Comments and keywords in document inspector

Hello all,
Can someone enlighten me on the role of comments and keywords that can be entered in the document inspector?
What is their role? How are they seen/used by buyers and how do the operate within the bookstore?
regards,
John

You didn't even know they did anything at all, so why not go try and see for yourself instead of further side trackiing the thread. Learn something new

  • What is a good use of "Comments Field" in "Document Inspector"?

Can anayone give me good examples of what is a good use for thsi field? Thanks.

    Hi KT,
Here is an answer to my question which I thought I share.
The "Comments" field in the "Document" Inspector is only for us (the authors). Whatever you put here is for you and won't show up in the actual iBook nor in the iTunes. It is just a place to make notes to yourself!

When you installed Pages v5, it automatically moved the older Pages ’09 v4.3 into /Applications/iWork '09 folder. If you want normal comment interoperability, you are advised to resume using the older version of Pages. Newer, is certainly not better with Pages v5.

  • We created a pdf document with comments and hyperlinks. On iPad, comments/hyperlinks disappear.

Using Acrobat Pro 9, we created a pdf with comments and hyperlinks to be shared with a large community on the iPad, through a server. Once the document is opened on the iPad, all the comments and hyperlinks disappear. Are we missing a tool on the iPad or is there a different way to create this file? Thank you.

Is everyone on the iPad using the latest version of Adobe Reader mobile for iOS (10.6 at the moment)? You can see all the comments (including drawing markups) as well as view the notes attached to text markup with this version.

  • Why can't I make comments and highlight text in a document?

Why can't I make comments and highlight text in a document?

Nothing happens. I can select the text but when I go to “highlight” it the button is grayed out and nothing happens. Is there some sort of code that prevents certain publications from having portions of their text highlighted?

Is there a setting that needs to be set to allow the annotation features?  I set password protection to open and then password for editing and set it to Any except page extraction, but it still did not give the annotation option

  • Open and edit PDF document simultaneously in two windows

I am currently studying on a very long PDF, about 1600 pages. I have two copies of the same PDF open in full screen, and I use the first (A) to read and highlight, and the second (B) to search for images and references. So if I am on page 200 of A, and it refers to an image on page 270, instead of scrolling 70 pages and losing track of where I was I scroll on B.
That being said, I tend to highlight on both copies, and I would like to have unified highlights and comments. Is there a way to:
    a) merge the comments and highlights after I close both files
    or
    b) instead of having two copies of the same file A and B, open two windows of the same file A and merge modifications

Adobe Reader won't but Acrobat Pro XI can open the same document in two windows and it updates both as you make changes "on the fly"...
    The downside? $499.
Acrobat Standard is $299 and I  don't know if it can do the "one doc two window" editing.

  • How do you allow users to create comments on a pdf document?

Please can you assist I previously loaded a pdf document and was able to share with others, they could see my comments as I was adding these. They could also add comments and click publish for me to see these. .
The second time round it does not seem to work and does not allow me to mark up my comments (it only allows download). I have tried collaborate live but that does not seem to work either.
    Thank you.

You should be able to take the permissions you have set and "apply to enclosed items." I am trying to attach a picture of what this looks like so my apologies if it does not work.
Highlight your folder you want and go to File>Get Info or command+I and at the bottom where it has Sharing and Permissions, click the lock button to authenticate. Click the gear and click "apply to enclosed items". See if that works.

  • Allow user to fill in a fillable pdf but disallow adding comments and annotation

Hi there.  I have a fillable pdf created by livecycle designer.  I want to let users fill in the form but prevant them adding comments and annotatons to the form.  I cannot reset the above requirements in form property - form security if I have already set a password and allowed user to fill in the form.  Can I user javascript to that effect during the document loading?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
If you save the form as a Dynamic XML Form in the save-as dialogue, then the user will not be able to apply comments. They can only do this in flat or static PDF forms.

