Color separation CMYK and SPOT Color

Hi,
I am new to the Acrobat SDK and I need to write a plugin for separating the colors (CMYK and Spot)
from a PDF file.  I Believe I need to use the Acro_Color library classes for doing this. Can you please
point me some sample code fragments to achieve how to separate these colors and generate a separate
PDF file for each color.
Kindly help me in this.
Thanks in advance..
Thanks
sabdul

Do you actually need to do true separations, where each page of the new
PDF is a separate "plate" OR just simple separations of objects?
If the latter, then just walk through the objects (PDEdit APIs) and copy
them from one to another.
If the former, there are a variety of methods - some simpler than other.
Depends a LOT on your specific requirements with respect to PDF levels,
standards compliance, etc.  You will probably need to talk to some people
in the print production industry to better understand the specific
requirements.

  • CMYK to spot color

    how can i change one part of a file that has been created in cmyk to spot color without changing the rest of the cmyk art?

    Still too short. An informative description is required.
    In other words, please describe as detailed as possible what you want to do. Step by step, so one at least can understand it.

  • Canon pixma pro 9500 having problems with my print out. colors are glazed and missing colors

    canon pixma pro 9500 having problems with my print out. colors are glazed and missing colors
    i have prfiled the mac and printer wiht colormunki and uplodated the profile sucessfully
    i set the printer to correct icc profile
    print out comes out same with glazed colors and missing tones/colors
    however when i use the same printer on windows and with light room, following same icc profile, colormunki calibrated profile, the print our are excellent.
    i have also tried using printer manage profile using the Mac and Aperture and get same poor prints
    can  you please assist and thanks

    I've a Pro9000 and also use Colormunki successfully.
    When I use Colormunki, I calibrate both of my monitors and the printer/paper combination. Colormunki saves the generated profiles to the correct places -- I don't load or change any profiles after that as that would mess-up what the Colormunki had just done for me, and this would likely mess-up the prints.
    Though I double-check the settings in the print dialogue, the choice for the printer handling things is already grayed-out. Colorsync handles it all just fine.

  • Spot color to CMYK and out of gamut

    I do the following:
    - Create a document, CMYK workflow
    - Color Settings: CMYK: US Web Uncoated v2
    - Select PANTONE solid coated color book
    - Create a rectangle and fill it with PANTONE Hexachrome Orange
    - Now change the PANTONE Hexachrome Orange (double click on the swatch) to a process color in CMYK. Illustrator tells me everything is OK (no out of gammut warning) but believe me, there is no way this can be printed in CMYK (a DeltaE of 30 is not uncommon). PANTONE Hexachrome Orange is way out of gamut in CMYK prints.
    Anyone knowing what I am doing wrong?
    Thx,

    Indeed, I do get an out of Web Color warning as well ..
    Yet Hexachrome orange is out of gamut on top of out of Web color and this warning I do not get ..

  • Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro is showing CMYK in spot color document

    Hi,
    I created a PDF using Adobe Illustrator CS4, and although I am only using 2 spot colors, both, Illustrator and Acrobat are showing CMYK plates in the Separations Preview and Output Preview. When I turn off the Spot plates, there is nothing in the document. Could you please help me figure out why is this happenning?
    Thanks

    Acrobat will always show the CMYK framework - even if there's no CMYK in there. You'll also notice that if the file contained RGB, calRGB, LAB etc - it also shows in the Output Preview as CMYK since it's in simulation mode (enough of that for now)!
    You might want to use the SHOW feature in Output Preview or even use a preflight profile to double check ...
    Cheers,
    Jon

    Every file has CMYK plates in Illustrator or Acrobat. I think you are over-thinking things.
    The important issue is:
    Are there any items actually on the plates??
    Just because there are plates, does not mean those plates contain artwork. Both Illustrator and Acrobat Pro will always indicate CMYK plates, but if there is no CMYK data, they won't print.

