    Hi Again,
I have nottest in iMovie HD 5 after I caputer my home movie to my ext. firewire hard drive. When I click to look at it theres a pop box that tells me that it is up dateing clip or some along thoughs lines. It only seem to do it that first time and then when I caputer new clips it will not do it on them. Is there something rong with my computer or iMovie HD.Thanks.

Ok this is very crazy to me. I did a test with my camcorder why can I captuer video to my computer with my Canon min DV. I can then see my clip right then to play it back and it dose not say its updateing the file when I click on it. Also I can just click any were in iMovie hd v5 and it tells me it updating a file. Also when I captuer off my Director's Cut 2 video convertor box whitch I am having meny crazy probloms with but anyway. I am not aboul to click right on the clip with out it saying its udateing the file. I would like to know what is up with this and why dose it only do this to the first video clip I captuer but not to all the other clips that come after its crazy. Am I the only one who seems to have this crazy junk happening. I have done alot of checking on this newsgroup with know luck. Just to see if I could find someone that is having truble like this its crazy. Am I right in think that my video convertor box takes the video from my VCR and then from there makes it then from analog to DV or Digatal or something like that so that it can be put in to my computer. I am wondering why I have to update the VCR captuer movie clip to play them back though its only one I have to do this to. But I do not have to with my DV cam what gives.

  • Cs4 flash movie clip question

I have started this animation and I am turning rain drops into movie  clips with a small splash animation in the clip.I can just copy and  paste them so I won't have to animate each one or do programming. When I  test this with the swf file they turn out fine. But when I try to  export this into a jpeg/png,or avi the full animation in the movie clip  doesn't work.It just shows the first frame. Is there a way to make this  work since I would really like the single jgep files or avi since I need to transfer this to other programs. I thought  there was a way to do this but I cannot remember or I don't know if they  changed it with cs4 XD.

Oh I am sorry I didn't say what I mean clearly XD. I want export it as a image jpeg sequence so I would have the many frames to import else where. But also I would like different single shots to show as previews as well. But when I try to do that the movie clips are not moving slowly in each image.
And I keep trying to do avi's but the movie clips are still not working.

  • Animation clip question

I want to purchase a short animation, this is the spec:HD 1080 (1920x1080)
    29.97fps / 309.8 MB
I am editing 1920x1080 but in 25 fps, can I convert the clip in FCP to match?

Use Compressor to convert it. Don't know what codec the original is, but you're probably want to convert that too.

  • Merged clip question

    Hi all,
I have a XDCam project with separate sound coming from Metacorder system. Is there a way to merge clips, so that duration of a merged clip is determined by the video track?
Separate audio is always little bit longer than video and causes black filler on both ends of a merged clip. Or is this a concern at all?
Also is there a way to delete tracks in a clip? XDCam Transfer always imports 4 audio tracks, whether there is audio or not. I end up with merged clips that have up to 9 tracks of audio. I have no problem editing with 4-5 tracks of audio but I want get rid of those first 4 XDCam dummy audio tracks.

    Hello.
One thing you will need to research is something called "Destination Controls". Just because you have 4 tracks of audio on a source clip, does not mean that every one of those tracks has to be edited to your timeline. Destination Controls are the little tabs on the left side of the timeline that are just to the right of the green track enable buttons. These little things will allow you to change the location of the destination tracks when you perform an edit to the timeline. When editing your XDCAM clips, just disconnect the destination controls for your audio tracks, although you may want to keep at least one track enabled to help sync up your audio.
A couple of other things you'll need to read up on are the "mark clip" and "Match Frame" functions. I described the use of these 2 functions in a different thread. Click Here. The difference with your case is that you'll need to use the "Slip" tool to keep the duration of the audio clip, but slip it's in and out points to bring it in sync with your video.

  • Lost clip question

I was working on a project and the clip's file had become corrupted somehow and so the link between the project and the clip itself has disappeared. I found a backup of the original clip and tried to replace the "bad clip" with the "good clip" in the place that the project was directed to (deleted the old clip). I tried to reconnect the media file, because the clip was named the same, but when I open up the reconnect media menu, the area that usually tells me what files are offline is blank. There are some words there that indicate that it knows I have an offline file, but the file name doesn't appear.
I am lost. Somewhat of a novice on this stuff so any help would be great.

No. This is a new issue. I actually found a backup to the clip that the other post is referring to.
I could do what you had suggested, but the problem is that the entire project consists of one clip cut into many pieces. Therefore, if I delete the offending clip, I delete the entire project and all in and out points as well as color treatments that I worked on. Is there any other way to get the project to associate the sequence with the original clip?
