Common cost allocation to assets in service at different times

Hi,
My client constructs large assets that typically go into service over a period of several months. They track some asset costs on tasks assigned to a grouping level of specific assets, while other "general" costs are coded to a task assigned to a grouping level of "Common costs". The problem is that when one of the assets gets placed into service, all of the "common" costs get allocated to that assets. This is resulting in disproportionately larger asset costs for the first one placed in service and a smaller share of those costs allocated to the last asset placed into service.
What is the best method to get these general-type costs to allocate proportionately across all the assets even though they are placed in service across several different months?
Thanks!

Hi
The problem of equal prorating the common costs is that task may still incur costs after the first asset has been placed in service. The other assets will also incur additional costs.
You may consider holding the common cost till the end of the entire project. That task should not be assigned to common cost, but instead assigned it to a separate asset, with quantity of 100 units. When project is completed and all other assets are placed in service go and interface the "common" asset lines to FA.
In Mass Addition split that last asset into separate N assets, where N is the number of real assets generated from that project. Now add the cost of the last "common" assets to the other assets already in FA.

Unfortunately, only adobe can help you with that, as most people here are just posters such as your self and don't work for adobe.
If you go here and use the Chat now button (bottom of page), they should get you up and running by resetting your activations.

  • Cost Allocation to Assets at a Task

    Consider the following scenario
    In Project A ,
Asset Cost Allocation Method = Spread Evenly
    Group Method = Expenditure Type
An Asset A1 is created and assigned to the Task T1
Accumlate the CIP cost at Task 1
Then Run the Process "PRC: Generate Asset Lines for a Single Project"
When the process is finished the asset lines are generated and cost lines are assigned to asset A1.
Then Run the Process "PRC: Interface Assets to Oracle Assets" so the Asset A1 is interfaced to
    Oracle FA
In Oracle FA RUn "Post Mass Addition
Next month a new Asset A2 is created and assigned to the Task T1
Accumlate the new CIP cost at Task 1
When the process is finished the asset lines are generated and cost lines are assigned to Asset A1
    and Asset A2.
So why the new cost is assigned to both Assets A1 and A2. A1 is already assigned to the interfaced
    to Oracle FA.
Can't we achieve that the new cost only to Asset A2 which is not interfaced to Oracle FA and not to
    Asset A1.

    Hi
In case there are many projects , tasks and assets, consider using the client extensions available for capital projects.
You can develop the custom code for automatically generating assets in one client extension, and utilize the other extension to group costs into the relevant asset based on your own company logic.

  • Common Cost - Asset allocation

    Please help with the following:
    Our requirement is:
    1) We have common costs assigned at the task level.
    2) Our assets are assigned to tasks
    3) Assets for the project are placed into service at various dates.
    4) When common cost is allocated at the time of asset creation, it should only allocate part of the common cost that goes into service. For assets that do not go into service, common cost should be available for allocation in future.
I tried to work with Asset Allocation client extension. It does not allow me to leave any common cost unassigned after partially assigning the common cost to the assets that are placed in service. How do we leave some of the common cost unassigned for assets that will be placed in service in future.
What can we do to achieve the desired objective.
    Regards,
    Nagarajan

    Hi
    You may consider Projects allocations.
You could allocate the cost incurred at the common task to the various task of the project. The cost allocation will offset the common cost task.
Any assets in other tasks that is placed in service will absorb the common cost you already allocated to that asset task.
Allocated costs in other assets task will remain in CIP until you capitalize the next assets of the other tasks.

  • Using SAP BO PCM  with cost allocation

    Hello,
Can anyone kindly point me in the right direction or better still help me out on how to use PCM for cost allocation... A simple example would suffice ie using service costs from HR and allocating thses costs to lets say Sales Dept and Manufacturing Dept.
I am struggling with trying to create a view builder to capture the allocation...
    Cheers

    Hello, Victor
You have three RespCenters: HR, Sales and Manufactoring and you fullfiled LineItemValue grid
for all service costs on HR RespCenter.
For example you have one process in the model and it was assigned for each ResCenter (RespCenter/Activity Assignment)  and you use Direct Activity assignment or Resource drivers to allocate costs(LineItems) between activities. In this case ActivityLineItemValue grid shows correct values for HR RespCenter.
    Reassignment configuration step:
Mark Reassign Activity attribute for each activity that you want to use in reassignment.
In Activity Reassignment Section choose HR and one process as source and Sales, Marketing and one existing activity as target. System required resource driver for this assignment too. Don`t forget about DriverSplit values.
    Viewing results:
Create new grid based on ReassignInValue. Drag and drop to rows: HR Respcenter, Activity and Line items to _one_ Row (otherwise you may use same source selection in dimensiontree list)
At columns: Target RespCenter, Target Activity (check that you have dimension with prefix target in dimension list)

