Combining XML files

Hi,
I have a collection of XML files that I want to embed in one XML file. What is the best way to achieve this?
a) Manually create a new DOM from the existing DOMs
b) Use XSLT
c) Use XInclude
d) Something else :-)
As I only want to combine the xml files to form one XML file, i think that using XSLT or XInclue might be overkill. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Shane

A low budget non xml way would be to create a MultipleInputStream class that takes a bunch of streams and treats them as one big stream. You pass an instance of this to your sax or dom parser.
InputStreams[] ises = getYourXMLFilesFromSomewhere();
MultipleInputStream mis = new MultipleInputStream();
mis.addStream(new StringStream("<root>");
mis.addStreames(ises);
mis.addStream(new StringStream("</root>");
XMLReader r = ......
r.parse(mis);

    So you want us to write it for you? It's pretty straight forward, first parse the xml file with the *[best java xml parser|http://www.google.com/search?&q=parsing+xml+in+java]* and then go through the nodes and construct the html with strings and concatination. Then write the file using *[the best java file writer|http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=writing+to+a+file+in+java]*.

  • How to merge many XML files into one?

    Hi: I got a small project to combine many XML files into one and convert the combined XML file in Excel using AppleScript. My XML files look like this:

  • Combine several XML files with same structure

    Hello,
    I have several XML files with the same structure and I want to combine them and create a new XML file to be bale to compare that information easily. It does not look very difficult but as I am very new in this I am not bale to get it
    The structure of my actual files would be something simlar to:
    Root->...-> Name->Address, Telephone
    And what I would like to have si something like
    Root->.... ->Address-> Name 1,Name 2....
    Root -> ...->Telephone-> Name 1, Name 2....
    Does anyone know how to do this.
    Thanks

    You could write a XSL transformation file that does this and transform your input file via
         * Transform XML file with a style sheet.
         * <p><b>Example:</b><p>
    <table align="center" bgcolor="#E0E0E0" border=1 cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0"><tr><td><pre style="margin-top:0; margin-bottom:0">

    String xmlFile = "C:/Project/source.xml";
    String styleSheet = "C:/Project/stylesheet.xsl";
    t.transform(xmlFile, styleSheet, fos);
    </pre></td></tr></table>
         * @param xmlfile The XML file to transform.
         * @param style Stylesheet to use for transformation.
         * @param outputStream OutputStream to write the transformed result to.

    I have made sure all my home settings are correct in my registry editor and they are. Another thing to note is the control file I am using works 100% perfectly, beautifully when called from Toad for Oracle. It is when called from the command line utility that it fails. Is there anyway to determine what the difference could be?
    So we know that I can work (toad works), but it doesn't yet work in a "cmd" environment.
    Just as any other program Toad is also a client and uses NLS and other environment settings. Maybe these are stored in the registry, maybe the are being set by Toad by reading a configuration file while it is started or while running.
    As said, on Windows its tricky...
    Setting properties in the registry will not mean that they are the same a "cmd" window or maybe not even been set.
    If you execute / run "cmd" then the "set" statement/command will output the environment settings that will be used during the livetime of that "cmd" session.

