Combo box displays value instead of label

I have several combo boxes on a vi that will occasionally start displaying the value of an certain items instead of the string label when an element is selected. The only way to fix it is to deleted the combo box and replace it with another. This has happened several times on the same vi. Sometimes it is ok when the vi is run in the IDE but shows up in an executable. Is this a bug?

I think this is to be expected. Your control will have a value with no associated text.
It would be much more dangerous if LabVIEW would randomly change (e.g. coerce) the value when the strings array gets shorter by some mechanism.
You have several possibilities, for example:
(1) Check the value and coerce to the highest valid entry or switch to entry zero.
(2) Keep the array of strings at constant size, but replace the unwanted entries with empty strings (see attached), the string "out of range", "invalid selection", or similar.

Response to mouse click by combo box list and underlying clickable label

Hello,
we developed a label responding to a mouse click by opening and thereby displaying an associated help text. The label extends a project specific hierarchy of labels and thus implements MouseListener, of course. Now we encountered a strange problem: It occurs when a combo box is placed above such a label in a panel. By clicking the combo box a selective list drops down and covers the label. As soon as a mouse click is performed on a list item directly covering (i.e., right in front of) the clickable label not only this item is selected but the help screen associated with the underlying label is displayed, too. So the mouse click is processed twice: as proposed by the combo box and unwantedly by the label. This behaviour could not be reproduced on other components being placed below a combobox. So the label itself seems to be the cause but we cannot imagine what could exactly be the reason for this double reaction. Perhaps anyone heard of something like that?
We are currently working with IBM Visual Age for Java 2.0 (Java version 1.1.8 with the according Swing version). The clickable label reflectively calls methods of a model to determine whether help is available and if so later on to open this help text.

Thank you for your response. I tried both to check the focus and to consume the event. But I had to learn that labels are not able to catch the focus. I also was not able to consume an appropriate event of the combobox. So I finally solved the problem by extending JButton and implementing ActionListener. Thus my labels are actually buttons but I changed their appearance and behaviour so one cannot distinguish them from labels.

Populating Combo Box list value In Multiple Row

i to have the same problem .
I have used add_list_element to populate the list value of the combo box in multiple row.
I am selecting the list value from the database where the combo box value will be different for each row. However, when i do this.
All the previous row combo box list value will follow the combo box value in the last row. How can i resolve this?
i tried with lov but hasnt had any sucesss.in case of LOV can we make the list to appear automatuically and select a value????i havent had much sucesss over it??
is thr any work around for this apart from lov?

The option label you mean? No, those aren't sent as request parameters. Only the currently selected option value will be. But why would you ever need to get it as request parameter? Usually you already know the value-label pairs in the server side. Just have some Map<ValueType, LabelType> in the backing bean, display it as dropdown list using f:selectItems and in the action method you can just get the label by selected value. Whyever you need the label for.
That said, a "combo box" is a technically wrong term in this case. It's actually a "dropdown list". A combo box is a manually editable dropdown list. The h:selectOneMenu isn't, it's a fixed dropdown list.

Combo Box - List Value Property

I have a combo box in a form (Forms 10G) which is populated at runtime using values from a parameter table.But when I generate the form it gives a warning message that the list item property has to be filled .
The combo box should display only the values from the database but it should not have any default values.
How can I supress the warning message and avoid entering the list values proeprty at design time.

The warning is part of forms functionality, but is just that, a Warning, and the form should compile if not an error exists. Not sure if there's a way to suppress it, and You can simply leave the list with no values in Your design, as You will provide them at runtime. If coding is ok Your list should display the values You extract from the DB

Populating a combo box using values in a table

I am trying to populate a drop down box with values from a table. I have got so far.
The combo box is populated however the values in the box are blank.
Can some suggest the necessary modifications?

The ocifetch() function needs ociresult() to get the data. See

You might want to use oci_fetch_assoc() instead.

NB Oci_fetch_assoc() is a PHP 5 function. If you don't have it, then
you are using PHP 4 which has a much older version of the OCI8
extension. I'd recommend upgrading PHP, or just replacing the old

Help needed on combo-box dynamic values??

i need to populate values in 2 combo-boxes where the values
in the second combo is dependent on the first .. from db ...
i.e if i select a value in 1 combo then the values in the second combo should be populated accordingly from the db..
pls suggest on this.

You can use onchange event of the first combo box, then you can submit a form sending the first combo box value, then response filling the second combo box.
If you don't want to make a request, you should use ajax to get data from database.

Combo Box Valid Values Update

I'm developing a Form which has BP Code and a ComboBox which, after entering a valid Supplier in the BPCode EditText, updates the ComboBox with the Supplier Catalog Numbers of all the Items where the CardCode (in OITM) matches the BPCode. I have this working for the first change of BPCode but when the BPCode changes I want to update the ComboBox ValidValues. I have tried many methods but cannot remove the ValidValues which are already there. I have tried linking the ComboBox to a DataTable, clearing the DataTable and rebinding but this doesn't seem to work either.
Any help on removing ValidValues from a list when I don't know what is already there (as the VV list is now out of scope) or adding a data bound ComboBox would be most appreciated.