  • Difference Btw Secondary cost allocation and activity allocation

    Hi All

    Hi,
Can someone explain what is the difference between cost allocation and accounting flexfields.
Cost Allocation Flexfield is used in Payroll and Account flexfields are used in Financials. Basic difference is that you may want to charge to the same GL number even though the cost is coming from two different cost centers. Like say Overtime and Regular Hours Costs.
But it is always recommended that you use the same value sets for the common segments
For instance let us say an employee A is assigned to a payroll P and the employee has a default code comibination(i.e the accounting flexfield) information. Now all the costs incurred on this employee will go to the accounts defined in the accounting flexfield. It will not automatically go to the accounting flexfields but you have to map cost allocation flex with GL Flex and then run the transfer process.
let us know if it explained your doubts or not.

  • Cost Allocations

    Good Day

    Hi,
Budget = Actuals work in a scenario when the planned costs occur during a specific period of the Fiscal Year but you want to accrue the cost in all the Periods and Plan for those costs. For example, Annual Incentives paid to the Employees. In an organization if the incentive is paid during July then either the entire cost can be planned during July or the cost can be acrrued over the full year. Normally the costs are accrued for the entire year to avoid disproportionate costs between the periods.
    To do this you need to do the following;
Say you Plan for 36500 USD for a Cost Center as incentive Cost for year 2010 and the planned costs are distributed according to the number of days for each period. So, your plan costs for Jan is 3100, Feb - 2800, Mar - 3100 and so on. You plan the cost on a Accrual Cost Element of Category 04. During Month-End you run the accruals and the actual costs are posted to the Cost Center with a corresponding credit to a common cost center that you may specify. You will have to move the accrued amount from the common cost center to FI accruals (Balance Sheet Account). As a result you see the costs of 3100 USD in Jan for the said cost center and your Plan and Actual values are equal. Finally when the actual costs are posted during July, you post them in FI to the common cost center and distribute the difference to all the cost centers using allocation methods based on the accrued amounts.
    Hope this helps,

  • Looking for help - Company is going to Mobile Asset Management service that does not support BB - especially BB 10.

    Hello,
I am looking for ideas/help. I currently have a BB Z10 (10.1.0.2039) with Verizon Wireless.  The company has a BB Enterprise Server for older devices (I previously was on that).  I bought a Z10 several months ago and have been connecting to the corporate network through Lotus Traveler. They do not have and will not implement a BB 10 Enterprise Server. Some in IT informed that if the company used the BB software they could manage all devices..... not accepted.
All my contacts, calendar, and company email is funneled to the BB Hub.....
So my company is implementing a Mobile Asset Management Service that I have to sign up for (Airwatch?).  They only support Android and IPhone.
Will future versions of the BB OS support Android Apps.... Soon (I have less than 2 weeks)
I have read where it is possible to put the device in development mode to run Android Apps.  I don't know if that will work with this and have no idea how stable the phone is in that mode. I travel internationally so I don't know how a development mode would work overseas. Any thoughts?
I like my Z10 but will need to switch to keep functionality if I can't find a work around
    Any assistance ????
    Thanks for any help.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
BB10 devices have the ability to run .apk apps via special methods. Development Mode is used only for installing the app...not for normal operation. So you install (side-load) the app in Development Mode, then go back to normal mode for normal operations.
If a .bar file for the .apk app already exists somewhere, you can side load it to the BB10 device and see if it works or not. If there is not yet any .bar file, there is an app called SideSwype that can convert many .apk apps to .bar and install it to your device.
    Good luck!

  • WBS Elements and Asset Under Constructions have different Cost Centers

    Hello Experts,
We have created a WBS element in one of the projects.
As per standard process, when we create the WBS Element the Asset under construction is also getting created through the settlement rule within the WBS.
These assets should have the same Cost Center as the WBS has. However we are in a situation wherein the Cost Center in the asset under construction is different than the Cost Center in the WBS.
I have checked the settings like automatic account assignment, etc but all settings look correct.
Can you please explain first what could be the reason for such a difference between Cost Centers in WBS and AuC's and what is the solution to avoid it in future?
    Thanks in advance
    Leena

    Thanks for your replies...
@ Alex - There is no Investment Programme ID maintained for this WBS in question since there is no IM for this project.
@ Abdul - Please elaborate more on Validation and Substitution.
    Regards,
    Leena.

