Command conversion from CatOS 8.4 to IOS 15.0SY

Upgrading an old 6509 running CatOS  to a new 6509E running IOS 15.0SY.  The switch is a core switch that does not have any phones plugged into it but does support voip traffic across the enterprise.  The qos on the switch is as follows
#qos
set qos enable
set qos map 1p2q2t tx 1 2 cos 0
set qos map 1p2q2t tx 2 1 cos 2
set qos map 1p2q2t tx 2 1 cos 3
set qos map 1p2q2t tx 2 2 cos 6
set qos wrr 1p2q2t 30 70
set qos txq-ratio 1p2q2t 30 40 30
set qos wred 1p2q2t tx queue 1 40:80 80:100
set qos wred 1p2q2t tx queue 2 70:80 80:100
What type of qos should I use on the new switch to achieve the same functionality as the old switch?
Thanks

Hi
The answer will actually depend on what traffic you want to prioritize and how much you want to prioritize.
Or you have special requirements like limiting the bandwidth or something like that.
I'd say at the initial stage auto qos is the best option and in case you face any issues tweak it accordingly as you go.
Thanks

  • 6509 conversion from CatOS to IOS

I am interested in hearing from those who have converted from CatOS to IOS using 6500 as primarily a LAN switch with InterVLAN routing. Are there valid reasons / advantages to running IOS over CatOS? It seems to me that the CatOS is more efficient language for configuring switch ports and the IOS is better for configuring routing. I use 6509 in the core for server farms mostly and with the integration of many IOS based switches (3750) I am considering migrating the 6509 to IOS as well.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    Greg,
Cisco may support CATOS for a while, but I do think that they may end of life it in the future. Thats why there is a big push on the IOS over CATOS.
I feel that the IOS is equally efficient in configuring switch ports as CATOS. You can use interface range commands to configure common parameters to a range of switch ports. And the great thing about configuring switchports in IOS is that it will have the same syntax like your 3750 switches.
Here is a link that compares commands on both switches which will help a lot after migration.

  • Catalyst 5505 conversion from CatOS to IOS

I want to know if somebody has the CatOS to IOS conversion procedure for a Catalyst 5505.
    Thank´s a lot
    Jorge

The Cat 5000s always run only CATOS. Only the L3 module supports IOS.Only the sup engines on the6500 and7600 support theconversion from CATOS toIOS.

  • Catalyst 6509 Conversion from CatOS to IOS.

    Hi,
I am converting a Cat6509 Sup720 CatOS to IOS.The switch also has a FWSM configured. During converting CatOS to IOS will the FWSM configuration be erased or affected by any means ?
    Regards
    Kas

there should be no affect or deletion/problems with the FWSM during your IOS conversion.
haven't seen any issues in my LAB. the conversion process has a part where the CatOS commands/config are converted to the IOS commands/config required.
you should make sure you backup the FWSM configuration and partitions before you begin.
please see the following link for the CatOS to IOS conversion tasks for the sup720:

  • Sup32 from CATOS to IOS

I am about to begin a conversion from CATOS to IOS. I was wondering if I could do the following:
1: Use a new flash card, and format it in an NATIVE IOS Sup720
2: Put the correct code and configuration on it
3: Put it in the Sup32 and rebooted it
Would this then allow the Sup32 to boot up using IOS and not CATOS. I know I may have to copy the configuration from the flash to NVRAM but it seems like the quickest process, instead of the 30 minutes based on CCO documentation.
    Thanks

I actually just tried this and it workerd. I took a sup32 that was running CATOS. Put in a CF card that was formated in a SUP720 with the IOS image on it. Replaced the on-board CF card with the new one. The system booted and couldn't find and files. I put the boot variable in ROMMON mode and bam up and running. Just had to change the bootvar in IOS and create the new config. Much faster than doing two copies of a 76MB file.

