Commas in numbers?

Earlier threads allude that this isn't possible.
I've got enrollment figures in the thousands and can't seem to get commas in there without it treating them as strings.
Is that still the case?
Thanks.

Generally, data can be displayed in various ways without affecting the source, thus to answer your question, merely format the number for display purposes only.

  • Report script issue - showing comma in numbers

    Good Morning,
    I have a report script that runs on one Essbase cube and produces a datafile to load into a Planning cube via a load rule. The issue is that when I load the datafile into Planning, it says it is loaded successfully but not all of the data loads. I also do not recieve an error log. I have checked the datafile and all of the relevant data is stored. I believe that the issue is that the report script has commas in the numbers. The load rule replaces the comma with a space, but I believe this is causing an issue with the load. Perhaps there is an extra comma somewhere in the file and when the load rule loads the file, it thinks it has finished.
    My question is, how do I remove the commas within the numbers in the report script? Below is a portion of the report script.
    // This portion of the script captures data at level 2 and generation 9 within the four operating divisions to get all field level data
    <LINK (( <DESCENDANTS ("RC_P1301008017","Lev2,Entity") or <DESCENDANTS ("RC_P1301008019","Lev2,Entity") or <DESCENDANTS ("RC_P1301008021","Lev2,Entity")
    or <DESCENDANTS ("RC_P1301008029","Lev2,Entity")) and <DESCENDANTS ("RC_P1201008065","Gen9,Entity"))

    Do you use a { SUPCOMMAS } in your report script? That should suppress all commas in data values.

    FWIW, I had a Planning app like this last year. The importing of the report script output into Access (oh, the horror) to do moderately intensive mapping and aggregating was...painful. The only cool part was that I was "not allowed to source data from the app" but I could "run any retrieve I wanted so long as security allowed it". Hmm, how is that different? Okay then, report scripts are it. ;)

  • Dots and commas in numbers

    Hey, I'm doing my budget in numbers and I can't figure out how to get numbers to let me use dots instead of commas when writing sums. I'd like to be able to wrote 320.50 instead of 320,50 (320 kroner and 50 øre). I'm from Denmark and i've always been used to write dots so now I keep making mistakes.

    Change the Localization settings in System Preferences.  Open System Prefs using the menu item " > System Preferences" then choose the "Language and Region" Panel:
    Now click the "+" to add the language you want and drag it to the top of the list.  You may have to logout and back in (or reboot)

  • Removing commas from numbers

    his has a couple of items in it....
    In Numbers, I formatted a phone number column imported from a Text file, but it put in commas, like the phone is a number: 4157933161 is 4,157,933,161. Can I get rid of those commas?
    Also, I couldn't import a .txt file (a mailing list from Experian) into Numbers. When I did open the file with Numbers, Numbers put it all in 1 cell - yikes. So I had to go back to my old pc, import the .txt file (easily...) and then take that .xls file and load it on my MAC in Numbers - good golly you have got to be kidding. What am I missing. How do I import a .txt file (it actually is comma seperated but marked as an .txt file - MS Excel had no problem)
    This has to do with printing Pages or say pages from the Web. Can you print just a selection of say a Pages doc. Say I select /highlight one paragraph of a 50 page document and want to just print that, on MS in the Print page there is a box "selection" which commands the printer to only print what you selected/highlighted. Customer Care at Apple said he did not know of anyway to do this...yikes again.

    Find / Replace is your friend.
    Find "," Replace by nothing.

    Comma Separated Values files are correctly treated if their name extension is .csv.

    He is perfectly right. There is no such feature.
    As we may print a given range of pages it's not a true problem.
    We may insert temporary page breaks to do the trick.
    And of course, if you prefer MS you may stay with it !

  • How do I have Numbers recognise comma delimited information in a .csv file?

    I have a .csv file with column information delimited by commas, but Numbers does not seem to have a way to automatically recognise and format.

    Numbers should correctly open a comma separated value file and distribute it into columns and rows if your localization uses a point (not a comma) for the decimal. If your localization uses a comma for the decimal, a CSV file must use semicolons for separating the data.  Given your question, I can only assume this is your problem. If so, you need to convert the separating commas to semicolons and do so without converting commas in the data (such as in a text field).  You may also need to convert decimal points to commas without converting text periods to commas.  There may be a script to do this but if you need to do this only once in a blue moon you could change your localization to US (or equivalent), import the file, then change it back.
    I have a script for converting CSV to tab separated without affecting commas within text (text with commas is supposed to be enclosed by quotes in a CSV, that is how it knows not to convert them).  A simple Find/Replace using TextEdit won't be so careful. But if your localization uses commas for decimals and you have any decimal numbers, the script choke on those extra commas.