  • Creating Electronic Binders Using PDF Portfolio - Commenting and Highlighting

For a few years now I have been using Portfolios to create electronic versions of binders.  Users want to be able to review, search, highlight and comment within the PDFs - and each have a copy with their comments.  Security is also a big deal.  My main question is:  Is using Adobe Portfolios the best solution for making an electronic binder, or does Adobe or another vendor offer a better one?  Recently I saw a product called GDoc Binder that looks promising.  For now using the Portfolios is the best solution I know of.
Problems with the current solution:  Right now I have to create multiple copies of the document to allow users to comment and highlight on their own copy.  File size can be problematic - if it's too big searching can take a long time even after I index the file.  Updating and adding sections is problematic since if you update a page or file you could lose their comments, and so I have to update multiple copies of the same file.  I know you can export and import comments but that can be complex/time consuming. One question I have: Is there a search and/or report on comments and highlights from the full Portfolio rather than just one at a time?
Since Adobe Pro X I have had to use a custom template from PracticalPDF.com to recreate the list navigation of Adobe Pro 9. I did see another post saying that the use of Flash with Portfolios mean that it's day are numbered. Question: I am curious if this is true, and if Portfolios using Flash are becoming obsolete, what Adobe Pro would use for an alternative?
Thank you in advance for any insight and answers - it is greatly appreciated.

  • Streamlining my libraries and keywords

I currently have two iphoto libraries (one was transferred from iview) with some overlap of pictures and some overlap of keywords. I'd like to combine them to one library, eliminate the duplication of photos, and keep all keywords from both libraries with elimation of duplicated keywords. I also want all the keywords to be searchable in spotlight and not just in iphoto. Im not sure this is possible.. and I'm considering using adobe bridge in place of iphoto.
    1. Is there an automated way to combine the libraries and eliminate duplications in photos and keywords?
    2. Is there a way to search iphoto keywords in spotlight (not just in iphoto). Would there be an advantage to use adobe bridge for this? If I use adobe bridge is there a way share the keywords?
    3. Are their 3rd party applications currently available that will help or should I keep my fingers crossed that a future version of photo7 will come out and help me manage keywords?
    thanks!

    Dale:
The only way to merge libraries and keep keywords, comments, albums, etc., intact is to use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager. You can merge library A into library B. Then make sure you have the keywords associated with both versions of the duiplicate photos. Once that's done you can use either Duplicate Annihilator or iPhoto Diet to remove the duplicates.
I recommend you make a temporary backup of library B before running those applications in case the results are not what you want. Better safe than sorry.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Cell Comment and Supporting Detail with User ID

    Hi,
I have created couple of SQL to generate the report on Cell Comments and Supporting detail from Planning repository tables 11.1.2.1.

    Regards,

I like to think of the cell comments like post-it notes. If you use them sparingly, they're very useful. If you use them all the time (or use comments in every cell) it's unlikely that they will be as effective.
With regards attaching a document, I think the same can be said.
With regards supporting detail, it always strikes me that if you need more detail within a given cell, that the system should be accommodating this through component child members, rather than a mix of some cells containing supporting detail and others not. I understand that it's quite nice functionality to have though, and looks good when demo'ing.
I think the main take away from this is that every time you show the comments etc to people the first question you get is "Can you report all the comments for a given time period?" and the answer is of course unfortunately "Not easily using a supported method".
    Just my thoughts...

  • Enable Commenting and Measuring without a mouse

I work for a large nonprofit with no tech department. (I'm on a mac OS 10.6, others have OS 10.7) We've just upgraded 3 of us to Acrobat Pro X (from Acrobat Pro 7).
I need to be able to do the following to many many files every day -  with fewer than 2 mouseclicks.
File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Commenting and Measuring ... [confirm over wright in same folder on the shared (windows) server] ... [close document]
Best case scenario: Adobe makes this an export option in inDesign, where it belongs.
Next best: a "droplet" app that can enable many PDFs  at once.
Next best: a working applescript that I can invoke from my script menu
Next best: <sigh> an adobe Action that I can script in Acrobat
Next best: working javascript code that someone can help me figure out how to deploy for 3 users...

The scrolling option is now in System Preferences > Universal Access > mouse & trackpad tab > mouse options.. button > check scrolling.
