Command syntax for PR4000B
Hi, i've seen in this forum that many people had problems to "comunicate" with MKS PR4000. But still, I'm not able to take the advantage from discussed problems concerning comunication with mentioned device. Thus, I really appriciate if you can give me any suggestions or help to solve the problem which i present bellow.
I have PR4000B with single-channel which controls one barotron trancducer. I'm trying to comunicate with PR4000B via serial port (RS232). The problem is that i really trying (like trial-and-error), because the manual from MKS for sending the command to PR4000B is very bad understandable for me (and even not only for me, as i could see from forum on NI) as well as the answer from PR400B. I produced the simple program for reading the measured value by barotron (command representing by ASCII character $). If i compare value displayed on the PR4000B with value displayed in my program indicator "Measured value"), they are different. The program and manual are attached.
Please, could somebody give me a suggestion what I'm doing wrong?
Thank you fo your reply in advance.

The problem is solved!
Afterwards I wasn´t able to decode the comunication with PR4000B single channel I wrote to MKS technical support. They were very kind and reply to me.
They admit that (as Andreas Meier from MKS wrote to me): "The remote communication with the PR4000-Single Channel and PR4000-Dual Pressure Channel is indeed a bit difficult to attain. When we developed these PRs we were very limited with regards to capacities of ADDA converters and of course memory."
And this is very important message: "To ease things at least a little bit the very first command to the PR should be " %1 ". This will tell the PR to accept ASCII-letters; If you don't send the command the PR will only accept binary signals." This is not stated in manual for PR4000!!
After sending the command " %1 " the communication with PR4000B is really easy! E..g. if you want read a measured value, write command "$" (ASCII) and from "read bufer" string indicator for function VISA read.vi the actual value measured by PR4000B is displayed. Then, it is not difficult task to convert it whatever want, moreover you can easily check if the output from PR4000B is correct.
I'd like to express my thanks to Andreas again and hope that this information will be helpfull for somebody else!

Problem with 'LS' command syntax for generating 'recursive' files list
I'm having trouble getting a recursive (-R) directory listing of the contents of a flash drive --
-- i.e., when I run the 'ls' command with the -R switch (in Terminal), I get either a recursive directory of what appears to be 'all volumes' (i.e., a very large file) or a zero-byte (empty) file.
Terminal also keeps reporting "No such file or directory" but I don't know what it's referring to (it reports it with both the 'zero byte' listing and the 'large file' listing).
Obviously, I'm making some 'syntax error' but I don't know what it is.
Assuming the following . . .
User = MK
Flash drive = NO NAME
. . . what is the correct command syntax to list only the contents of the flash drive (not 'all volumes')?
My last try (it doesn't work) was:
*ls -RTlp /Users/MK/Volumes/NO\ NAME > /Users/MK/Documents/flashdrive.dir*
Thanks.Re: the original post, I should clarify that what I'm looking for is the syntax that will generate the recursive list of the flash drive's files +without first logging the flash drive+ (NO\ NAME) +as the working folder+.
If I do the latter, I can get the recursive listing easily enough.
What I haven't been able to do is generate the listing without first logging NO\ NAME as the working folder.
Thanks. -

The correct syntax for a recursive chmod command in Terminal
I need to set recursive permissions on an external HDD to '777' or 'all read&write'.
I have tried all of the following commands in Terminal:
sudo chmod 777 -r /Volumes/...
sudo chmod -r 777 /Volumes/...
sudo chmod a+rw -r /Volumes/...
sudo chmod -r a+rw /Volumes/...
...all of which being back a 'no such file or directory' error, e.g.
sudo chmod 777 -r /Volumes/232Gb
chmod: -r: No such file or directory
Can anyone confirm the correct syntax for this command?
Thanks in advance...
Message was edited by: ChippyDeluxeIf there were a solution that didn't involve using Terminal, I would prefer that.
The reason I ask is, since my old iMac died and I connected my iMac's external HDD to my MacBook, thousands of folders on my external HDD have 'stop signs' on them and require me to go to
Get Info -> Sharing & Permissions
...and add my MacBook username and set the privilege as "read and write". A bigger problem is, no backup software I've tried will back up this external HDD onto another external HDD any more, so I no longer have an up-to-date backup, which is very worrying.
I am looking for a way of fixing this, and the chmod command appears to be the answer.
Ideally, I don't want any permission restrictions on my external HDD at all, so I can connect it to any machine without problems. -
Hello,
I need to validate if a database has been backed up succesfully so I want to execute rman validates command.
I checked oracle manuals and I found validates command is a parameter of restore command:
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10770/rcmsynta65.htm#86797
http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10770/rcmsynta51.htm#85191
I already duplicated databases using rman, but I'm not sure about syntax for validating. Is the following code right if I want just to validate database backup?
rman rcvcat rman/rman@rman target sys/password@database auxiliary / cmdfile /home/oracle/restore_dup.sh
Where restore_dup.sh is:
run {
allocate auxiliary channel 'dev_0' type 'sbt_tape';
allocate auxiliary channel 'dev_1' type 'sbt_tape';
allocate auxiliary channel 'dev_2' type 'sbt_tape';
allocate auxiliary channel 'dev_3' type 'sbt_tape';
restore target database validates;
Note that...
- OS is HP-UX 11.00
- Database is Oracle 8.1.7
- I CANNOT recover anything as database I want to validate is a production environment.
Thanks in advance for your help.