  • How to change dot to comma on numeric pad in Numbers?

    Hi,
    I have bought new iMac with Yosemite system and switched from Excel to Numbers.
    I have Apple's numeric pad keybord. Unfortunately, I dont know how to change the input of the "dot" key on the number pad, so that I get a comma in Numbers sheet, which would allow me to use decimals when working with numbers.
    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike,
    Lucky you with a numeric keypad. I wish I had one .
    Are there any settings in System Preferences > Keyboard?
    Perhaps the Input Sources Tab may help.
    You can also get there from System Preferences > Language & Region > (set your preferences, then click on the Keyboard Preferences button).

  • Variable to use as list of numbers for "in" clause

    Hello.
    I am writing a proc that needs to dequeue an unknown number of messages from an advanced queue, and then query a standard table, returning a cursor. I have coded most of it, but I run into trouble when there is more than one message to be dequeued (which is the most likely scenario). Here is the code as it stands:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE prc_get_actv_updts_ac(vConsumerName IN VARCHAR2,
    vQueueName IN VARCHAR2,
    vMaxIdCount IN INTEGER,
    v_retrc OUT SYS_REFCURSOR) IS
    obj consolidated_updt_msg_t;
    deq_msgid RAW(16);
    queueopts dbms_aq.dequeue_options_t;
    msgprops dbms_aq.message_properties_t;
    vIdList VARCHAR2(32767);
    vIdCount INTEGER;
    -- As we are dequeuing with the wait flag set to no_wait, an exception
    -- will be thrown when there are no messages to dequeue. This will be used to
    -- exit the loop (see below)
    no_messages EXCEPTION;
    PRAGMA EXCEPTION_INIT(no_messages, -25228);
    BEGIN
    queueopts.consumer_name := vConsumerName;
    queueopts.dequeue_mode := dbms_aq.remove;
    queueopts.navigation := dbms_aq.next_message;
    queueopts.wait := dbms_aq.no_wait;
    queueopts.visibility := dbms_aq.immediate;
    vIdCount := 0;
    -- Loop through the contents of the queue
    WHILE vIdCount <= vMaxIdCount LOOP
    dbms_aq.dequeue(queue_name => vQueueName,
    dequeue_options => queueopts,
    message_properties => msgprops,
    payload => obj,
    msgid => deq_msgid);
    vIdCount := vIdCount + 1;
    IF (vIdCount = 1) THEN
    vIdList := obj.id;
    ELSE
    vIdList := vIdList || ',' || obj.id;
    END IF;
    END LOOP;
    -- This will be thrown when there are no messages left to dequeue
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN no_messages THEN
    -- Do nothing
    NULL;
    COMMIT;
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line('vIdList: ' || vIdList);
    OPEN v_retrc FOR
    SELECT * FROM t_table t WHERE t.id IN (vIdList);
    END prc_get_actv_updts_ac;
    You may be wondering why we are trying to do this in the first place. It's a long story, but the plan was to have a c++ app dequeue messages from the queue, but the developer of that piece has run into issues, and because we are under time pressure, we decided to write this proc instead (he knows he can call procs and pull results out of cursors without difficulty). As I said, it works fine when there is only one row to dequeue, but once we have more than one, I get an error during the select statement saying vIdList is an invalid number (and example value of vIdList when I get that error is "6977418,12290358" (without the quotes!)).
    Any thoughts?!

    Hi OP,
    There was another thread about splitting comma-separated numbers lately where a pipelined function solution looked pretty good (well I thought so anyway :) ). I applied a similar approach to your problem, but I obviously couldn't test it (except I tested a similar subselect for the syntax). It means a small re-design whereby the client uses this static select, with binds set appropriately:
    SELECT *
      FROM t_table t
    WHERE t.id IN (
    SELECT COLUMN_VALUE
      FROM TABLE (prc_get_actv_updts_ac (?, ?, ?))
    );and the pipelined function looks like this:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION prc_get_actv_updts_ac (
            vConsumerName       VARCHAR2,
            vQueueName          VARCHAR2,
            vMaxIdCount         INTEGER) RETURN SYS.OdciNumberList PIPELINED IS
      obj           consolidated_updt_msg_t;
      deq_msgid     RAW(16);
      queueopts     DBMS_AQ.dequeue_options_t;
      msgprops      DBMS_AQ.message_properties_t;
      no_messages   EXCEPTION;
      PRAGMA        EXCEPTION_INIT (no_messages, -25228);
    BEGIN
      queueopts.consumer_name := vConsumerName;
      queueopts.dequeue_mode := DBMS_AQ.remove;
      queueopts.navigation := DBMS_AQ.next_message;
      queueopts.wait := DBMS_AQ.no_wait;
      queueopts.visibility := DBMS_AQ.immediate;
    -- Loop through the contents of the queue
      FOR i IN 1..vMaxIdCount LOOP
        DBMS_AQ.Dequeue(
            queue_name          => vQueueName,
            dequeue_options     => queueopts,
            message_properties  => msgprops,
            payload             => obj,
            msgid               => deq_msgid);
        PIPE ROW (obj.id);
      END LOOP;
    EXCEPTION
      WHEN no_messages THEN NULL;
    END prc_get_actv_updts_ac;

