Coherence and OC4J container integration - is it possible ?

I'm planning to use Coherence as a clustered cache solution for database objects assembled from the database.
In order to do this I use a combination from event listener and invocation map, where I put a specially tailored message with connection information into the cache, then each node picks it up and spawns it's own listening process. But there is a catch: before we will put this connection message with database login/password we need to pull these values from somewhere. Currently I'm thinking about installing Coherence server as OC4J 10.1.3 cluster, which we're already using and utilizing it's features, like datasources configuration management etc.
So, the question is: is it possible to install Coherence server on OC4J app server ? Any FAQ/docs available on that ?

Hi,
Let me restate what I think you are asking to make sure we are on the same page.
What you want to do is use OC4J to manage credentials which ultimately need to
be picked up by a Coherence cluster to have access information to serve a backing
map listener that ultimately connects to a database.
If this is what you are proposing, than I would suggest that you keep the server
environments discrete (i.e. living in seperate JVMS) and have you Coherence logic
living in OC4J run as a client.
i.e. -Dtangosol.coherence.distributed.localstorage=false
Typically it is a really bad idea to overload a JVM with two types of servers by definition they
are extremely complex and will compete for a variety of resources.

  • Ejb lookup and oc4j container startup

    I have a servlet that is set to auto start on container startup that does a lookup on a ejb in another container. jndi locates the ejbhome but fails to load the class for the ejb home. It knows the name of the class but the classloader cannot find it. This same servlet works fine after the container has started up.
    It feel the problem is a classloader problem or a restriction by oracle. Any help is appreciated.
    Why can't the OC4J default application that auto starts servlets at container startup not find the ejbhome class?
    David Jacobs

    We have previously done it, but it only worked when we are using in 10g AS R1. But now, we are porting to R2, but it doesn't work. We didn't do any other things, just a simple lookup using the url, context factory. In R1 it worked fine, in R2, we are encountering the same, NameNotFoundException. Hope someone could help us also with this. Another thing, when we are using ormi://<rest of url>, it doesn't return any exception and our application hangs, but if we use opmn:ormi://<rest of URL>, that's the time it throws the NameNotFoundException. In R1, we didn't have any problems.

  • Can I use ADF Logger in non-ADF applicaiton and outside container?

    Hi all,
    I want to use ADF Logger feature in non-ADF applicaiton and outside container. Is that possible?
    Thanks,
    Xianyi.Ye

    I figured out "partially" the problem, I tried to overrid the create method, and for any reason the commit operation wasn´t working.
    I was trying to set a value for a proprety, but it did not work as a wish.
    My intention was.... when an user execute the form. one specific field brings a value.. however I cannot set default value. cause it´ll change sometimes.
    it´s something like this
    protected void create(AttributeList attributeList) {
    super.create(attributeList);
    setMyProperty(new Number(0));
    do you know how can I figure out this problem?

  • OEM in Linux and Unix Memory difference on Deployed OC4J Container

    I have 2 Oracle 9iAS environments 1 each for production and test.
    My Prod servers are on AIX (Unix)
    My Test server is on Linux
    Under Enterprise Manager If I create an OC4J container exactly the same in both and deploy an application exactly the same in both could someone tell me why the memory usage display is widely different - on linux its much more used than on unix?
    Perplexing.

    The code gets pretty messy as I have both a SendMail and MailMessage class that I use. Basically for not authenticated messages (I need authenticated), the example on metalink Doc ID: Note:234490.1 with subject "Mail Service Setup" is what I used to get this going.
    I updated the local application.xml file located in C:\jdev1012\jdev\system10.1.2.2.0.1929\oc4j-config\application.xml
    <mail-session location="mail/mailsession" smtp-host="my.mail.server">
    <property name="mail.transport.protocol" value="smtp"/>
    </mail-session>
    On a datapage, I have a button with event_Email. In the action class I have an onEmail() method that calls the code to create a message and send it with the email transport.
    In my libraries in JDeveloper, I created one called JavaMail which has activation.jar and mail.jar. This is added to the project.
    Everything works fine when running locally. The problem is in deployment. The OC4J container that I deploy to has a java2.policy file. At first the classpath, and the location in the policy file for mail.jar and activate.jar were not the same. I updated the policy file to use the files in the classpath. Since mail.jar and activate.jar on the OAS server are in the classpath, I didn't include these files in the deployment.
    When trying to run, I don't get any messages, just a 500 Error.
    If I try to implement a policy file on the local OC4J in JDeveloper, I get lots of problems, and I gave up on that route.
    Hope that adds more info. Thanks, Ken