SQL Command code for multiple value string parameter
Hi,
I'm using crystal 2008 and there is a check box for multiple value SQL Command I need some help in writing the SQL Command code for oracle (or sql server) for a multiple value STRING parameter.
Thanks in advance,
MarilynI could be wrong here, but I do not believe you can pass a multiple valued parameter to an SQL Command data source. How I have gotten around this in the past is to put the "real" report into a subreport. In the main report, create a formula field (basic syntax):
formula = join({?parameter}, "|")
Then, use this to pass the selected values to the subreport's parameter (call it {?sr-parm}). The SQL Command in the subreport can then use that (MS SQL):
select *
from table
where charindex(table.field, '{?sr-parm}') > 0

Thanking You for helping (in advance).Dear Ashish,
BRBACKUP / BRARCHIVE calls the operating system command to copy the files.
Simple approach to get the commands is as follows.
1. Set the BR_TRACE (as given in the SAP note 29321) and run the command for which you need to know the OS / SQL commands.
2. This will generate the log file with the trace information. This trace has the information of the commands used by the job you have run.
Hope this helps.

Error when creating or updating command syntax in an ODI procedure
Hi - I'm new to ODI and trying to create/update a procedure. It doesn't seem like it matters whether the sql statement is correct or not a generic message always seems to be displayed when the command syntax is modified. On a different machine, this is not a problem and procedures can be created or modified. I've compared the setup of the two machines and they appear to be the same. Outside of ODI, I can connecting or executing sql statements without any issues.

Applescript: "execute menu command" syntax

Anyone know the syntax for using:
execute menu command v : executes a menu command using the menu shortcut string
execute menu command
menu command string text : menu command shortcut
I can't figure out what string to use for the "menu command string" argument.
Thanks!Hi,

Nano syntax highlighting: catch-all syntax for configuration files
After years of using nano, I only recently learned that it supports syntax coloring... (Why would they turn that off by default? ) Well, I thought I'll make up for it by making extra good use of it from now on...
Unfortunately it didn't ship a highlighting syntax for the the kind of files that I use nano the most for: system configuration files.
So I wrote my own, and after tweaking a bit here and there whenever I encountered a config file for which the highlighting wasn't satisfactory at first, I think the result is now good enough (screenshots below) that it's worth sharing with my fellow Arch users:
Code & Instructions:
Here is the syntax definition:
# config file highlighting
syntax "conf" "(\.(conf|config|cfg|cnf|rc|lst|list|defs|ini|desktop|mime|types|preset|cache|seat|service|htaccess)$|(^|/)(\w*crontab|mirrorlist|group|hosts|passwd|rpc|netconfig|shadow|fstab|inittab|inputrc|protocols|sudoers)$|conf.d/|.config/)"
# default text
color magenta "^.*$"
# special values
icolor brightblue "(^|\s|=)(default|true|false|on|off|yes|no)(\s|$)"
# keys
icolor cyan "^\s*(set\s+)?[A-Z0-9_\/\.\%\@+-]+\s*([:]|\>)"
# commands
color blue "^\s*set\s+\<"
# punctuation
color blue "[.]"
# numbers
color red "(^|\s|[[/:|<>(){}=,]|\])[-+]?[0-9](\.?[0-9])*%?($|\>)"
# keys
icolor cyan "^\s*(\$if )?([A-Z0-9_\/\.\%\@+-]|\s)+="
# punctuation
color blue "/"
color brightwhite "(\]|[()<>[{},;:=])"
color brightwhite "(^|\[|\{|\:)\s*-(\s|$)"
# section headings
icolor brightyellow "^\s*(\[([A-Z0-9_\.-]|\s)+\])+\s*$"
color brightcyan "^\s*((Sub)?Section\s*(=|\>)|End(Sub)?Section\s*$)"
color brightcyan "^\s*\$(end)?if(\s|$)"
# URLs
icolor green "\b(([A-Z]+://|www[.])[A-Z0-9/:#?&$=_\.\-]+)(\b|$| )"
# XML-like tags
icolor brightcyan "</?\w+((\s*\w+\s*=)?\s*("[^"]*"|'[^']*'|!?[A-Z0-9_:/]))*(\s*/)?>"
# strings