    I did actually test a similar subselect but I used positional parameter-passing there - as you have to in SQL, so updated to do same here.

  • How to gracefully import CSV files into Numbers.app v3?

    I've posted this as a question at Stack Exchange, also…
    I have a process, which has worked faithfully for years in Numbers '09, whereby I download my Bank account data in CSV format, then drag that data directly into my Numbers sheet (after creating an appropriate number of blank rows).
    This no longer works, and I can't find an option to import csv! A help search within numbers for 'csv' returns a single result which describes exporting.
    I've tried the old method, no dice. Also, the menu option: Insert > Choose… doesn't permit .csv to be selected.
    At the moment, my workaround is:
    drag the CSV onto the Numbers dock or task-switcher icon to create a temp sheet
    select and copy the content
    paste-and-match-format into my desired location
    close don't save the temp file
    Doe anyone know a better way? A hack or hidden flag I can toggle to get the old functionality back?

    Hi David,
    Your CSV file seems to be a hybrid (mongrel). Where did it originate?
    Regions that use a full-stop (.) as as the decimal point use comma (,) as the separator in CSV files. But wait, there is more! CSV can also mean Character Separated Values, and that character could be semi-colon (;) or Tab.
    Are you able to open that file in TextEdit or Pages or Word and replace the separator? Replacing ; with Tab may work.
    I must admit that I have never had trouble with CSV opening in Numbers with a double-click in Finder. For example, my bank statements download with what works in my Region (strings enclosed with "double quotes" and columns separated by commas and numbers with a full-stop as the decimal point. Maybe I am just lucky. .

  • Find a range of numbers in one cell and output in another

    Here I am again with something I just can't seem to find an answer to:
    I need to find the range of numbers in one cell and place that value in another, like so:
    Cell A1 says: "3 - 8"
    Cell A2 returns: 5
    Any simple formula to do this?

    Hi gunkie83,
    Yvan's formula does perform properly. He stated: Here the decimal separator is comma so Numbers use the semi-colon as parameters separator but the formula is OK. CAUTION, here I left the semi-colons.
    Yvan is in France using the French version of iWork. For the U.S.A. semicolons need to be changed to a comas as I have in the following formulae.
    =VALUE(LEFT(A,SEARCH("-",A)-1))-VALUE(RIGHT(A,LEN(A)-SEARCH("-",A)))
    this returns -5
    =ABS(VALUE(LEFT(A,SEARCH("-",A)-1))-VALUE(RIGHT(A,LEN(A)-SEARCH("-",A))))
    this returns 5
    One important observation in cell A2 the text reads as 3 - 8 not 3-8. Also it can be inputted as 3 -8 but not 3- 8. Watch those spaces. Fun huh.
    Hope this helps. Again Yvan thank you.
    Cordially,

  • How to get comma separator digits

    Hi,
    I need to build some reports for US clients and they need comma separated numbers (9,999,999.00). I thought I could do it in the data format, as custom numeric format, but I insert 9,999,999.00 there, than

    If you are considering returning the device, do not wait much longer. What you might want to do is to make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and ask for their help with the iPad.
    There are several things that you can try before returning the device and the Apple Store would put your iPad through those paces before exchanging the device out for you anyway.

  • Remove comma in query output from Char used as KF

    Hello Friends,
    To be able to display a characteristic in a particular way I used formula variable and displayed it as Key Figure in the query output. By doing this I am getting the output in the required format, but only problem is that the value is being displayed with commas. As it is an order number, I want to display it without commas.
    I don't want to use VB as the query is to be published in web also.
    Please suggest if there is any way to achieve this.
    Thanks in advance.
    Praveen

    Hey Praveen, there's a few ways to skin this cat. The simplest method is to make sure that the user parameters in SU3 don't have commas for numbers. The problem is that this is a global setting so you won't get commas for other numbers in which you may want commas. Also, you'd have to make sure your replacement variable was defined as type "number". The other options include using VBA in BEx, and/or Table Interface in the Web. If you are using BW 3.5, you can use XSLT to render a table with and not have commas for that value by using the XML Query Result Set Item. Hope that helps,
    Prakash

  • So you want to get your files out of Aperture? Simple yet scary solution.