  • SOA suite: configure a new oc4j container, licensing and support

    Hi
    We have a SOA suite installation (10.1.3.4).
    Default installation is containing a OC4J_SOA running the esb, bpel etc.
    Now we have a java ear (java web service), and would like to deploy this to a dedicated oc4j container.
    So we want to configure a new oc4j instance named oc4j_jws.
    Actually, we have already done this, and it is looking good.
    Now I only want to make sure the configuration of a new oc4j container is not violating any licensing and support agreements.
    We have soa suite license.
    I believe a soa suite license allows for configuration of additional oc4j containers.

    The adding of oc4j instances is at least well documented within the Oracle Application Server Administrator's Guide:

  • Relationship between coherence and NIC teaming

    Hi,
    We are using Tangosol coherence for clustering purpose in our product Webmethods Integration server.
    When our server starts up it tries to jojn tne cluster.
    Our scenario is this :-
    We have 2 servers running on 2 separate boxes A&B.
    They are on same network segment.
    Multicast test is working properly .
    The issue is only one of the nodes(which is started first) in becoming the part of the cluster and other one remain disabled.
    We found out that the NIC teaming was disabled in the boxes.
    When we enabled NIC teaming with smart load balancing then both the nodes are able to join the cluster.
    My specific question is,
    Is there any relationship between Tangosol coherence and NIC teaming? If yes, what's the relationship.
    Regards,
    Ritwik Bhattacharyya

    I did some tinkering a while back trying to get 4Gb/s bonded etherchannels going on linux boxes but I had issues with out of order and missing packets:
    4Gb/s bonded ethernet test results - finally...
    But to answer your question there is no reason that you would need NIC teaming on in order to make Coherence work. It sounds like something is not configured correctly with your NIC or switch. Maybe try connecting the machines with a crossover cable instead of a switch just to eliminate the switch as a possible problem. It sounds like maybe you're just using the wrong ethernet port on a server or something.

  • Eclipse and OC4J

    Hi
    I'm using Eclipse for development and deploy and run my
    applications in Oracle Appliaction Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J).
    Anyone knowing if it is possible to run OC4J integrated with Eclipse for debugging?
    Thanks

    We use OC4J inside of Eclipse for development/debugging. The "manual" way is to debug OC4J as a java application. You add the OC4J jars to your classpath, and run the OC4J main class: com.evermind.server.OC4JServer and in the debug configuration, you set the "working directory" to the /oc4j/j2ee/home directory.
    The "easy" way to do it, is to use MyEclipse http://www.myeclipseide.com. It has wizards and complete eclipse integration which supports OC4J.
    Hope that helps,

  • Webbinding of OBI Publisher failing (OC4J contained into OAS)

    Hi
    I;m deploying OBI Publisher (earlier XML publisher) xmlpserver.EAR using OC4J contained into Oracle Application server. The deployment is getting successful. But when Binding Web Modules to a Web Site After Deployment it is giving me an error
    BindWebApp error: oracle.oc4j.admin.jmx.shared.exceptions.JMXRuntimeException
    Anyone of you have ever faced this problem. Do I need to put certain jar files in shared library.
    Regards,
    Parwez

    Solved it myself.
    For the benefit of others:
    It is possible to use oracle_proxy plug-in for OC4J stand-alone.
    Crucial points for the configuration are:
    - oracle_proxy config file specified correctly
    - xmlpserver roles specified correctly
    - right ports specified in instanceconfig.xml and xmlp-server-config.xml

  • Debugging application/OC4J container

    I have some application running in separate 9iASR2 9.0.2.0.0 OC4J containers that appear to randomly freeze (this happened 7 times in May, 2003). Only restarting the OC4J container fixes the problem. As far as I can tell, there are no obvious problems (db connectivity, OS problems, ...) that could be causing this freezing.
    My question is, how do you go about trouble shooting debugging an application running in a OC4J container. What kind of tools should I be using? Jprobe?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Daniel

    Hi Daniel --
    Tools which act as profilers such as JDeveloper,JProbe, etc. can help assist with the codepath and possible source of a freeze.
    Sounds like you've checked the right items -- I have seen instances where an application was leaking database connections in a side and infrequently executed codepath, which contributed to the system freezing.
    Another option for freezes is to get the running JVM to do a thread-dump to see if there are any locks on objects that are leading to deadlocks -- this can be done on Unix by issuing a "kill -3 <pid>" on the running JVM process.
    cheers