# comments
color white "#.*$"
color blue "^\s*##.*$"
color white "^;.*$"
color white start="<!--" end="-->"
To install, save the above above code snippet as a file called conf.nanorc in the folder /usr/share/nano/ (or /usr/local/share/nano/ or similar if you feel strongly about the /usr <--> /usr/local separation), and then add the following to the end of the file /etc/nanorc:
## Configuration files (catch-all syntax)
include "/usr/share/nano/conf.nanorc"
Hints:
The colors I chose look good (imo) with the terminal background and color settings that I use, but might not look good, or even readable, with yours, so simply change the color names in the code snippet to whatever you prefer - valid color names are:
If you use a console with white background, you'll have to change at least the white color I chose for comments and punctuation.
The first code line in the snippet includes a regular expression that defines for which file names this syntax highlighting should be used. Whenever you encounter a config file that is not matched by this, but you would still like to open it with syntax highlighting, you can manually select this syntax with nano's -Y switch, like so:
nano -Y conf myConfigFile
Technical Note:
It's implemented as a single catch-all syntax, since nano chooses which syntax to apply based on the filename, and in the case of config files usually not much can be learned about the content format from the file name extension (.conf can by anything from flat key/value tuples to XML, .ini can be the official INI format or something else, etc...).
This means that some compromises have been made, so with this highlighting syntax probably no config file looks 100% as good as a highlighting syntax that would be specifically optimized for one kind of config format, but all in all the vast majority of config files should look pretty good.

/etc/rc.conf, /etc/hosts:
/etc/pacman.conf, /etc/group:
xorg.conf, some .desktop file:

nano syntax highlighting: GNU makefiles
Update [2012-01-28]: Made some more improvements to the syntax definition (see post)

You mean GNU makefiles?
I'm afraid they might be out of scope for this generic config-file syntax.
Logically they're not system config files, and technically they're a pretty specialized and complex format (different "types" of rules, rules spanning multiple lines, rules containing arbitrary Bash code, etc.).
This is how an .mk file currently looks with this highlighting syntax:
$ nano -Y conf /usr/lib/httpd/build/rules.mk
And apart from highlighting variables of the form $$abc or $(abc), I'm not sure how much can be improved here without breaking the highlighting for more conventional config files.
It would probably be better to create a specialized highlighting syntax just for .mk files.
EDIT: I sat down and did just that, here's the result: nano syntax highlighting: GNU makefiles, and here is how the above makefile snipped looks with it:

Syntax for calling 1000 screen(abap o/p screen) from screen 200.
Hi all,
i need to change the SAP program relating to the transaction QA32.i have already changed the program & i added 2 screens in this program by using CALL SCREEN syntax.
my problem is
when i execute YQA32 (copy of QA32 with modification) transaction, i am getting the output in the screen 1000.when i double click on any material on that screen (1000), the control will go to screen 200 (CALL SCREEN 200).
everything is going fine. but in screen 200, i have putted a 'BACK' push button. if i will press 'BACK' on screen 200, it should go to screen 1000 which is normal ABAP output screen(here,the output screen of YQA32).
if i will put syntax like LEAVE TO SCREEN 1000 OR LEAVE PROGRAM OR LEAVE SCREEN, IT IS NOT WORKING. the control is directly going to program if i will add LEAVE PROGRAM.
what syntax i need to use to come to screen 1000 from screen 200 in the BACK user command of screen 200.plz suggest.
Thanks & Regards
pabitraHi joseph,
thanks for ur help.The output of QA32 transaction is comming on the sap standard selection screen '1000'. i am not creating this screen.i just modified sap program relating to transaction QA32 & named it as YQA32.This program is ALV designed.u can check transaction QA32.
when i will put some data in the selection screen of YQA32 then i will go for execute, then my output comes on screen 1000 which is standard abap screen.i have not created screen 1000. from screen 1000, my control goes to other screen 200 by CALL SCREEN 200 statement.
so when i want to back to screen 1000 from screen 200 , i am writting LEAVE TO SCREEN 1000 in the 'BACK' user command of screen 200.but error is comming as screen 1000 does not exist.so plz suggest any syntax for this BACK operation.