    ...In the registry you can find a lot of those variables are set for ORACLE_HOME, ORACLE_BASE, SQLPATH, maybe TNS_ADMIN, ORACLE_SID, NLS_LANG. You can find the variables IN the registry on two places. The most common one is the SYSTEM wide environment settings under //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE and in my case for 11.2 under //HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/ORACLE/KEY_OraDb11g_Home1.
    You could overrule this for to be active on "my user session", my login session as account "marco" under //HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Oracle, but no one using Windows is doing this.
    Besides the "cmd" and registry environment, there is a different place as well were you can set these parameters. In windows go to "start", click "control panel", click "system", click tab "Advanced" and then click on the button on the bottum with "Environment Variables". Here you can see the distinction between user and system wide variables as well. Here you can also set NLS_LANG, ORACLE_HOME etc. If I am not mistaken than these will be the default values used in a fresh "cmd" window session. But they can and will interfere with programs you start via clicking them. For example something a Java program like SQL Developer (and/or Toad). If those values are not overrulled by the program by for example using his own variables from a config file or else, those sessings from the "system" / control panel item will be used. If it is the wrong mix, you will encounter strange issues.
    Setting ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_BASE will be used by a lot of derived other settings for example the default place SQL*Net drivers and tnsnames aliases etc will be checked. For example setting the ORACLE_HOME to
    C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1will result in that the tnsnames aliases from
    C:\> set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\NETWORK\adminwill be used and NOT the ones maybe needed from
    C:\oracle\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\NETWORK\adminYou can overrule this behavior by setting the TNS_ADMIN variable. By default, most explicit form for example on linux and Unix, the following rule will be used by Oracle
    1) .tnsnames.ora in the home directory of the user
    2) standard default: $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin
    3) behavior can be overruled via setting $TNS_ADMINThe fact that you are able via Toad to execute it correctly proves you that it can be done. But Toad uses in your session "SQL*Net" or JDBC or ODBC or ADO or ? via its own configuration environment settings that are being set on which values...?
    Both Oracle and Toad use the OSI model (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OSI_model), both have to follow the same rules. There hasn't been changed that much over the years, character set conversions are done in the "two task common" layer of the data transport on either side (client/server) when data travels between a client and server. And don't forget a database can be also be a client when for instance database links are being used. One of the reasons to read old manuals because there the basics are still perfectly explained: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A57673_01/DOC/net/doc/NWUS233/ch2.htm#twotask (Oracle 7.3.4 Networking Manual).
    This long long story is just to show you that you have more control if you set variables explicitly in a "cmd" window (and or in a linux/unix shell (as long as the session isn't "forked")) BUT you will have to be precise. Check the environment a set those environment variables that control / that are being used by "sqlldr" (and that are probably more then you realised, for example that SQL_PATH variable is the default directory where SQL*Plus is looking and saving its "SQL" and spool "LIS" files).

  • Combine 2 xml file into 1

    hello everyone,
    can i know is it posible to combine 2 xml file into one xml file?
    if possible
    can i know how?
    thank you
    : )

    Of course you have to make up some specifications to deal with the requirements forced by XML files. For example: an XML file must have a single root element, so you can't just concatenate the two input files. So your specifications have to say whether the root element of the result is a new element, containing two children which are the original input documents, or something else.

  • Combining Multiple XML files to use in Flash

    I am still fairly new at the whole Flash...XML thing but I
    was wondering if it is possible to combine several XML files used
    to build photo galleries into one single XML file that Flash could
    then read which gallery depending on which gallery is selected.
    Basically I have about 10 photo galleries and 10 XML files. Each
    XML file is named different and in Flash I have the gallery calling
    the XML file. I was thinking it would clean things up a lot and
    make editing easier if I can some how make one XML with all the
    galleries contained inside the XML then write a variable or
    something so Flash knew which gallery to open when activated.
    Similar to how you have to write the variables for a text doc file.
    Any help would be great.

    Hi Nasakick - take a look at this tutorial; essentially
    you'll end up with what you need after inserting another layer of
    more of the same:

  • GUI to create all xml file combinations allowed by a Schema

    Well, i need to apply an schema to each of that XML files, and the output of that process it should be a new XML file "formatted" or "transformed" ( i don't know what is the word) with the attributes,... that appears in a Schema file.
    I don't know if this is possible, and how to do this, or maybe i should use a XSLT file...
    i am newbie at this technology.
    thx for your time!!!

  • Combining Multiple XML Files into One File

    Hey Everyone,
    So I am creating a program that takes in a bunch of arrays and stores them into a single xml file. I am finding out that my lag time to add these arrays to an xml file is getting worse with each array I put into it. I am placing over 5000 arrays into this file. This isn't working how I wanted it to so I have decided I will have to make multiple arrays to be able to obtain all of my arrays without having to sit here all day. I would like to have a VI that will take all of these xml files and put them together into one xml file. Does anyone have any ideas how this could be done?
    Thanks,
    Dustin

