Cloning DC for DR

Consider the following AD structure
Domain A
Domain B
Domain C - (Child of Domain B)
Domain A is trusting Domain C .  i.e. users in C  can log in to A.
DCs of Domain A and Domain C is spread across geographically. But the FSMO role for Domain A,B and C are held by respective DCs in HQ.
In one of the remote branch, we have DCs for Domain A and Domain C. We have one application in that branch which uses AD for authentication and users and Domain A and Domain C can log in to that application. The Application servers are in Domain A but allows
users in Domain C to log in by virtue of Trust.
Admin in that branch is creating DR for the application. So he clones the DCs for Domain A and Domain C along with the application servers and restoring it on another location. The reason for cloning DC is that , he wants the authentication
to happen only with in the DR bubble and don't want to traverse the WAN for authentication.   The DR bubble is isolated from the network. The cloned  DC for Domain A is authenticating in the DR bubble, but when trying to log in with Domain
C credential, the log in fails with No DC available for authentication error.
We have cleaned up DC in  Domain A in bubble and removed all the reference of other DCs and seized FSMO roles. User can  log in with their Domain A credential in to the application in the bubble, but not with Domain C credential. We
are able to log in to the DC of Domain C  with Domain Admin account , but it is not allowing to open up dsa.msc or AD trust console, with the error that  no DCs are available for authentication.
Wanted check  whether this set up is viable? Will the trust between Domain A and Domain C will work in DR bubble with out communication with Parent Domain B? Can the authentication work with in the bubble without the need to reach out to other DCs in
HQ.
Thanks in advance!
Regards

Your best option is an authoritative restore using the D4/D2 method.
And I didn't realize this is a 2012 environment with a 2012 hypervisor or any hypervisor that recognizes the new VM-Generation ID attribute.
I think what you did was an export/import. The hypervisor will recognize the attribute and do its thing for you, as you've seen.
What you can do to prevent that is do a simple flat file copy of the VHDX and other files to your bubble environment, create a new VM from existing files, etc, etc, which should prevent the attribute mechanisms from kicking in.

  • Cloning DataSource for web cam

I'm transmitting live video from a web cam over the network and storing the video to a QuickTime file at the same time. From my experience, this requires cloning a DataSource.
Is it more efficient to clone the DataSource that is coming directly from the web cam and feed those cloned DataSources to separate Processors for RTP transmission and file storage,
    OR
is it more efficient to clone the OUTPUT DataSource from a single Processor and use the output cloned DataSources for sending to file, etc. ?
    Thanks,
    Frank

Cloning the input DataSource is one method that works. See "Video Capture Utility with Monitoring" in the JMF Solutions page for 3 other methods that could be employed that produce better quality.

  • Recommended imaging/cloning method for Windows 8.1 system

Can anyone recommend a reliable way to completely image/clone a windows 8.1 based system?
I've tried 3 different methods with mixed success:
    1. My old faithful method uses EzGIG-III, but the BIOS setting for boot configuration needs to be changed to CMS because the tool is DOS based. The cloning operation takes forever (~12 hours for my machine with a 750GB HDD that only uses 200GB). I've tried it twice. The first time I got a boot error when booting the clone, but Windows managed to automatically repair the boot issue. The second time I had no errors at all.
    2. I've tried the free version of Macrium Refect three times. First time was from a bootable USB version and I don't recall any issue. Second time was from within Windows. When I swapped the drive and tried to boot the clone, the boot failed and I got a nasty error message about winload.efi missing. I did some Googling and found a command line procedure to rebuild the missing file, which seemed to work. Third time was also within Windows and everything worked ok (I'm using the resulting clone right now as a matter of fact). Nice thing is the cloning operation only took 2 1/2 hours (compared to 12 hours with EzGIG). Also, I had trouble cloning in the opposite direction - just couldn't get it to work.
    3. Third method is the System Image utility that's built into Windows 7/8/8.1. It failed right away claiming the destination location had insufficient space for the image even though the capacity was much greater than the source. I'm working through this right now and am hopeful to get it working. The down side of this method is that two separate operations are needed; one to create the image and a second one to restore it. Also, I wonder if the image will include non-windows partitions (as in Linux dual boot).
I'd appreciate any positive stories about successful cloning / imaging.
    Solved!

I've had mixed results with cloning. But restoring from an image always works. If you want reliability, do it that way.

    1. That problem occurs because the perverse backup program wants to write to each partition on the drive being imaged. See this thread for the fix.
Cant backup 8.1 using system image backup! Error 0x80780119
    2. As I said, I've found imaging to be more reliable than cloning. How often would you restore? We image all our computers daily (3am) and retain images for ten days.
    3. The image includes all the partitions on the disk - at least mine does.
In case you want to use the built-in imaging program, I can give you a shortcut to it in Windows 8.1.