  • No accounting document created for distributed cost center and asset

    Hi experts,

    Thanks

Sorry guys, there's nothing to do with the config of the account assignment. The postings are ok for single cost center or single asset. SAP system message (info messsage) " Goods receipt for distributed cost center will be non valuated" are given when you are trying to unticked the GR non valuated.
If someone could explain what is the logic behind that behavior.

  • F-47 Error "Purchase document is allocated to asset"

    Hi,
I've created a PO for buy asset, Account assignment "A". Now I want to raised a 10% down payment request for this PO.
    I hit this error:
Purchase document is allocated to asset
    Message no. F5378
    Diagnosis
The asset number   assigned in the purchase document
    - is different from the asset number entered manually
    - cannot be transferred, because the 'Asset number' field was hidden for the account in question
    System Response
In the first instance a warning appears, drawing your attention to the different account assignments. In the second instance an error message appears, because the asset number must be transferred from the purchase order but the necessary field is hidden.
    Procedure
If you receive the warning, check which asset number is the correct number for this down payment.
If you receive an error message, you must either choose another special G/L indicator for down payments so that it is possible to assign an asset number to the relevant general ledger account, or you must change or delete the the specified purchase document number. Only those purchase documents are allowed which are not assigned to assets.
Please advice me, what should I do? Thanks

    Hi,
on top of my setting, I also perform this changes:
    1. enter OBC4 and select field status variant
        -   Then double-click on Field Status Group
        -   Select field status group: Reconciliation Accounts
        -   Then, click on the magnifying glass " Edit field status"
        -   Double-click on Asset Accounting
        -   Change Asset number/subnumber to optional entry and save.
    Now it hit another error:-
"You cannot use this transaction type to post to this asset"
    Message no. AA834
    Diagnosis
The transaction type entered belongs to transaction type group 15. According to the specifications for this transaction type group, posting with transactions types belonging to this group are only allowed in specific asset classes (for example, asset classes for assets under construction).
The asset to which you are posting belongs to class D01 (chart of depreciation L001). You cannot post to this class using the transaction type you have entered.
    Procedure
Check the asset number entered. You may want to allow posting with this transaction type group for the asset class of the asset.
Can I just change this error message to warning? Any impact if I do this? Thanks

Have the cost data been archived? If not, please check configurations and whether there is do actual goods issue or activity confirmation posted. Check plan and actual costing variant under tab page 'Control', BOM structure under tab page 'Components' and Routing structure under tab page 'Operations'. And if any goods issue or activity confirmation to the order, cost can be analysed under tab page 'Cost'.

  • Msg. error BK048 for manual cost allocation

    Hi,
we got a warning message for manual cost allocation (KB15N), when posting this allocation just with a quantity and without an amount. We would like to post this allocation without amount and therefore need to change the message type from warning (W) to information (I), to do this posting.
When using transaction OBA5, there is just a fixed and not adjustable value for Standard with "W". Do you know any workarounds or how we can change this message type to do this posting?
    Regards
    Florian

    Hi Florian,
HAve you assigned users in OBA5?.
Go to OBMSG, for this particular Message number in the allowed message types, specify IWE etc. In the standard column specify I. Also you could check on check box "Switch Off" if you want to have the option of not seeing the message at all.
Now goto OBA5, against the message number, in the "Online" column , specify I or - (Switch Off) and do the same in the BAtchl column also.
Now you need too specify a user only if you want this change for specific users , if you want all the users to be able to post manual cost allocation then do not specify any user name.
Do tell me if it works.
    Regards
    Susan

  • Cost allocation flexfield

    hi
after reading payroll UG, i am a bit confused about cost allocation flexfield for payroll, assignment, element link, org, element entry.
can i consider this flexfield as a T ledger, the first popup field is for Debit, the second one is for Credit purposes, when they are used for those 5 sections?

the payroll - org - element entry - assignment - element link are levels at which you can define to show a segment or not.
In case a segment is specified at a higher level, it is inherited from the other levels, so an end user has not to enter all the data all over again. (like a waterfall)
The most detailed level is the element entry level. Imagine if the end user must enter there for each segment and for each segment all values. Too much work and too error prone.
So you can set values for a specific segment at a specific level (example company code at payroll level).
Costing then rolls up all levels to fully qualify all the segments.