  • Using OC4J container of EBS 11

    Hi,
    in online documentation about the EBS 11 architecture I see that there is an OC4J container present.
    (If this is not always the case, please let me know)
    Does anyone know if it is accessible to deploy your own applications (small webservices)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Erik

    We are now trying to use the Apache http server of EBS 8.0.6.
    Is this a Oracle 9i Application server?
    I posted this on the apache part of the OTN forum:
    Hello,
    At our project we want to access some plsql procedures via mod_plsql and a Apache http server.
    We thought we could do that via adding a DAD to dads.conf like:
    +<Location /X>+
    SetHandler pls_handler
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    Allow from <ip-1> <ip-2> <ip-3>
    PlsqlDatabaseUsername <username>
    PlsqlDatabasePassword <password>
    PlsqlDatabaseConnectString <server>:<port>:<SID>
    +</Location>+
    But there was no dads.conf present, most likely because it was an older version of the http server than expected.
    It appeared to be an Oracle 9i Application Server (iAS).
    We tried to spread the configuration over wdbsvr.app by adding:
    +[DAD_X]+
    connect_string   =  <server>:<port>:<sid>
    password   =  <password>
    username   = <username>
    exclusion_list= sys.*
    reuse   =  Yes
    pathalias   =  X
    pathaliasproc   =  /X
    nls_lang=dutch_the netherlands.we8mswin1252
    +;+
    and adding to plsql.conf:
    +<Directory /ucm>+
    Order Deny,Allow
    Deny from all
    Allow from <ip-1> <ip-2> <ip-3>
    +</Directory>+
    The result was that at the expected url <server>:<port>/pls/X/procedure an authentication popup appeared only at the allowed ip-addresses.
    So it seemed to have worked. However the required authentication was unexpected.
    Does anyone know how to get rid of the required authentication?
    If that is not possible: how I can find the required username and password?
    Help is appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Erik
    PS. We tried adding things like <location /pls/X> AuthAuthoritative off </Location> to files like httpd.conf but it did not seem to have any effect.

  • How do I use toplink with Spring 2.5 and oc4j 10.1.2?

    Our existing java server environment is limited to Oc4j 10.1.2 due to being tied to Oracle Forms.
    We've added a java 6 jdk to the machine and linked it to a specific container to examine some newer java features since this version of the application server only comes with java 1.4.2.
    Does anyone have some configuration steps for getting toplink essentials and spring to work with oc4j 10.1.2? Even with oc4j 10.1.3 in jdev 10.1.3.4 I'm having problems trying to figure out what needs placed in the persistence.xml file verses what needs placed in the spring-beans.xml file.
    I'm trying to either use the J2SE option of keeping the connection information in the persistence.xml file (which doesn't work) - it tries to connect to //localhost:1521/orcl. If I try to define a datasource within Spring's xml file, I'm not sure how to tie that into the persistence.xml file. Could I use the oc4j 10.1.2 container provided datasource?
    It seems like I'm at a loss as to how to get this working. If you'd like me to post some files, I can do that later on today when I get back to work.
    The configuration that I'm trying to do is based on a modified workspace from an ibm developerworks article with websphere, mixing in the ideas from a JPA with Spring 2.0 article from Mike Keith and Rod Johnson. (That article goes pretty far in the configuration information but never provided an example to download...)
    Any help appreciated.
    Eric (hbg, pa)

    I'm still at a loss with this. Rather than worry about the older version, for now, I just want to see JPA in action. So, I've decided on just running the Spring 2.5.6 petclinic example out of the samples folder. When I try to do this, after only tweaking the web.xml to use the applicationContext-jpa.xml file, the application does not initialize properly. Here's the stack trace I get:

  • Training and Event Management Integration with FICO

    How Training & Event Management is integrated with FICO?
    How it will be integrated and where?
    Could you please put it in simple way?