  • Cloning environments for AP Imaging

Hi, we need to create the test environment from our production for oracle AP Imaging. we have soa, ipm, ucm and capture managed servers in our weblogic..
Can anyone tell me what is the best way to cloning the application from different environmenst, the test and production are in different physical server.
Can I just tar the weblogic file system and untar it to the new server and make the necessary changes and what configuration files need to be updated?
Can anyone share their experiences and how to with me? I am quite new on the weblogic.
    Thank in advance.

  • Cloning software for 10.3.9 ?

Does anyone have any clue what Cloning software is out (still) there and available for 10.3.9 ?
I tried Super Duper on Tiger and Leopard and it worked but I found out that it is incompatible with 10.3.9
I need to clone a HD which is in Slave drive Tiger.
The drive I'm Cloning from within is the main drive 10.3.9 and my statup installation discs of Tiger are history. :'-(

Hi Niel and thanks for the Link.
I tried that unregistered copy and I thought my problems were solved but I think I created more problems:
    Previously:
    1) I had partitioned the only spare FireWire HD I had at the time (1TB WD) in 2 partition via Disk Utility (Options > Apple Partition Maps).
    2) That left me with Untitled 1 and Untitled 2 on the FireWire 1TB.
    3) During the time that the Dying Slave was still running:
    • I used Super Duper (Tiger version) to Clone the Original Slave (10.4.9) onto the Untitled 2 partition (Saving all files and folders)
    • I used Super Duper (Tiger version) to Clone the new 160 GB WD drive (10.4.11) I bought was Cloned onto the Untitled 1 partition (saving all files and folders).
    Now:
    4) I installed the Panther version of Carbon Copy Cloner onto the original 40 GB drive (10.3.9) and it opened.
    5) My first try was to make an exact copy without completely erasing the Destination Disk.
Source Disk > Untitled 2 and Target Disk > WD_HD
    7) The result was a mix of what was on the WD_HD (160 GB) and the Untitled 2 partition. I could not get into the user I needed and open the appropriate software.
    8) I tried that again by choosing the option of erasing the Destination Disk before the Cloning process. Yet again, Both partitions seem to be included onto the Cloned WD_HD disk. Argh! I have no access to the user I need to get to. The new users home Icon is there but the other user’s icon is a folder and I cannot access it. Even my administrative user name and password combination doesn’t work. Argh!
    What am I doing wrong?
Super Duper on my Mac Pro (Tiger and Leopard) worked so well… Sob, Snif, Sigh!
It had asked me to name for the Destination Disk and that was great. I guess Carbon Copy Cloner does work the same way… Sob, Snif, Sigh!
Is it possible that the Partitions get Cloned as Partitions instead of the Actual “Save all files and Folders” as is ?
Is there a solution I am too blind to see ?
My Dad is the one using the G4 but he is loosing faith in it and I am trying to avoid him slipping to the Dark Side (PC world). He is loosing faith in the Mac technology.

  • Cloning HD for replacement

I'm replacing my 80GB with 320....can you direct me to some idiot-proof instructions for cloning the 80 gig, and then transferring onto the 320? I have FW external HD.
    Help. Help.
    Thanks.

This is what I use, Carbon Copy Cloner: http://www.bombich.com/
It's free (donationware). Download, run, clone, shutdown, swap-drives and boot.
It's always been pretty simple and reliable. Later versions allow you to exclude stuff you don't want to clone (should you wish).
Works with Firewire and USB drives.

  • Backing Up & Cloning Strategy for Fusion 3tb Hard Drive

Hello.  Mac Newbie Here.  My first  iMac is being delivered this week, and in advance of delivery I am thinking and planning a back up plan to instigate right from the outset.
Can I ask all of you if the following plan is a doable, robust strategy, or any other suggestions/reccomendations please?
Also to add into the mix, I am also planning on having Windows running on a Bootcamped partition, so below I have accounted and included the back up plan I have for that partition too.
Here's my plan - your thoughts really appreciated
1: USB SYSTEM RESTORE:  Planning to make a USB OS Restore flash drive as soon as I can after first boot.
2 -TIME MACHINE,  I have bought a 3TB USB3 drive to run as a time machine drive from day 1.  Although my internal drive, if you include the SSD element, is just a little over 3TB I don't plan on filling it anytime soon, so figured a 3TB drive would do for a while.
3: SUPER DUPER or CC CLONER.  Planning to use one of these apps to make fortnightly clones of my entire Fusion Drive.  Plan to re-format and use an older USB3 or USB2 External drive I have until I can find the cash to buy a new one.  Also planning to do my first clone before attempting to BOOTCAMP the drive and install windows - in case that turns out to be a big fat fail.
4: WINDOWS on BootCamp Back Up Plan.  Not so critical this for me, as only using it for legacy purposes, games, and as a bit of a 'Mac Newbie Comfort Blanket' and planning to run the default built in Windows 7 Back Up programme monthly onto an old USB 2 drive that I have
That's it - does this make sense?  Am I doing somethign wrong?  Am I reasonably protecting my system and files with this plan?