  • Migrating from Sup2GE to Sup720 Native IOS

    We are planning to migrate a 6509 chassis from a single Sup2GE & SFM to a Sup720-3B.
Can this be done without a service interruption? If so, what is the recommended procedure for this?
If anyone has done this, I would love to hear your story.
    Thanks in advance.
    John

    John,
Definitely this asks for downtime. I hope you are familiar with the fact that there are two trains of OSes (CATOS and IOS) for the 6509 Sups. IF you are running CATOS now (hybrid) and migrate to SUP 720 which also run's hyrbid then you are OK with not having to convert Operating systems. If you want to use IOS (router like) features on the 6509 after you migrate to Sup 720, you may need to install IOS on the Sup 720. You will also need to convert your existing configs from CATOS to IOS so that your new Sup retains all the configurations that your old switch had.
I would recommend that you keep the OS same on both Sup's so that the migration goes smoother and later on if you want to conver OSes you can do it at a later time. Remember there is a lot of difference in syntax between the commands used in both OSes. Here are a few links that may help understand the diff.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a008010e9d5.shtml
If you are converting OSes you will need to refer to this link.
For conversion from CATOS to IOS
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_tech_note09186a008015bfa6.shtml
For conversion from IOS to CATOS
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps700/products_tech_note09186a00801350b8.shtml
THe conversion process takes about 30 mins to an hour depending upon how familiar you are with the conversion process. Remember not to miss any step specified in the above links while conversion.I would definitely recommend, to test this procedure in lab before you are comfortable with doing this in production.
In addition to all this, here is a tool that will convert your current CATOS configs to IOS syntax.
    http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/Support/CatCfgConversion/catcfg_xlat.pl
You will need your CCO login and password.

  • IMessage - "new conversations from" ios 7   iMessage backups

Hi, So I'm having two issues at the moment but I'll start with the "new conversations" issue. I just upgraded to the 5S and did a iTunes restore on the phone, restored using my backup and then activated iMessage which took a few hours before it actually happened. Any time I try and start a new conversation from my mobile (cell) number, iMessage automatically sends it as a standard SMS message (green) and not as a blue iMessage but when I start the conversation from an email address, iMessage works as normal but from "Messages" on my Macbook, I can send from my mobile number just fine so I'm not sure what's wrong.
The second issue I'm having is that on my Mac, I have way more messages from one of my contacts, they go back quite a while but on my iphone they only go back as far as start of September. Any way how I can get iMessage on my Mac to force sync to my iphone and reload all my messages?
    Regards,
    Michael

bump. first issue resolved, second I'm still experiencing issues with.

  • MS Access Update Inner Join command conversion

I have code in a Microsoft Access Database View, that I'm trying to convert to Oracle. I tried using Oracle SQL Developer's Migration tool and it basically skipped this command.
    Update Table1 INNER JOIN Table2 On Table1.COL1 = Table2.COL2 SET Table1.COL3 = 1;
I've tried a number of things including selecting all the rows with something like
    select * from Table1 o inner join Table2 t on o.COL1 = t.COL2
and then trying to somehow hook it to an update command where the command gets the above results and does a Table1.COL3 = 1 on all of those rows.
However I can't get the syntax correct.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks,
    Jeff
BTW: The code is in a MS Access view but probably belongs in a stored procedure. It also uses a Access-only Boolean instead of 1, which may be part of the reason the command conversion failed.

    maybe this?
    Update Table1
       set Table1.COL3 = 1
    Where Table1.col1 in (select table2.col2 from table2);
    or
    Update Table1
       set Table1.COL3 = 1
    Where exists (select 'x'
                     from table2
                    where table2.col2 = table1.col1);note: untested.

  • ACS command authorization - deny CatOS "set" commands

    Cisco Secure ACS 4.2
I have a network support group that i just want to deny them the ability to use IOS and CatOS configuration commands.
I noticed that the Per Group Command Authorization is applicable to only IOS-based commands. I applied it to deny "configure", but permit everything else.
How do I go about setting this group up to deny set-based commands for the CatOS devices?