    Hi Rajesh,
    Cost allocation:
    Here it is possible to charge an employeeu2019s cost center with the fee for attending a business event (e.g. training course, workshop). The business event organizeru2019s cost center will be credited and the attendeeu2019s cost center will be debited.
    Crediting of the senderu2019s cost center  Debiting of the recipientu2019s cost center
    The costs incurred from actually holding a business event can be transferred from the resources cost center to the business event organizeru2019s cost.
    Crediting of the senderu2019s cost center  Debiting of the recipientu2019s cost center
    In SAP Configuration:
    Training and Event Management > Integration->Billing and activity Allocation-->Activity Allocation and cost transfer posting.
    Please do above configuration and create business events with or without resourses, in that you can maintain cost centre to post the expenditures .

  • Shut Down Of OC4J Container ist blocked

    Hi,
    i'vi got a problem with the new 10g iAS and if anybody's encountered the same or does know a solution, please let me know.
    The problem is:
    I'm not able to stop the OC4J container in the iAS cleanly.
    The reason is:
    There are two timers (java.util.Timer) running. These timers are cleanup timers, which run always throughout the application at intervalls (scheduleAtFixedRate). If i dont start the timers, the container will stop right away, without any error. If the timers are running the container is waiting for them to cancel and shutting down hardly after a timeout.
    I didn't have this problem with 9i and i dont have it in the embedded OC4J of the JDeveloper.
    Is there any workaround? How could i latch into the shutdown process, to cancel the timers myself?
    Best regards,
    Mirko

    The OC4J script is not the cause of this -- if the message is shown "shutting down OC4J' then the call has been made to OC4J and its in the process of shutting down.
    If you execute "set verbose=on" before executing oc4j.cmd, then you'll see the command that oc4j uses when -shutdown is performed is exactly that command you suggest:
    oc4j -shutdown -port 23791 -password welcome1Executing: D:\java\jdk150_11\bin\java -jar "d:\java\oc4j-10133-prod\j2ee\home\admin.jar" ormi://localhost:23791 oc4jadmin welcome1 -shutdown
    But as you are suggesting there are manual ways to shutdown OC4J that are equally valid to use; it's a matter of choice.
    What you could try is using the -force extra switch with the -shutdown command to force it to shutdown:
    java -jar admin.jar ormi://localhost:23791 oc4jadmin welcome1 -shutdown force
    If that fails, ctrl+c the process. It doesn't do any damage to it.
    A thread-dump (ctrl+break) on the hung process can help to identify any deadlock issues.
    oc4j.cmd is limited certainly, but it provides a simpler entry point IMHO for new users. And we still fully support/endorse the direct startup path using the runnable JAR file.

  • Upgrade oc4j container from 10.1.2 to 10.1.3

    Hi to all,
    We use oc4j container 10.1.2 for old applications, but now we have developed ajax applications using oracle maps, but if i'm riight 10.1.2 doesn't support oracle maps.
    I've tried to install oracle application server oc4j container 10.1.3 in the same machine(i must use the same machine with red hat 3.4.4 opertive system) but i see a lot of conflicts with 10.1.2 and i cannot install that properly.
    Is there any possobility to upgrade oracle application server oc4j container without having a metalink account?Is there a patch or something similar?
    Thank you,

    There shouldn't be any problems, I have in the same server one 10.1.2 App Server and a 10.1.3 and no conflicts, only when I installed I had the first App Server up, so the second recognize the ports used and it use a diferent one for his components.
    Can you tell about your conflicts?

  • ALE/IDOC and RFC/BAPI Integration Scenarios with SAP DS for ESA v3

    Hi,
    we are planning two PoCs of Integration Plattforms. One of our major requirement set is SAP Integration into our existing SOA.
    Because we also have R/3 4.7 Systems in production, we are planning to test ALE/IDOC and RFC/BAPI Integration scenarios with these Integration Plattforms.
    My question is:
    We are looking for are smart solution to get a SAP Test Environment, where we can test ALE/IDOC und RFC/BAPI Integration scenarios.
    It is possible to do this with SAP DS for ESA v3 or shall we better use IDES for that purpose?
    Best regards,
    Steven

    Hi Abhishek,
      This is our scenario. We are doing an integration of SAP HR r/3 system with the CRM system. We need housing information details of the employees which we have in custom infotype 9310 in SAP HR system and we need those details in the CRM system. So am planning out for an ALE/IDOC approach for the integration and gonna  maintain the 9310 details in a custom table. In the CRM system, we gonna build a BOL layer for accessing the 9310 details. Also i'm preparing a HLD for this process. I wanna read and go through few same HLD's before i submit my proposal to my client. Please suggest me and help me out.
    Thanks in advance.