  • What is best cloning utility for MacBook Pro

I am about ready (finally as Mountain Lion's release approaches) to upgrade my mid-2009 17 inch MacBook Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion.  Only pieces remaining are a hard drive to clone my internal 750mb hard drive to and the Lion sw itself.
I know there used to be free and paid utilities to clone Mac drives.  Which would you current pros and experts recommend?  I'd prefer free if possible but if not too expensive would pay for the utility.

I use CarbonCopyClone.  Free download.  Makes a bootable copy of the drive.  Makes a full baseline copy first, then adds to it.
SuperDuper!. The free version always makes a full copy clone.  The $30 version will make a baseline clone and then incrementally add to the baseline.  Also makes a bootable clone.

  • Oracle Application Server 10g Cloning - Urgent

    Hello All,
I have been given a new assignment which involves Oracle Applications server 10g, i am new to oracle application server and hoping that some one will please clarify my doubts.
i have to clone a production machine (Solaris 10) which has oracle AS 10g, this machine had oracle database 10g before and just the application server was installed on it, i have to clone a test environment for this machine, i have the following two doubts
    1) Is it possible to just install Oracle Application server 10g on a machine which already contains oracle 10g database, if so then what about the database that gets installed when installing Oracle application server 10g.
    2) How to clone the above production machine, should the oracle 10g database be cloned first and then oracle application server 10g cloned on the new machine?
    Eagerly waiting for a reply

The DB that comes with OAS as the infrastructure DB for it (I presume you are installing a full OAS with infrastructure and midtier both) does not affect the DB you already have on your system ... obviously ... as long as you install them in their separate homes.
    2) I always say, this term cloning is somewhat loosely used in general communication meaning making copies. In OAS context, Cloning works for middletiers only. You cannot clone an infrastructure.
To make a redundant/alternate environment for OAS, you can do the following:
    - a) either use the same infra on machine 1, and install another midtier and register with the same infra.
    - b) or install a separate infra on machine 2, and also a midtier registered with it.
Here for the first option a), Cloning can be used because you can (*only*) clone a middle-tier. There are pros and cons for this setup, including that you share the SSO, and OID, and hence users and groups bases, etc on those two environments - something that you may or may not want. But then there are also some way-outs to avoid them or minimize their effects too. Please see the following reference for cloning and search on Metalink for how to minimize effects, once you get better familiar with the processes.

There are some notes on Metalink which address issues about benefits or procedures of Cloning and Staging an environment too.
There are some other ways to export/transport your applications to another instance across DB. Please also read about them.
    hope that helps!

  • Suggestion and Comments for a w530 unit

    Hello Everyone,
I've been using macbookpro for almost 4 years, and since I heavily use AutoCad, Sketchup and Lightroom on a daily basis it has been a bothersome to rebooth from one OS to another. I have been looking at the W530 for quite sometime and decided to make the swtich. I hope someone can enlighten me on how to go about the purcahsing of W530. From Lenovo site, i intend of getting this specification and minor upgrade of some specs:
Lenovo w530 Intel Core i7-3940XM Processor Extreme Edition (8M Cache, up to 3.80 GHz)
    Window 7 pro 64 bit
    Lightroom 4
15.6" FHD (1920 x 1080) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
    NVIDIA Quadro K2000M Graphics with 2GB DDR3
    16 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (4 DIMM)
    500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    Bluetooth 4.0
    Third Party Source Items:
Additional 2 8gb Ram, so total of 32GB
    msata AData XPG x300 256gb
    2.5" sata ssd 512gb
Hard drive caddy from new mode us. com
    Questions:
    1.   If in case, I need to add additional ram, would it be okey to just buy an additional 2 pcs of 8GB of Corsair Vengance, or do i need to buy a new 4 pcs of 8GB? so the total ram would be 32GB. Or would it be wise to just get the 32GB of Ram from Lenovo?
    2.  I plan to use the 500gb HDD in the hard drive caddy and use the msata and 2.5" ssd for primary drive, What would be the best way to copy the Windows and Lightroom from the HDD to msata drive (256gb adata)?
    3. How come some unit with the w530 comes with a color sensor option and the higher w530 specs does not? would it be wise to get the Color sensor/ calibration from Lenovo or Just get other calibration software? and can you suggest in your experience a good calibration software for w530?
    4.  and lastly, does all w530 whether it be lower end specs or high end spec has a msata connection? Sorry of the ignorance.
Really sorry for a long post and questions.  I hope someone could enlighten me before i purchase this unit. Any suggestions and comment would be highly appreciated. Thanks