Silver Combo Box Display Style Bug

[LV2011, Windows XP]
There appears to be a small bug with the Silver-style Combo Box control when you right-click and select Visible Items->Display Style. For the string control a glyph appears properly, but for the combo box the glyph appears in the wrong place, and the colours are wrong. In fact, the glyph only appears properly if you click on it, or do something else to force a redraw of the control.
This combo box is a bit confusing, since it has no "Radix Shadow" part like the string control does, and in fact only the Silver-style combo box lets you display the "Display Type" glyph. The other styles of combo box have no "Display Type" feature in the "Visible Items" menu, but the "Display Style Visible" checkbox does appear on the "Appearance" tab of the Properties dialog box (though checking it has no effect, and it appears unchecked if you re-launch the dialog box".
I've attached a new version of the control which is close to fixing the bug, but the glyph region is 1 pixel skinnier than the string version. Copy this to your "..\vi.lib\silver_ctls\String" folder if you want it to replace the version in the palettes.

Good catch, there is now a Corrective Action Request filed for this issue. It is correct that this property is
not supported by the Combo Box found in the Modern Palette. However, this should at least be documented in the
"Display Style Visible" property documentation if this is case, which it is not.

Display value instead of key in input field with LOV?

Sorry, this is so basic I'm sure it must be easy but somehow I can't find it in the documentation. The LOCATION table contains a foreign key referencing the CLIMATE table. As well as its primary key, CLIMATE has a column called NAME holding the name of the climate (e.g. temperate, tropical, etc.). The user must be able to update the climate value for the location he is working on. So I have a list of values which looks up possible climate names, the user selects the name he wants and the value gets set in the LOCATION table. That works, but the problem is that the input item displays the key value of the CLIMATE record, and I need it to display the value of NAME instead. Of course I can have another field showing the name, but that is messy, the user doesn't understand the key value and shouldn't have to see it. So how do I make one input field display the NAME, while actually updating the key value from the LOV choice?

Thank you, Joseba. It does help to some extent. Now I have a non-updatable field with the climate name in it, and below that is the magnifying-glass icon that invokes the list of values. I guess that's not bad, and I can put a label next to the magnifying class saying "Click to select climate". So it's better, but still looks very odd compared to updating fields that are in the LOCATION table itself, where it's an updatable field and the maginfying glass is right next to it. Really the user should not have to behave differently just because the database chooses to hold the value that he wants to alter as a reference to another table.
Is there at least a way to put the list of values magnifying-glass next to the field that displays teh value, rather than underneath it? They are all inside a thing called "af:panelFormLayout", and I tried setting MaxColumns to 2 in its properties, but it still won't let me move the list-of-values field alongside the other one.

Printing Multiselect LOV display values instead of code

I have a report with a multiselect LOV (shows text, returns code), so users can choose one or more things based on the description but when they "print" (using the navigation bar print option to open a printer friendly page), the multiselect field on this new page has the codes, not the text. How can I make the text show up here too? (Apex 3.0)

Oh - I see what I was saying wrong - it's a summary report that is having the problem - I am not returning the details, only a series of counts of various data (there are about 20 columns). Each column is a count of people, broken down by age group and gender. So the :P89_ENVIRONMENT value shows up with its text value when only one is selected from the multiselect, but when more than one is chosen, the text is replaced by the list of values separated by colons.
I.E. (with one environment selected)
Environment, Total, Females 10-20, Males 10-20, Females 20-30, Males 20-30 [...]
Woods 2 1 0 0 1
I.E. (with 4 environments selected)
Environment, Total, Females 10-20, Males 10-20, Females 20-30, Males 20-30 [...]

The report query looks like this:

This is my query. When I run it, i get "no rows selected", which is true because there is no data for pe.pet_tar_amount for the given dates. But, I want to display the Month as NOV-02 and 0 for sum(pe.pet_tar_amount).

I need help, retrieving a combo boxes actual value, not the export value.
I have a combo box with multiple options to select from.
each of those selections has a separate export value, which is in the form of a number, which I use to calculate dates in a separate field.
However, I have another field that i want to retrieve the, users selected value, which is text, from the combo box instead of the export value.
Is there an easy way to do this.
This is what I am currently using. But like I said the results are that I retrieve the export value and not the selected text value.

First get the currentValueIndices property of the combo box and use it with the getItemAt field method to return (what I call) the display value. Something like:

Display issue with Combo Boxes and Logo

Hi All,
I am facing a couple of issues with my dashboard:
1. Combo boxes display - I have placed a series of combo boxes one below the other. During the preview, when I click on the first combo box, the values spread below. That is, the labels, and options of the next combo box are also visible. The options in the combo box are not seen clearly. I have tried many permutations and combinations with "Bring Forward +" and "Send Back -" but none of them seem to work. For example, keeping the first combo as bring forward and next one as send back etc. Can you please help me in this regard?
2. Logo - I have used image component and embedded a logo from my local system. Later I saved the xlf in the repository. When I import the xlf from the platform, it displays the logo fine. But however, this behavior is not constant. It sometimes doesn't show the image. Do I have to save the image also in the repository? or in a common shared folder? If I embed the logo does it not mean that the xlf hold the copy?
Any help in this regards is highly appreciated.

For your question
1) Do you need your combox overlapped? I tried to overlap my comb box and preview it, seems works fine for me. it only chooses the first comb box. But I am suggesting that if you want to show/hide the different combox in the same position at run time, you can try to control the visibility by some other component.
2) The answer is NO, the image embedded in the image component will be saved to xlf file, there is no need to save it individually. Try to clean your cache files in your machine and do it again.

Value of two combo box is not persistent on change of a third combo box

I have flex page in which i have 3 combo boxes. I would be
selecting first 2 combo box and when i select the third combo box ,
i would get the value of previous two combo selection and display
data accordingly.
My problme here is when i do a change in 3rd combo box the
values of other combo boxed are defaulted to "Select..." without
maintaining my previous selection.
I am stuck in this for a while. I would really appreciate if
you can help me out in this.