    To remove your files from Aperture try this.
    Select files you want to remove.
    Delete them, yes delete them.
    Go directly to trash and double click. Aperture folder in trash contains all of your deleted files and you can remove them all at once.
    Please try this with a few non essential files at first and never empty the trash from the finder during this operation. I did this with 24 files at the Apple Store and it worked fine but make sure it works before you commit large numbers of essential files.
    I want to say that I am very excited about the possibility of fully functional Aperture as advertised. For me this program is currently miles from that point but rest assured when it gets there I wil buy it!

    In reading earlier posts there were several comments from folks who wanted to back ENTIRELY out of Aperture and from the discussions I surmise that some had commited whole libraries of images before testing the product.
    So what good the project export when you want to quit entirely?
    Let's say you have a studio and have been cataloging your files for years in folders by job number, client, and keyword. That you have say 6TB of images easily accessed by no software other than your own internal hard drive. That Aperture comes along and wants you to change your system because Apple says so.
    I tested the software before buying and it falls short in so many areas as to be unusable for me.
    If and when it's fixed I will buy save two hours and it will be paid for.

  • Tables DBMSHP_FUNCTION_INFO, DBMSHP_PARENT_CHILD_INFO, DBMSHP_RUNS missing

    Background:
    In sqldeveloper 3.1.07 I have a number of views that concatenate the data from several fields to reduce multiple rows to a single row of comma delimited numbers. For example 10 records for Item #1 might contain a list of 10 different assessment files. I reduce them down to A12345, A22637, A32597, A25896, etc. I do the same with other fields, such as mineralization or whatever..
    This system is up on our mainframe and has run perfectly for several years and there has not been a problem generating this report till now. The powers that be have decided to lock down the system and now our report tables cannot be deleted or created as necessary. (The views gather the data, the final result is a table) To modify anything has become a tiresome political issue. However, since I have access to the data and MY code (I was the author and maintainer till now), I exported all the data and code and installed it on my local machine - where it was originally developed and where sqldeveloper was used to generate all the views, etc.
    The Problem:
    To cut to the chase: my concatenation views work perfectly on the mainframe but when I try to run them on my local machine the views are blank. They create properly - no errors, the concatenation function and types compile perfectly - no errors thrown - no messages - no visible warnings - and NO DATA IN THE VIEWS.
    When I finally cllicked on Profiles I found the following WARNING
    *"Required tables DBMSHP_FUNCTION_INFO,DBMSHP_PARENT_CHILD_INFO,DBMSHP_RUNS missing"*
    So my question is -
    1) how do I get these tables installed on my local stand alone computer and
    2) why does this new version of SQLDEVELOPER need them - or to put it in a different way - why is this the first time in 4 years that I need these tables?
    3) why wasnt there an appropriate error message or visible warning.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

    The real answer to my question should have simply been - the concat function is not allowed in 11gR2 - LISTAGG s the appropriate replacement. Seems our server is only 10g and that's why it still works there. My local testbed is 11gR2
    >
    Those comments are so far off base I can't even imagine how you arrived at those conclusions.
    1. You never mentioned a 10g system - you talked about a mainframe

    This system is up on our mainframe and has run perfectly for several years

    2. The Oracle concat function is still alive and well in 11g - nothing you posted shows you are using that function

    Purpose
    CONCAT returns char1 concatenated with char2. Both char1 and char2 can be any of the data types CHAR, VARCHAR2, NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, CLOB, or NCLOB. The string returned is in the same character set as char1. Its data type depends on the data types of the arguments.
    >
    3. The CONCAT_ALL function that you posted is YOUR function, not Oracle's. It is a custom aggregate function written using the Data Cartridge extensions. That function will still work in 11g.
    The concat function:
    create or replace
    FUNCTION "CONCAT_ALL"(
    ctx IN concat_expr)

    >
    Providing an answer of 'the concat function is not allowed in 11gR2' to those questions would have been absurd! The concat function has NOTHING to do with your missing tables.
    I told you the reason your tables are missing. They are only created when you run the script I referred you to. Someone ran them on your current system and created hierarchical profiles that used those tables. You DID NOT run that script on 11g so the tables were not created but you tried to reference the profiles that used them and got the error message about the tables being missing.
    All of your questions were answered and the answers have NOTHING to do with concatenation of any type.