  • Issue with Gaussian Blur and Spot Colors

    Wondering if anyone has a solution to this issue.
    Setup: We are using CS4 + CS5 Illustrator on Mac OS 10.5.X and 10.6.X
    We created a spot color radial gradient filled circle over a background of the same spot color. The gradient went from 100% of the color down to 2%. We then applied a gaussian blur set to 50 pixels so that we had a nice smooth transition from the circle blurring outwards over the background with the blur blending into the spot color background.
    The problem arises when we select "Retain Spot Colors" on the blur. It fills the gradient circle with 100% solid color (but at the 2% range of the gradient so it appears white) and deletes the blur effect. If we don't select "Retain Spot Colors", it converts the blur to process and we get a banding on our printouts where the spot background and CMYK gaussian meet.
    We tried the gaussian blur set at 5 pixels all the way up to 55 in 10 pixel increments but nothing worked. We tried different spot colors, same issue. We know we can do the background in Photoshop and import it into Illustrator as a workaround, but we are constantly editing and changing files and would like to keep everything in Illustrator.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to solve this or if there is even a solution. We have not tried Illustrator 5.5 and do not want to invest the money in the upgrade yet. We would prefer to stay with both CS4 and CS5.
    Thank you for any input.

    Hi Mike,
    Okay, I have some new information that changes things. I misunderstood what the issue was from the designer. My apologies in advance for the confusion. There are actually two issues but they are somewhat related.
    Issue 1:
    We are concerned with banding on the outside of a spot color gradient with a gaussian blur over a patterned background of the same spot color.  We do not  know if this is becasue of the number of pixels on the blur, the version of Illustrator, the blending of the blur into the patterned background, etc... While the banding looks slight on screen it is more pronounced when printed. There are many variables and we have tried everything we can think of to create a smooth transition but we keep getting some banding.
    The first image shows what happens when the Preserve Spot Colors in the Raster Effects Settings (found under the Effect menu) is unchecked. We believe that the spot color is being treated as CMYK and causing the blur to be a slightly different color than the spot color background thus causing the banding.
    The second image shows what happens when we select Preserve Spot Colors. We lose the blur.
    The third image is what we are trying to achieve over a over a patterned background of the same spot color. This was achieved with the Preserve Spot Colors unchecked and also unchecking Overprint Preview in the Separations Preview Palette. However, this brings us right back to the issue with the Preserve Spot Color being unchecked.
    Issue 2:
    The issue is that we want to print a spot color gradient with a gaussian blur (over 50 pixels). In order to preview the blur effect correctly we have to uncheck the Preserve Spot Colors in the Raster Effects Settings (found under the Effect menu). However, we have recently found out that this will not work with the software our printers use to do separations. If we check the Preserve Spot Color for the separator, it turns the blur into a large square of color (see screensnap below). We have played around with the Add: x Around Object setting in Raster Effects but it has not helped.
    3. If we do not select "Preserve Spot Color", the blur looks correct but it is no longer a spot color but CMYK when separated.
    I hope that isn't too confusing and makes sense. Again, apologies for the mixup on my part originally. Thanks again for any help.

  • Convert CMYK to Spot Color or 2 Color in Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard

    I have a file that is in a CMYK color format. The original document was created is MS Word. The file is currently CMYK but the printer I am sending it to needs either Spot Color or 2 color. Can I conver CMYK to either of these in Acrobat 9 standard?

  • Converting CMYK to Spot Color (InDesign/Illustrator)

    I have come across a client that have sent files built in process or CMYK.  We want to make it a 2 color job (2 spot colors) but they have not chosen colors.  What is the most effective way to determine the spot color that matches the CMYK procees within InDesign/Ilustrator.  If it easier to do on one of the 2 programs I am completely open to using either.

    You can do it with Photoshop. Click the Foreground color picker, enter the CMYK values, choose Color Libraries, select the Pantone book you want to reference, and the closest ink will be displayed. Keep in mind that the appearance of CMYK depends on the document's color profile or the Color Settings' CMYK Working space if nothing is open. So, for example US Sheetfed Coated will likely return a different Pantone color than US SWOP Coated.

  • Export to PDF and Spot Color Reg Marks

    This sounds like a simple problem but I have not been able to find a way to do this.  When I create a document in ID with 2 spot colors and then export to a pdf and add registration marks (or crop marks) at this stage, the reg marks are created as the spot colors in the document AND Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black.  I am outputting to a RIP to generate printing plates.  This is a problem because I will get six plates (four with only reg marks) rather than just the two I need.  Is there a way to add the reg marks in the export stage so that they are created as only the colors that are present in the document?