    Hi.
I'm almost in your same boat; used a Macbook when travelling for AutoCAD and I just ordered a W530 (should arrive Thursday) after a long period of agonizing of the purchase. I'll update this thread once I've used it a bit if you'd like, but I have some comments on your post:
    1. My understanding is that RAM works best when all sticks are of the same capacity. Personally, I ordered the W530 with the least RAM possible and am replacing all factory with Corsair Vengance.
    2. Use drive cloning software.(check out this site: http://lifehacker.com/5839753/the-best-disk-cloning-app-for-windows). I'm eschewing the mSATA and going with a 500gb SSD (found the Samsung 840 for $279) as the main drive with the 500gb HDD in the ultrabay (mSATA slot vacant). Why do you need the hard drive caddy?
    3. Not sure. I didn't go top-of-the-line as you are so my config had the color sensor option.
    4. All have the mSATA.

  • Boot Camp Partition and OS X Cloning Apps?

I've tried a search of previous posts and can't get a bulletproof answer. Here goes:
Using XP SP3 in a Boot Camp partition on my iMac running Snow Leopard. Only one complaint (the metal keyboard Option key issue for boot up -- really lame).
The Windows partition is for two financial applications, mission critical ones. I copy the key data files over to my Mac side after using these Windows apps.
I back up my Mac side with SuperDuper! My mission critical files are thus picked up by my SuperDuper! routine. I've tried restoring them and it works without a hitch.
My question is: if my system HD goes south, will my SuperDuper! clone restore the previous partition structure on the new system HD? Also, I've always assumed I'd have to reinstall the Windows apps individually and replace the mission critical data files one by one in a separate process. Is this right?
I also keep Time Machine backups running. They pick up those mission critical copies brought over to my Mac side. Same questions re: a replacement system HD -- will the partition structure be restored, and am I right in understanding the apps and files on the Windows side are up to me to restore outside any Time Machine rescue.
Thanks much for your patience and your help.
    Terry

    Hi Terry,
    your assumption is correct.
Neither SuperDuper nor Time Machine will clone or backup your Windows partition since both only handle harddisk/partitions that use the MacOS Extended file system.
Files that are on such harddisks/partitions are cloned/backuped regardless of their nature or origin.
So of you copy files from your WIndows partition to your OSX partition like your mission critical files, these are then cloned/backuped when using SuperDuper or Time Machine.
And yes, when booting from your external harddisk with the cloned OSX and then using SuperDuper to clone this OSX back to your internal harddisk all the files (and therefor also your mission critical files) are back "in place".
Same goes for when using a Time Machine backup for a full system restore.
After that you would have to reinstall Windows and the Windows programs to get it all back.
Currently Casper http://www.fssdev.com/products/casper/ is considered the best solution for a full Windows backup/restore.
Mike Bombich, the author of Carbon Copy Cloner (another cloning app for OSX) is to my knowledge working on an addition to CCC to clone or backup a BootCamp Windows.
But it's way too early to see any results on this.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Cloning Oracle database 8.1.7.0

    Hi,
We have upgraded our database from Oracle 8.1.7.0 to Oracle 8.1.7.4 , applied terminal patch set(Oracle 8.1.7.4) , as we have to upgrade it further to 10g rel2.
After upgrading to 8.1.7.4, we required to apply the database fixes against the mentioned bugs.
One of the Serious Server Issues is mentioned below after upgradation,
Changing the Database Character Set can corrupt LOBs ( Note 118242.1)
we have gone through the note mentioned above,
In that one of the point regarding cloning is as below :
If the database version is 8.1.7.3 or 8.1.7.4:
    - install non-patched Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 from the original CD-Pack
    into a separate ORACLE_HOME
    - take a full backup of the database
    - create a clone database from this backup using the 8.1.7.0.0
version of the RDBMS software -- contact Oracle Support
if you need help; the clone should open with the older
non-patched software without any downgrade steps
    - export all non-system tables with non-NULL CLOB and/or NCLOB columns
from the clone; do not forget to set NLS_LANG environment
    variable to the database character set for the export session;
you can use the 8.1.7.0.0 version of the Export utility
    - truncate the exported tables but in the original database
    - reimport the exported tables into the original database;
do not forget to set NLS_LANG environment variable to
    the database character set for the import session;
use the Import utility from the original ORACLE_HOME
    - drop the clone database - do not use the clone for other
purposes as it is not supported to run a patched database
    with the non-patched software.
How to Clone the Oracle database (8.1.7.0) on windows OS ?
From where i would get the Cloning steps to accomplish the above steps on Windows OS ?
    With Regards