    We need to set a few groundrules for your data:
    1. XML, maybe or maybe not LV schema
    2. You will be generating multiple tests, in your example file it is always a 2D array with 2 rows and 1 column, is this for real or just an artifact of this example.  I was suspecting that you would have multiple length arrays.
    3.  What is the timescale of your data taking?  If I am doing a relatively short, easy to repeat test, I take my chances with failures and gather all the data and write it at the end.  If it is a long, difficult measurement I tend to write in intervals (not necessarily every test, but typically every 5-10 minutes).
    If your data is fixed size, like the example file, you can append your individual arrays into one large 2D array in a couple of different ways and write the single array to the XML file.  This is more compact.  If it is not the same size, I was suggesting that you append only the new XML text to the end of the file as you go along.  At the end you finish up by writing the closing tag.  If there is a problem before that, the XML file is not readable, but easily fixed by simply adding the closing tag.  You can even get fancy by keeping track of the offset of the start of the closing tag and start overwriting the new XML+close tag at that point.  This means the file is readable even during the intermediate steps, but you are not writing the whole thing.
    I can help with an example or two once you specify the data requirements a little more.

  • How to export table contents in xml file format through SQL queries

    hi,
    i need to export the table data in to xml file format. i got it through the GUI what they given.
    i'm using Oracle 10g XE.
    but i need to send the table name from Java programs. so, how to call the export commands from programming languages through. is there any sql commands to export the table contents in xml format.
    and one more problem is i created each transaction in two tables. for example if we have a transaction 'sales' , that will be saved in db as
    sales1 table and sales2 table. here i maintained and ID field in sales1 as PK. and id as FK in sales2.
    i get the combined data with this query,
    select * from sales1 s1, sales2 s2 where s1.id=s2.id order by s1.id;
    it given all the records, but i'm getting two ID fields (one from each table). how to avoid this. here i dont know how many fields will be there in each table. that will be known at runtime only.
    the static information is sales1 have one ID field with PK and sales2 will have one ID filed with FK.
    i need ur valuable suggestions.
    regards
    pavan.

    You can use DBMS_XMLGEN.getXML('your Query') for generating data in tables to XML format and you can use DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWSETTAG to change the parent element name other wise it will give rowset as well as DBMS_XMLGEN.SETROWTAG for row name.
    Check this otherwise XMLELEMENT and XMLFOREST function are also there to convert data in XML format.

  • How to retrieve image from XML  file

    Hi All,
    I am new to XML. So any best guidance is appreciated.
    The application requirement is to display image retrived from uploaded xml file in file upload section of our application. And store that image in database.
    In my XML file , images & strings & numbers & booleans are there . I am able to save everything in database except images .
    I am using JSF, Seam & Hibernate combination. In my Hibernate entity class i took BLOB datatype for image.
    I am using following tags in my Xhtml file to display image
    <s:graphicImage value="#{hibernateentitybean.picBlobtype}" height="200" width="200">
    <s:transformImageSize width="200" height="200" />
    <s:transformImageType contentType="image/jpeg"/>
    But image is not displayed in Xhtml file
    I am using org.w3c.dom.Document for retrieving node name & corresponding value in that node in XML file.
    I am getting code like below for Image when i am logging all values from XML files in my bean class .
    x0lGQRQAAAABAAAAAAAAAFJHAQARAAAAVwBhAHQAZQByACAAbABpAGwAaQBlAHMALgBqAHAAZwAAAP/Y/+AAEEpGSUYAAQIBAGAAYAAA/+0YLl
    I want to convert this value to image. So i can convert image to bytes and store in BLOB.
    Can anyone guide me ? or any other approach .
    Thanks in advance for any reply.

    final byte[] data = decoder.decodeBuffer(cdata);
    Blob blob = new SerialBlob(data);//or what ever other DB-specific blob implementaiton Did i answered original question? Any more comments to my first replay?I can comment on this latest code. The package sun.misc is private to Sun (Oracle now of course). It is undocumented and may change or be removed altogether in a future release. There is a good free open source Base64 decoder in the Jakarta Commons Codec library.

  • How to use multiple ejb-jar.xml files

    Hello -
    If the project you work on has a lot of beans that you need to configure them in one ejb-jar.xml file. Then ejb-jar.xml file will be getting bigger and bigger. I am wondering if there is any way to divide the ejb-jar.xml file into multiple sub ejb-jar.xml files and then combin them together when deploy it. Same question question for the vendor ejb-jar.xml like weblogic-ejb-jar.xml.
    Thanks!
    Ben

    HI Ben,
    No, there is no notion of combining ejb-jar.xmls at deployment time in Java EE. There is no
    set limit on the number of ejb components within an ejb-jar module either.