    Add a slug around your document (File>Document Setup>Show Options)
    If your bleed is 3 mm and you want to add 5 mm crop marks, set the slug to be 8 mm all around
    On the master page make a line at .25 pt and place this outside the bleed area and touching the slug line
    Do this for all master pages.
    Set the stroke colour to registration.
    Export to PDF and choose to include bleed and slug.
    Don't turn on crop marks.

    Hi Dog Lover!
    Have you had any luck finding information since your original posting?
    There are resources on the internet that offer those with normal color vision a glimpse at what colors a color deficient observer might perceive, but I haven't heard of any tools for doing the reverse...
    The actual in-the-brain process of color sensation isn't fully understood yet, so anything that simulates what someone with color deficiency might see is an educated guess at best.
    Check out www.colorhelper.com. There's a software product called the eyePilot that allows you to distinguish a single color apart from any others on a web page or other sources of visual media. I don't know how accurate it is, and I haven't tried it myself, but there's a trial version available so perhaps it could be useful.
    Your best bet would be to have someone you know with normal color vision check your web pages and give you feedback on what colors work well together. You can also check color coordinate values (RGB, Lab, etc.) on images in Photoshop by using the eyedropper tool and the "INFO" information window.
    Hope this helps!

  • Changing color from Swatch to Spot color

    Hello,
    I have almsot figured this out but have on hangup.  I am trying to replace a color with another color from a Pantone library. I am using Illustrator CS6.
    I have this script which I found on here:
    #target illustrator
    var docRef = app.activeDocument;
    with (docRef) {
    var replaceColor = swatches.getByName('Pantone 152 C').color;
    for (var i = 0; i < pathItems.length; i++) {
    with (pathItems[i]) {
    if (filled == true && fillColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;
    for (var j = 0; j < stories.length; j++) {
    with (stories[j]) {
    for (var k = 0; k < characters.length; k++) {
    with (characters[k].characterAttributes) {
    if (fillColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (fillColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') fillColor = replaceColor;
    if (strokeColor instanceof SpotColor) {
    if (strokeColor.spot.name == '  HCS Orange') strokeColor = replaceColor;
    Which works,  but only if the new PMS color is added to the swatch list.  It seems I cannot get the swatch in the list easily using a script(which I have no experience with) or using an action.  Nor can I change the name after var replacecolor as it seems to only look for the swatch panel and not the color group or color book panel
    Any suggestions would be helpful, I am looking at having to change 30,000 files.
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Sure,

    try {
         var replaceColor = swatches.getByName('Pantone 152C').color;
    catch (err){
         var replaceColor = docRef.spots.add();
         replaceColorColor = new CMYKColor();
         replaceColorColor.cyan = 4.84;
         replaceColorColor.magenta = 66.58;
         replaceColorColor.yellow = 100;
         replaceColorColor.black = 0.21;
         replaceColor.name = 'Pantone 152C';
         replaceColor.color = replaceColorColor;
         replaceColor.colorType = ColorModel.SPOT;
         replaceColor.tint = 100;
    Here is the actions set up:
    The 2 actions are the scripts, the export is after saving the eps.

  • Color separations with Snow Leopard?

    Before installing Snow Leopard I was able to create PDF color separations by going to file > print. From there I changed the printer to Adobe PDF 9.0 and changed the Mode to Separations under Output. When the print button was pressed I would get a PDF file with all my CMYK and spot colors on separate pages in shades of black. This is the file I need to send to have negatives/plates made.
    With Snow Leopard the print to PDF command no longer works. I can still use Save As PDF, but that would require me to manually remove all colors except one and then change that one to shades of black. That process would need to be repeated for every color used. Does anyone have a work around or better way to create color separations? I have contacted Adobe and have an open case working this problem. There is currently a bit of confusion because the individual at customer support thinks I am having trouble printing color separations when I am actually having trouble saving color separations using the print command.

    Here is the work around!
    Print the file to a .ps and run it directly through Distiller  you will need to give Distiller your password.
    That suggest to me that the problem is that distiller needs to pass word in order to save the file anywhere and not be able to do so without the password it just sends it back to the system after completing the distilling when you try to print to pdf.
    Here is two of the four pages I got from my experiment
    Not ideal work flow when you are doing a lot of them but much the same we are all use to doing it in the past.
    Most important it is a way.