    Hi
CatOS does TACACS+ right? Pretty sure it does. If it has a "shell/exec" service like IOS then ACS wont really care whether the command authorisation is IOS or CatOS - it doesnt have any specific command set knowledge. ie it uses string comparisons between what the device is requesting and what is permitted.
However, if the command authorisations are totally different (between IOS and catos devices) you might need to place them into separate NDGs so that you can map an IOS NDG to an IOS device command set and vice versa.
    Hope that makes sense!

  • IPhone 6 plus- how to delete some of the texts feeds in a conversation from a sender without deleting all texts from sender?

How can you delete some of the text messages  from a sender without deleting the entire conversation from that sender? After selecting the message or messages...the top left option is "delete all" and the top right says "cancel". I simply want to save some of the history of the texts and delete those that are no longer needed.

    Hey Mari7Can,
Thanks for the follow up. Hmmm…the options should have shown at the bottom of the screen. Let’s try forcing the Messages application to close and restarting your phone:

  • Sync old iMessage conversations from iPhone to new iPad & Mac?

I have had my iPhone for a couple years now, and have accumulated a fairly large amount of iMessage conversations from various people. A few days ago, I purchased my first iPad and also updated my Mac to Mountain Lion. By doing so, I now have access to iMessage on three devices in total, whereas before I only had one.
I have managed to setup my devices so that all new iMessages I send and receive are being synced between them. However, is it possible to sync my old iMessage conversations from my iPhone back onto my iPad and Mac?
I would like to do so in order to keep a full record of the past conversations I have had with my contacts.
I have done a bit of research before posting, but the only related topics I found werehttps://discussions.apple.com/message/19095937 andhttps://discussions.apple.com/message/17818920. The former was left unresolved, whereas the latter describes a solution which I am unable to reproduce.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Hi,
For me this was very early on in my Mountain Lion days.
I would now say that you cannot sync iMessages from an iOS device that were sent before your linked any Apple ID with the iPhone Number or added the Mac to the use of the Apple ID.
At the point at which and Apple ID is used on both an iPad and the Mac version of Messages becomes it's "Start date"
The same can be said for adding an Apple ID to an iPhone and the Mac.
On the Mac all messages can be saved if you wish.
This are in the .ichat format which you can send to Mac  Buddies and then can open them and read them as if they were the chat (i.e they display as "chats').
There appears to be no way in iTunes to access the iMessages (or SMS ones) on the iPhone.
Someone who knows more about the iOS may be able to tell you if they are accessible another way.

  • Imessage sends messages from email despite selecting phone number for "start new conversations from"

On both my phone and my computer I have selected to start new conversations from my phone number, but just now I continued a conversation from my macbook and it sent it from my email address instead of my phone number! All the other answers I found for this question were outdated, I couldn't find "Caller ID" in settings for iOS 8 or Yosemite.

If this is a continuing conversation, I don't believe the device looks at it as a new conversation, which is what that setting is for, from what I understand. If there is a checkmark by the phone number on all devices, then it should start there, but if the conversation was originally started from the email, I believe it will continue until you start a new conversation.

  • Restore an iMessage conversation from Mac to iPhone

    Hi,
A couple of months ago, I deleted a contact from my address book, along with the corresponding iMessage conversation from this contact.  Both the contact and the conversation were manually deleted from my Mac and my iPhone (I think, although maybe I just deleted it from my iPhone?).  Both devices are using the same AppleID/iCloud account.
About a month ago, I added the contact back in (I can't recall if I added the contact back on my Mac first or my iPhone first) and the entire iMessage conversation had been restored on my Mac (I was actually quite amazed that the entire conversation was restored on the Mac.  I didn't really know that all that is stored in lCloud).  On my iPhone, however, only the iMessage conversation messages that were exchanged since the contact was added back in are present on the iPhone.
Is there a way to force the iPhone to refresh the entire conversation from this particular contact from iCloud, or from my Mac?
I use iCloud backup to back up my phone, not my Mac.
    Thanks!

    iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.1

Not that I know of. You would have to restore a back-up of the iPhone before the message was deleted. You can also take screen shots on the Mac of the conversation. That would save the conversation in your photos, and you can sync those. Maybe someone else can chime in if I'm missing something.
